Unemployed Americans File Lawsuits Against States Ending COVID Relief

Lawsuits seeking to preserve pandemic-era unemployment benefits are increasing as states across the country seek to halt the federal payments so residents will go back to work.

More than two dozen states have sought to upend the federal unemployment payments of $300 a month that Congress extended earlier this year through Sept. 6.

But at least six of the states are facing lawsuits over their moves, and two judges have been sympathetic to the claims thus far.

[Comment If they are unemployed, how did they get the money to sue?]

“An Excuse to Get to be Racist”: ‘White Fragility’ Author Issues Warning on the Dangers of the Comedy

Authored by Jonathan Turley

Mark Twain once said that “A sense of humor is the one thing no one will admit to not having.” Twain observation came to mind this week when Robin DiAngelo warned that “Comedy is . . . an excuse to get to be racist.” It appears that DiAngelo is moving from “White Fragility” to white comedy. The remarks of the author of the book “White Fragility” were carried on the Wisconsin-based non-profit Mythinformed. DiAngelo singled out “Family Guy” and “The Simpsons” as racist entertainment. For free speech advocates, the comments are concerning given the crackdown in other countries on comedians.

Breaking: Gov. Ron DeSantis Responds to New CDC Masking Guidelines

On Tuesday, the CDC released a statement on its website with updated COVID-19 guidance, including masking recommendations.

“To maximize protection from the Delta variant and prevent possibly spreading it to others, wear a mask indoors in public if you are in an area of substantial or high transmission,” the CDC said. “Wearing a mask is most important if you have a weakened immune system or if, because of your age or an underlying medical condition, you are at increased risk for severe disease, or if someone in your household has a weakened immune system, is at increased risk for severe disease, or is unvaccinated. If this applies to you or your household, you might choose to wear a mask regardless of the level of transmission in your area.”

Chicago Mayor Defends Granting Interviews Only to Reporters of Color

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has reportedly defended her controversial decision to grant interview requests only to minority journalists — calling the number of non-whites covering her “unacceptable.”

Collabio Spaces is a Non-Google Docs Document Collaboration Tool

Traditional office suites such as MS Office and Google Docs provide collaboration on documents via the cloud. But cloud services are not as secure as advertised, meaning it is not advisable to upload sensitive information. The alternative, which is emailing or texting multiple people about changes and making them manually is tedious. Collabio Spaces offers a better solution.

Collabio Spaces is a P2P office suite software that allows different people to co-author documents, without relying on the cloud. Instead, it allows document collaboration via local network, no network connection is required.

Coroner IDs Gunman in Southern California Shooting

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities have identified the gunman involved in a California standoff that killed a sheriff’s deputy and three others who were held hostage in a San Joaquin Valley home.

The shooter, identified Tuesday as Jose Manuel Ramirez Jr., was fatally shot by Kern County sheriff’s deputies. He had a history of arrests on domestic violence offenses and a restraining order was supposed to have prohibited him from having guns and approaching the home where the attack occurred Sunday in Wasco, a small community in the middle of farm fields northwest of Bakersfield.

The sheriff’s office has not said what led to the deadly shootings or the specifics of the 41-year-old’s previous arrests. He had been armed with an AK-47 style rifle and a handgun on Sunday…

Curtis Sliwa Says Critical Race Theory is ‘Creeping’ Into NYC Schools

Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa said Tuesday that Mayor Bill de Blasio’s Department of Education should prioritize reading, writing and math, not “critical race theory,” a doctrine that posits that racism underpins America’s history, laws and institutions.

“We’re saying hold on a second. … Children have lost a full year. You’d think we’d want to be focused on the basics: reading, writing, arithmetic,” Sliwa, a father of three public school students, told The Post on Tuesday.

Sliwa joined Public Advocate candidate Tony Herbert, former congressional candidate Scherie Murray and others in Lower Manhattan to call attention to their claim that “critical race theory” is “starting to creep into the curriculum” at city public schools, the Republican mayoral nominee said.

Following Another Bloody Weekend in Seattle, Homicides on Track to Eclipse Previous Year’s Record Highs

In a span of three hours on Sunday morning, three people were killed and five were wounded in a series of unrelated shootings in across Seattle according to the Seattle Police Department. This followed yet another homicide Friday night.

On Friday, Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan had just announced a new proposal to implement an alternative 911 call model which would utilize specialized responses beyond law enforcement. Meanwhile, the Mayor and the City Council refuse to aknowledge that the uptick in violence followed the council defunding the police in favor of social workers and gave the money to community organizations, including some of those involved in the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ).

In 2020, following the defunding of SPD by the Seattle City Council, homicides in Seattle doubled from 2019, resulting in the highest number of homicides in more than a quarter of a century.

