17 Million Americans Have Filed for Unemployment in Past 3 Weeks

The coronavirus pandemic has paralyzed the economy and caused a staggering 16.8 million Americans to file for unemployment in just the past three weeks.

Two weeks ago a then-record 3.3 million jobless claims were reported

Last week saw an additional (upwardly revised) 6.9 million

Today another 6.6 million claims were reported.

A Shocking 17 Million Americans Have Filed for Unemployment in Past 3 Weeks

Two weeks ago it was a record 3.3 million initial claims; last week it was an additional (upwardly revised) 6.875 million in initial claims, and this week another 6.606 million claims (almost exactly our expectation of 6.5 million).

That is a shocking 16.78 million people who have applied for unemployment benefits in the last three weeks.

Canada Lost One Million Jobs in March: Statcan Report

Canada lost over one million jobs in March as the coronavirus pandemic has forced countless employers to either lay off staff or shut their doors completely.

In a report released Thursday, Statistics Canada determined that last month saw the biggest job losses in modern history.

“In March, the number of employed people fell by more than one million (-1,011,000 or —5.3%). The employment rate, or the proportion of people aged 15 and older who were employed, fell 3.3 percentage points to 58.5%. This was the lowest employment rate since April 1997,” wrote StatCan.

EU Agrees €500bn Coronavirus Rescue Package

EU finance ministers have agreed a €500bn (£440bn) rescue package for European countries hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic.

The chairman of the Eurogroup, Mario Centeno, announced the deal, reached after marathon discussions in Brussels.

But the ministers failed to accept a demand from France and Italy to share out the cost of the crisis by issuing so-called coronabonds.

Merkel Says Agrees With Conte on Urgency of EU Solidarity But Rejects Euro Bonds

It’s toughest moment, Germany is ready

(ANSA) — Berlin, April 9 — German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Thursday she agreed with Premier Giuseppe Conte on the urgent need for solidarity during Europe’s “most difficult hour” due to the coronavirus emergency.

“I’ve spoken to Giuseppe Conte and we agree on the fact that solidarity is needed in Europe with urgency in one of the most difficult moments, if not the most difficult,” she said.

“And Germany is ready for solidarity”.

Conte is pushing for euro bonds to fund the economic response to the emergency but Merkel said Thursday that the European Stability Mechanism should be used alongside the European Investment Bank and the EU’s new SURE unemployment scheme.

The Eurogroup is split between those like Italy, France and Spain who are calling for so-called ‘coronabonds’ guaranteed for all and northern countries like Germany and the Netherlands who are against mutualizing debt and want the ESM to be used.

Conte told the BBC earlier that the European project risked failing if a common response is not agreed.

But Merkel reiterated Germany’s opposition to coronabonds Thursday. “You know that I don’t think that we should have a common guarantee of debts and therefore we reject euro bonds,” she said. “But there are so many instruments of solidarity that good solutions can be found. She repeated that solidarity was “urgent” but stressed “you can have different assessments on what are the proper measures (to achieve it)”. Austria, Finland, Denmark and other northern deficit hawks are also against coronabonds, but Italy, France, Spain and Greece have rejected using the ESM bailout fund saying it is outmoded, as it was envisioned for sovereign-debt crises, and penalizes debtor countries like Italy and Greece.

Recession Imminent as Global Economy Comes to a Screeching Halt

by Fayaz Mahessar

Never in peacetime has the global economy experienced what it is going through at the moment. Almost 3 billion people are currently under a lockdown as factories are forced to halt production, travel banned, services discontinued and international trade facing a standstill for an indefinite period.

Coronavirus Continues to Spread

With over 1.3 million confirmed cases and 70,600 deaths worldwide, governments and policy makers across the world are running out of options on how to control the pandemic and insulate against the economic meltdown that is likely to follow in the coming quarters.

