“Holy F*** This Person is a Sociopath”: A Former Theranos Interviewee Tells His Story of Meeting Elizabeth Holmes

With Elizabeth Holmes set to be on trial for the massive sprawling fraud she ran at Theranos in the coming days, discourse about the now-defunct company online is picking up.

Among the interesting banter that has made its way out of the woodwork over the past week was one former interviewee, who took to Twitter to describe his experience interviewing with Holmes for a job after John Carreyrou’s WSJ expose had been published. “When I heard Elizabeth was on trial I couldn’t help but recall that moment,” Jon Wu wrote on his Twitter.

He describes in May 2017 how a professor of his urged that Theranos wasn’t a fraud and that how he should meet with Holmes.

Analysis Unlocks Secret of the Vinland Map — It’s a Fake

The Vinland Map, once hailed as the earliest depiction of the New World, is awash in 20th-century ink. A team of conservators and conservation scientists at Yale has found compelling new evidence for this conclusion through the most thorough analysis yet performed on the infamous parchment map.

Acquired by Yale in the mid-1960s, the purported 15th-century map depicts a pre-Columbian “Vinlanda Insula,” a section of North America’s coastline southwest of Greenland. While earlier studies had detected evidence of modern inks at various points on the map, the new Yale analysis examined the entire document’s elemental composition using state-of-the-art tools and techniques that were previously unavailable.

Colorado Imam Karim Abuzaid Defends Sharia and the Taliban

“The hijab is an element of Islam, of the shari’a. Now, you should love for the law of Allah to be established, through the legal lawful channels, without violating the laws of the land.”

Many in the U.S. right now are working toward exactly that goal. It is, of course, a long way off, but that doesn’t mean no one is working toward it.

Energy Company: Hurricane Ida Restoration Could Take Weeks

Ida damaged or destroyed more than 22,000 power poles, more than hurricanes Katrina, Zeta and Delta combined, an impact Entergy President and CEO Phillip May called “staggering.” More than 5,200 transformers failed and nearly 26,000 spans of wire — the stretch of transmission wires between poles — were down.

“The level of devastation makes it quite difficult or near impossible to get in and fully assess some places,” said May of five southeastern Louisiana parishes facing the longest delays. The company is estimating full power restoration by Sept. 29 or even longer for some customers.

About a quarter of New Orleans residents have power back, including all the city’s hospitals, and the city’s 27 substations are ready to serve customers, said Deanna Rodriguez, Entergy New Orleans president and CEO. Most customers should have power back by Wednesday, Entergy said.

One of the parishes facing long delays for power restoration is Terrebonne, where volunteers in the parish seat of Houma handed out ice, water and meals to shell-shocked storm survivors Saturday. Houma is roughly 55 miles (90 kilometers) southwest of New Orleans…

Rolling Stone Issues ‘Update’ After Horse Dewormer Hit-Piece Debunked

Update (1155ET): Rolling Stone has issued an ‘update,’ not a correction, or a retraction, by appending the hospital’s statement to the top of the article.

After Joe Rogan announced that he’d kicked Covid in just a few days using a cocktail of drugs, including Ivermectin — an anti-parasitic prescribed for humans for over 35 years, with over 4 billion doses administered (and most recently as a Covid-19 treatment), the left quickly started mocking Rogan for having taken a ‘horse dewormer’ due to its dual use in livestock.

Rolling Stone’s Jon Blistein led the charge.

On Friday, Rolling Stone‘s Peter Wade took another stab — publishing a hit piece claiming that Oklahoma ERs were overflowing with people ‘overdosing on horse dewormer.’

It was suspect from the beginning.

The report, sourced to local Oaklahoma outlet KFOR‘s Katelyn Ogle, cites Oklahoma ER doctor Dr. Jason McElyea — who claimed that people overdosing on ivermectin horse dewormer are causing emergency rooms to be “so backed up that gunshot victims were having hard times getting” access to health facilities.

Texas: Muslim ‘Inspired by a Foreign Terrorist Organization’ Murders Lyft Driver, Opens Fire at Police Station

“He was inspired by the rhetoric and or/propaganda. He wasn’t directed to do this.”

Police didn’t name the “foreign terrorist organization” that inspired Imran Ali Rasheed. Maybe it was some group of Congolese white supremacists that the FBI has cooked up. In the real world, however, one possibility is that Rasheed was inspired by the Islamic State (ISIS), which issued this call in September 2014:

So O muwahhid, do not let this battle pass you by wherever you may be. You must strike the soldiers, patrons, and troops of the tawaghit. Strike their police, security, and intelligence members, as well as their treacherous agents. Destroy their beds. Embitter their lives for them and busy them with themselves. If you can kill a disbelieving American or European — especially the spiteful and filthy French — or an Australian, or a Canadian, or any other disbeliever from the disbelievers waging war, including the citizens of the countries that entered into a coalition against the Islamic State, then rely upon Allah, and kill him in any manner or way however it may be….If you are not able to find an IED or a bullet, then single out the disbelieving American, Frenchman, or any of their allies. Smash his head with a rock, or slaughter him with a knife, or run him over with your car, or throw him down from a high place, or choke him, or poison him….

Canada’s Conservatives Announce Vaccine Passports if They Win the Election

The leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, Erin O’Toole, promised a federal proof-of-vaccine system if his party gets elected, which means that those who support civil liberties are going to be left with few options as all major parties support the invasive practices.

