Bank of Canada Expects Economy to Shrink Due to COVID-19 Lockdowns

The Bank of Canada is leaving its key benchmark interest rate unchanged at 0.25 per while predicting an economic contraction in the first quarter as further COVID-19 restrictions take their toll.

“Canada’s economy had strong momentum through to late 2020, but the resurgence of cases and the reintroduction of lockdown measures are a serious setback,” said the Bank in a release.

Growth in the first quarter of 2021 is now expected to be negative. But it does expect a strong rebound in the second quarter, assuming restrictions get lifted.

“Consumption is forecast to gain strength as parts of the economy reopen and confidence improves, and exports and business investment will be buoyed by rising foreign demand,” the Bank said.

“Beyond the near term, the outlook for Canada is now stronger and more secure than in the October projection, thanks to earlier-than-expected availability of vaccines and significant ongoing policy stimulus.”

Overall it predicts the economy will grow 4 per cent in 2021, following a 5.5 per cent decline in 2020. It sees further acceleration of 5 per cent growth in 2022, before slower growth of around 2.5 per cent in 2023.

[Comment: I expect economic growth for the Canadian economy in 2021 will be lower than 4 percent.]

French Economy Contracted 4% in Q4 2020 — Bank of France

The French economy is seen contracting 4% in the fourth quarter of 2020 despite the lifting of the coronavirus lockdown, the latest estimates from the Bank of France showed on Wednesday.

Key points

“Central bank sticks with a previous estimate that the Eurozone’s second-biggest economy shrank 9% over the course of last year.”

“Estimates economy in January operating down 7% from pre-crisis levels, unchanged from December.”

Germany’s Economy Contracted by 5% in 2020 as Coronavirus Lockdowns Hit Growth

Germany’s economy contracted by 5% in 2020, according to full-year GDP (gross domestic product) data released on Thursday.

The preliminary figures, which were slightly better than the 5.1% forecast, come after a year of economic turbulence for Germany, and the rest of the world, as the coronavirus pandemic prompted disruption to businesses and large swathes of the economy.

Ireland: Lockdown Restrictions Cast Shadow Over Economic Outlook

The Irish economy begins 2021 in a precarious position. Record coronavirus infections and a return to a full-scale lockdown clouds the outlook and limits the chances of a speedy recovery.

Everything seems to hang on the vaccine rollout, but that could takes many months, and the initial evidence suggests Ireland is off to a slow start in comparison to other countries.

It’s also not clear what percentage of the population needs to be vaccinated to prevent further outbreaks.

At the same time Government controls to curtail rising infection rates have left us with an unemployment rate of more than 20 per cent, which equates to over 500,000 people. This is worse than anything seen in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis.

[Comment: Wow, 20 percent unemployment.]

Recession in Poland One of the Shallowest in Europe — MinFin

The Polish economy will have one of the “shallowest” recessions in Europe, the finance minister has claimed.

In an interview for PAP, Tadeusz Koscinski said that the relative strength of the public exchequer has helped the economy, and that Poland will soon get access to new EU funding.

“Despite significant support for the economy, public finances are in relatively good shape, and our recession will be one of the shallowest in Europe,” said the minister.

According to the European Commission, the economies of the EU members will shrink, on average, by —7.4 percent, which is almost twice as much as in Poland, where it is expected to fall by —3.6 percent.

Spain’s GDP Contraction Likely Wider Than 10%, PM Says

MADRID, Dec 29 (Reuters) — Spain’s gross domestic product has likely to contract by more than 10% this year as a consequence of the coronavirus pandemic and the restrictions imposed on economic activity to curb it, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said on Tuesday.

“We are now 10% poorer than a year ago,” he told a news conference. The government has previously forecast an 11.2% contraction for this year.

Switzerland’s Economy Forecast to Recover ‘From Summer Onwards’

In November 2020, Switzerland’s Federal Statistical Office indicated a downward trend for 2021.

But economist Eric Scheidegger predicts a strong boom for this year, even though some sectors of the economy are still suffering the consequences of the health crisis.

“We expect a strong recovery from the summer onwards”, Scheidegger, who is head of the Economic Policy at State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), told NZZ newspaper on Sunday.

“Switzerland could achieve growth of around 4 percent in both 2021 and 2022”, he added.

Even though Switzerland lost about 72 billion francs during the pandemic, the country still fared better than its neighbours, Scheidegger pointed out.

Swiss economy dwindled 3 percent in 2020, while Germany and Austria shrunk by 6 percent, and France and Italy by 9 percent.

UK: Firms Planned Record 800,000 Redundancies Last Year

British employers made plans to cut 795,000 jobs last year, a record number, as Covid lockdowns took their toll on the economy.