As cases rise and death counts mount, more and more countries are undergoing a lockdown which is likely to exacerbate the situation from bad to worse. Keeping in view the impact of partial lockdown during March, the economic outlook for April and May is looking bleak…

Salvini Urges Italian Government to Reject EU Coronavirus ‘Loans’

Italy’s preeminent populist lawmaker and former interior minister Matteo Salvini has urged the country’s ruling coalition government to refrain from accepting EU loans that would “aid” its embattled economy amid the Chinese COVID-19 outbreak.

Senator Salvini, who’s also leader of the Right-wing populist League party and Italy’s most trusted politican, brushed off the viability of EU proposals to help Italy to deal with the coronavirus crisis, arguing that the loans would burden Italy’s younger generations, the Daily Express reports.

Some Americans Should be Receiving Coronavirus Relief Checks on Thursday

Millions of Americans should start receiving their coronavirus relief checks on Thursday, according to an internal IRS plan obtained by the Washington Post.

The date of delivery for the checks — up to $1,200 in relief money for some Americans — depends on how individuals filed their taxes and if they signed up for direct deposit payments for their tax refund. People could begin receiving their money as early as April 9 to April 14.

UK Unleashes Helicopter Money: In Historic Move, BoE Becomes First Central Bank to Openly Monetize Deficit

In a historical move, the Bank of England announced this morning that it will begin to finance the short-term needs of the Treasury, in other words it will directly monetize the UK deficit, something central banks had — for the past decade — denied they do or would do.

The BOE move will allow the government to bypass the bond market entirely until the Covid-19 pandemic subsides, financing unexpected costs such as the job retention scheme where bills will fall due at the end of April. Ironically, as the FT notes, although BoE governor Andrew Bailey opposed monetary financing earlier this week, Treasury officials felt it was best to have the insurance of the central bank willing to finance its operations in the short term.

In a statement on Thursday, the government announced it would extend the size of the government’s bank account at the central bank, known historically as the “Ways and Means Facility”, which normally stands at just £370m. This will rise to an effectively unlimited amount, allowing ministers to spend more in the short term without having to tap the gilts market. In 2008, a similar move saw the facility rise briefly to only £20bn.

And so helicopter money has arrived, with the UK Treasury now taking de facto control of the central bank.

Bill Gates Crosses the Digital Rubicon, Says “Mass Gatherings” May Not Return Without Global Vaccine

A recurring theme among conspiracy theorists is that the elite are just waiting for the right moment to roll out their ‘mark of the beast’ technology to remotely identify and control every single human being on the planet, thus sealing their plans for a one world government. And with many people willing to do just about anything to get back to some sense of normalcy, those fears appear more justified with each passing day.

In the Book of Revelation [13:16-17], there is a passage that has attracted the imagination of believers and disbelievers throughout the ages, and perhaps never more so than right now: “And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark…”

Was John of Patmos history’s first conspiracy theorist, or are we merely indulging ourselves today with a case of self-fulfilling prophecy? Whatever the case may be, many people would probably have serious reservations about being branded with an ID code even if it had never been mentioned in Holy Scripture. But that certainly has not stopped Microsoft founder Bill Gates, who has been warning about a global pandemic for years, from pushing such controversial technologies on all of us.

Bureaucrat: Stay Home and Starve

How many Americans will be frightened by the necessity to buy food and feed their families?

Dr. Deborah Birx, the White House “coronavirus response coordinator,” said on Saturday all plebs must stay out of grocery stores. She didn’t offer an alternative. Instead, she repeated the hand washing and 6-foot “social distancing” mantra.

“This is the moment to not be going to the grocery store, not going to the pharmacy, but doing everything you can to keep your family and your friends safe and that means everybody doing the 6-feet distancing, washing their hands,” said the life-long bureaucrat.

I seriously doubt Ms. Birx does her own shopping. As a top-level flunky of the state and its preferred transnational corporate crony clients, Brix likely dispatches servants to do the shopping and cooking. She has more important tasks at hand, such as frightening the public into subservience with scary worst-case speculation minus hard data, pushing house arrest, and repeating ad nauseam the hand-wash-social-distance mantra.

