The Fundraiser That Wasn’t

This fundraising post was “sticky” for two weeks. Scroll down for lots of posts that were put up after it first appeared.

Update August 30 5:30pm EDT

I’m struggling with the new payments service, trying to find out how to make a form, or get a quick link, for a donation button. Until I manage to do that, snail mail is the only option. If you would like to make a postal donation, please email me at gatesofvienna {at} chromatism {dot} net, and I’ll send the address to you.

Since the last time I posted an update, more snail-mail donations have come in from the following places:

Stateside: Florida, Georgia, Illinois, New Hampshire, New York, Texas, West Virginia, and Washington

Canada: British Columbia

A big thank you to everyone who sent in their contributions. Your generosity is astonishing!

Email acknowledgements have gone out to most of the donors, and the rest will be sent shortly.

The Fundraiser That Wasn’t

Update August 25 8:00pm EDT

A week ago I thought this was going to be a normal quarterly fundraiser. I started it in the usual fashion, with an opening post on Monday for the fundraising “octave”. Then I woke up on Tuesday morning and discovered to my dismay that I’d been shut out of PayPal. After a conversation with the lady in the Terminations Department (as I think it was called), I was left in no doubt that I had been cancelled for my political opinions.

This eventuality was hardly unexpected; it’s not like I’m the first to be cancelled by PayPal. Over the past couple of years I watched the big guns go down one by one — Jihad Watch, Tommy Robinson, and numerous others. Since I’m just a tiny popgun in the “racist” scheme of things, my day of reckoning was delayed. But it had to come someday.

Hitting this speed bump made me decide to keep this post on top for a few extra days, to make sure that everyone gets a chance to see it. Newer stuff will continue to accumulate below it.

For the time being I’m fundraising by snail mail. Those who want to donate and don’t already have the address, please email me at gatesofvienna {at} chromatism {dot} net, and I’ll send it to you.

So far the results have been encouraging — a fair number of envelopes have arrived in the mail. I’ve already started writing the thank-you notes. I really appreciate your willingness to pitch in. And at least five people who have never donated in the past were affronted by what PayPal did, and wrote to ask for the address.

Even so, there’s no doubt that PayPal’s heinous actions will reduce the amount I can successfully raise. Not everyone will be willing to send money by regular mail, and the logistics for overseas gifts will be tricky.

The big question is whether the reduction will be significant enough to threaten the continuation of this site. Everything should proceed as normal for at least another quarter — I have enough savings to cover that.

In the meantime, I’m determined to find a substitute for PayPal. I’m in the throes of attempting to set up an account with a new service, but the interminable process of account verification is still incomplete. So keep your fingers crossed, or send up a smoke signal to the fire god, or say a novena for me — I need all the help I can get.

The fundraiser was supposed to have been complete by now. At this point it should have been all wrapped up, and I would just be busily writing thank-you notes.

With that in mind I had invited the future Baron and another relative to come and visit me. I’ve managed to create two guest bedrooms here in Schloss Bodissey, one in the sunroom and the other in the future Baron’s former bedroom. Just single beds, unfortunately, so if a married couple come to visit, they will have to live apart while they’re here. But at least I’ve got enough room.

That’s why posting has been light. My guests left this afternoon, and now I’m catching up on all the backlog. I’ve got some new material that will be posted later in the evening.

One final note, to the anonymous donor in California who left no return address: Thank you for your generosity; you know who you are. In your brief note you said, “Sorry to be late,” but you weren’t late at all! So no worries in that regard.

To date, the donations (including the few that PayPal permitted before they shut me down) have arrived from:

Stateside: Arizona, California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin

Far Abroad: Brazil, Germany, Indonesia, and the UK

Canada: Ontario and Saskatchewan

Australia: Victoria

UPDATE August 23 9:15pm EDT:

I’m working on a new account with yet another payments service. This one seems very similar to PayPal. I’m still in the midst of the lengthy rigmarole required for account verification. I don’t know how much longer this will take.

In the meantime, for anyone who wants to donate by snail mail, email me at gatesofvienna {at} chromatism {dot} net, and I’ll send you the address.