More than 10,000 firms planned job cuts, however the pace of planned cuts slowed at the end of the year.

Without the government’s furlough scheme, designed to protect jobs, the numbers might have been higher still.

The figures were obtained in response to a BBC Freedom of Information request to the Insolvency Service.

Employers must notify the Insolvency Service when they plan to cut 20 or more jobs, giving an earlier indication of changes in the labour market than waiting for official joblessness statistics.

16-Time Felon Charged With Home Invasion in Chicago

A 16-time convicted felon was charged with home invasion in Chicago, Illinois, this week.

Roosevelt Allen, 52, who was on parole for 3 other burglaries, is accused of breaking into a high-rise apartment around 6:40 a.m. on Wednesday.

Judge David Navarro ordered that Allen be held without bail.

“You have demonstrated yourself to be a clear and continuing danger to the safety of every member of the community,” Navarro told Allen during a bond hearing on Thursday.

Allen, who first went to prison during Ronald Reagan’s presidency, has been in and out of prison 16 times:

  • 10 times for burglaries
  • 4 times for theft
  • 1 time for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon

He also previously faced attempted murder charges for shooting at Chicago police officers.

Another Teachers Union Refuses to Return to Work

Some long-awaited good news for the residents of Virginia came out this week. Governor Ralph “blackface klansman” Northam announced that schools could be safely reopened in the next few weeks. With online “distance learning” turning out to be largely a miserable failure and parents scrambling to find new daycare options, many were breathing a sigh of relief, thinking there was finally a light at the end of the tunnel that wouldn’t turn out to be an oncoming train. Unfortunately, the celebrations didn’t last very long. Not long after the Governor’s announcement, a Virginia teachers union came out and told everyone to stuff it. They’re not going back to work unless their demands are met. This is looking increasingly like a hostage negotiation where the children are the hostages. (Free Beacon)

Are Big Tech and Big Government Overplaying Their Hand?

Those casual enemies of free speech who today dominate the tech landscape have a much weaker hand than they think.

By Dan Gelernter

Historian Paul Johnson wrote that the second most important factor in the formation of America’s political character, after religion, was respect for the rule of law: “The law was not just necessary—essential to any civil society—it was noble.”

Americans might wonder how this squares with the recent storming of Capitol Hill. The media and social media and our elected leaders are all telling us one thing (in many cases word-for-word), and yet our gut may tell us something else. We have been told that an insurrection was put down—a coup narrowly avoided. Three cheers for the triumph of the law!

It doesn’t feel that way, though. Many Americans can put themselves in the shoes of the Capitol Hill protesters, with an important caveat: We have no truck with the window-smashers and Bison Man—who went on a food strike in jail for an organic diet. (Now there’s a typical Trump supporter for you.)…

Intelligence Agencies Bypass the Need for Warrants by Buying Data Harvested From Smartphones

In what could turn out to be just the tip of the iceberg, a freely available memo explains how a US military intelligence outfit, Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), buys user data collected by commercial data harvesting companies, without the need to first produce a warrant.

The purchases in question concern location data collected by apps installed on people’s phones, and then sold to data brokers, that Senator Ron Wyden — to whom the memo was addressed — describes as “sleazy and unregulated” companies that are “simply above the law.”

“The Fourth Amendment is not for sale,” he said, referring to legal protections from unreasonable searches by the government.

But as things stand, DIA is not breaking any law, at least not the letter of any law: A 2018 decision by the Supreme Court says that under the US Constitution, government agencies must have a warrant in order to force phone operators to had them location data collected from customers.

But there is nothing stopping them from buying that data contained in commercial databases.

It’s John Brennan’s Authoritarianism That Threatens ‘Democracy’

Brennan was back on MSNBC yesterday, contending that American intelligence agencies “are moving in laser-like fashion to try to uncover as much as they can about” the pro-Trump “insurgency” that harbors “religious extremists, authoritarians, fascists, bigots, racists, nativists, even libertarians.”

Even a former Communist such as Brennan surely understands that there is nothing prohibiting Americans from being religious extremists, fascists, bigots, racists, nativists or even libertarians. It’s definitely none of his business, or that of intelligence agencies, to define what those terms mean. (And the idea that libertarians, who can’t get a minyan to agree on anything libertarian, are marshaling forces for a national insurgency is nonsensical.)

As Brennan is a congenital liar, this may well be another one of his convenient fictions. Yet, considering his history of abusing power — Samantha Power, no lightweight on this front herself, once warned that it wasn’t a “good idea to p — s off John Brennan” — we shouldn’t entirely dismiss the idea that his allies are ferreting out thoughtcrimes.

