Gates of Vienna News Feed 2/12/2020

The Chinese government revised its method for tallying cases of the Wuhan Coronavirus, raising the number of deaths above 1,300, with a total of confirmed cases now exceeding 60,000. Meanwhile, a second confirmed case of the coronavirus has appeared in San Diego, this time at a Marine base.

In other news, the Italian senate has voted to lift former Interior Minister Matteo Salvini’s parliamentary immunity, clearing the way for his prosecution on charges that as interior minister last year he interfered with the docking of a migrant “rescue” ship at an Italian port.

“The Silence Was Deafening”: Trump Jr. Rages at Media Ignoring Attempted Terror Attack on Trump Supporters

Donald Trump Jnr. said the “silence was deafening” after a leftist attempted to run over Trump supporters during a voter registration event in Jacksonville as he slammed the media for barely covering the story.

27-year-old Gregory Timm drove his van into a pro-Trump Republican voter registration drive tent at a Walmart on Saturday and was subsequently seen smiling during a court appearance.

According to the police report, Timm made videos both before and during the attempted attack. He later told authorities that he hated Trump and that “someone had to take a stand.”

Health Experts Warn Congress Coronavirus May Hit US Hard in Next Two to Four Weeks

Leading health officials expect to see a significant uptick in coronavirus cases nationwide.

“We’re going to start to see those outbreaks emerge sometime in the next two to four weeks,” said Scott Gottlieb, former Food and Drug Administration commissioner. “We should be leaning in very aggressively to try to broaden diagnostic screening right now, particularly in communities where there is a lot of immigration where these efforts could emerge to identify them early enough that they’ll be small enough that we can intervene to prevent — prevent more epidemic spread in this country.”

Gottlieb, one of five panelists who briefed the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on Wednesday, said although U.S. customs officials blocked some travel and are screening travelers returning from the Chinese city of Wuhan, where the virus is believed to have originated, they could not have stopped every person with coronavirus from getting into the United States.

Huge Red Star Might Explode Soon and Next Few Weeks Are Critical

Supergiant star Betelgeuse has been getting dimmer at an unprecedented pace over the past few months, leading some astronomers to wonder if it might be in the process of the collapse that precedes a supernova explosion. But there are other possible explanations, and we should have a better idea of what’s happening to the massive star by the end of the month.

Veteran Villanova University astronomer Edward Guinan has been watching Betelgeuse for decades and reported earlier this month that the star appears to be “the least luminous and coolest yet measured from our 25 years of photometry.”

Labeling Mix-Up Led to Coronavirus Patient’s Accidental Release, Officials Say

A labeling issue is to blame for the accidental release of a coronavirus patient who was on her way back to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar to join other quarantined evacuees when officials found out her test was positive, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said.

The woman, who has not been identified, was one of four individuals who was transported from the base to UC San Diego Medical Center for observation after developing possible symptoms of coronavirus. Initially, officials said that all four individuals tested negative for the illness, however, the woman’s sample wasn’t included in the initial test batch.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., has won the New Hampshire primary, Fox News projects, catapulting the 78-year-old self-described democratic socialist to the front of the still-crowded Democratic presidential primary field.

Sanders had been leading top rival Pete Buttigieg and several other candidates as results came in throughout the evening, though only by a fraction of his 22-point margin of victory over Hillary Clinton in the 2016 New Hampshire primary. Trump Doubles Obama’s 2012 Vote Total in New Hampshire, Signaling Fired Up Base

President Trump didn’t have a serious challenger in the New Hampshire primary, but he still turned out enough voters to more than double former President Barack Obama’s 2012 vote total in the state, indicating that the Republican base is all-in on Trump as he prepares to face the eventual Democratic nominee in a reelection battle this November.

With 87 percent of precincts reporting, Trump secured more than 120,000 votes in the Granite State. In 2012, Obama managed just 49,080 total votes in New Hampshire. The gap between the two presidents is likely to increase as more precincts report their totals Wednesday.

It also dwarfs the total of other incumbent presidents: then-President George W. Bush received 53,962 votes in the largely-uncontested GOP primary in New Hampshire in 2004. And in 1996, incumbent President Bill Clinton received 76,797 votes in New Hampshire’s primary.

Suffering Repeated Attacks by Convicted Terrorists, Britain Strengthens Laws

After two recent attacks by released terrorists, Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s government is moving to strengthen detention policies for convicted terrorists.

The reforms would end the automatic release of convicted terrorists at the halfway point of their custodial sentences. Convicted terrorists would instead have to be approved for early release by a parole board. The hope is that this reform will reduce the risk of reoffending and better protect the public.

Still, there’s a major political effort to get this legislation passed quickly.

2 Russians Escape Coronavirus Quarantine; 1 Jumped Out Window

Two women being quarantined in Russian hospitals amid the coronavirus outbreak escaped after complaining of dire conditions upon their return from China, where the virus originated and has killed more than 1,100 people and sickened more than 45,000 others.

One patient jumped out of a hospital window and another disabled an electronic lock in order to flee their isolation. Both had complained of uncooperative doctors, lax protocol and poor conditions, and feared they would become infected.

Russia has only two confirmed cases of the virus, but authorities have taken measures to prevent its spread by hospitalizing people returning from China as a precaution. Both women were quarantined after returning from Hainan, a tropical region in China.

Coronavirus: Death of Dr. Li Wenliang Rocks China

On hearing the news that Dr. Li Wenliang had died from the coronavirus on January 31, people in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, under strict quarantine, opened their windows and cried. Grief and anger, expressed from China’s streets and balconies and social media platforms, has reached almost unprecedented levels in recent days.

