UBS Predicts 80,000 More Retail Stores Will Close in Five Years

The retail apocalypse has been well documented for readers (see: here & here & here) over the years as tens of thousands of brick and mortar stores nationwide have shuttered their doors. The problem today — is that millions of jobs lost during the pandemic are never coming back — in a consumer-based economy — this sets up for even more store closures.

UBS analyst Michael Lasser told clients this week that a whopping 80,000 retail stores are estimated to close in the next five years as the virus pandemic has deeply scarred the economy and resulted in a permanent shift in how consumers shop, that is, online.

US Job Openings in February Reached Highest Rate on Record

WASHINGTON — The pace of job openings reached the highest level on record in February, a harbinger of healthy hiring and a hopeful sign for those looking for work.

The job openings rate — which is the number of available jobs as a percentage of the employed and the open jobs, combined — rose to 4.9%, the highest since the data was first tracked in December 2000, the Labor Department said Tuesday.

“It Was Intentionally False”: 60 Minutes Slammed for Fabricating “Pay-for-Play” Narrative Against Gov. DeSantis

CBS News’ “60 Minutes” — which still hasn’t covered the New York nursing home scandal — has come under fire for fabricating a “pay for play” narrative that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) gave preferential treatment to Publix to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine because they contributed to his campaign — and then edited out his perfectly reasonable explanation.

A Professor Pushed Back on Mandatory ‘White Fragility’ Training for Four Minutes, The School Investigated Her for Nine Months

Today Reason published a piece by Jesse Singal about an English professor named Elisa Parrett. Parrett teaches at a public technical college outside of Seattle called the Lake Washington Institute of Technology. Last June 19, in the wake of the death of George Floyd, the school held an event called Courageous Conversations which was based partly on Robin DiAngelo’s book White Fragility. The event was mandatory in the sense that the school’s president sent an email asking every professor to attend unless they had a conflict with their teaching schedule. It was also segregated by race, meaning whites in one room and people of color in a separate one.

Authorities Break Up Illegal Weekend Party With Over 5,000 People in Tonto National Forest

TONTO NATIONAL FOREST, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — U.S. Forest Service personnel say officers broke up a huge, illegal party of more than 5,000 people in the Tonto National Forest this past Saturday.

Several Forest Protection Officers patrolling the Lower Sycamore Creek area Saturday night came across the unauthorized gathering. Forest officials say campers and partiers restricted access by taping off sections of the main road to designate the party area, and parked vehicles along the main roads.

Forest officials said that violations included DUI, double riding, speeding and reckless vehicle operation, staging camps in illegal areas, blocking roadways, illegal use of fireworks, and target shooting. There’s no word whether any arrests were made.

By the end of the night, there had been seven crashes and multiple reports of stolen off-highway vehicles. One person was taken to the hospital after two quads collided. The victim had to be taken out of the area by a helicopter since the roads were blocked and an ambulance couldn’t get through.

California: Hamas-Linked CAIR Enraged, Demands Apology and Policy Changes After Muslima Deprived of Hijab in Jail

The Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) indefatigably pushes the notion that Muslims are victims of widespread harassment and discrimination in the U.S. This is in order to deflect attention away from jihad terror activity and to buttress the notion that counter-terror scrutiny of Muslim communities is simply more of this persecution. But actual “hate crimes” against Muslims are so thin on the ground that they have to be manufactured, as in this case. Every other prisoner has to take off whatever hat or headcovering he or she may be wearing, for security reasons: a weapon could easily be concealed within it. But for the Islamic supremacist fascists of Hamas-linked CAIR, safety doesn’t matter. Establishing the precedent that Muslims always and everywhere have and should have rights and privileges above and beyond those of the Infidels — that is the only concern.

“CAIR demands changes after Muslim woman was deprived of head covering in Santa Clara County jail,” by Robert Salonga, Bay Area News Group, April 1, 2021.

CBS Goes Dark on DeSantis, Avoids Mentioning ‘60 Minutes’ Report on Morning, Evening News Programs

CBS appears to be distancing itself from a “60 Minutes” report that has been widely criticized as a “hit piece” against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, by members of both parties.

The report, which aired Sunday, outlined an alleged “pay-for-play” scheme involving DeSantis accepting a $100,000 donation his campaign from the grocery store chain Publix in exchange for the right to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine as part of the state’s rollout.

Critics blasted the report for deceptive editing that omitted DeSantis’ explanation for the vaccine strategy, the omission of Publix’s donations to Democrats, and broadcasting misinformation that is even being called out by Florida liberals.

Immunologist: Pfizer, Moderna Vaccines Could Cause Long-Term Chronic Illness

Back in 1999, leading U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) official Dr. Peter Patriarca contended that modern advances in vaccine technology were rapidly “outpacing researchers’ ability to predict potential vaccine-related adverse events.” Patriarca mused that this could lead to “a situation of unforeseen and unpredictable vaccine outcomes.”