Prime Minister Trudeau made a similar pledge and NDP’s criticized the current PM for not having already implemented a federal vaccine passport system.

In a stop on his campaign trail in Coquitlam, British Columbia, O’Toole revealed his party’s pandemic-related plans, including a national proof-of-vaccine system, arguing that Canadians would need it for travel.

Working Out in the Backyard? Too Dangerous, Here’s $5,000 in Fines

Over the past year, we have been helping everyday Canadians fight back against unjust COVID fines through our campaign at FightTheFines.com. I had the chance to travel to Winnipeg, Manitoba to help tell the story of one Canadian we are helping out, named Shaun Zimmer.

Shaun runs a bootcamp out of his backyard in Winnipeg. With Manitoba having had some of the strictest lockdown measures in the country, it was no surprise when Shaun came on the receiving end of multiple fines and visits from law enforcement. When we saw the footage of the incidents and the unfair treatment Shaun was receiving, we knew we had to help him out.

The irony of the situation is that there is a farmers’ market right around the corner where people can line up and gather for food, but Shaun gathering with people to exercise and strengthen their bodies was a no-go in the eyes of Premier Brian Pallister and the Manitoba government.

Credited with getting “Brexit done” at the beginning of 2021 after years of delays and rearguard action against breaking with the European bloc by pro-EU politicians, Prime Minister Johnson did in fact make many major concessions to Brussels for a last-minute deal rather than countenance a clean “no-deal” exit.

Former Czech President Klaus: Upcoming Elections Won’t Change Anything, Fail to Address Core Issues of ‘Progressivism and Globalism’

Former President Vaclav Klaus and his institute do not expect any significant change from the upcoming parliamentary elections. However, Klaus would like the elections to help awaken the public to a number of important challenges facing Czech society.

The former president shared his opinion on upcoming elections to reporters during Thursday’s presentation of the book entitled “Elections 2021 — Will They Be About Anything?” which he co-wrote with his colleagues from the Vaclav Klaus Institute.

According to Klaus, the institute has decided to comment on the elections even though its representatives will not run in them. In the book, they express concern that the forthcoming parliamentary elections will not be about significant matters. Klaus refused the “trivialization of the elections” through slogans such as “anti-Babis” or inciting fear of Russia and China. He considers these topics to be “insincere”.

Netherlands: Large Crowds Form During Protest Against Coronavirus Measures in Amsterdam

Crowds formed at the Dam Square on Sunday around noon during a protest against coronavirus measures, called, “Samen voor Nederland”. Opponents of the coronavirus measures implemented by the government gathered at the Dam Square in Amsterdam at 11 a.m. on Sunday. The protestors started marching at 12 p.m.

Present at the demonstration was Forum voor Democratie faction leader Thierry Baudet. “I too will of course be at the Dam at 12”, Baudet tweeted Saturday evening.

Baudet stirred up controversy in the past, for example, by refusing to take a coronavirus test after having flu symptoms or for allegedly violating social distancing rules during a rally. He had called on his supporters multiple times in the past week to join the Sunday protest.

Taliban Shoot Pregnant Afghan Policewoman in Front of Her Family: Reports

The Taliban have said they will protect women’s rights and create an inclusive government but Afghans are sceptical of the assurances and have pointed the group’s atrocities across the country.

The Taliban shot dead a pregnant Afghan policewoman in front of her family in Ghor province, according to multiple reports, in the latest incident of violence against women by the hardline Islamist group in Afghanistan. Banu Nigara was said to be killed in front of her husband and children at her home in Firozkoh, reports said. “Nigara a police officer was shot dead infront of her kids and husband last night at 10PM in Ghor province. Nigara was 6 months pregnant, she was shot dead by the Taliban,” leading Afghan journalist Bilal Sarwary tweeted on Sunday citing her family members.

The Taliban denied they were involved in the killing of Nigara. “We are aware of the incident and I am confirming that the Taliban have not killed her, our investigation is ongoing,” Taliban spokesperson Zabiullah Mujaheed told the BBC. Mujaheed said the policewoman could have been killed because of “personal enmity or something else” adding that the Taliban had already confirmed amnesty for people who worked for the previous administration…

The surge in illegal immigration is being orchestrated by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, who is accused of trying to blackmail the EU into reversing the sanctions it imposed over his disputed reelection and a crackdown on dissent.

Many of the migrants are being flown to Belarus from the Middle East and then bussed to EU borders by Belarusian authorities. The trips are being organized by Belarus’s state-owned tourism agency, which charges migrants between $1,800 to $12,000.

NATO and European Ministers Accuse Belarusian Authorities of Using Migrants as Weapons

The foreign ministers of the European Union met in the capital of Slovenia, the country currently holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. At the end of the meeting, Josep Borrel, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, saidthat the issue of Afghanistan took up a lot of time, but he stated that they also discussed the worsening of the situation in Belarus outside the program.

The ministers, said Borrell, deplored that “the Lukashenka regime has cynically used this summer’s migrants and refugees to artificially pressurize our eastern borders. Borrel mentioned how during the migration crisis in Spain they had to say that Spain’s border with Morocco was the border of the European Union, and said that now it was time to say: the borders of Latvia, Lithuania and Poland are also the borders of Europe. Therefore, the EU is ready to take all measures to support Poland, Lithuania and Latvia if the situation continues to deteriorate.”
