German Economy Faces Worst Recession in Post-War History

Europe’s largest economy will contract by 6.6 percent this year, marking the country’s worst recession in post-war history, the Munich-based Institute for Economic Research (IFO), one of Germany’s leading think-tanks said on Wednesday.

In its April survey of around 8,800 companies, the think-tank found that Germany’s economic output had fallen by 16 percent across all industries due to the national lockdown measures, which have been in place since March 22, and the survey expected a 12.2 percent fall in the second quarter based on companies’ capacity utilization data.

7 Facts That Suggest Illinoisans Can & Must Get Back to Work

Authored by Ted Dabrowski and John Klingner via Wirepoints.org

On March 20, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed an executive order requiring residents to stay at home in response to COVID-19. With sparse and inconsistent data to go on, the state acted in an abundance of caution. And facing fear and uncertainty, the general public accepted shutdown orders that have resulted in an economic collapse.

But today, the situation is far different. We now have far more data about the crisis and yet the state’s overall shutdown strategy hasn’t materially changed.

For one, the data tells us who’s most at risk from COVID-19, and it’s not the general public. It’s overwhelmingly those with preexisting conditions, especially the elderly. They’re the ones that need to be far better protected, and if necessary, quarantined.

Feds Probe ‘Substantial Contractual Relations’ Between University of Texas and Wuhan Biolab

The Department of Education is conducting a wide-ranging investigation into “substantial contractual relations” between the University of Texas and the Wuhan Institute of Virology, and has asked the university to preserve and produce extensive records of gifts or contracts with the lab, according to the Wall Street Journal.

According to a letter addressed to University Chancellor James Milken, the government request includes records of gifts or contracts related to Wuhan researcher Shi Zhengli, who co-authored a controversial 2015 paper which described the creation of a new virus by combining a coronavirus found in Chinese horseshoe bats with another that causes human-like severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in mice.

Illinois Releases 4,000 Prisoners Early, Including 146 Sex Offenders, 64 Murderers

The state of Illinois has released 4,000 prisoners as part of its pandemic mitigation strategy, a group of convicted criminals including 146 sex offenders and 64 convicted murderers.

Prisons and jails around the country have resorted to setting criminals free in the hopes of preventing disease outbreaks within correctional houses. In Illinois, criminals were either pardoned by Gov. JB Pritzker or else released early by authorities.

The state attorney’s office said it was originally told the government would only be releasing “non-violent” offenders as part of the strategy. The state has also been releasing offenders so quickly some areas have not had time to inform victims, as required by law.

Illinois Governor Fumes Over ‘Reprehensible’ Question About Wife’s Bugout to $12 Million Florida Estate

While Democrats are by and large the staunchest proponents of “stay-at-home” orders aimed at slowing the spread of the Wuhan coronavirus, the rules apparently don’t apply if you’re a governor’s wife.

During a Wednesday press conference, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) became visibly irritated over a question over whether his wife, M.K. Pritzker, had flaunted the state’s extended stay-at-home order — which prohibits non-essential travel, skipping skipped off to the couple’s $12 million estate in Wellington, Florida.

NYT Story That Claims US Officials ‘Pressured’ Spies to Link Lab to Coronavirus is Based on One Person’s Comments From January

A New York Times story published Thursday claimed that Trump officials have unduly pressured intelligence agencies to link the Wuhan bio-lab to the coronavirus outbreak, yet it simultaneously admits that the President has done no such thing and is based mostly around one comment made by a National Security Council official in January.

The story was cited by mainstream sources and leftist websites ad-nauseam Thursday night, as some kind of proof that the Chinese lab has nothing to do with the virus outbreak.

It was also used to suggest that US intelligence agencies have all but dismissed the notion, when that is simply not the case.

The ADL is Coming for Gamers

The unironically named ADL (Anti-Defamation League) have for some reason decided to go hard against gaming in general, and one of gaming’s biggest platforms in particular.

That platform is Valve’s game digital distribution service Steam, which is portrayed in a post on the NGO’s website as a place harboring dangerous criminals and radicals, including anti-Semites and potential mass shooters.

