Gates of Vienna News Feed 7/13/2021

The flow of migrants entering Greece has decreased significantly this year, and the number of refugee camp residents on Lesvos has dropped below 5,000 for the first time since 2016. One can’t help but wonder if it has something to do with the situation in Lithuania, which has just passed a new law in an effort to crack down on the flood of illegal migrants entering from Belarus.

In other news, there are now nine times as many gang members as police in Chicago, as officers retire in record numbers while recruitment flags.

Brussels Won’t be Able to Derail This Hungarian Economy

Despite a robust six percent growth predicted for Hungary in 2021, Brussels still believes that it can force its way, this time by withdrawing recovery funds under the pretext of the rule of law. The obsession with making the Hungarian people an example by the European progressive elite for Hungarian defiance in resisting the spread of LMBTQ ideology was confirmed by the vote in the European Parliament last week, when left-wing MEPs overwhelmingly voted to begin punitive proceedings against the conservative-ruled country. The demand towards the European Commission was to withhold EU recovery and development funds from the country until the government of Viktor Orban repeals the child protection law that raises jail terms for acts of pedophilia and forbids gender identity propaganda in schools. However, according to Hungarian finance minister Mihaly Varga, whichever way the EC sets out to punish his country, the Hungarian economy is resilient enough to withstand an economic onslaught of such magnitude.

Surging Prices for Used Cars, Gasoline, Food and Airfares Are Driving the Jump in Inflation

Price increases in used cars, car rentals — as well as a rebound in airfares, lodging and food — are behind the biggest inflation surge since 2008 as the U.S. economy reopens.

The consumer price index jumped 5.4% from a year earlier, the largest increase since before the worst of the financial crisis, the Labor Department reported Tuesday. Excluding the volatile food and energy categories, inflation increased 4.5%, the largest move since September 1991. On a monthly basis, headline and core prices rose 0.9% against 0.5% Dow Jones estimates.

Chicago Gang Members Outnumber Cops 9 to 1 Amid Record Retirement

Gang members in Chicago outnumber law enforcement officers about 9 to 1 — as officers are on track to retire in record numbers this year, police said Wednesday.

Police Superintendent David Brown estimated last year that there are about 117,000 gang associates, who are part of the city’s 55 known gangs.

The number greatly exceeds the city’s police force, which employs around 13,000 officers.

The disparity may be even worse due to the droves of cops retiring this year, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

DeSantis Wants Florida Companies to Provide Internet Access in Cuba Amid Protests

Gov. Ron DeSantis said Tuesday he wants Florida companies to provide internet connection to residents in Cuba, as the island entered its third day of protests amid widespread internet shutdowns that have hindered the flow of information.

“What does the regime do when you start to see these images? They shut down the internet. They don’t want the truth to be out, they don’t want people to be able to communicate,” said DeSantis during a roundtable with Republican lawmakers and members of the Cuban exile community in Miami.

“And so one of the things I think we should be able to do with our private companies or with the United States is to provide some of that internet via satellite. We have companies on the Space Coast that launch these things,” he added.

Opposition to ‘Critical Race Theory’ Dominates Public Comments at School Board Meeting

FLOYD COUNTY — A crowd showed up at a recent New Albany-Floyd County school board meeting in opposition to “critical race theory.”

Many local residents attended Monday’s board meeting to talk during the public comments portion about the topic, as well as COVID-19 protocols in schools. The public comments on both topics took up about an hour of the two-and-a-half hour board meeting.

Opposition to critical race theory (CRT) has become common at school boards across the United States in recent months, with many people protesting and/or speaking during the time set aside for public comments.

On Monday, community members urged the NAFC school board to “ban” the teaching, although school officials say CRT is not taught in the district.

Rapper Gunned Down Outside Chicago Jail, Shot 64 Times

A Chicago rapper was gunned down in a hail of bullets moments after he walked out of jail and had been fitted for an ankle bracelet, reports said.

When 31-year-old Londre Sylvester left Cook County Jail just before 9 p.m. Saturday, gunmen got out of two parked cars and shot him 64 times, according to a police report obtained by the Chicago Tribune.

Two women were also injured in the ambush — a 60-year old woman who’d just posted Sylvester’s bond and a 35-year-old woman who worked at the jail, CWBChicago said.

Sylvester rapped locally as KTS Dre and had tattooed KTS on his neck alongside a target sign, the report stated. KTS stands for “Kill to Survive,” the outlet said.

Standoff Suspects Were Taken Down With Sonic Blast

The Wakefield police chief revealed more details of authorities’ encounter with the heavily armed Rise of the Moors suspects.

WAKEFIELD, MA — Police used a sonic blast to incapacitate most of the Rise of the Moors suspects in the I-95 standoff earlier this month, according to Wakefield’s chief of police.

Chief Steven Skory appeared Monday night before Town Council to provide an update on the July 3 incident that shut down I-95 for hours and resulted in a localized lockdown.

Skory said three Wakefield police officers assisted a state trooper who first came upon the 11 armed men on the side of the highway in the early morning hours. When the trooper asked for the men’s licenses to drive or carry weapons, they “took up the sovereign attitude that they did not have to adhere by our laws,” according to the chief.

The trooper and Wakefield police spent about 1 hour 40 minutes speaking to the men until informing them they would likely be arrested. At that point three of the men started loading weapons and eight others went into the woods, prompting the call to the regional SWAT team.