Birx’s insane suggestion—with the full weight of the state behind it—is naturally ignored by millions of Americans that have no choice but to queue up inside grocery stores and pharmacies, daring a virus they are propagandized into believing is everywhere, lethal as the Black Death.

Dr. Fauci’s Plandemic: Coronavirus Fear Campaign

fugazee: fake, not genuine, counterfeit, fraudulent, fictitious, bunk

Mounting evidence has emerged confirming that the Coronavirus fears being fed to the American public and the world are a well-orchestrated, planned, crisis exercise event.

A video has emerged of Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the lead spokesperson for Trump’s Coronavirus Task Force, in which he states, “There will be a surprise outbreak.” The recording is from a speech he gave at Georgetown University on January 10, 2017, just ten days before Donald J. Trump was sworn in as the 45th president of the United States. Based on the timing of Dr. Fauci’s statement, it can be surmised that a planned epidemic was the Deep State’s “nuclear option,” if all other efforts failed in removing President Trump from office…

The fake news media would have you believe that the nation’s hospitals are being overwhelmed with Coronavirus cases. Alternative independent citizen journalists are revealing that the leftist mainstream media is wildly exaggerating Coronavirus statistics and is flat out lying about overcrowded hospitals. Independent citizen journalists have revealed that even in Manhattan, New York City’s “crisis epicenter,” where it has been reported that hospitals are overwhelmed with hordes of people lining up to be tested, that this is not the case at all (5:30 mark video)…

The Coronavirus is not a hoax; it is a real disease. However, an overhyped fear and hysteria campaign and an exaggerated Coronavirus death toll are being perpetrated on the American public by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). People die every year. Many deaths in 2020 are being ATTRIBUTED to Coronavirus, but not all of these deaths are being CAUSED by Coronavirus.

FOLLOW THE MONEY… Government officials, the CDC, hospital administrators, doctors, and many others are in on the Coronavirus fear campaign and exaggerated sick and death toll deception. Coronavirus Task Force team members Dr. Deborah Birx and Dr. Anthony Fauci both sit on boards that have received billions of dollars from Bill Gates’ foundation. Gates is an advocate for a public lockdown during the Coronavirus outbreak and is a proponent of introducing vaccines to combat Coronavirus and future diseases. Gates was dismissive of a treatment for the Coronavirus, Chloroquine, which in trials has shown to be 100% effective in treating Coronavirus. Gates stated in an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, “There’s no magic drug for Coronavirus right now. Let me put it into perspective for the viewers. There has been anecdotal non-proven data that it [Chloroquine] works… but when you have an uncontrolled trial you can never definitely say that it works.”

Well of course Bill Gates does not want Chloroquine to work as an effective treatment and cure for Coronavirus. Chloroquine is a CONFLICT OF INTEREST with Gates’ agenda to push his vaccines on the public.

Fauci Set Stage for Mandatory Vaccine

Fauci has been the primary voice in the Trump administration urging the public to be skeptical of hydroxychloroquine, a possible miracle treatment for coronavirus. Fauci has remained a critic of hydroxychloroquine despite indications that it can be effective in helping the afflicted recover from the disease.

“No. The answer is no,” Fauci said last month after he was asked about whether or not there was any evidence showing that hydroxychloroquine can be effective in treating the coronavirus.

When it became clear that hydroxychloroquine can be effective in treating the coronavirus, Fauci walked back his comments. “Although there is some suggestion with the study that was just mentioned by Dr. Oz, granted that there is a suggestion that there is a benefit there, I think we’ve got to be careful that we don’t make that majestic leap to assume that this is a knockout drug,” Fauci said during an appearance on “FOX & Friends” last week.