Gunman in Deadly Fort Worth Shooting Stoned to Death by Angry Mob

FORT WORTH, Texas — Police say a group of people in Fort Worth stoned a gunman to death after he killed one person and injured three others.

The incident happened about 1 a.m. Monday in Fort Worth’s Como neighborhood on the southwest side in the 5600 block of Shiloh Drive, near Bryant Irvin Road and the Chisholm Trail Parkway.

Police said a “small gathering” was happening in someone’s backyard when a person became upset and left. He shortly returned with another person and got into an argument with multiple people. At that point, he shot at least one person, non-fatally, police said.

After that, the other people at the party started chasing the shooter. The gunman then turned around and fired into the small crowd. In response, they began throwing landscaping stones and bricks back at the gunman.

“What we’re saying is some of the people picked up what we call stone pavers. What you line your driveway with points on them. That was something they initially could get,” said Tracy Carter with Fort Worth PD. “I don’t want to say maybe used as defense, but that’s what they were able to throw at the gunman.”

Police said the group eventually caught up to the gunman. At that point, the gunman resumed firing at the crowd and hit at least two more people. One person died from their injuries at the scene.

“They either caught him, or he fell to the ground,” Carter said. “And at that time, he lost his life what we believe by stones. The ME is going to have to determine that.”

A handgun believed to be used by the gunman was found by police.

Carter has a clear warning about the crowd’s reaction.

“Let the authorities handle it. We do not advise someone going after someone who has a gun,” he said…

Nearly a Year Into Lightfoot’s Anti-Violence Plan, Many of Chicago’s Most Dangerous Neighborhoods Are Doing Worse

Last year, Mayor Lori Lightfoot unveiled an ambitious plan to narrow Chicago’s “safety gap” — the deep disparity among neighborhoods where some residents are 42 times more likely to be shot.

The plan, “Our City, Our Safety,” proposed flooding the 15 most violent community areas with resources — not just violence intervention programs but help with jobs and housing and health.

But nearly a year into the effort, gun violence is up in at least nine of the areas. The numbers are far starker when you look at how crime has risen since 2019, when Lightfoot took office, before the current spike in gun violence swept the city and the country.

A court in Cologne sentenced Oko for this article, charging him with “incitement of hate”. Polish Deputy Justice Minister Marcin Romanowski emphasized that, through this verdict, the German court has trampled on academic freedom.

“We are dealing with a situation in which a prominent academic, Dariusz Oko, along with a German theologian with substantial scientific achievements, have published an academic article which has uncovered the activity of a group of homosexual rapists within the Church, and this was deemed ‘incitement of hate’ by a German court,” he stated. The German professor in question is 90-year-old old Father Johannes Stohr, who is the editor-in-chief of “Thelogisches”.

Austria: Sebastian Kurz Still Believes Others Will Solve the Migration Issue for Him

In a televised interview for the German Bild news network, Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz spoke about his government’s plans for dealing with the migrant influx from Afghanistan expected as a result of the expansion of Taliban rule in the country. Although the chancellor is clearly aware of the security risks such a development would bring, he lacks any plans for an Austrian solution. Instead, he puts his faith in German Chancellor Merkel, the European Borders Agency Frontex, and Turkey’s willingness to hold back the masses headed for Europe.

The influx of unchecked masses from Afghanistan is a very sensitive topic in Austria due to the recent rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl by Afghan migrants. Kurz has made it clear during the interview that he is indeed nervous about a repeat of the 2015 migration crisis, when almost two million Middle-Eastern migrants flooded the European mainland. As he put it, Europe must create measures to prevent this from repeating itself, as many Afghans are queueing up for European visas due to the worsening security situation in their own country. It is important not to make the same mistakes as in 2015, as the problems of Afghanistan will not be solved by an unrestricted flow of migrants to Europe.

Austrian Chancellor Vows to Continue Repatriation of Afghan Migrants

“I do not want to bring this sick ideology into Europe” Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, concerned about the spread of extremist Islamist views in Europe, told German daily Bild in an interview.

Kurz made it clear in a newspaper interview that the deportation of Afghan refugees from Austria would continue despite the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan. The Austrian chancellor made these statements just days after Angela Merkel had expressed a similar view, adding that he fears that the 2015 refugee crisis will recur due to a new wave of Afghans, and that for this reason he expects urgent action from the EU.

Kurz said that in order to prevent a repeat of what happened six years ago, the Austrian government will continue to deport Afghans even if Afghanistan comes under Taliban rule. The Austrian chancellor justified his decision by saying that the civilian population could go to safe, government-controlled areas of Afghanistan instead of European states such as Germany, Austria, and Sweden, as well as to neighboring countries and even Turkey.
