Inflation Settles at High Rate as Prices Leap 5.4 Percent From Year Ago

Inflation continued to surge in July, but appeared to settle close to the fastest pace in almost 13 years as the economy continues to emerge from the pandemic, the feds said Wednesday.

The Labor Department’s Consumer Price Index, which measures a basket of goods and services as well as energy and food costs, jumped 5.4 percent in July from a year earlier.

That’s the same as June’s 5.4 percent year-over-year rise in prices, which marked the biggest 12-month rise since August 2008, just before the financial crisis sent the US into the worst recession it had seen since the Great Depression.

The Alabama Board of Education voted along party and race lines Thursday to approve a resolution aimed at banning critical race theory.

The phrase, though, has become a catchall broadly used to critique anti-racism or diversity language in curriculum or teacher training.

Government spokesman Piotr Muller said that Agreement party leader Jaroslaw Gowin has lost his position as deputy PM and minister of development, labor, and technology. He added that PM Mateusz Morawiecki turned to President Andrzej Duda to dismiss Gowin from the government.

Muller emphasized that the government’s efficiency is dependent on cooperation between Law and Justice (PiS) and its coalition partners — Solidarity Poland and the Agreement. He stated that in recent weeks one could “observe with worry” Gowin’s actions, which seemed intended to undermine the trust towards cooperation as part of the United Right.

In particular, the spokesman pointed to Gowin’s opposition to the introduction of the Polish Deal which the former deputy PM had signed in May.

Europe: Mass Protests Against COVID-19 Vaccine ‘Passports’

Protests are erupting in cities across Europe in response to government efforts to impose so-called Covid passports, documents that show proof of immunization against Covid-19. The passports, which effectively reward the vaccinated and punish the unvaccinated, have sparked a heated debate over the constitutionality of government attempts to force people to get vaccinated.

In the last two weeks alone, hundreds of thousands of people of all political persuasions have gathered in at least 300 European cities to protest government overreach and to defend civil liberties. So far, the protests have not had the intended effect of reversing government policies, but they have highlighted that Europeans are thoroughly divided on the issue of Covid vaccines.

Polish Parliament Passes “Media Bill” Met With Violent Protests and Strong American Reaction

The Sejm has accepted the amendment to the bill on television and radio broadcasting that prevents non-European owners from having controlling stakes in Polish media companies. A total of 228 MPs voted in favor of the bill, while 216 were against it and 10 abstained. The bill will now go to the Senate.

According to the bill, a license for broadcasting radio and television programs may be obtained only by subjects whose headquarters are within the European Economic Area under the condition that they are not dependent on a foreign person from outside of the EEA.

In practice, it would push American company Discovery to sell its controlling stake in TVN, a liberal network with many channels that operates the news station TVN24 and has a flagship evening news program.

Swedish Politician Who Called UN Climate Report “Scare Propaganda” Forced to Resign From Party

A Swedish politician who suggested that the UN’s “code red” climate report was “scare propaganda” was subsequently forced to resign from her political party.

Earlier this week, the United Nations released a hysterical report that enjoyed wall to wall media coverage warning of ecological apocalypse if ordinary people didn’t radically change their lifestyles.

Hundreds of the same individuals who amplified that message are preparing to board fleets of CO2-belching airliners to lecture the rest of us once again at an upcoming climate summit later this year in Scotland.

One woman who dared express a modicum of skepticism was Ingrid Vesterlund of the Centre Party.

Secret Agreement: Silence in Exchange for Additional Staff

An agreement between the Israeli government, the Health Ministry, and hospital directors regarding the addition of hundreds of positions for medical staff included a secret and unprecedented oral agreement as well, Israel Hayom reported.

Under the agreement, hospital directors committed themselves to not reporting, not warning, and not giving interviews to the media regarding the hospitals’ insufficiency with regards to the treatment of coronavirus patients in serious condition and with regards to other patients in serious condition. This would apply regardless of the hospitals’ actual situation and the quality of care patients receive, and was addressed in conversations with five senior management figures in large hospitals around the country, some of whom are personally involved in the agreement between the Health Ministry and the government.

In a conversation with Israel Hayom, a senior Health Ministry official said that in addition to the above, the government also made an unprecedented demand, for the first time ever, from the Health Ministry, “to drop the standards of medical care in order to say that we can handle the treatment of coronavirus patients and not enter a lockdown.”