Fauci may be trying to halt the use of hydroxychloroquine as part of the “Global Vaccine Action Plan” that he plotted many years ago. Gates has already talked about digital tracking implants being tagged into people’s skin for authorities to enforce their vaccination schedule. Fauci could be serving as a bureaucratic enabler of Gates’ sociopathic Big Brother ambitions.

Free Speech Org Vows to ‘Monitor’ Colleges With Classes Online

On April 2, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) issued a statement outlining the steps that students, professors, and school administrators can take to protect academic freedom along with freedom of expression within the virtual classroom, vowing to “monitor” colleges to help ensure they do not violate students’ civil liberties amid the coronavirus crisis.

The recent trend of “Zoombombing,” in which uninvited guests disrupt virtual classrooms, has prompted authorities such as the New York Attorney General and even the FBI to look into and assess the quality of privacy when using the teleconferencing application, Zoom.

While these disruptions in classrooms were typically the display of obscenities resulting in justifiable removal of the disruptors, concerns still remain about the protection of First Amendment rights within the classroom.

Jared Kushner and His Coronavirus Task Force Team Seeks National COVID-19 Surveillance System

The proposed national network could help determine which areas of the country can safely relax social-distancing rules and which should remain vigilant. But it would also represent a significant expansion of government use of individual patient data, forcing a new reckoning over privacy limits amid a national crisis.

Health privacy laws already grant broad exceptions for national security purposes. But the prospect of compiling a national database of potentially sensitive health information has prompted concerns about its impact on civil liberties well after the coronavirus threat recedes, with some critics comparing it to the Patriot Act enacted after the 9/11 attacks.

Mississippi Bill Aims to Protect College Students’ Free Speech Rights

The Mississippi House of Representatives recently passed a campus free speech bill, which, if signed into law would ban free speech zones on college campuses.

CNBC anchor Michelle Caruso-Cabrera filed to run against sitting Democratic Congresscritter and onetime bartender Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez back in February, and will soon report to the Federal Election Commission just how well-heeled her campaign really is. A New York Post story claims that Caruso-Cabrera “will report having $800,00 in cash on hand — minus expenses paid” when she files with the FEC later this month. It’s safe to conclude that with more than two months to go before the primary vote, Caruso-Cabrera is already a million-dollar candidate.

ABC News reported on Wednesday that a National Center for Medical Intelligence report from November of last year predicted a “cataclysmic” pandemic from the coronavirus. Experts believe that the disease may have originated as early as that month in Wuhan, China.

Ron Paul: Resistance Building to Coronavirus ‘House Arrest’ Orders… it’s About Time!

Americans have suffered under the boot of tyranny long enough. Resistance to the house arrest orders and pushback against the bans from making a living are finally surfacing in large numbers. Have people finally realized they are not slaves to be controlled by a few power-hungry politicians?

Across the country, from political leaders to small business owners, to parents who just want to take their children to the park, resistance is growing to the authoritarians who have effectively suspended the Constitution and placed most of the country under house arrest.

Lawsuits are also challenging unlawful “stay at home” orders. What if all the hysteria-driven orders have actually made the virus outbreak even worse? More scientists are coming forward to argue for the “Sweden model” of moderation rather than lockdown.

In Dr. Ron Paul’s latest Liberty report, he says this frustration is positive.

As Americans begin to lose patience with their enslavement and the tyranny of almost every governor in this country, the government should see themselves as on borrowed time. “Fauci is losing credibility,” says Dr. paul. Give the people back their natural right to freedom of speech, peaceful assembly, and the ability to make a living.

Dr. Paul says there’s a group of people in Idaho that are on the right side of human rights and the Constitution vocally standing up to the authoritarians who attempted to enslave the entire public.

Paul and Daniel McAdams discussed the psychological impact of fear this has had on the general public. The fear has led to people accepting their chains, yet that’s beginning to change. If governors and the federal government do no want to go down in history in the same manner as other tyrants, they would do well to give people back their rights and to never attempt this type of enslavement again.