Thanks to everyone who has sent snail-mail gifts. I’ll be sending out thank-you notes for those that have arrived so far.

UPDATE August 21 8:15pm EDT:

I thought I had a viable alternative to PayPal — the service I was working with all afternoon today seemed just what I needed. However, after going through the process of setting up my account details, I read the entire “terms of service” page (which took a while). Because I would be taking credit card transactions directly, I would have to follow certain procedures to assure that customer data would be protected.

Among the requirements would be an annual audit. After looking at the details of how that would be accomplished, I realized that I couldn’t possibly do it — it would require a level of expertise in web development that I simply don’t have. It’s obvious that the service is designed for larger companies that either have an IT staff or can afford to contract with an outside firm to do the job. I can’t manage either of those — this blog is now a one-man show with a minuscule budget.

So it’s back to square one.

I have a couple of other alternatives to check before I give up completely. I’ll look into the next one later tonight, or in the morning.

UPDATE August 19 6:40pm: I thought I was all set up with a new payments service, but alas, ’twas not to be. I received an email today saying that my account “does not fit our business model because it does not appear to be a verified non-profit and will not be accepted onto the platform.” In other words, I’m not an NGO.

So I will have to find some service that will accept just me, a sole proprietor who is also a deplorable right-wing extremist. I may have to use one of the services that porn and cannabis merchants use, but that will be expensive…

I’ll keep you posted.

UPDATE August 18 4:00pm:

I’m in the process of setting up an account with a different payments service; I’m waiting for my account to be verified. With luck I’ll soon have a new “donate” button.

UPDATE 4:20pm EDT

After waiting on hold for a while, I finally was able to have a phone chat with a woman who works in the “Terminations” office at PayPal. Their decision is final and irrevocable, and cannot be appealed. So PayPal is a spent scene.

I’ll continue with this week’s fundraiser, but not in the usual form.

As I said earlier, if you want to send your gift by snail mail, email me at gatesofvienna {at} chromatism {dot} net, and I’ll send you the address. In the meantime, I’ll be researching alternatives to PayPal.

I’ll leave this post on top for the rest of fundraising week. If anything new comes up, I’ll post further updates.

After I determined that there was no possibility of re-establishing my account, I had a brief discussion with the PayPal woman in an attempt to elicit more information about what they’re doing. She ducked and dodged, repeating herself a lot.

The gist of it was this: I am in “violation” of PayPal’s “terms of service”. That violation might cause “risk”. When I asked what kind of “risk” might be involved, she returned to the word “violation”, and once again mentioned “terms of service”, inviting me to read them.

Well. I’ve read PayPal’s terms of service before, and I’m not enough of a masochist to want to read them again.

Dymphna and I set up the PayPal account fourteen years ago. We have always used it for the same thing: to receive donations from readers. Nothing has changed. If I am in violation of their terms of service today, I was also in violation in 2019, 2018, etc., all the way back to 2006.

I told the lady as much, and she said that sometimes a long-standing violation just happens to be noticed during a review.

I remarked that, since the only use my account was put to was to receive donations, the content of my website would be the only possible reason that the account got flagged. In other words, PayPal considers the opinions of some customers to be a “risk”. I asked her if that was the case, and she responded with more hemming and hawing.

My final remark was that this could not possibly be a good business decision on PayPal’s part, since thousands of dollars had passed through my account over the past fourteen years, from which the company had always taken its generous cut. In other words, PayPal was more concerned with political correctness than it was with making money.

She had nothing significant to say in response to that, so I thanked her for her time, and ended the call.

Adios, PayPal!

It was only a matter of time, and it’s finally happened.

Evidently the arrival of donations in my account early this morning triggered some internal switch at PayPal, causing them to send me the following notice:

You can’t use PayPal anymore

At PayPal, we value a safe community for our customers to do business. We noticed activity in your account that’s inconsistent with our User Agreement and we no longer offer you PayPal services.

