Drivers are in store for the highest prices in seven years this summer, Reuters writes this week, as retail gas prices are the most expensive since 2014 at about $3.04 per gallon.

After Grade-Rigging Scandal, Baltimore City Schools No Longer Holding Back Failing Students

A new grading policy, put forth by the Baltimore City School Board, Tuesday, will allow students who are struggling and failing classes to move up to the next grade level due to the virus pandemic, according to local news Fox 45.

Instead of holding back students, Baltimore City Public School System’s (BCPSS) new grading policy will push up struggling students who failed classes during the pandemic and have their educational status tested during the fall semester to determine what skills they missed during virtual learning classes.

Appellate Court Strikes Down Racial and Gender Preferences in Biden’s COVID Relief Law

This judicial ruling about the raging debates over group-based benefits vividly highlights the social, political and culture divisions driving U.S. politics…

A federal appellate court on Thursday invalidated the racial and gender preferences in President Biden’s $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act as unconstitutional. The Cincinnati-based Sixth Circuit of Appeals ruled that provisions of that law, designed to grant preferences to minority-owned small-restaurant owners for COVID relief, violate the 14th Amendment’s guarantee of equal protection under the law:

No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

The specific provision struck down was part of the law’s $29 billion Restaurant Revitalization Fund grant program for small, privately owned restaurants struggling to meet payroll and rent due to the COVID crisis. The law, which was passed almost entirely by a party-line vote in March, grants priority status to restaurants that have 51% ownership or more composed of specific racial and ethnic groups as well as women. By effectively relegating struggling businesses owned by white males or ethnicities and nationalities excluded from a priority designation “to the back of the line,” the COVID relief program, ruled the court by a 2-1 decision, ran afoul of core constitutional guarantees.

George Floyd Anniversary Rioters Face Multiple Felonies in Portland

The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office has filed charges against four out of the five suspects arrested when hundreds of Antifa rioted in downtown Portland for the anniversary of George Floyd’s death.

On Tuesday night, more than 200 people gathered outside the Justice Center in response to a pre-announced direct action by Antifa. Most of the people were dressed head to toe in black. The mob proceeded to attempt to light the Justice Center on fire by pushing a large dumpster against the building and setting it alight.

Idaho Governor Repeals Mask Mandate Ban Issued by Lieutenant While He Was Out of State

Idaho Gov. Brad Little (R) on Friday repealed Lt. Gov. Janice McGeachin’s (R) executive order that banned statewide mask mandates one day earlier, calling her action an “an abuse of power.”

The big picture: While Little — who is expected to seek re-election — never issued a statewide mask mandate, some were put in place in counties, cities and schools. McGeachin, who recently announced her own gubernatorial campaign, issued the order on Thursday without informing Little’s office.

Man Claimed to be Andy Ngo Chased Away From Portland Protest

PORTLAND, Ore. (Portland Tribune) — Left-wing protesters chased down, attacked and unmasked a man they believe to be the right-wing author Andy Ngo in disguise during a downtown Portland protest on Friday, May 28.

The Portland Tribune has not independently confirmed the fleeing man’s identity, and Ngo did not immediately issue any public statements on the matter.

One longtime protest observer told the Tribune he saw Ngo working out at a gym in a southeast Portland neighborhood one week ago, with gym staff reportedly greeting Ngo by name.

Movie Theaters Across the United States End Mask-Mandate for Vaccinated Movie-Goers

The three largest movie theater chains in the country announced that fully vaccinated guests no longer need to wear masks, but those who are not must still don a face covering.

On Saturday, AMC Entertainment, Cinemark, and Regal Cinemas all lifted their mask-mandates for those who are fully vaccinated. This decision comes two weeks after the Centers for Disease Control announced that “fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask or physically distance in any setting, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.”

Northwest Side Protests Urging Justice for Anthony Alvarez Met With Pro-Police Demonstrators

CHICAGO — Two crowds gathered in front of the 16th District Chicago police station on Saturday with two different reasons.

On one side at the intersection of Northwest Highway and Milwaukee Avenue, protesters were screaming for justice following the police killing of 22-year-old Anthony Alvarez in Portage Park in March.

On the other side, demonstrators gathered to show support for Chicago police, as well as the officer who fatally shot Alvarez.

Radical Soros-Backed Group Supporting Legal Bail Fund for Violent Pro-Palestinian ‘Activists’

The radical Soros-funded Alliance for Global Justice (AFGJ) is a “fiscal sponsor” of the newly-created Palestine Freedom Fund, a project of the rabid anti-Israel NY4Palestine Coalition which “as a first initiative” has raised nearly $20,000 to fund legal expenses for Palestinian protesters who participated in antisemitic demonstrations that descended into violence against Jews in Midtown Manhattan last week.

The fund is aligned with three supporting radical anti-Israel organizations including the Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network, which process the donations of the fund.

Ron DeSantis Vows to Stand Against Vaccine Passports: ‘You Don’t Pass Laws’ and ‘Not Enforce Them Against Giant Corporations’

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) vowed to enforce the law on vaccine passports in the wake of Celebrity Cruises, which will set sail from Port Everglades next month after gaining approval from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), requiring guests to show proof of vaccination prior to boarding.

