One Dead After Shooting in Seattle Autonomous Zone

Seattle Official Peddles Conspiracy Theory That CHOP Shooting Was Right-Wing Attack

Anyone who still doubts that woke progressives can pose a material threat to the pursuit of truth should consider the case of David Shor. A week ago, as protests over the unjust police killing of George Floyd took place in major cities across the country, Shor—a 28-year-old political scientist at the Democratic consulting firm Civic Analytics—tweeted some observations about the successes and failures of various movements. He shared research by Princeton University’s Omar Wasow, who has found that violent protests often backfire whereas nonviolent protests are far more likely to succeed. The impulse behind Shor’s tweet was a perfectly liberal one: He feels progressive reforms are more palatable to the public when protesters eschew violence.
But many progressive activists on social media didn’t care whether the impulse was liberal, or even whether it reflected reality. They denounced Shor as a racist for daring to scrutinize the protesters, even if his aim was to make them more effective. One activist accused Shor of using his “anxiety and ‘intellect’ as a vehicle for anti-blackness.” Then she tagged Civis Analytics, and invited the company to “come get your boy.”
Get him, they did. Civic Analytics promptly fired Shor.

A Belgian journalist is being threatened by Muslims for an article he wrote earlier this month about a three-year-old girl who was slaughtered by Islamic extremists using machetes in Nigeria.
Jakob Kürüm writes for SCEPTR, a popular Flemish conservative news portal. On June 12 he published an article about a 3-year-old Nigerian Christian girl, Elizabeth Samaila, who was cut to pieces by Islamic extremists wielding machetes when they attacked her village. Nine other villagers were also killed and several others are missing. Additionally, an 8-year-old girl was severely injured.

Germany: Hundreds Run Riot in Stuttgart City Centre After Drug Checks
More than 20 people arrested after police injured and shops looted in late-night rampage
German authorities have expressed shock over a rampage of an “unprecedented scale” in the centre of Stuttgart, where hundreds of partygoers ran riot overnight and into Sunday, breaking shop windows, plundering and attacking police.
Two dozen people, half of them German nationals, were provisionally arrested and police reported 19 officers hurt. “They were unbelievable scenes that have left me speechless. In my 46 years of police service, I have never experienced this,” said the Stuttgart police chief, Franz Lutz.
Tensions built up shortly after midnight when officers carried out checks on a 17-year-old German man suspected of using drugs, said Stuttgart’s deputy police chief, Thomas Berger.
Crowds who were milling around at the city’s biggest square, the Schlossplatz, immediately rallied around the young man and began throwing stones and bottles at police. The groups, mostly men, also used sticks or poles to break the windows of police vehicles parked in the area.
“I sharply condemn this brutal outbreak of violence, these acts against people and things are criminal action that must be forcefully prosecuted and condemned,” said Winfried Kretschmann, Baden-Württemberg’s state premier, in a statement.

Germany: “Youths” Riot, Fight Police (Video)
Dozens of groups of “youths” rioted in the centre of the city of Stuttgart last night, causing severe property damage, looting, and injuring police officers.
20 people were arrested and more than a dozen police officers were injured amidst the chaos, according to a report by ZDF Heute. There was extensive property damage, with many shop windows broken, and rioters pulled cobblestones out of the streets and threw them at officers. Many police vehicles were damaged as well. Widespread looting was also reported.

German Intelligence Fears New Wave of Far-Left Terrorism
A new wave of far-left terrorism is very much within the realm of possibilities, according to a report on political extremism released by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), Germany’s domestic intelligence agency.

The proposal referred to as Next Generation EU amounts to an attempt by Brussels bureaucrats to corrupt democratic states in Europe, said Professor of Public Finance at the Technical University of Berlin Markus Kerber in an interview with the weekly Echo24.

How Will Europe Guarantee Its Security Without the US?
News of the withdrawal of US troops from Germany has prompted calls for Europe to play a bigger defense role. Could Europeans really take their security fate into their own hands?
Days after US President Donald Trump announced the withdrawal of roughly one third of US troops stationed in Germany, the shock still lingers.
Politicians at every level are grappling with the consequences: Mayors in economically weak regions are worried about losing income when the GIs leave, Germany’s foreign minister is worried about the further deterioration of relations with the US and military planners in Brussels are pondering the implication for Europe’s own security architecture. Germany has been a key component of the US defense strategy in Europe for decades, with US nuclear weapons — to be delivered by German fighter jets in a moment of crisis — stationed here.

Orban Says Hungarians and Slovaks Wish to be Successful Together

Plurality of French Say ‘Anti-White’ Racism is a Problem in France

Syria: UN Says Thousands of Students Blocked by Militias
Calls on warring parties to let students travel for exams
BEIRUT — The United Nations on Friday called on the parties involved in the war in Syria to allow tens of thousands of high school students taking their final exams to move from the areas where they live, as residents or displaced, to exam sites. The call comes as militants from various sides have blocked the movements of thousands of students, who are often subjected to intimidation and violence.
In a statement released Friday morning by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the organisation called on the warring parties in Syria to allow at least 23,000 students in the regions of the northeast (under Kurdish-American control) and the northwest (under Turkish-Russian control) to be able to move freely to reach sites for exams scheduled on Sunday in government areas.