Any bank or credit card information linked to your PayPal account cannot be removed nor can it be used to create a new account. You can still log in and see your account information but you can’t send or receive money. Any money in your balance will be held for 180 days, after which we’ll send you an email with instructions about transferring your money.

I’ve always endeavored to keep a low profile, which probably postponed the inevitable for a while. More prominent people and sites have already been cancelled. Now, at last, the boot comes down on Gates of Vienna.

I’d only just started the quarterly fundraiser, and will continue with it, but my methodology will have to change. People who prefer not to use PayPal have already been sending me donations by snail mail. If you would like to do the same, send me a note at gatesofvienna {at} chromatism {dot} net, and I’ll send you the address to use.

This added layer of process is going to put a crimp in things, and it may even put me out of business — I’ll have to wait and see how many donors are willing to switch over to snail mail. I can keep going for a while, but if there ends up not being enough to get by on, I’ll have to arrange an orderly shutdown of the site.

And I’ll also try calling PayPal and wrangling with them, but I’m not optimistic about the outcome.

I’ll be sending thank-you notes out to the few donors who got through before the boot came down. I won’t be able to post a full list of donors’ locations until sometime next week, after everything has arrived in the mail.

And if PayPal has a change of heart (hah!) I’ll restore the donate button and let you know that business has returned to normal.

Lazy, Hazy, Crazy

Summer Fundraiser 2020, Day One

Yes, another quarter has gone by since the last time you heard my entreaties for financial support. It’s hard to believe, isn’t it? Time flies when you’re having fun!

Tip jarFor readers who are newcomers: Once every ninety days I spend a week begging for donations. This is the time-honored alternative to hosting ads at Gates of Vienna. Instead of those annoying JavaScript animations and flashing gifs, your browsing experience here is mercifully ad-free. The tradeoff is that I hector you once a quarter to contribute to the upkeep of the site.

In the last couple of years I’ve come to realize that our eschewing paid advertisements was a good idea, because advertisers are increasingly being mau-maued into boycotting sites that don’t adhere to Woke political theology. It makes me glad that Dymphna and I decided to go ad-free back in 2008, so I don’t have to worry about such eventualities.

The other primary revenue stream for deplorable websites like this one comes from non-profit foundations. However, he who pays the piper calls the tune: if you venture too close to the ideological border of the reservation, your benefactor yanks your chain, and then you have to fall back into line.

So I am very fortunate that I have to answer to no one but my readers. If you don’t like what you see here, you don’t send me any money, and I’m reduced to acting as a greeter at Walmart, or traipsing through roadside ditches scavenging aluminum cans for a living.

And if you do like what you see here, please make the tip cup on the sidebar clink, and donate a pittance to keep Gates of Vienna going for another three months.

I’m counting on y’all to do that this week.

*   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *

For those who are too young to remember — which probably includes the majority of readers — the title of this week’s bleg is a reference to the hit song by Nat King Cole that came out in the summer of 1963. I was not yet a teenager when it was playing on the radio, but I still remember it well:

We’ll get to lazy and hazy later, but I can’t remember a crazier summer than this one. I reached my majority in the crazy years of the late 1960s, but they weren’t anywhere near as crazy as 2020.

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, a dissident subset of the congregation at my church has defied Governor Ralph “Coonman” Northam and the bishop of our diocese by celebrating the Eucharist in a private home owned by one of our parishioners.

We met yesterday for communion and fellowship, and shared a meal afterwards at our host’s dining room table. The discussion over the meal kept returning to the insanity of the response to the Wuhan Coronavirus.

What distinguishes our little group is that we are not afraid. We all understand that being unafraid is not any virtue on our part, but simply a gift from God, and we are grateful for it. And a lot of people in the community are afraid, some of them very afraid. People who haven’t been outside their homes since the middle of March. It’s nuts.

One of the participants referred to our group as “rebels”. I took exception to that characterization, and reminded her that that the draconian response to the virus is almost entirely political. That makes us political dissidents. Attending a normal church service is an act of political dissidence.