“We are going to enforce Florida law,” DeSantis said Friday, days after Celebrity Cruises announced its clearance from the CDC to set sail. However, all guests 16 and over will not be permitted to board the Celebrity Edge unless they are “fully vaccinated.” Celebrity Cruises plans to lower the age threshold to 12 and over beginning August 1, 2021.

San Jose Shooter Had 25,000 Rounds of Ammunition in His Home, Sheriff Says

SAN FRANCISCO — The gunman who nursed a seething hatred of his California workplace amassed an arsenal and 25,000 rounds of ammunition at the home he tried to burn down before killing nine co-workers at a rail yard, authorities said after searching the residence.

Samuel James Cassidy’s home in San Jose was a hoarder’s nest of clutter and weaponry that included 12 firearms, multiple cans of gasoline and suspected Molotov cocktails, Santa Clara County sheriff’s officials said Friday.

The cache was in addition to the three 9 mm handguns that Cassidy, 57, brought Wednesday to the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority in San Jose, authorities said. He also had packed a duffle bag with 32 high-capacity magazines and fired 39 shots before killing himself as law enforcement closed in.

While witnesses have said Cassidy appeared to target certain people, the Sheriff’s Office said Friday that “it is clear that this was a planned event and the suspect was prepared to use his firearms to take as many lives as he possibly could.”

Cassidy also rigged his home to burn down before leaving for his workplace several miles away by putting bullets in a cooking pot on a stove that apparently detonated, igniting fire accelerants that were placed in the kitchen, sheriff’s officials said…

Ted Cruz Follows Suit From Red States and Introduces a Bill to Ban the Federal Government From Using Vaccine Passports

Three Republican senators have introduced a bill to ban the federal government from establishing COVID-19 vaccine passports, following in the footsteps of at least 10 GOP-led states.

Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas, Mike Braun of Indiana, and Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming introduced the legislation to the Senate Friday. The bill would also prevent the government from working with third parties, such as airlines, on setting up their own vaccine passport systems.

Texas Republicans Finalize Voting Bill to Preserve Election Integrity

A draft of the bill was circulated Saturday around the state’s House and Senate. The legislature is expected to be sent to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s desk soon.

Bill 7 began as two separate bills: one in the House and one in the Senate. While both aimed to deal with election integrity, the methods suggested by each varied. Following weeks of negotiations, the two chambers have compromised.

The bill would curtail the use of drop boxes, would ban drive-thru voting and 24-hour voting, and would require voters to request absentee ballots rather than allowing election officials to send applications to all voters. Early voting hours would also be set from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The First American City to Authorize “Reparations” is Already Regretting It

Evanston, Illinois made headlines earlier this year by becoming the first city in the US to authorize “reparations” in the form of payments to compensate Black Americans for abuses done to family members. The Chicago suburb’ City Council voted back in March to distribute $400K to eligible black households, with each qualifying family receiving up to $25K for homeownership and or improvement grants, as well as mortgage assistance.

But while proponents on the left praised the move as unprecedented, it turns out that those who designed the proposal were careful to ensure the word “reparations” was nowhere near it. In fact, a lengthy Bloomberg piece telling the story of how the proposal came to be shows that its backers were simply hoping to put new revenue from cannabis legalization to use righting historical wrongs in Evanston.

For starters, only 16 people will initially be eligible for the money (only $400K was approved and it will be doled out in increments of $25K). And what’s more, instead of receiving cash payments, the money must go directly to a bank or a contractor to prevent the recipient from incurring a state or federal tax penalty.

In essence, this shows the futility of making ‘reparations’ a reality via a series of local or municipal movements: there are myriad boundaries at the federal level that make it unrealistic.

Times Square Shooting Suspect Charged With Attempted Murder

A man accused of injuring three people, including a child, when he opened fire in New York City’s Times Square faces numerous charges, including attempted murder.

Farrakhan Muhammad, 31, was captured May 12 in a Florida McDonald’s parking lot after police say he shot Wendy Magrinat, 23; M?rcela Aldana, 43; and Skye Martinez, 4.

He made his initial court appearance virtually in Florida and requested a court-appointed attorney to help him through the extradition process, NBC New York reported.

The New York City Police Department confirmed Friday that Muhammad was in their custody. He’s been charged with attempted murder, three counts of assault, four counts of criminal use of a firearm and three counts of reckless endangerment…

71 Tickets Issued for Illegal Gatherings at Private Residences in Ottawa During Current Stay-at-Home Order

OTTAWA — Ottawa Bylaw officers have issued dozens of tickets for illegal private gatherings, non-essential businesses staying open and for violations in Ottawa parks during the current COVID-19 shutdown and stay-at-home order.

Since the Ontario government imposed the shutdown on Ottawa April 3, Ottawa Bylaw officers have issued 163 tickets for contraventions of Provincial Orders and the Health Protection and Promotion Act.