At the same time, Steam is said to be both a leading “storefront and social platform” for PC gamers, who are reportedly a large demographic, present in at least 75% of US households. Building further the case of why it’s important to better control goings-on on Steam, the gaming industry is described as raking in more money than both movies and music giants each year.

The Power of Political Myth (Part 3 of 3)

While, ultimately, I believe that we are heading inexorably towards a hot civil war, I do think we can shear a few people away from the other side. Even devoted Leftists can awaken, as noted in On Leaving the SJW Cult and Finding Myself (bolding added):

I see increasing numbers of so-called liberals cheering censorship and defending violence as a response to speech.I see seemingly reasonable people wishing death on others and laughing at escalating suicide and addiction rates of the white working class. I see liberal think pieces written in opposition to expressing empathy or civility in interactions with those with whom we disagree.I see 63 million Trump voters written off as “nazis” who are okay to target with physical violence. I see concepts like equality and justice being used as a mask for resentful, murderous rage.

The most pernicious aspect of this evolution of the left, is how it seems to be changing people, and how rapidly since the election. I have been dwelling on this Nietzsche quote for almost six months now, “He who fights with monsters, should be careful lest he thereby become a monster. And if thou gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will also gaze into thee.” How easy is it for ordinary humans to commit atrocious acts? History teaches us it’s pretty damn easy when you are blinded to your own hypocrisy. When you believe you are morally superior, when you have dehumanized those you disagree with, you can justify almost anything. In a particularly vocal part of the left, justification for dehumanizing and committing violence against those on the right has already begun.

Remember the quote I had in Part I from my essay The Scarlet “R”? Fits right in with the above concerns about what’s happening. How to break this mindset?…

With the lockdowns in the wake of the Wuhan Coronavirus pandemic and social distancing norms imposed on countries around the world, people in their homes are getting increasingly frustrated and it is starting to impact at a psychological level. I’ve extrapolated this out — and I won’t have to for a few years because I’ve got food and stuff — but I’m literally looking at my neighbors now and going, ‘I’m ready to hang ‘em up and gut ‘em and skin ‘em and chop ‘em up. Before the coronavirus hit Russia, Putin had been pursuing a series of constitutional amendments that would allow him to stay president until 2036.

As Hindu Vegetable Vendors Are Targeted for Bhagwa Flags, Here is Why the Indian State Should be Gravely Concerned

A new phenomenon has emerged in recent times. Attempts are being made to target vegetable vendors who demonstrate their Hindu identity while they are going about their daily business. They are, of course, doing nothing wrong or breaking any law of the country, for the choice to display one’s faith publicly is one that has been granted by the Indian Constitution. Prior to this, an organized attempt was launched to target Hindus living in the Gulf. These two events came after the termination of the Shaheen Bagh protests in the wake of the Wuhan Coronavirus pandemic. The end of these Islamist protests were preceded by a cycle of violence that began after the passage of the Citizenship Amendment Act and culminated with the anti-Hindu riots in Delhi. These might come across as a disjointed set of events but in reality, they are not. These are symptoms of a disease that has gripped the heart of the country. The core of the Secular Republic of India is coming apart and the ideas of a certain German Jurist are becoming relevant again.

The targeted attempts at harassing Hindu vegetable vendors are only the latest in a series of attempts to target Hindus. While the Delhi Police and security personnel were able to ensure that the riots in Delhi did not spell absolute carnage, although far too many lives were lost, they were not in a position to do much when Hindus living in the Middle East were targeted and frankly, in the attempt to harass Hindu vegetable vendors, they have been complicit. If we are to be honest, we cannot blame the conduct of the Police on the novelty of the situation, the blame for it lies squarely on the manner in which political parties and Indian institutions of all hues have adopted a harsher stance towards Hindus while observing lenience during their interactions with the Muslim community.

From a Sri Lankan Rainforest, A New Species of Orchid Blooms

COLOMBO — A rare new orchid described from a tropical lowland rainforest in Sri Lanka now bears the name of two of the island’s pioneering forest ecologists.

