Eurozone Suffers Double-Dip Recession as Pandemic Impact Continues

The eurozone’s economy has fallen back into recession as the impact of the pandemic continues to hit activity.

Europe’s economies have been set back by a renewed surge in infections this year and Covid-related restrictions.

The eurozone shrank by 0.6% in the January-to-March period — the second consecutive contraction, which is a widely-used definition of a recession.

It is the second such episode, a so-called double-dip recession, since the onset of the pandemic.

Basecamp Sheds 30% of Workforce After Banning Political Discussion in the Workplace

About one third of Basecamp’s staff quit after the tech company announced a ban on political conversations and activism in the workplace.

Banning political discussions in the workplace is a controversial topic met with almost as much criticism as support. Some see it as a rejection of free speech, arguing that politics has a place in the workplace and that employees should be allowed to use work hours and resources to discuss politics. Others see it as a good opportunity to purge the woke activism that has afflicted several corporations.

Feds Raid Alaska Spa in Search of Nancy Pelosi’s Stolen Laptop

Federal agents raided a small resort in Homer, Alaska, this week, telling the owners they were on the hunt for a laptop stolen out of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office during the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol.

Marilyn Hueper, who owns the picturesque Homer Inn & Spa, says feds seized her laptop computers and a cellphone. Another phone, which belonged to husband Paul Hueper, was reviewed but later returned to him, The Associated Press reported.

Marilyn Hueper told the local Kenai radio station KSRM that federal agents believed she and her husband had Pelosi’s laptop, and had been part of the mob which forcibly breached the capitol during a riot that left five dead.

“They said, ‘Well, we’re here for Nancy Pelosi’s laptop.’ And I said, ‘Oh, so it was stolen and it’s at large, good to know. I thought maybe it was just conspiracy theory, so thanks for the intel,’“ Hueper said.

Hueper claims agents showed her photos of a woman from the Jan. 6 riot who bears a striking resemblance to her, but that she told them they had made a mistake.

‘Follow the Science’: Documents Suggest Biden Let Teachers’ Union Shape CDC School Reopening Policy

Newly-released documents suggest that one of the country’s most powerful teachers’ unions shaped Biden administration policies on the reopening of schools, despite President Joe Biden’s pledge to “follow the science” on pandemic policy.

The documents, obtained by the conservative group Americans for Public Trust through a Freedom of Information Act request, were reported Saturday by the New York Post. They show the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) lobbying the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) — and succeeding in having some of their recommendations adopted.

Gunman Kills Two and Wounds Another Before Being Shot by Police at a Wisconsin Casino

Two people were killed and another was seriously wounded at a shooting at the Oneida Casino near Green Bay, Wisconsin, according to Lt. Kevin Pawlak of the Brown County Sheriff’s Office.

A gunman fatally shot two people and seriously wounded another at a Wisconsin casino on Saturday night before he was shot and killed by police, according to Lt. Kevin Pawlak of the Brown County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators believe the suspect had a “personal relationship” with an employee at the Duck Creek restaurant inside the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center, which is attached to the Oneida Casino near Green Bay, Wisconsin, Pawlak said.

The person the gunman was targeting wasn’t at the casino at the time, so the gunman instead shot the intended target’s “co-workers or friends,” Pawlak said.

Two witnesses described the scene as chaotic, saying they heard gunshots and saw people running for their lives.

“At first, we didn’t really know what to expect. Then once we seen the cop running in there with an AR-15, we knew that this is getting pretty serious,” witness Dylan Luehring of Mayville, Wisconsin, told CNN affiliate WLUK. “Once we heard the shots, we knew this is no joke anymore.”

“Pretty thankful we could get out of there, and all of us are safe,” Luehring said.

Adam Olig, also of Mayville, told the station the scene was chaotic.

“Seen people that were a lot closer. There were people running all over the place, running for their dear lives,” Olig said…

BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. — A demonstration and march for Daunte Wright took place Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn Center, beginning at the location where Wright was killed and ending outside the city’s police department.

According to KARE 11 reporter Charmaine Nero, hundreds were in attendance for the rally and march, including members of Wright’s family.