And that’s just the craziness of COVID-19. The last time I held a fundraiser, the Coronamadness had only just passed its peak, and the BLM madness had not yet begun. Since then we’ve endured a whole quarter of BLM rioting, statue-toppling, police-defunding, and the cancellation of anyone who happens to disagree.

And there’s another crazy quarter to endure between now and the election.

Can it get any more insane than this? We’ll just have to wait and see.

That’s enough lunacy for this morning. I’ll be discussing more on these matters in tomorrow’s update. And I also hope to find an excerpt from one of Dymphna’s fundraiser posts. I’ve been neglecting the “Dymphna’s Greatest Hits” series for a few weeks, and that might make up for it.

In the meantime, please drop by the tip cup on the sidebar and engage in some Quantitative Easing for the sake of Gates of Vienna.

The tip jar in the text above is just for decoration. To donate, click the tin cup (or the donate button) on the sidebar of our main page. If you prefer a monthly subscription, click the “subscribe” button.

    • Subscribestar is an alternative
thanks to all the people who try to find a way to send money and help us and who offer an idea to help this site stay operational to keep us informed about the latest important news and most importantly about the truth snd nothing but the truth in this terrible, horrible lying phase of the darkest history of humanity

Did someone say “truth will set you free” ?

      Conclusion : lies bring perdition.

Someone said The First Casualty of War is Truth.

Hiding the truths about the true ill-natures of Caliphate Ordogan
will cause disaster in the Mediterranean

Lies of the west have turned Ordogan into an aggressive weasel .

      Watch the Mediterranean.

      • Thnks for the heads up. I don’t use paypal. If someone wishes to use them for donations or purchases I don’t do either.

    • Thank you. I have not heard of them, but will look into them. Number me among the people who detest Paypal.

  1. Bitcoin, ? By Using Wirexapp.com

If gov closes down, its a dreadful day for truth sanity and freedom.

Gov is a tiny candle light glowing in a huge ever darkening void,

Like a lighthouse at sea, a beacon of light, hope, and sanity.

Please dont close down gov, because the darkness will decend upon us all.
And the reptillians will be closer to the murder of us all.

  2. Use “Venmo” Baron, it’s a piece of cake to set up and it is all bank with no oversight. Hey, if I can set up an account, with a little help from my granddaughter, you can set one up as well. No one uses PayPal anymore, they are too expensive and way too political.

    • Venmo is PayPal.
If you are using Venmo then you are one of those people who think they have gotten free of PayPal because “no one uses”… it because “they are too expensive and way too political”.

    • Venmo is not an option for those GoV supporters who live outside the US. Also, you have to have a cell phone. Believe it or not, there are some people who don’t believe in telling the government where they are 24 hours a day.

  3. The news is so awful these days that I have to practically force myself to read it. However, I am still somewhat of an optimist so I will hope that we get over this nasty rough patch and come out into the sunshine again.

    Dear Baron,

Keep an eye on your mailbox!

  4. Snail mail is really not so much more of an effort. Of course there is always a bit of trepidation about security. Look at the post office for our small tribute.

  5. Dear Baron. I strongly suggest that you dont send your real world adress to anyone who contacts you per email. (even if he promises to give you donations) The chance that you then will get some “nice visitors” is not to be underestimated.

    • Get a PO Box.

And this may be easier said than done, but get a partner – to lighten the load and for succession purposes.

  6. This is awful, Baron, but unsurprising, given the progression of left-fascists.

I’ll send what I can in snail mail. It’ll take a few weeks to get to you because of my conditions at present, but it will come eventually.

Please don’t shut down and let them win. You’re needed more than ever.

I use Square to take payments directly by credit from some clients. They’d probably eventually do the same thing, but perhaps that could be a solution for a while for those not able/willing to send snail mail? Keep in mind that in the USA, mailing cheques is still common, but in many foreign countries, anything other than electronic payments is almost unheard of.

I also use TransferWise to collect amounts in Euros by hank transfer. Again, who knows how long before the left-fascists get to them, but perhaps it could also work.

This shows all the more why cash is highly important: without cash, people can be frozen out of existence like this.