Health Ministry Director General Professor Nachman Ash warned the government that “coronavirus patients may be dying in the streets.”

Israel Hayom also discovered that a director of a large hospital in Israel reported Wednesday on his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, saying that for the hundreds of additional positions for doctors and nurses, which will be added in three stages to hospitals around the country, the hospital directors will say in exchange that “we are keeping up with the overload.”

The director of another hospital said: “The new agreement will help for the fifth and sixth waves of the pandemic, but in the current wave the understanding is that we must make a superhuman effort to absorb, at any price, the medical treatment of seriously ill coronavirus patients — even if the new medical staff are not skilled in treating them.”

An director of one of the largest hospitals in Israel told the site: “These understandings are not ethical and are not legal, and there are concerns here of frauding the public, which will not receive information regarding the true and very pitiful situation with regards to the level of care for seriously ill patients. The government will be able to continue not deciding on additional restrictions, while at the same time buying the silence of hospital directors, regardless of the price the patients will pay.”

Israel Hayom has discovered that hospital directors warned on Wednesday that as of now, the situation is already very dire. One of them warned that, “Hospitals are at maximum capacity. The number of serious cases is climbing every day. Patients in serious condition wait for hours in ambulances outside the emergency room because of the overload. And there’s no way to further reduce the internal medicine wards.”

Another hospital director told Israel Hayom: “Currently, in the ICU, a third of the beds have already been taken by intubated coronavirus patients, and the situation is very serious with regards to how close to capacity the internal medicine wards are. I would not want them to be treating my family in this fashion.”

Another director warned that “in recent days, there has been a very significant rise in hospitalizations — they’re trying to hide this from the public.”

The director of a large hospital added: “The Health Ministry’s demand is that the hospitals find a solution for 2,400 coronavirus patients, and it’s clear that this is absolutely not possible — so what happens is that the healthcare system is being thrown to the dogs in this fashion. This is all because of the heavy and aggressive pressure by Prime Minister [Naftali] Bennett on Health Ministry Director General Prof. Nachman Ash.”[…]

Forced Conversions and Child Marriage in Pakistan: An Everyday Event

Forced conversion to Islam of young Christian and Hindu girls, some under the age of 12, seems to be an everyday occurrence. To those who are in a position to stop this practice, it appears not to matter. Almost no day goes by without news of these events.

This major and growing problem in Pakistan affects religious minorities. Human rights organisations working on this issue estimate that every year 1,000 Hindu and Christian girls are forced to convert to Islam — an estimate that could be far higher as many cases remain unreported. Most of the time, these girls are lured by much older men by the promise of a better life and sometimes are pushed into prostitution or even sold.

Danish WHO Chief Says COVID ‘Patient Zero’ Was Likely Wuhan Lab Worker

One of the World Health Organization’s leading infectious diseases experts says that the first COVID ‘patient zero’ was “likely” a lab worker at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Peter Embarek, who spearheaded a WHO team sent to investigate the lab earlier this year, told Danish television that the likely source of the pandemic was someone infected by a bat during fieldwork or at one of the laboratories in Wuhan.

“This is where the virus jumps directly from a bat to a human,” reports Denmark’s TV 2 News. “In that case, it would then be a laboratory worker instead of a random villager or other person who has regular contact with bats. So it is actually in the probable category.”

French Rescue 108 Migrants Trying to Sail to UK

Lille:

French authorities rescued more than 100 migrants Wednesday seeking to sail to England in four separate boats that officials said got into trouble in the Channel.

Last week the British government said a record of at least 482 migrants crossed from France to England in a single day, putting annual figures way above last year’s numbers.

Maritime officials in France said on Wednesday that a navy patrol boat rescued seven people aboard a vessel “in difficulty” off the coast of Sangatte and took them to the port of Dunkirk, where they were looked after by local officials.

The patrol boat was then sent to rescue 29 “shipwrecked” migrants off the coast of Dunkirk, including one who was ill and taken by helicopter for medical care, the area’s maritime administration said.

The remainder were transported to Dunkirk.

Thirty-seven other migrants were rescued from a boat in difficulty off the coast of Calais and another 35 off Dunkirk, the officials said.