Study Finds Most Cases of COVID-19 in NYC Came From Europe, Other Places in US

New York City’s first confirmed COVID-19 cases are from primarily European and United States sources, according to the first molecular epidemiology study of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, conducted by Mount Sinai.

The study, which was published online, was led by Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai researchers and is the first to trace the source of the cases. The study shows that the epidemic in the city predominately arose through untracked transmission between the United States and Europe. It also found limited evidence to support any direct introductions from China, where the virus originated, or other locations in Asia.

Trump: America Will Reopen “Sooner Than You Think”

Politicians have made the solution to the coronavirus pandemic far worse by destroying people’s lives in order to slow the spread of what will be a seasonal sickness we will all get at some point. “We have to get back to work. We have to open our country again,” the president said repeatedly and emphatically at a coronavirus press conference at the White House.

But how soon could that be? People are already saying the government’s $1200 stimulus checks won’t be enough to save them from financial destruction.

My sense is that the president is about to lose his patience with all of his medical experts, who want to keep America under lock and key until the very last individual virus has been cornered in some out of the way place and put out of our misery. But he knows America can’t wait that long if there is going to be a country and an economy left to save. Trump understands this stay-at-home policy his health experts are foisting on him is doing more harm to America than the virus ever could. The cure is rapidly becoming worse than the disease. —Brian Fischer, One News Now

Things have spiraled out of control to the point that the Chinese are likely laughing at our willingness to accept tyranny and the complete decimation of the economy. The mainstream media continues to panic people while Bill Gates demands you give up your livelihood and lose everything you’ve worked for during a sustained months-long draconian lockdown that physicians say is not working.

We are not saving lives, we are trading off lives. Suicides have already skyrocketed and they will grow exponentially if people cannot begin to legally feed their families again. This has gotten out of hand and if we want to remain a first world country without the looting, rioting, and violence, we will all be back to work by Monday. If not, we’ll devolve into something that looks like Venezuela with a totalitarian police state barking orders we are all expected to obey while being banned from making money to pay for food or rent.

EU Ventilator Scheme Has Produced No Machines, Claim UK Govt Turned Down 50k ‘False’

How Have Populists Responded to COVID-19?

by Matt Snape

It is difficult to predict what long-term impact the coronavirus will have on global politics, but it is unlikely that this pandemic is going to stem the rise of populism. Ivan Krastev of the New Statesman wrote that it would be ironic if US President Donald Trump was defeated in this year’s presidential election because of a radical backlash against globalization of the kind that he espoused, whilst being defeated by a virus named after a Mexican beer that originated in China.

Populism Has Surged in France

Krastev’s words aside, however, it is looking unlikely that Covid-19 is going to stem Trump’s popularity. A Monmouth University poll found that the President’s approval rating was as high as 46 percent. This is particularly impressive considering he has been lambasted by numerous media outlets for failing to take the pandemic seriously. There is clearly still a strong appetite for Trump’s rhetoric in the US and this bodes well for him in November.

Populism has also surged in France, but in a different way. Activists from both sides of the political spectrum have resorted to spreading misinformation and conspiracy theories on social media. According to Politico, they have accused the political class of abandoning “ordinary” people to face the epidemic by themselves. Left and right populists have also said that Covid-19 was invented in a French laboratory (even though it is clear the virus originated from a wet market in Wuhan) and that the “Big Pharma” industry has allowed this disease to spread so that pharmaceutical companies can make more money…

Italy: Archaeology: Herculaneum Offering Online Tours

Youtube channel set up as Instagram site gains followers

ERCOLANO — Despite government restrictions imposed on movement as part of efforts to stop the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, cultural activities continue for the Ercolano (Herculaneum) Parco Archeologico. Almost a month after the gates of the archaeological site shut, virtual tours and online visit possibilities have multiplied and grown in popularity. Among the many other initiatives is ‘I Lapilli del Parco Archeologico di Ercolano’, a virtual visit to the site of the ancient Herculaneum.