Let’s all do what we can to help Baron stay afloat, people! This actually is our chance to make a real difference.

  7. Oh, snap! Well indeed it was foreseeable, sadly. Personally I have abandoned Paypal several years ago, now only ever come into contact with it as buyer in online auctions where the seller offers no other way.

Check out TransferWise. Failing which, I also only can come up with the various crypto options.

    • PS: It is always a mystery for us Europeans, why Americans have a problem with just giving their bank account details. Many seem to think money can be drawn from it without any further authorization when these are known, no idea what’s going on with that? If there is no real risk, it only remains that international wires often incur a prohitive fee on the receiver side, which is not much of an issue in Europe, either, so not all are aware of it. This case would be covered by TransferWise, and would not even require you subscribe to it, only the sender. You would receive a domestic transfer from their American branch.

      • People are also not set up to send payments that way easily. It’s basically cheques and credit cards, by default.

Wire transfers are sort-of an exotic thing, used for larger amounts. View it similarly to dealing with a foreign cheque in Germany (though maybe not quite as bad).

          • Hmm. Are there fees charged to the receiver of domestic transfers also, which would not be made transparent to the sender (i.e. give them a choice to cover it)? This would be a problem when using TransferWise also.

What many don’t realize, probably because they’re so used to it, is that card payments are subject to quite a hefty cut of up to 3% because of all the fraud going on in this field which the companies can’t always recover. It works like an extra tax and is only an advantage for small amounts because there is no flat or minimum fee.

Before the Swiss came under pressure to submit to foreign powers, they were the ultimate go-to place for your banking needs. I wonder if it’s still an option since none of your dealings are in any way illegitimate. Postfinance was especially known for catering to international clients. Maybe worth a try talking to them?
            https://www.postfinance.ch/en/private/products/accounts/personal-account-foreign-currency.html

  8. Could Western Union be used to transfer money to GoV? It would be a bank – to – bank payment.

    • Sorry .. should have added the qualifier that if WU have become ‘woke’ &/or are supporting BLM/Antifa then they are outside the pale and need to go ‘broke’.

  9. I could have told you this was coming. Paypal did the same thing to Robert Spencer at Jihad Watch, and that was some time ago. Even mastercard and visa are in on the act.

  10. Very interesting. I received an item of mail in my Junk Mail last week telling me that my Paypal account was under review because of possible “Irregularities.” I only use Paypal for my quarterly GoV contribution so I ignored the message as a likely phishing incident. I’ll be in touch to see the best way of making this and future contributions.

  11. Adios Paypal. Hello cryptocurrencies.

It’s time has come (and could be useful here at Gates of Vienna) but unfortunately most people don’t understand why it is becoming so important for the ordinary citizen to use it and drop the criminal banking cartel and become their own bank. It’s time to skip the middleman. And it’s easy to cash in for worthless fiat currency if one wants to. I even bought a property in Mexico with Bitcoin. Using Bitcoin or Monero doesn’t mean you are supporting a cashless society because that’s coming anyway whether one likes it or not. Banks are developing their own (centralized) crypto which you should never use. To stay ahead of the murdering monsters, the globalists taking power you NEED to understand and use crypto.

    • (Responding to myself) I am amazed at the comments here concerning ways to donate to Gates of Vienna. Everyone seems to be stuck in the Dark Ages as far as finances go.

PayPal is over. Get over it. Move on. Freedom is out there.

Banks are not your friends. When will people wake up.

You don’t need the banks or the credit cards for things like this!

I donate regularly to sites like the Corbett Report because they accept Bitcoin and other coins.

It’s incredibly simple to accept and to cash in to fiat currency. If people only knew. If people would wake up.

  12. Why don’t you use GoFundMe? You can speak in code on the GoFundMe page, and we your faithful readers will know exactly what you mean.

    • GoFundMe shuts down dissidents, too. I’m fortunate they allowed the GoFundMe set up for Dymphna’s funeral to operate. Fortunately, that only needed to be active for three or four days before the funeral was covered. God bless Gates of Vienna readers for their generosity!