Skory said the wooded area the men went into is vast, backing up to the Subaru of Wakefield, Parker Road, Elm Street and running the length of the commuter rail down North Avenue. The response team set up a perimeter, but police still had only a few dozen officers. The call was soon made for more backup — about 150 more officers from the North Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council responded.

Two of the suspects at some point made their way to North Avenue and were arrested near the Wakefield Municipal Gas & Light building. One of the men had a handgun, both had full fatigues and body armor.

When the remaining suspects went back to their vehicles on the side of the highway, police decided to move on them.

The Wakefield Department of Public Works put plows on dump trucks and blocked the highway in case the suspects tried to flee. Police then deployed an LRAD, a high-pitch alarm that temporarily incapacitates people, and took the remaining nine suspects into custody.

There were no injuries.

The suspects professed to be part of the Rise of the Moors, a group that adheres to sovereign citizen ideology and linked to a larger movement the Southern Poverty Law Center calls extremist.

Ten of the men appeared in a series of bizarre court hearings last week in which many of them denied legal counsel, broke into outbursts and generally rebuked the authority of the court.

Six of the suspects were ordered held without bail Friday. Four more are due in court again Tuesday. One suspect, a 17-year-old, is going through juvenile court proceedings.

Success of Asian Americans Debunks Critical Race Theory, ‘Inconvenient Minority’ Author Says

The author of a new book feels Asian Americans are an “inconvenient minority” to the liberal media because as their community succeeds based on merit alone, they debunk the critical race theory narrative that opportunities of non-Whites are limited because of systematic racism in the United States.

“Asian Americans prove that critical race theory is not true, cannot be true,” author Kenny Xu told Fox News. “Asian Americans never needed politics to succeed in this country. They just want to be treated based on merit.”

Critics Point to Country of Origin After Controversy Over Racist Messages Sent to Black England Footballers

After a controversy surrounding racist messages sent to black England footballers led to calls for people to be forced to provide identity documents to create a social media account, some pointed to evidence suggesting the vast majority of the messages were posted by users from South Asia and the Middle East.

EU Scraps ‘Digital Levy’ Targeting American Tech Giants Amid Global Tax Reform Push

The EU just took another step toward endorsing Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen’s international corporate tax reform plan by reportedly sidelining a European “digital tax” that would have mostly impacted American tech firms. Brussels is moving ahead despite Ireland’s reservations about the plan (which we’ll get in to below).

To make the deal more palatable for countries like Ireland, the US is offering a bigger piece of tax revenues from American multinationals, including Facebook and Google, to be distributed based on where those companies operate. In exchange, the world would agree to maintain a higher minimum corporate tax rate, helping to de-incentivize American firms from trying to move out of the US (it’s critical if the Biden Administration wants to offset its spending-heavy agenda with the biggest tax hikes in decades.

A dysfunctional family, a lack of success at school, a failed relationship, or the desire to belong somewhere. These are the aspects with which a path of radicalism often begins. Social Credit Score? Italy Could Require Vax Passport to Board High-Speed Trains

Italians may be forced to present a vaccination passport to board high-speed trains as the government considers only allowing passengers with the pass to increase capacity, a development with obvious echoes of China’s long-established social credit system.

Trenitalia, the government-owned company that runs much of the national railway system in Italy, can currently only run trains at 50 per cent capacity. But that could change to 100 per cent in the coming days as the government considers making a “green pass” mandatory for high-speed rail travel.

UK: Radio Host Says “Racists” Should Have Bank Accounts, Citizenship Stripped

Radio host Mike Graham has called for “racists” to be stripped of their bank accounts, passports and other life necessities, an interesting assertion given that Graham himself has been denounced as a racist numerous times before.

Graham was responding to a controversy in the UK over racist social media posts targeting black England football players, despite evidence suggesting the vast majority of the messages were sent by people in India and other South Asian and Middle Eastern countries.

“I’ve got a plan, the time has come to not only find these people, not only to prosecute them for their lawless behavior, but also basically to excommunicate them from our society,” said Graham.

Chaos Spreads in South Africa as Authorities Struggle to Contain Looting, Violence

Every single shop, every single warehouse as far as the horizon in every direction has been looted. That’s the scene from a helicopter flying over South Africa’s third-largest city, Durban — for 40 minutes without a break.

Tens of thousands of people branded as “opportunistic criminals” smashing down the doors of the city’s largest malls and stores — including several huge discount stores which are part of the U.S. chain Walmart — and literally emptying them of everything. Because they can, without much if any chance of retribution. Because the police are totally outnumbered in general, and specifically because they are often too scared to risk their lives against huge mobs. One policeman has been killed. Forty-four others have also lost their lives. Children, old pensioners, Black and White. Once the stores have been emptied, many have been set alight. A total breakdown of law and order in what is being called “anarchy.”

  1. We always knew AG Barr was a crook, this is just another article of proof in his long history of government deep state actions and support of them.

I’m not even surprised or even shocked by this anymore.

US AG Barr, that helped cover up the government’s murders of The Branch Davidians in Waco under seige by FBI/BATF, and at Ruby Ridge the multiple Bill Clinton crimes…. won’t go after the crimes committed by Obama and Biden.

Remember that time when AG Barr wanted to use emergency powers to allow people who were arrested to be detained indefinitely, and everyone was like, “What, no, the Constitution says you can’t just keep people locked up without a trial.”

Aside from being anti-US Constitution and anti-2nd amendment…AG Barr also was key in the government cover up of the murders of Randy Weaver’s family
