The European Central Bank has taken further dramatic measures try to boost the eurozone economies, amid their biggest recession since World War Two.

Just months after emergency measures, the central bank said it would increase the size of its bond buying programme by €600bn (£546bn) to €1.35tn.

The programme will run until June 2021, six months longer than planned.

The move will keep borrowing costs low for countries and firms as they face huge budget deficits and recessions.

[Updated] Alex Berenson Book Exposing Coronavirus Myths Censored by Amazon?

On Wednesday evening, former New York Times reporter and author Alex Berenson attempted to self-publish his book, Unreported Truths about COVID-19 and Lockdowns: Part 1: Introduction and Death Counts and Estimates, through Amazon’s self-publishing platform, Kindle Direct Publishing. On Thursday morning, he reported that he’d submitted it and was waiting for the book to go through Amazon’s approval process.

“Last night I submitted my first coronavirus facts booklet (“Unreported Truths about COVID-19 and Lockdowns”) for sale to @amazon,” he tweeted. “Normally the review/publishing process does not take long. Hopefully that will be the case this time and I won’t have to scream about censorship.”

That turned out to be wishful thinking. An hour after that tweet, Berenson reported that Amazon rejected his book. “Today @amazon refused to publish my booklet about the coronavirus because it ‘did not comply’ with their (undisclosed) guidelines,” he reported. “This is outrageous censorship from a company that has gained hugely from lockdowns — and dominates the US book market, especially with stores closed!”

[Comment: From what I understand, the book is now for sale at Amazon.]

One NYPD Officer Stabbed, Two Shot in Hand During Attack

NEW YORK, June 4 (Xinhua) — A New York City Police Department (NYPD) officer was stabbed and two other officers shot in Brooklyn borough late Wednesday night, and the authorities are investigating whether it’s a terrorism-incited attack, local media reported on Thursday.

The suspect, a 20-year-old man from Brooklyn, slashed an officer in the neck at around 11:45 p.m. (0345 GMT on Thursday) when two officers were patrolling in a police car as the city was in the third night of curfew.

Several officers responded to the scene and found the suspect had grabbed a gun from an officer. During a scuffle for the gun, two officers were shot in the hand. The suspect was eventually struck by a sergeant who arrived later.

It’s currently unclear whether the two officers were shot by the suspect or by friendly fire during the chaos.

The three injured officers were rushed to a nearby hospital and in stable condition, authorities said, while the suspect was in critical condition.

NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea called the incident “a complete cowardly, despicable, unprovoked attack on a defenseless police officer,” at a press conference early Thursday.

Local news channel ABC 7 reported that the NYPD and the FBI are working to determine whether the incident is linked to home-grown terrorism or another case of street violence that erupted in recent nights of protests over George Floyd’s death…

Twitter has accused the US president of making false claims, in one of the app’s own articles covering the news.

Twitter Says it’s Not “Fact-Checking” The President, It’s “Providing Context”

In a series of tweets, Twitter clarified new policies on misinformation and added more confusion to the matter. Twitter’s defense follows extensive criticism after editorializing the statements of The President of the United States which started last week.

Now, Twitter claims that its focus is not flagging all posts with misinformation, but those tweets with “the highest potential for harm.” Twitter referred to a survey from late last year that revealed that people believe that Twitter “should not determine the truthfulness of tweets” but instead “provide context to help people make up their own minds in cases where the substance of a tweet is disputed.”

The riots began in response to the death of George Floyd, a black man who died while being taken into custody by police officers in Minnesota last week.

The Tiananmen Square Massacre: From China’s Authoritarian Roots to the Iconic “Tank Man”

China is often described as the next superpower to top America within the next few decades. At first glance, such an assertion makes sense. The country’s vast geography, natural resources, rich history, and tech-savvy populace puts it in a position to thrive in the 21st century. However, China’s rise as a superpower is not one of an overnight success, nor is it filled with pretty rainbows. Indeed, China is one of the world’s longest lasting civilizations, with cultural and political traditions that have been passed down to succeeding generations effortlessly. With such a vast history, China had gone through its own zeniths and nadirs. As is the nature of any civilization. However, China’s modern history has been a rollercoaster ride to say the least. Despite having a massive formal governing apparatus that would put many empires to shame, China has not always had full control of its territorial jurisdiction. Once European powers reached Chinese shores in search of riches, they soon wanted their piece of pie. That meant slowly whittling away at Chinese territory. As the first movers in the Age of Exploration, the Portuguese and their missionaries colonized Macau. Although the Portuguese’s venture was not exclusively about riches, it inspired other European actors such as the British to go and exploit China’s vast resources. Naturally, the Qing dynasty and Britain’s interests clashed once the British wanted to expand trade inside the country. What was originally a trade dispute between a Qing government wanting to maintain trade that overwhelmingly favored China, soon turned into a full-blown conflict as seen in the Opium War.

Since my family has been Catholic for some 1600 years, I have to re-think this membership when such shepherds are such uneducated fools and apparent tools of Satan.