  13. Very distressing news! I read your website faithfully first thing every morning. I like that I can post without using my full name. If Gates of Vienna did not exist, I would probably read Breitbart or Jihad Watch in the morning, but I like the personal touch of your website more than the others. It cheers me up and makes me feel like the world has not become completely atomized.

  14. When I heard of this I did a search of “PayPal conservative account cancelled” and found a August 2017 report from The Federalist which revealed the site Jihad Watch had been cancelled by PayPal BUT WAS RESTORED after a public outcry.
Perhaps this will help in garnering support for your (Gates of Vienna) website that has been targeted and discriminated against. The Jihad Watch example may be a lead to pursue in finding resolution in your case.
PayPal’s actions are outrageous and point to the growing abuse by the “woke” left. Your problem is in so many respects every Patriot’s problem. My best to you.

    • Jihad Watch eventually abandoned PayPal for good. I don’t know if PayPal forced them to or not.

In any case, it’s time to give up on PayPal. They’ve been cancelling a lot of “right-wing extremists” recently.

  15. Don’t let this defeat you, Baron. I’d expect that your readers will be up to the challenge and donate the old-fashioned way by mail or bank transfer. I hope you can find a workable solution.

I stopped using PayPal a few years ago when it banned Robert Spencer and also Tommy Robinson, I believe. But I gradually started using it again – using my credit card, without a PayPal account. It was just so darn easy – but there was a price for that. I won’t be doing that again. I’ll send a donation in the mail. These giant corporations that mix politics with business must be reined in.

  16. Boston T. Party used to take cash (“FRNs”) as payment for his books, just telling people to stick it in an envelope (with maybe a sheet of paper around it), via snail mail. Probably still does. He apparently never had any problem with it.

    http://javelinpress.com/order.html

    • For small amounts, cash in the mail is actually pretty good: the fees are quite low (i.e., the stamp), and although there’s a small chance that it’ll get lost, the hassle factor of recovering other forms of payment when lost means that effectively they’re not worth recovering for small amounts (I learnt that the hard way after trying to cancel a small money order that hadn’t been used once).

  17. Please, do consider offering a bitcoin donation address. It’s not difficult to buy bitcoin these days, it’s quite easy to exchange, and is relatively still “anonymous.” A quick internet search will give you , and anyone wanting to donate in bitcoin, all the information you need.

  18. Cancelled this household’s PayPal accounts. The knock-on effect to suppliers who have now lost our business is satisfying.
I hope some second level manager who called this move on GOV has some sleepless nights.

    • The reason why this is a business decision for firms like Paypal is that the opponent does the same thing, press them to deplatform that “Nazi” or else we will cancel all of our accounts. And they are more, many times over. It’s a numbers’ game.

  19. Your argument with the paypal lady reminded me of the german adjectiv ” kafkaesk” coined according to the caracters in Franz Kafka’s works, mostly “The Trial”, where a man gets arrested and trialed without ever learning why.
So ” kafkaesque” describes a situation of senslessness that you can not escape from.
I am sure that GoV will find a solution for the donation account. It once more goes to show how important the existence of cash money is, very much esteemed by my compatriotes. The powers that be can annihilate you by closing down bank or credit accounts. I just have that nightmare of my health insurance throwing me out for unpaid contributions…..

  20. Baron, First comes defunding then comes the WordPress erasure of all of your writings as they did to WRSA. Please try to be “One Step Ahead”.

    • WordPress can only shut sites down if they are on wordpress.com, which WRSA was. I’m on a domain that I own, using a copy of the WordPress software that I purchased. They can’t shut me down.

However, domain registration services have started cancelling domain URLs. I think that’s what happened to VDare, if I remember rightly. And some hosting services have become quite political, and have cancelled deplorables’ accounts. So those are possibilities I may have to face eventually.

      • Indeed. The ante seems to get upped time and again.

Vlad had problems of this type.

Safest is probably a country code TLD in a country where freedom still exists – they’d have a hard time cancelling that. But there are still enough registrars for .net (and the like) that are apolitical that this isn’t such an immediate concern.