Alberta Health Services Drops Contempt of Court Application Against Calgary Pastor

CALGARY — Alberta Health Services says it has withdrawn its contempt of court application against a Calgary pastor who was arrested earlier this month on allegations of violating COVID-19 laws.

Tim Stephens was arrested May 9 for allegedly organizing a church service that was held earlier in the day at Fairview Baptist Church, which police said did not comply with public health orders.

Anti-Lockdown Rally Held in Pembroke

PEMBROKE — Upwards of 150 people gathered in Riverside Park in Pembroke Saturday for an anti-lockdown rally, calling for businesses and communities to reopen during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are anti-lockdown, we want to help the lockdown end,” says Jack Lapierre, one of the speakers at the rally, to CTV News Ottawa. “The businesses are essential services. The people need their businesses to be open.”

Canadian Soldier Who Spoke at Anti-Lockdown Rally, Called COVID-19 Vaccine a ‘Killer’ Charged With Mutiny

A member of the Canadian Armed Forces has been charged with mutiny for speaking out against the COVID-19 vaccine and urging colleagues not to help with vaccine distribution.

Officer Cadet Ladislas Kenderesi has been charged with one count of persuading another person to join in a mutiny and one count of behaving in a scandalous manner unbecoming of an officer, according to the Ottawa Citizen.

In December, Kenderesi was filmed at an anti-lockdown rally in Toronto, wearing his Canadian Forces uniform and a nametag.

Protesters Gather at Forks Against Public Health Orders, Minus Chris Sky

Around 150 people gathered near the Canadian Museum for Human Rights at The Forks on Friday evening to protest ongoing pandemic public health orders.

The group, minus Ontario anti-lockdown rally leader Chris (Sky) Saccoccia, who is allegedly out of province avoiding arrest in Manitoba, stood around a smoking barbeque listening to speaker Lynne Nelson. From a microphone positioned next to the parkade at The Forks, Nelson chastised news media and the government. At one point, several non-participants lobbed bottled water at the crowd.

Timmins Police Charge 11 People Following Anti-Lockdown Protest

SUDBURY — The Timmins Police Service said Wednesday it has charged 11 people following an anti-lockdown rally May 15 at Hollinger Park.

Following a “comprehensive investigation,” they are charged with breaching the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, police said.

“The Timmins Police Service was aware of the demonstration and deployed its officers in such a way as to preserve public safety,” police said in a news release.

Victory: Vancouver Family’s Quarantine Fines Dropped

A family of four who fled from Canada to Mexico after becoming concerned with the government increasingly using COVID-19 to impede on citizens’ rights has recently had a big win for freedom!

After five months in Mexico, and noticing that strict COVID measures were not all that different than Canada’s, this family decided to return to Canada, to come back and fight. And fight they did.

Upon entry to the country, the family refused both the invasive PCR test and refused being forced to stay in a COVID hotel at their own expense.

Police learned about the rally from information circulating on social media. Similar gatherings took place on March 20, April 3, April 17, May 1, and May 15, police said.

“There is currently a declaration of emergency and provincial stay-at-home order in effect,” police said in a news release. “Indoor and outdoor gatherings are prohibited except for weddings, funerals or religious services where attendance is limited to 10 people. The organizers of gatherings can be fined a minimum of $10,000 and attendees can receive a $750 ticket.”

Videos on Twitter show a crowd taking over a Westfield shopping centre in Shepherd’s Bush — despite initial attempts by police to block an entrance.

But the invasion inside the shopping centre appeared short-lived. Journalist Damien Gayle reported the No Vaccine Passports protest was cleared from the shopping area after about 20 minutes by police with batons. He said he did not see anyone get hit or arrested.

GREATER Manchester Police (GMP) has handed out more than 5,200 fines for alleged coronavirus breaches.

Data published by the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) shows that the force has dished out 5,247 fixed penalty notice (FPN) fines between March 27, 2020 and May 16 this year.

Pakistan’s Khan to Islamize School Curriculum, Denigrating Christians, Jews and Hindus

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan is Islamizing Pakistan’s school curriculum. The “current Pakistani curriculum already contains bigoted and hateful material and makes derogatory references to various religious minority communities in Pakistan. Virginia County’s Schools Warned to Revoke Teacher’s Suspension for Declining to Use Students’ Preferred Pronouns

In Virginia, Loudoun County Public Schools officials were warned Friday to revoke their suspension of a teacher for declining to use students’ preferred pronouns or face further legal action.

Tanner Cross, who taught at Leesburg Elementary School, was suspended after speaking publicly May 26 during a school board meeting in opposition to the system’s proposed policy that teachers must use the pronouns preferred by students rather than the pronouns consistent with their biological sex.

Cross was informed May 28 that he was being suspended “pending an investigation of allegation that [he] engaged in conduct that had a disruptive impact on the operations of Leesburg Elementary School.”

On Friday, Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) Senior Counsel Tyson Langhofer told school officials in a letter that they must either revoke the suspension and excise all records of it from Cross’s personnel file or he will take further legal action.