Jan. 20, 2021: A Crime Against the American People

Concerning Yuval Noah Harari’s NEW YORK TIMES article, “When the World Seems Like One Big Conspiracy” (11/20/20), he believes that global cabal theories, such as Nazism, are inherently false. The main problem with his contention is that he uses the past tense when describing it, and he fails to realize the secret Nazi plan is coming to fulfillment today (see my 2010 book, THE POWER ELITE AND THE SECRET NAZI PLAN). Another global cabal conspiracy he dismisses is that the Bush and Clinton families are secretly working together. Again, he is unaware that members of Skull & Bones have worked with Cecil Rhodes’ secret Society of the Elect members for over 100 years. One example was in the late 1980s when President George W. Bush could have easily appointed a Republican governor to head his education reform effort, but instead chose Bill Clinton, a Democrat governor of a small Southern state, Arkansas, to lead that effort. Remember that Bill Clinton was a Rhodes scholar, and Cecil Rhodes said his secret society’s purpose was to “take the government of the whole world.”

Harari also dismisses the idea that professors, journalists and politicians try to conceal the existence of a global conspiracy. Apparently he is unaware that the editorial page editor of The New York Times through all of the 1860s, John Swinton, delivered a speech to journalists at the Twilight Club in New York City on April 12, 1883, in which he revealed: “The business of the New York journalist is to destroy the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of Mammon. You know this and I know it…We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping-jacks; they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes.”

For example, let’s look at the New York Times in the critically important decade of the 1950s when Communism was on the rise. The New York Times reporter covering the Soviet Union in the 1930s was well aware of dictator Stalin’s slaughter of massive numbers of Russians, but kept this out of the press. By the 1950s, if anyone had accused the New York Times of slanting news in favor of the Communists, they would have been branded as an idiot. However, in 1969 the foreign editor of the New York Times during the decade of the 1950s, Herman Dinsmore, wrote ALL THE NEWS THAT FITS, in which he revealed: “Positively and negatively, the weight of The New York Times has generally fallen on the side of the Communists since the end of World War II.”

U.S. Doctor: Manipulating Bat-Based Coronaviruses Easy

A U.S. doctor who is part of the World Health Organization team investigating the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic discussed his work manipulating bat-based coronaviruses in labs just weeks before the COVID-19 outbreak in Wuhan.

Dr. Peter Daszak, a close associate with China’s premier bat-based coronavirus researcher and a key figure in directing taxpayer funds to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, explained how easy it was to alter coronaviruses during a podcast interview filmed Dec. 9, 2019.

“You can manipulate them in the lab pretty easily,” Daszak said. “Spike protein drives a lot of what happens with the coronavirus. Zoonotic risk. So you can get the sequence, you can build the protein — and we work with Ralph Baric at UNC to do this — and insert the backbone of another virus and do some work in the lab.”

It’s unclear where the coronavirus manipulation Daszak described in the podcast, also known as gain of function research, was conducted. Daszak did not return multiple requests for comment.

Daszak said that manipulating coronaviruses in labs is a useful tool in developing treatments and vaccines for potential future outbreaks, but some virologists say such research is playing with fire.

“The only impact of this work is the creation, in a lab, of a new, non-natural risk,” Rutgers University molecular biologist Richard Ebright told New York magazine.

After MP Hanzel, who was chairing the session, turned off the microphone, Volný came to speak directly with Hanzel, who then tried to push Volný away, prompting other Social Democratic deputies to come aid him against Volny. Among the first to render aid were Jan Chvojka and Ondrej Veselý. After the physical alteration, Volný left the area accompanied by the police protection service.

Senior MP: British Public Will “Rise Up and Bring Down” Lockdown if Exit Plan Isn’t Outlined

Authored by Steve Watson via Summit News

British MPs within his own party are demanding that Prime Minister Boris Johnson outline some sort of exit strategy for the nationwide lockdown in the country, with one senior minister warning that if he doesn’t people will begin to “rise up and bring it down”.

Speaking to Talk Radio, Sir Desmond Swayne, the MP for New Forest West, warned that the “goalposts keep moving” on the lockdown timeframe, and “We have to focus on hospital admissions and keep that focus rigorous…[or] at some stage people have got to rise up and bring it down.”

“People have to got to rise up and bring it down!”

Tory MP Sir Desmond Swayne says the idea people will accept endless lockdown restrictions and “go on living like troglodytes is absurd.”

Swayne’s comments echo those of West Midlands Police commissioner David Jamieson, who warned back in October at the start of the second lockdown that “We’re sitting on a time bomb here.”