In a new research article published in Microbiology & Infectious Diseases, veteran immunologist J. Bart Classen expresses similar concerns and writes that “RNA-based COVID vaccines have the potential to cause more disease than the epidemic of COVID-19.”

For decades, Classen has published papers exploring how vaccination can give rise to chronic conditions such as Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes — not right away, but three or four years down the road.

In this latest paper, Classen warns that the RNA-based vaccine technology could create “new potential mechanisms” of vaccine adverse events that may take years to come to light.

Classen’s study establishes the potential for the messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines developed by Pfizer and Moderna to activate human proteins to take on “pathologic configurations” — configurations associated with chronic degenerative neurological diseases. Although his specific interest is in prion diseases (conditions associated with misfolded versions of normal proteins), Classen also outlines a handful of other mechanisms whereby RNA-based vaccines could give rise to “multiple other potential fatal adverse events.”

Navy Medic Killed at Fort Detrick After Wounding 2 Sailors in Maryland Shooting

The U.S. Navy said the suspect was a Navy Hospital corpsman; the public is “no longer at risk,” authorities said

A U.S. Navy medic shot and wounded two Navy sailors at a “military institution” in an office park in Frederick, Maryland, on Tuesday, and then fled to a nearby Army base, where he was fatally shot by base police, officials say.

Fantahun Girma Woldesenbet, a petty officer third class, was identified as the suspect, officials said in an update Tuesday afternoon. The 38-year-old was assigned to Fort Detrick and lived in Frederick.

One of the wounded sailors was in critical condition, police said; the other was treated and is expected to be released Wednesday.

An investigation into Woldesenbet’s possible motive is underway. Brigadier General Michael Talley said investigators are looking at whether the shooter knew the victims, but refused to speculate, saying, “We don’t want to compromise any aspect of the investigation.”

The shooting occurred Tuesday morning inside a military “overflow area” at Riverside Tech Park, in the 8400 block of Progress Drive, Talley said at a news conference…

Odds Are Increasing That Donald Trump Could be the Next Speaker of the House

There is increasing speculation in Washington, D.C., that former President Donald Trump may be planning to play a major role in the upcoming 2022 congressional midterm elections, with a potential payoff that would greatly impact the future of President Biden’s term in office.

If Trump is successful in helping the Republican Party gain back a majority in the House, something that is likely given the GOP’s shockingly strong performance in the 2020 election cycle, a new Republican majority in the House could install Trump as Speaker of the House.

Though Trump would not be an elected representative himself, House rules allow for the majority to select someone from the outside to serve in the position. Ed Martin, who serves as president of the conservative group Phyllis Schlafly Eagles, said his group is the latest to join such an effort.

Vaccines Are the New ‘Purity Test’

Story at-a-glance:

  • The Biden Administration is seriously looking into establishing a vaccine passport system that will allow unvaccinated individuals to be legally treated as second-class citizens
  • In Israel, vaccine certificates are already required for entry into many public spaces. Activists warn it’s become a two-tiered society where the unvaccinated are ostracized
  • The public narrative is not only building prejudice against people who refuse to wear masks or get an experimental vaccine, but is also using healthy people as scapegoats from the very beginning, blaming the spread of the virus on asymptomatically infected people
  • With the rollout of vaccine certificates, we are stepping firmly into discrimination territory. The last step will entail persecution of non-vaccinated individuals. At that point, we will have replicated the Nazi regime’s four-step process of dehumanizing the Jews, which ultimately allowed the genocide to occur
  • Vaccine passports are about creating justification for segregation, discrimination and elimination of certain groups of people, in this case, people who don’t want to be part of the experimental vaccine program, which identifies them as noncompliant with top-down edicts

WaPo: Using the Term “Cancel Culture” Is Cultural Appropriation

The term “cancel culture” has been slowly but surely acquiring a negative connotation, even among those who in reality promote and execute it. This is evident when individuals or companies canceling somebody are at the same time quick to disassociate themselves from the phrase itself.

The Washington Post appears to be aware of this shift as well, and has now mounted a curious defense of the phrase by accusing conservatives and people who use it to describe something that’s negative “culturally appropriating” the term from African Americans — only to be making it less and less appealing with every passing day.

Windows 95 — How Does it Look Today?

I was not going to make a review of Windows 95, it was actually not so many years ago. But once I saw the video, something like “Teens react to Windows 95”, and it’s become clear that there are already not only teens but a whole new generation of 20-30 years old adults who never used Windows 95 in their life or were too young to actually remember it. ‘Zero Support’: Cops Slam City Council, Leadership as They Quit Portland Police Dept. En Masse

Dozens of people were killed last year, many injured, and hundreds of arrests made in the United States following acts of vandalism, looting, arson, and irreparable damage to local businesses in protests that started as peaceful demonstrations, which put a considerable strain on law enforcement.

Dozens of police officers in Portland, Oregon left negative comments in their statements as they left the police department for other agencies and departments or retiring, The Oregonian revealed.