A new paper published in the journal Biotaxa identifies the new discovery as Gastrodia gunatillekeorum, a species found in just three small populations comprising fewer than 100 mature individuals. That makes it both habitat specific and endangered.

Chinese authorities in Tibet have further tightened controls over information flows in the region, arresting Tibetans last year for sharing news and opinions on social media and for contacting relatives living in exile, according to rights groups and other experts.

Particular targets of censors and police were images of exiled spiritual leader the Dalai Lama shared on mobile phones and calls for the preservation of the Tibetan language, now under threat from government orders to establish Chinese as the main language of instruction in Tibetan schools.

On Easter Sunday, authorities ripped down the cross that used to surmount the tympanum of a church in the diocese of Xinxiang in Henan province. A blogger priest, Father Shanren Shenfu said that silence in the face of the destruction of crosses is part of the price to pay for the Vatican’s agreement with the CCP on the appointment of bishops in the country.

Newsweek Bombshell: COVID-19 Virus Lab-Made? Fauci Connected?

One of the more acutely-asked questions since the covid-19 pandemic broke out has been: Is the virus man-made? Debate on the matter has been wild and furious. After much investigation, Chris is now chiming in on the heels of an explosive Newsweek report. Newsweek reveals that as recently as last year, the US funded scientists at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in ‘gain of function’ research on bat coronaviruses. The source of that funding? The National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Disease, headed by…..(drumroll please)….Dr Anthony Fauci, lead medical expert for America’s Covid-19 task force. Now, this doesn’t mean the virus was lab-engineered as a bio-weapon. But it does suggest a naturally-occuring bat virus could have been artificially accelerated along certain vectors. Of course, this raises an awfully lot of urgent and important questions. So far, Fauci has not commented on the Newsweek report. But we will be keeping close tabs on developments from here…

Greek Defence Minister Expects New Wave of Migrants Soon

Although the Greek-Turkish border has seen a drop-off in migrants attempting to illegally cross in recent weeks due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, Greece’s Minister of National Defence says that he expects the migrant wave to surge again soon.

Greece has been on the front line of the ongoing migrant crisis from the beginning. And after Turkish President Recep Erdogan announced that his country would no longer prevent the millions of migrants on its territory from crossing the border at the end of February, Greek security forces faced nightly battles with armies of migrants being aided by the Turkish police for weeks afterwards, as previously reported by Voice of Europe.

  1. A bit about the cynicism of the Russian government.
    ============
In St. Petersburg, before paying compensation to doctors, officials will assess the percentage of their guilt in coronavirus infection

The administration of St. Petersburg instructed the special commissions to make decisions on the payment of compensation to physicians infected with the coronavirus. The order is published on the government website. However, the money will be paid only after officials find out what percentage of the doctor’s guilt is that he became infected with a highly contagious virus.

The published document says that in order for the family of the deceased medic to receive compensation, the coronavirus must be indicated in the death certificate. If the doctor died “from concomitant diseases”, there will be no payment. “Fontanka” writes that this item was not in the draft order – it was added “at the stage of approval.”

To determine whether compensation is due to the health care provider or his family, a special commission should conduct an investigation. It will include the direct head of the physician, labor protection specialist, a representative of the trade union, and “other officials by decision of the employer.” It should be headed by one of the deputy heads of the hospital.

The commission will determine under what circumstances the employee has become infected. Members of the commission must establish “the presence of guilt of the medical worker (in percent).” Based on the outcome of the investigation, the commission will indicate whether the physician should be recognized as “injured as a result of helping patients.”

According to the head of the working group on the fight against coronavirus, director of the medical center Almazov Evgeny Shlyakhto, in St. Petersburg, only half of the doctors have the disease COVID-19 directly related to work. Most likely, infected doctors working in unprofiled hospitals will not automatically fall under Smolny’s decree on payments.

In mid-April, St. Petersburg authorities decided to pay a million rubles to the families of physicians who died from coronavirus, 500 thousand rubles to those who received disabilities due to infection, and 300 thousand rubles to the rest. However, only 30 million rubles were allocated for these purposes. At the same time, on April 30, about 250 cases of infection by doctors, paramedics and orderlies were already detected in the city. Eight COVID-19 medical personnel died. Some of them were not included in the official statistics of coronavirus victims.

