The News From Spain

The two videos below show two recent incidents of cultural enrichment in Spain. Many thanks to FouseSquawk for the translations, and to Vlad Tepes and RAIR Foundation for the subtitling.

The first video is from Melilla, the Spanish enclave on the coast of North Africa that borders Morocco. It’s very similar to any number of others that have been posted here in the last few years. At this point we might just as well use footage from a stock video archive that shows screaming, shirtless, shoeless Africans jumping up and down and gesticulating after having successfully breached the border fence:

The second video is from Valencia. It shows the brutal mugging of an elderly woman by a culture-enricher. Readers who are sensitive to images of violence are advised to skip this clip:

Video transcript #1:

00:01   A massive jump-crossing at the fence at Melilla. Some 300 persons have tried to cross into Spain
00:05   in one of the largest attempts in the past months,
00:08   although only some 30 succeeded. One man died.
00:12   The event occurred in the early morning of Thursday.
00:15   The sub-Saharans were intercepted by security forces.
00:19   According to the government office in the autonomous border city with Morocco,
00:23   at least eight immigrants were injured with bruises and cuts during the crossing.
00:27   Three civil guards also suffered light injuries.
00:32   Last April, there was a similar attempt to jump the fence
00:35   by another 260 immigrants, and like this occasion,
00:39   only some 50 succeeded in entering.

Video transcript #2:

00:00   These images can be injurious to your sensibility.
00:04   A man sneaks into the doorway when an old lady enters.
00:09   He wants to rob the woman, and after a brief struggle,
00:16   he gives her a tremendous blow with his elbow
00:25   The old lady falls to the floor and loses consciousness.
00:29   It occurred in Valencia,
00:34   and the attacker has already been arrested.
