Afghan knife artist strikes in the refugee home — one dead

A 35-year-old was murdered in a brutal knife attack in a refugee shelter. The perpetrator, an Afghan, is said to have shouted “Allahu Akhbar” shortly before the crime.

A knife murder occurred in a refugee accommodation in Greven in the German North Rhine-Westphalia, in which one person was killed and another was seriously injured. The victim is a 35-year-old resident who, according to the police, comes from Azerbaijan; a 43-year-old German suffered serious injuries, as the public prosecutor and police reported on Monday morning.

The alleged perpetrator is said to be a 25-year-old Afghan who came to Germany in 2015 and had lived in the refugee facility since the beginning of 2018. The senior public prosecutor responsible for the case is quoted as saying: “He may have been under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time of the crime.”

The alleged perpetrator is said to have fled after the knife attack. In the course of the search, in which a helicopter is said to have been used, the man was finally located in a field and arrested without resistance.