    • I completely forgot about one detail. This migrant, whom the media calls a “resident of Moscow,” first tries to assert “his rights” according to the scheme that “human rights activists” of migrants teach on social media blogs.
But something did not work out – nature failed.

  2. So is Michael Moore a Nazi now? Because anybody the left disagrees with is a Nazi.

    • I watched the whole film (Moore was executive producer, not director, but we may assume he approved of the content).

At no point was the desirability-indeed, the need- for increased reliability on nuclear power considered. Yes, it has its problems, not least with keeping waste safe, and of course plants shouldn’t be built in geologically unstable locations (sorry Japan and California), but it does seem the least bad option.

  3. I would think the “tune up” that refugee gets at the Russian police station after arrested would put him in the hospital or the morgue .The Russian police would not abide or worry about “civil rights” or liberties of other police officers standards in Western Europe or North America.I would think twice about fooling around with Russian or South American police officers if I were a stranger in their land.People can have been known to have very nasty “accidents” or suicides in police stations in far away lands.

    • Surprise! As the ancients said: everything flows, everything changes.

The court did not arrest a man who attacked a policeman in Moscow

The Perovsky District Court of Moscow refused to arrest a man who hit a police officer in the face and tried to seize his weapon. This was reported to TASS in court.

“The court received a motion from the investigation to take a preventive measure in the form of taking into custody M. Matmusaev, in respect of whom a criminal case was initiated under part 1 of article 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (” The use of violence against a representative who is not dangerous to his life or health “). Having examined this material, the judge decided to refuse to satisfy this petition,” the court said, without specifying what preventive measure was chosen by Matmusaev.

Now there are a lot of Muslims in the police, courts and prosecutors.

    • I completely forgot: in some media this person is called a “Muscovite” (a resident of Moscow). He does not speak Russian, but “Muscovite”!

  4. Okay, this one is pretty shocking, even for the Merkel governed Germany.

I’m sure you’ve read from Breitbart that the two main parties in the Bundestag (Dhimmistag) were actually arguing for allowing Mosque Muezzins to, I [defecate] you not, conduct calls to prayer on a nation-wide scale as a “sign of solidarity and cohesion” in these times…“after all, the church sounds the bell all the time right?” I wanted to rip my hair out reading that.

Nowhere, I mean nowhere, could I find any comment in any comment section of even the most liberal site anyone who thought it was anything less than nuts. Not even Die Welt or Der Spiegel.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.welt.de/politik/deutschland/article207559513/Muezzin-Ruf-Wir-sahen-den-sozialen-Frieden-in-Gefahr.html

Why? Why???? Why would anyone even consider that? Even the dhimmis determined to bow all of Germany to Mecca—why? Ever heard of boiling the frog slowly do it doesn’t jump out? Whackos….such brazen treason.

    https://www.katholisch.de/artikel/25356-muezzin-und-kirchenglocken-emotionale-debatte-um-religioesen-laerm

The silver lining? Well, it remains the decision of local authorities regardless, so de jure nothing has changed as far as I know, but the mere fact it was considered is absolute insanity. In fact it has backfired in the CDU leaderships faces with the Local CDUs administrations rebelling : In Hager, Hesse for example, the Hager CDU pushed back and after one day of permission to the Muezzin deliver the call of Muslim conquest it was cancelled. I don’t know why Germany has such dhimmi leaders in particular—there are plenty of Euro countries with worse demographics…Mutti has to be an ex-Communist infiltrator

  5. With respect to Covid-19 Wuhan, we are seeing normal mortality from a flu. However, it is on a cold type virus. An engineered virus, if the discoverer of HIV is to be believed.

Based on the small numbers of deaths in healthy individuals, this is a disease of concern only to nursing homes, the aged in frail health, and people with bad diseases.

    • That’s what I love about you pesky Russians, not afraid to kill as many enemies as it takes to get the job done. Well done.