“We’re getting very near the stage where you could see a considerable explosion of frustration and energy,” Jamieson noted, adding “Things are very on the edge in a lot of communities and it wouldn’t take very much to spark off unrest, riots, damage.”

Soaring Taxes on Their Way to Pay for Britain’s Mammoth Corona Debt

Britain’s chancellor wants to “wean us off the magic money tree” after nearly a year of unprecedented spending in response to the coronavirus lockdown, a policy which saw government borrowing rise by a near-record £34 billion in December alone.

Rishi Sunak, the Chancellor of the Exchequer in the United Kingdom, has opened the taps of public spending since the government started shutting down the economy last year. The Conservative party MP is expected to want to start paying for it in the forthcoming March budget statement with new taxes.

“Unlike you, Colonel, and so many others, Mila will never submit”, wrote the French teenager’s father to her school’s principal in a letter published by Le Point. On January 18, 2020 Mila O., then 16 years old, made insulting comments about Islam during her Instagram livestream.

“During her livestream, a Muslim boy asked her out in the comments, but she turned him down because she is gay. He responded by accusing her of racism and calling her a ‘dirty lesbian’. In an angry follow-up video, streamed immediately after she was insulted, Mila responded by saying that she ‘hates religion’“.

Mila continued: “The Koran is a religion of hatred; there is only hatred in it… Islam is sh*t…” Since then, she has received approximately 50,000 messages and lettersthat contain threats to rape her, slit her throat, torture and behead her. She has had to keep moving from one school to another.

The number of illegal migrants who entered the European Union dropped by 13 percent this year, the lowest yearly figure seen since 2013, something that likely occurred as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the travel restrictions put in place by national governments.

According to figures released from the European Union’s border protection agency Frontex, 124,000 illegal migrants managed to make their way into the bloc in 2020, with illegal crossings at land borders dropping considerably and arrivals at seaports skyrocketing.

  2. Sweden deporting Estonian for nonconformity
    https://swedinfo.ru/novosti-stokgolma/3523-shvetsiya-deportiruet-estontsa-za-inakomyslie

The 20-year-old has been living in Sweden since the age of eight, when his family moved to the kingdom from Estonia. Now the Swedish Migration Board wants to deport him back to Estonia and ban him from re-entering on the grounds that he is a “right-wing extremist”. And without any evidence.

Sweden has tried for years to deport Islamists who pose a threat to national security. But they could not be expelled from the country because of the court’s decision, which stated that the Islamists “risk being subjected to torture and persecution in their homeland.”

To show any efficiency in their work, the Swedish State Security Police (SEPO) are now trying to expel a 20-year-old Estonian who grew up in Sweden because he was once a member of the Nordic Resistance Movement (NMR), an organization not banned in Sweden. which he left last summer.

This time, SEPO uses the provisions of the Aliens Law regarding the expulsion of EU citizens “for reasons of public order and safety.” The Swedish Migration Board decided that the 20-year-old will be banned from returning to Sweden for 15 years – despite the fact that his family has long settled in Sweden.

The 20-year-old is no longer politically active. “I am being expelled for political reasons. The rapists are allowed to stay in Sweden, but not the patriots, ”the young man says.

The security police do not share information with the accused for what reasons it was concluded that he is dangerous to Swedish society. This is due to the “personal integrity of the person to which this information concerns” and “the confidentiality of the methods and methods used by SEPO.”

“We were not allowed to take part in the presentation of any evidence and were not even given information about the evidence that influenced the decision to deport. Therefore, it is difficult for us to refute anything. And the Swedish Migration Office is satisfied with the groundless statements of SEPO without any ceremony, ”says the lawyer of the Estonian Fredrik Åkerblum.

Fredrik Åkerblum informs that they will appeal against the decision of the Migration Board.

  3. “Hank Aaron, one of the all-time greats of Major League Baseball, has died at the age of 87, 18 days after he was vaccinated against COVID-19. Meanwhile, the legendary CNN host Larry King also died at the age of 87. ”

Richard D. Hall from the Richplanet TV covered the incidend way back when governments bought millions of doses of the bird flu vaccine, ready to vaccinate vider public – but almost by an accident it was discovered the vaccine was not the vaccine but the live virus instead.

Richard D. Hall concluded back then, that it was an attempted genocide – planned via “bird-flu vaccination” programme.

    Just sayin…

  4. Larry King cannot very well have been vaccinated, because he fell ill with Covid-19 itself before the vaccine would have been available to him, and because persons who have been vaccinated virtually never contract a serious case of the virus.

He died because he did not get the vaccine, not because he did.