The city’s main newspaper reviewed 31 exit interview statements it obtained through a public records request, noting that about a quarter of those who left in the last year chose to fill in the voluntary interview form and that nearly all of them were dissatisfied with the bureau’s ability to respond to problems and said they would’’t recommend their jobs to family or friends.

Some of the officers who turned in their badges said their heavy workload drove them out, and others felt their efforts to solve crimes or protect the public were in vain.

Slanderous New Yorker Article is Part of an Undeclared War Against Poland, Says Influential Conservative Writer and Commentator

In a recent article for The New Yorker magazine, it was claimed that the Polish government is conducting “an effort to exonerate Poland of any role in the deaths of three million Jews in Poland during Nazi occupation.”

Polish writer and conservative commentator Rafal Ziemkiewicz, cited by Dotrzeczy.pl, claimed that the article in the magazine was not an accident and was an element of an undeclared war against Poland. The goal of this war is the fulfillment of property claims concerning heirless Jewish property.

He reminded that The New Yorker prided itself on the supposed best fact-checking system in the world, and it would be naïve to believe that this system had failed in the case of this article.

Yesterday, the government indicated that vaccine passports will “likely become a feature of our lives” and that people would have to prove they’ve had the vaccination or a negative COVID test in order to attend events and access basic services.

Although Prime Minister Boris Johnson asserted that pubs and restaurants would not require the passports, Minister for Covid Vaccine Deployment Nadhim Zahawi later suggested that this might be the case in future.

FSB Foils ISIS Terrorist Plot

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) foiled a terrorist plot involving four men, all of whom are followers of the Islamic State, in the Stavropol region of Russia, news agency TASS reported.

“The Federal Security Service, the Investigative Committee and the Interior Ministry, have thwarted a terrorist attack in the Stavropol region. CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing creates massive DNA damage in living organisms and they still want to use it to get rid of Covid!

New research from Chinese scientists shows that CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing causes massive damage to the genome, much of which would have been missed by the analytical tools used so far.

The outcomes or genetic errors ranged from unintended small insertions or deletions (indels) to large deletions, plasmid (gene-editing tool delivery vehicle) integrations, and chromosomal translocations.

Worryingly, these unintended deleterious outcomes of gene editing were not overcome even when a high-fidelity CRISPR/Cas tool was used. Furthermore, when components of the DNA repair machinery were inhibited in an attempt to force a specific gene sequence modification outcome (known as SDN-2), this resulted in large deletions, large insertions, and DNA cuts around the start site of genes.

These new findings highlight just how little control the gene editor has over the DNA repair processes and its outcomes, following the formation of the DSB by the CRISPR/Cas gene-editing tool.

The implications of the new research are clear. All analyses of gene-edited plants done thus far need to be re-evaluated to get a more complete picture of the DNA damage arising from gene editing.

Tulum, Q.R. — The first full weekend of the Easter holiday season has kept Tulum officials busy with inspections, some of which, have lead to closures. France: Muslim Migrant Who Was Ordered to Leave the Country Two Years Ago Attacks Three Jews With a Knife

Celebrate diversity! Only “racists” and “Islamophobes” could possibly object to this.

The Jews in the Qur’an are called the strongest of all people in enmity toward the Muslims (5:82); they fabricate things and falsely ascribe them to Allah (2:79; 3:75, 3:181); they claim that Allah’s power is limited (5:64); they love to listen to lies (5:41); they disobey Allah and never observe his commands (5:13). They are disputing and quarreling (2:247); hiding the truth and misleading people (3:78); staging rebellion against the prophets and rejecting their guidance (2:55); being hypocritical (2:14, 2:44); giving preference to their own interests over the teachings of Muhammad (2:87); wishing evil for people and trying to mislead them (2:109); feeling pain when others are happy or fortunate (3:120); being arrogant about their being Allah’s beloved people (5:18); devouring people’s wealth by subterfuge (4:161); slandering the true religion and being cursed by Allah (4:46); killing the prophets (2:61); being merciless and heartless (2:74); never keeping their promises or fulfilling their words (2:100); being unrestrained in committing sins (5:79); being cowardly (59:13-14); being miserly (4:53); being transformed into apes and pigs for breaking the Sabbath (2:63-65; 5:59-60; 7:166); and more. They are under Allah’s curse (9:30), and Muslims should wage war against them and subjugate them under Islamic hegemony (9:29).

Greece Accuses Turkey of Pushing Migrants Into Greek Territorial Waters

The Greek Coast Guard had to deal with several incidents with Turkish vessels near the island of Lesbos on Friday. According to Greek officials, Turkish ships performed dangerous maneuvers and tried to push boats with migrants into the Greek territorial waters. Greek Migration Minister Notis Mitarakis called it an “unjustified provocation”, while the Turkish side has not yet given comment.

The Greek Coast Guard said that six boats with about 300 migrants were trying to reach the island of Lesbos from Turkey on Friday morning. There were also six Turkish patrol boats in the area, which did not prevent migrants from sailing in any way, but instead accompanied them to Greek waters or tried to push them into them, Kathimerini wrote.