Wright, a 20-year-old Black man, was shot and killed during a traffic stop by former Brooklyn Center police officer Kim Potter, who is white. She and former Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon submitted their resignations shortly after.

Gannon said he believes Potter shot Wright by accident, mistaking her gun for her Taser. Wright’s family and civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who represents them, say they don’t believe it was an accident. Crump pointed out that Potter worked for the Brooklyn Center Police Department for 26 years and even trained other officers…

Sen. Hawley Calls Big Tech ‘Greatest Threat, ‘ Slams Its ‘Woke’ Agenda

Sen. Josh Hawley called Big Tech the “greatest threat” to American liberty, accusing the social media giants of interfering in the 2020 presidential election and censoring conservative voices in an attempt to press their “woke agenda.”

The Missouri Republican has had the tech giants in his crosshairs since being elected to the Senate in November 2018, warning in an interview with Fox News published Sunday that they are “so ubiquitous, so powerful, they are more powerful by the day.”

Hawley said Big Tech “interfered big time” in the election, noting how Twitter and Facebook blocked The Post’s ability to circulate its expose about Hunter Biden’s dealings with foreign governments while his father was vice president.

Tennessee’s Sen. Bill Hagerty, Republican, is to introduce a bill that will redefine Big Tech platforms as common carriers, removing what he says are some protections these platforms enjoy under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.

Hagerty’s bill draws from a recommendation by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, who said the censorship on Big Tech platforms could be ended if they were treated as common carriers.

In an article published by the Wall Street Journal, Hagerty argued that, like phone networks and trains, online platforms “are essential to everyday goings-on,” therefore, should be treated as common carriers, which are subject “to special regulations, including a general requirement to serve all comers without discrimination.”

Simon & Schuster Employees Declare They Don’t Want to Publish, Edit or Promote Books Advocating ‘Islamophobia’

The American left long ago embraced authoritarianism and fascism, and is increasingly intolerant of any point of view other than its own. The term “Islamophobia” is an illegitimate conflation of two distinct phenomena: crimes against innocent Muslims, which are never justified, and honest analysis of the motivating ideology of jihad terror, which is always necessary. It is inconceivable that anyone would want to publish a book calling for attacks on innocent Muslims or any innocent people, but there are many books discussing the motivating ideology of jihad terrorism. Islamic advocacy groups and their leftist allies have been insisting for years that they, too, constituted “Islamophobia.” Such analyses are what these fascists at Simon & Schuster want to stamp out. If the left succeeds in consolidating power, it will be impossible to publish, and likely illegal to enunciate publicly, any opposition to jihad violence and Sharia oppression of women and others, for there is no example of any such opposition not being considered “Islamophobic.”

No More Oath Breaking! Nineteen Active and Retired Police Officers Take the Province of Ontario to Court Over Wuhan Virus Lockdown Measures.

At a recent press conference, Rocco Galati, a Toronto-based lawyer and the executive director of the Constitutional Rights Centre, announced that 15 active and four former police officers are now in the process of taking the province of Ontario to court regarding the ongoing clampdown on freedoms due to COVID-19.

The notice of application was recently filed in Ontario Superior Court. It names Premier Doug Ford, the attorneys general of Ontario and Canada, and the chiefs of the police services of Toronto, York, Niagara, Ottawa and Hamilton as respondents. The application challenges the province’s COVID-19 measures as being unconstitutional. It also argues that mandating police officers to enforce these rules is a violation of the oath undertaken by Ontario’s sworn officers.

Belgian Police Detain 132 in Virus Restrictions Protest

BRUSSELS — Police have detained 132 people who took part in an illegal party in a Brussels park to protest COVID-19 restrictions, authorities said Sunday.

About 15 people, including protesters and police, were injured in clashes, police spokeswoman Ilse Van de Keere said.

About 2,000 revelers and protesters had massed in the park Saturday for the second time in a month, and police used water cannons and tear gas to disperse them.

Scattered around, police and protesters clashed until deep in the evening. The government and police had warned people for a week to stay away from the party to no avail. Clashes erupted after big crowds started gathering late in the afternoon.

Some protesters gathered around a bonfire shouting “Freedom!” and “Where is the party? Here is the party!” Some pelted the police with objects.