The lapilli shown thus far online include the Fornici e la Barca di Herculaneum (Barrel Arches and the Boat of Herculaneum) and the Casa dei Cervi (House of Deer). There is also the case study of the Casa del Bicentenario, which was restored to the public after an over 30-year closure, and a virtual visit to the exhibition ‘Bound for Disaster: Pompei and Herculaneum’ at the Moesgaard Museum at the Danish city of Aarhus focusing especially on wax tablets found in the city of Herculaneum in which park director Francesco Sirano serves as a virtual tour guide. The park also now has a Youtube channel with a growing fan base and exponential growth on its Instagram page.

A partnership with the Herculaneum Conservation Project for projects that have started is continuing, as are translations into English of ‘I Lapilli del Parco Archeologico di Ercolano’.

“In these days of smart working, we are moving forward with our conservation and valorisation projects. At the same time we are doing everything we can to reach every single visitor in their homes,” Sirano said, who often goes to the park for inspections. “And we have reorganised in a rapid manner the entire range of visits offered to the public.”

Hindus and Sikhs Under Jihadi Attack in Islamic Afghanistan

The 25 March 2020 attack on a Sikh gurudwara in Kabul focused world attention on the plight of Afghanistan’s indigenous Sikh and Hindu minorities, the target of both local lawless elements and religious fundamentalists. They once were a significant part of Afghanistan’s principally Muslim population and a mark of its cultural syncretism and religious pluralism.

Sifra Lentin | Gateway House | Mumbai | April 9, 2020:: In the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’s population of 36 million, 300 Afghan Hindu and Sikh families are the invisible minorities: the 25 March attack on Gurdwara Har Rai in Kabul’s Shor Bazaar, by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL),cast the spotlight on them once again.

Local Afghans and the Afghan government condemned it as an attack on their brethren, specifically ‘Lalas’ (lit. big brothers), the term by which indigenous Afghan Sikhs and Hindus are addressed. There was an outcry when the last major attack on the Sikh community on 1 July 2018 in Jalalabad happened, their leader Avatar Singh Khalsa and other prominent Sikhs were ambushed by a suicide bomber, leaving 19 dead (including Khalsa).

The solidarity shown by Afghans the world over at that time, and the subsequent condolence visit by President Ashraf Ghani to meet both communities at the historic Gurdwara Karte Parwan (Kabul), have ever since been green shoots of hope for its few remaining members. The fact that the Afghan people stood shoulder to shoulder with their minorities, has helped weaken the narrative perpetuated by religious fundamentalists that Afghan Hindus and Sikhs are Indian because their faiths originate in the Indian sub-continent.

This falsehood redacts centuries of Afghan Hindu and Sikh history and their unique cultural-religious identity, forged in a rugged, landlocked South-Central Asian country. These minority communities (like the Afghan Jews and Christians) lived in relative peace till as recently as 1970s, in an Afghanistan known for its moderate Islam, religious syncretism and pluralistic culture under its Amirs.

Nearly 70 functioning gurdwaras (or dharamsaals) and scores of ancient temples in the 1970s point to the significant presence of these communities. Today many are damaged or locked, or usurped, when their congregations began fleeing abroad to Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Pakistan and India to escape the Civil War between the Communist government in Kabul and the Mujahideen. This coincided with Soviet troop withdrawals in 1989.

While retracing how Hinduism and Sikhism took root in Afghanistan, it is important to note that both predated the nation of Afghanistan as we know it today, which came into being only in 1747 when Amir Ahmed Shah Durrani (Abdali) unified the Pashtun tribes to establish an Afghan Kingdom…

A new species of Triassic reptile from Brazil is a close cousin of a mysterious group called tanystropheids, according to a study published April 8, 2020 in the open-access journal PLOS ONE by Tiane De-Oliviera of the Federal University of Santa Maria, Brazil and colleagues.