Turkey: Conversion of Hagia Sophia Into Mosque in July — Media
‘Polls in favor, Erdogan to give green light’
(ANSAmed) — ISTANBUL, JUNE 17 — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan could convert Hagia Sophia into a mosque on July 15, during a commemoration of the anniversary of the failed coup in 2016 in Turkey, according to local news reports. The plan was reportedly presented to the Turkish president at a meeting on Monday of the central committee of his AKP party during which he was told about the positive outcome of surveys on the initiative which would reportedly be popular also among nationalist voters backing the opposition.
A landmark of Istanbul, for nearly a millennium a Christian basilica before it became a mosque with the Ottoman conquest in 1453 and then transformed into a museum by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in 1935, Hagia Sophia has been for decades at the center of a controversy over its status.
The hypothesis of turning it again into a place of worship has gained momentum in Turkey after Erdogan on May 29, the anniversary of the Ottoman takeover of Constantinople, decided that the Sura on the conquest could be recited inside the building, sparking strong international protests, in particular from Greece.
The Council of State is expected to rule on the matter on July 2 although some reports have alleged that the mosque could be converted even if the vote doesn’t back the move.

After returning to the UK, Dr Bayliss used Google Earth to pinpoint the coordinates, uncovering what is known as Mount Mabu to the locals — an extremely diverse forest unknown to plant and animal scientists. A team of experts from the Mulanje Mountain Conservation Trust visited the area now known as the ‘Google Forest’ and, along with Dr Bayliss, they discovered 12 new species of animals including new types of chameleon, snake and butterflies.

Greece: Violent Clashes Between Illegal Immigrants in Malakasa
A man was seriously injured after a fierce clash took place in the Malakasa migrant camp last night.
According to information from Security News, the incident was between men of Afghan origin.
The stone-throwing between the migrants resulted in the serious injury of one of those involved, who was picked up by a Greek ambulance and taken to hospital.
The situation calmed down when police forces rushed to the spot. At the sight of police, the illegal immigrants returned to their camps and no arrests were made.

Greece: Villagers in Lesvos Fearful of Illegal Immigrants
At the mercy of thieving illegal immigrants who have looted estates, slaughtered animals and destroyed properties, are the inhabitants of Afalonas on the island of Lesvos.
In April, a resident of the village was shot and injured by illegal immigrants who had entered his property. Today the situation has not changed as the looting continues, the residents are in despair and unprotected. The head of the village, Costas Kourogenis, has expressed the common fear that such phenomena may be repeated, reported Nea Lesvou.
“The first house on the outskirts of the village is 700 meters away from the Moria migrant camp. People only hear what is happening in Moria [town], but our village has the same fate, for about a year now,” Kourogenis told Nea tis Lesvou.
“Residents are now afraid to spend the night in their own home,” he said, adding that “there are villagers sleeping with rifles and others who have shot in the air when migrants were found inside their properties. I am very afraid that if this uncontrollable situation continues, unpleasant events will happen again.”

Slovenia Police Find 22 Migrants Hidden in Tanker Trucks
LJUBLJANA, Slovenia (AP) — Police in Slovenia say they discovered 22 migrants hiding in two food-grade tanker trucks.
The migrants were found inside the trucks on Saturday at the border with Croatia, police said. The trucks had Serbian license plates.

Sweden: Celebrity Migrant Hairdresser Convicted of Raping a Client
Aryan Saleh, also known as Alex, has been convicted of raping a client during a session. Aryan was the owner of the famous hairdressing salon, Saxess by Alex, in central Stockholm.
Aryan, 33, contacted a female client on April 16 of this year, inviting her to a free hair treatment and sparkling wine. The woman accepted, and after the session, he invited her into an office on the pretext of giving her a neck message.
The woman went with Aryan. Once there, he asked her to take off her top and began touching her body. When she asked him to stop, she said his personality changed and that he refused to take “no” for an answer. According to the victim’s testimony, Aryan told her to “stop playing games,” according to a report by Samhällsnytt.

Sweden: 18,000 Asylum Seekers From 2015 Now Given EU Citizenship
Over 18,000 people who came to Sweden during the height of the 2015 migrant crisis have been granted Swedish citizenship — and by extension EU citizenship — since being initially accepted for asylum status.
The Swedish migration board has revealed that a total of 18,420 people who came to the country in 2015 as asylum seekers are now Swedish citizens, granting full citizenship rights including the right to Free Movement around the EU — including Britain, until the end of the 2020 transition period — and the right to vote.