  21. I sent my usual check by snail mail. I keep my PayPal account in case it proves convenient in some way to me, but I avoid using it as far as possible.
The paradox is that the mefa-corps like PayPal and Bank America no longer care about individual customers. They’re so large that any systematic withdrawal of business would take a trained statistician to even detect. Virtue signaling is far more important to them than keeping customers. Once in a while their CEOs get called in front of Congress, where their main objective is to lie and obfuscate just enough to avoid a perjury charge. Not that they have to worry. The Republicans grill them on withholding services from mainstream commenters, while the Democrats grill them on why dont they do more to deplatform hate speech. The dissident and race-and-culture realist sites, everyone agrees, should have no rights at all.

The paraddox is that these duopolies are in flagrant violation of anti-trust laws which are very clear that companies with a large share of the market cannot do anything to manipulate the market. Systematically shutting out an identifiable component of the market throufh an obvious conspiracy could be prosecuted by an intern clerk if anyone had the motivation to do so. Certainly not Trump or his nepotist senior advisors.

  22. First thing I thought of was Western Union.
But I don’t know how much the fee would be. That would be a drawback.
Alternatively what about setting up, I have no idea how this is done but…, where one enters the credit card data directly? I use online shops where there is no paypal and that is how it is done.

  23. I would have loved to contribute in the past but I have refused to use paypal for years. Post a snail mail address and I’ll send a check. Or get a merchant account from a (shudder) bank.

    • I had sent articles to the Gates of Vienna news feed about the lawsuit brought by the politically incorrect comedian Owen Benjamin and his supporters against Patreon.

  24. I may have to use one of the services that porn and cannabis merchants use,

Indeed, the porn industry has its uses.

Whomever they use for hosting is probably also fairly “resistant” to pressure.

  25. Transferwise.com

This is working good, to send money, they have good website, very low fees,

I use it a lt, highly reccomended, 50% cheaper than wu,

    Or bitcoin is better!!!

Now theres bitcoin atms everywhere, or retailers accepting bitcoin,

Theres online listings of retailers, travel agents, web hosting etc who accept bitcoin.

  26. Hello Baron,

please allow me to tell you about a lawyer you should hire.

His name is Tom Hagen and he is an, ah associate of Don Vito Corleone.
He has a success rate of 100% – directly or indirectly.

  27. Baron, check out PushPay. My church uses it. I apologize for recommending Venmo. I didn’t know that it was owned by PayPal.

  28. I’ve been using the Brave-Quant browser and search engine for the past few months because it has an ad blocker and it doesn’t track me. It also has a feature where I can donate their version of bit coins to sites I visit, but the site has to be registered with the company. So far I have been happy with the service but I have no idea how well it works at the receiving end. It might be worth a try.

    • That was the first one I tried. They turned me down, because I’m not a registered non-profit organization.

  29. Dear Baron,

Are you sure it’s a good idea for all and sundry to have your mailing address? OK, if not your home address, then no problem.

  30. I don’t know really anything about them but I thought about it and searched for an online tip jar. I wasn’t sure it even existed. I found one that conceptually seems like a fit. It looks like it has a widget for wordpress. Also they address how to get around youtube’s demonetization with a link to tipsmack in the video so maybe they aren’t so pc.

  31. “This eventuality was hardly unexpected; it’s not like I’m the first to be cancelled by PayPal. ” — But the timing was exquisite. I’m no longer willing to believe in accidents.

    • Yes, I looked at SubscribeStar. It’s more than just a payments service — you post your actual content to the platform. I don’t want to do that; I just need a standard money transfer service that I can make a donation widget for.

      I’m still working on it.

  32. Aye Baron, single beds aren’t so bad. Our first six months were spent on one. Definitely cozy. Makes the honeymoon last longer.

  33. QUOTE: Since I’m just a tiny popgun in the “racist” scheme of things

That’s the thing, you’re not. You’d be surprised how much influence this web site has, I think.

When I first started learning about the problem, many, many, many links ended up on GoV. Lots of information would have been missing otherwise.
