Nothing Gets Between Me And My Candy Crush

I have to admit that I had never heard of Candy Crush before I read these two news stories from Germany. And even if I had, I would have had no idea how the game was connected to the Wuhan Coronavirus and Bodo Ramelow.

Many thanks to Hellequin GB for broadening my knowledge base by translating these two articles. First, from PolitikStube:

You couldn’t be more disinterested: Ramelow plays Candy Crush on his cell phone during the Corona summit

Bodo Ramelow [Minister President of Thuringia], is gradually developing into the most embarrassing premier; he really doesn’t omit any faux pas.

“Insh’allah” — Bodo is not only noticeable because of his bad behavior in parliament by giving the finger to AfD MP Stefan Möller and insulting him with strong words, now the arch-communist played “Candy Crush” on his mobile phone, and during the ministerial conference proudly reports that he can manage up to ten levels.

In addition, Ramelow described the Chancellor as Merkelchen in full appreciation, so much familiarity, well… Bodo was lifted to the post of sovereign by the grace of “Merkelchen”.

More arrogance is hardly possible, while many citizens are fighting for their livelihoods because of the Corona measures, certain politicians are losing more and more ground, because Ramelow is really not the only one who taps on the cell phone during a conference or speeches in the Bundestag.

From Epoch Times:

Thuringia’s Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left) has come under massive criticism for his latest statements on cell phone games during the Corona online conference. On Friday evening, the state politician openly announced in a discussion on the Clubhouse social media app that he would manage “up to ten levels” of Candy Crush in the hours of corona summit calls between state leaders and the Chancellor.

Candy Crush is a popular puzzle game that is widely played on smartphones.

“Some play Sudoku, others play chess or Scrabble on their cell phones, and I play ‘Candy Crush’”, the Bild newspaper quoted Ramelow as saying. He told the German Press Agency that playing was a relaxation method for him — and not a secret either.

Ramelow: “I tried it — and it was great”

In addition to numerous other participants, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) and Bild Vice Editor-in-Chief Paul Ronzheimer are said to have taken part in the live talk at Clubhouse. This is said to have asked Ramelow the crucial question.

Schwesig is said to have tried to change the subject, reports Der Spiegel.

According to Der Spiegel, the app made him curious. “I’ve tried it. And it was great.” Ramelow is quoted as saying that he doesn’t regret the evening. “But I was immediately shown the limits.”

Recording and transcribing conversations during the live talks with the Clubhouse app is prohibited according to the general terms and conditions of the app. Welt am Sonntag editor-in-chief Johannes Boie is said to be the first to report on Ramelow’s statements in a comment, writes the Bild-Zeitung. He appealed to the public interest and was therefore not bound by the user rules.

The fact that the Thuringian head of government played an online puzzle during a corona summit, which was about the lockdown extension, caused fierce criticism nationwide.

Thuringia’s CDU boss: Ramelow’s behavior disrespectful and irresponsible

Fighting a pandemic is literally a matter of life and death, millions of livelihoods and the future of an entire generation of students. This is disrespectful and irresponsible, Thuringia’s CDU boss Christian Hirte criticizes the Prime Minister.

The effects of the lockdown would particularly affect families with school-age children. Teachers’ association boss Hans-Peter Meidiger therefore fails to understand it. “At home, parents fight to ensure that children learn on the computer and not play games. And Mr. Ramelow does the opposite: Instead of engaging in politics for the interests of the children, he has fun with mobile phone games,” Meidiger told the Bild-Zeitung.

Ingrid Hartges (61), head of the Hotel and Restaurant Association, expects all participants in these rounds to put maximum effort into the struggle for the best solutions for combating pandemics. Tens of thousands of livelihoods and hundreds of thousands of jobs are at stake. “Candy Crush” gaming has no business being there, explained the restaurateur.