After the Permian mass extinction, 250 million years ago, reptiles took over global ecosystems. Among the early groups to appear after this extinction event were the tanystropheids, a group of long-necked animals whose lifestyles are still mysterious, but who were nonetheless successful in the Triassic Period. However, the early evolution of this group is poorly understood, as their remains are very rare from the Early Triassic.

Coronavirus in South America

What the Death of a Maid Means for Brazil

Well-off Brazilians have brought the coronavirus back home with them from their travels. Many of them also employ domestic workers from the country’s favelas — who they’re apparently unwilling to protect by telling them to stay home. Brazil’s poorest class could make easy quarry for the disease.

By Marian Blasberg in Rio de Janeiro

For 63 years, Cleonice Gonçalves, a maid and domestic worker, led a life that went unnoticed by anyone in Rio de Janeiro. Gonçalves worked in a chic apartment in Leblon, down near the beach, where property values are higher than anywhere else in Brazil.

She cleaned toilets and door handles, cooked and ironed. Four days a week, she slept in the tiny servant’s quarters in an apartment that belonged to her “patroa,” her boss. On weekends, she drove home to Miguel Pereira, two hours away, where she lived with her family in an unplastered house beside a gravel road.

Gonçalves, who spent her life being invisible in a faceless sea of cheap labor, commuting from the slums to the city in overcrowded buses and trains, didn’t register on Brazilian society’s radar until she died recently. Her death terrified the country…

Daniel Ortega Out of Sight as Nicaraguan Government Defies Virus Logic

by Daniel Davis

In times of emergency and national crisis, world leaders typically use the opportunities to reassure their citizens, console them, and lead them through the turmoil. Covid-19 is no different. Leaders from practically every nation have played a role in convincing their peoples to stay home. Even Queen Elizabeth II delivered a formal address, only the fifth in her reign. This isn’t the case for all nations, however. As heads of state thrust themselves into the limelight, why is Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega missing in action?

Why is Ortega Gone?

Ortega’s was last seen in public on March 12 during a virtual meeting, the New York Times reported. Although he is accustomed to vanishing from the public eye without reason, the coronavirus pandemic is different. In her report for the New York Times, Frances Robles noted Ortega is rumored to have chronic health problems, but the timing of his most recent absence is too much of a coincidence to be easily believed.

Some would argue the pandemic warrants a presence of leadership. After all, if a president disappears when his nation and the world are in turmoil, what does it say about his ability to lead?…

Belgium: Nearly 300 Migrants Released From Detention Centers

The Belgian Immigration Office has released 297 rejected asylum-seekers from detention centers in order to comply with the coronavirus (COVID-19) prevention guidelines.

The Immigration Office says that, due to migrants’ home countries refusing to take returnees at present due to coronavirus travel restrictions, coupled with the dangers of the infection spreading in crowded reception centers, there was no other legal option to continue holding them.

EU: Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic Broke EU Law

The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) has ruled that Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic broke EU law when they refused to take in migrants under the European Union’s September 2015 relocation agreement. During the 2015 migrant crisis, EU leaders agreed to relocate 160,000 migrants and refugees EU-wide, assigning each EU member state a fixed quota from the camps in Italy and Greece, where migrants and refugees were arriving in record numbers. However, the Czech Republic accepted only 12 of the 2,000 refugees assigned it, while Hungary and Poland took in none.

Judge Orders Release of 4 Convicted Felons

A federal judge on Thursday ruled that six detainees being held in the Adelanto ICE Processing Center in San Bernardino County, California must be released, finding that the individuals were particularly vulnerable to the coronavirus due to underlying health conditions.

The judgment came after the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) sued to free the detainees.

Judge Terry J. Hatter, an appointee of President Jimmy Carter, ordered the release of Jose Robles Rodriguez, Jose Hernandez Velasquez, Martin Vargas Arellano, Charleston Edward Dacoff, Luis Lopez Salgado, and Paola Rayon Vite.