Belgium still has strict rules banning major gatherings and insists on people wearing face masks in large crowds.

Muslims commit 91 percent of honor killings worldwide. The Palestinian Authority gives pardons or suspended sentences for honor murders. Iraqi women have asked for tougher sentences for Islamic honor murderers, who get off lightly now. Syria in 2009 scrapped a law limiting the length of sentences for honor killings, but “the new law says a man can still benefit from extenuating circumstances in crimes of passion or honour ‘provided he serves a prison term of no less than two years in the case of killing.’“ And in 2003 the Jordanian Parliament voted down on Islamic grounds a provision designed to stiffen penalties for honor killings. Al-Jazeera reported that “Islamists and conservatives said the laws violated religious traditions and would destroy families and values.”

Until the encouragement Islamic law gives to honor killing is acknowledged and confronted, more women will suffer.

The developer insists that it will listen to a recording only when a complaint is filed; it will not actively listen to all recordings. Though, that does mean it will store recordings of player conversations.

  1. Another day, another basket of lunacy.

    Thank you, Baron.

Btw, gateway pundit has become largely clickbait, with wall to wall ads. I have an ad blocker, so for me it’s wall to wall grey. I try not to go there anymore…

    • I mostly avoid GP, too. They have occasional exclusives, but they’re largely derivative from other material, so stopping there is not an absolute necessity.

      • I have AdBlock as well so I don’t get all those disturbing ads flying at me.

  2. “Kehinde Andrews, who teaches at the publicly-funded Birmingham City University’s School of Social Sciences, told Bloomberg that the idea of “incremental change, progress within the system” in the United States frames the issues the country faces incorrectly, as “the actual system is the problem”. ”

Kehinde Andrews is a pseudo academic obsessed by Race and Colonial issues. He is anti British, Anti-western and anti-white yet resides in the UK, where he continues to bite the hand that feeds him. His inane wittering should be ignored.

    • Ole Kinhende is another bloody 3rd worlder who thinks the natives will change to his way, the way of the bloody 3rd world, he and the rest of his ilk are about to find out that it is not nice to awaken the wrath of the angry Saxon.
You can no longer ignore these whackademics, you shoot them as Napoleon like to say.

    A Muslim resource writes:
    https://islamnews.ru/news-v-dum-rt-pristydili-beguniy-za-otkrovennuyu-trenirovku-na-fone-mecheti-kul-sharif

The video captures about a dozen participants of the Kazan Marathon in leggings, who squat and dance, looking at the mosque located across the road. Moreover, the operator removes the athletes from the back, as a result, the video turned out to be very frank. Many local residents expressed their outrage at another such trick involving young people. As Rafik Mukhametshin, the deputy head of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Republic of Tatarstan, noted to the publication “Podyom”, the incident is nothing more than a provocation, since there are many places in the city where one can squat against the background of religious objects. According to him, excuses that Russia, they say, is a secular state, therefore, “what we want, we do it” in this situation is impossible. “For the religious Muslim community, such forms are unacceptable,” insists the deputy mufti of the Republic of Tatarstan. The author of the video claims that the mosque got into the frame by accident, and the training before the race was carried out on a stage specially installed here.

    • Anything that offends muslims is alright by me. Muslims are an offence to the human race.

  4. “A juror in the Derek Chauvin trial hid that he was a Black Lives Matter activist to convince the judge that he was “impartial.”
Juror #52, now identified as Brandon Mitchell, is also encouraging people to try to get on juries to “spark some change.”

During jury selection, Mitchell claimed that he had very little knowledge of the case. However, Mitchell was photographed last August wearing a shirt that read “Get your knee off our necks” and “BLM.”” — Not being a lawyer, I don’t know for sure, but this reads as evidence for a Chauvin mistrial–

    • When ole Chauvin get his retrial and gets off, that’ll send those commie blmers into a massive frenzy, then hopefully the cops go to the donut shop instead of letting nature take it’s course and the culling can begin.

    • Chauvins trial lawyer has filed for a new trial because of this black jurors lie. Also Maxine Waters stunt and the cities payout of $27m to the Floyd family will help his defence of Chauvin.