An ICE document obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation reveals that four of these inmates have been convicted of felony crimes — some of them carrying extensive rap sheets that date back to the 1980s.

Martin Vargas Arellano, a 54-year-old Mexican national, was convicted of sexual assault in 1984, convicted of “lewd or lascivious acts with a minor” in 1985, and given a felony conviction in 2018 for a registered sex offender violation, according to the document.

Between 1988 and 2011, Vargas Arellano was convicted of robbery, burglary, domestic violence, assault, and drug possession…

“We are thrilled our plaintiffs will soon be home safe,” a senior staff attorney for the ACLU said after the judge’s decision, and added that it was “unconstitutional” to keep other detainees in ICE custody at this time.

  1. ..” Christianity is a rebellion against natural law, a protest against nature. Taken to its logical extreme, Christianity would mean the systematic cultivation of the human failure. (Adolf Hitler, 10 October 1941) “….
There we are ..in the same place in 2020..
Andrew Bolt in covering the Pell story; he writes for the Herald Sun. He has long noted the media bias against Pell. In 2016, he wrote, “There is something utterly repulsive about the media’s persecution of George Pell. There is something also very frightening about this abuse of power.” On July 3, 2017, Bolt said, “The media commentary suggests there’s little chance Cardinal George Pell can get a fair trial.” What concerns him is the temptation to make someone in the Church hierarchy pay for the sins of others. “He himself may be innocent,” Bolt says, “yet could be punished as a scapegoat.”
Amanda Vanstone is not a friend of organized religion, but in her coverage in the Sydney Morning Herald she noted that “What we are seeing is no better than a lynch mob from the dark ages.” She adds that “The public arena is being used to trash a reputation and probably prevent a fair trial.” She freely admits that she and Pell have “widely divergent views on a number of matters,” but having “differing views isn’t meant to be a social death warrant for the one with the least popular views.”……..

The principal reason why Pell is hated is because he is a larger-than-life Australian cleric who strongly supports the Church’s teachings on sexuality. Quite frankly, he is an inviting target in a land where expressions of anti-Catholic bigotry are ascendant. Carl E. Olson writes in the Catholic World Report that “much of Australia seems to have held on rather tightly to its suspicion, dislike, and even hatred of the Catholic Church.” Olson quotes one of his Aussie correspondents. “The Australian leftist establishment hates him, the gay lobby hates him, the atheists, liberal Catholics and feminist ideologues hold him in contempt and he has taken on the Italian mafia in trying to reform the Vatican finances.”

Triagen begins: Elderly people should be denied intensive care
    Published April 9, 2020 at 10:23 am
People with a “biological” age of more than 80 years and multi-illnesses between 60 and 80 years will now be prioritized away from intensive care. Those who are already cared for at the intensive care unit can have the care interrupted. This is stated in a document from Karolinska University Hospital, reports Aftonbladet.

The document, which was sent to responsible physicians at Karolinska, describes which groups, due to the lack of space, should no longer be prioritized for admission to the intensive care unit.

This applies to people with a “biological age” over 80 years. Others who are sorted out are people over 70 with “significant failure in maximum one organ system” and persons between 60 and 70 with “significant failure in maximum two organ systems”.

Biological age, according to the document, means “differences in the patient’s health, functional level and survival in relation to the average for the patient’s chronological age”. However, a doctor who wants to be anonymous states for Aftonbladet that it is a pure “rubber paragraph” and that in practice it is very difficult to assess a person’s “biological age”. However, according to the guidelines of the National Board of Health, account must not be taken of chronological (ie real) age.

The document also states that ongoing intensive care can be interrupted for “patients where it is subsequently identified that the patient does not meet the above criteria”.

According to the Swedish Intensive Care Register,

about 469 patients were covid-19 in Sweden at 12 o’clock on Wednesday. At a press conference on Tuesday, the National Board of Health stated that 80 percent of the IVA sites in Sweden were occupied.