Li, reprimanded with seven other doctors for warning of the outbreak in December, was accused of “spreading false rumors” and “disrupting social order” and, for his brave efforts, was briefly detained, interrogated, and forced to sign an “admonishment notice.” Li undoubtedly contracted the virus treating patients at Wuhan Central Hospital.

Coronavirus Cases Spike Significantly as Chinese Officials Adopt New Counting Standards

The death toll from the coronavirus in mainland China spiked 23 percent Wednesday amid new counting methods adopted by Chinese health officials, who eased their criteria for confirmed cases.

Deaths rose by 252, to a total of 1,367 worldwide. All but two of those deaths have been recorded in China. Meanwhile, the total number of confirmed cases spiked to 60,286 — an increase of over 15,000 from the previous day.

Only 14 cases have been confirmed in the U.S. thus far.

The spikes overseas are at least partly due to new counting standards implemented by China, which reported Wednesday that it is tallying infections differently. The nation previously only counted a coronavirus case as confirmed when a person tested positively for the virus, but that thinking has been revised, China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency said Wednesday night.

Scientists Discover Coronavirus Has an Incubation Period of Up to 24 Days and Can Survive for 9 Days on a Smooth Surface

The more we learn about this mysterious new coronavirus, the more alarming this outbreak becomes. When the virus first began to spread, authorities insisted that it was very unlikely that human to human transmission was taking place. Of course we soon found out that this virus spreads from person to person incredibly easily. Initially we were also told that we shouldn’t be afraid to touch a surface that an infected person may have touched because the virus cannot be spread in that manner. But as you will see below, scientists have now discovered that the virus can actually live for quite a few days on a smooth surface. Based on what we now know, this outbreak is going to be exceedingly difficult to contain, and that has very serious implications for all of us.

The Majority of Coronavirus Victims Are Men, And the Virus is Hitting Adults Far Harder Than it is Hitting Children

This coronavirus outbreak just keeps getting weirder. With each passing day the number of confirmed cases and the number of deaths continue to rise, but not all demographic groups are being affected equally. That seems very odd, but it may also give researchers important clues about how to fight this very deadly virus. On Tuesday, global health officials finally gave this mysterious new coronavirus an official name. From now on they will be calling it “COVID-19”, but I doubt that moniker will really catch on with the general public. In any event, what everybody can agree on is the fact that this disease has the potential to rapidly spread all over the planet, and let us hope that the extreme measures that are being taken to prevent it from getting out of control will be enough.

One of the things that we have just learned about this virus is that it does not seem to affect men and women equally.

According to two different studies, it appears that men are significantly more likely to get infected than women are…

Matteo Salvini Will Stand Trial in Italy Migrant Ship Case

(Bloomberg) — Matteo Salvini will face trial for stopping migrants from landing in Italy, gifting the former deputy prime minister with a public platform for his anti-refugee policy after recent setbacks.

The opposition leader has built his political fortunes mostly by tapping fears of unbridled immigration. While the case may go on for years in Italy’s plodding court system and could undermine his bid for power, Salvini instructed lawmakers from his League party not to oppose the trial, in order to allow him to defend his actions.

Last July, as interior minister, he blocked a ship carrying rescued migrants from docking in a Sicilian port. Prosecutors charged him with kidnapping. Salvini says he was just applying government policy.

SAS Commercial: There is No Such Thing as Scandinavian Culture

SAS, the leading airline of Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, is in hot water over its new commercial that people are calling globalist and multiculturalist propaganda.

Following the debacle, SAS quietly removed the contentious ad, which declared the entire Scandinavian culture borrowed and featured a black man saying he is no better than his “Viking ancestors”.

The ad published on Monday starts with a punchline that nothing is “truly Scandinavian” before it goes down the list of things that people in Sweden, Norway and Denmark take pride of — wind power plants, the popularity of bicycles, parental care rights and democracy — and declares them “copied”.

  1. Coronavirus prankster faces five-years’ jail for Moscow metro stunt
    =========
    There are curious nuances:
the “prankster” is a Tajik migrant; his accomplice is illegal from Kyrgyzstan. The rest are also Asians with Russian citizenship.

A Tajik relative is some kind of Islamist who sympathizes with Wahhabis. So this is not just a joke. It looks like a planned panic attack.

  2. It is time the world faced up to the fact that we are in a global Social War for survival. The Globalists are simply Communists with money-too much. Nullus avaritia sine poene est! A true description of what we face…No greed without punishment. Christianity and Europeans are being deliberately eradicated-wiped out by people that have already butchered close on 250,000.000s since World War One. Who gave this “elite” the right to play God?

Most are Satanists into all kinds of perversion and filth and weird think. Now thanks to their arrogance and stupidity we have a global Pandemic in the wings that threatens to wipe out another 1.2 to 1.8 billions. Trudeau in Canada comes to mind as a typical “Globalist” as does Macron. These people want the nations and their successful peoples exterminated and national IQs replaced by new imported populations with average IQs of around 68%, that they hope will serve them in their gated communities as the new gods. In Psychiatry an IQ of 70% is regarded as subnormal and disabled…

Such personalities are incapable of higher thought and too easily conditioned to violence and suggestibility. Trudeau and his ilk are guilty of the worst crime in history-deliberate and intentional mass extermination of White nations and their people of around 800,000,000s. Hold that figure in your mind for a second or two.

This is their goal-your death and mine. Yet they have the gall to criticise Hitler? Hitler too was another Bolshevik like Macron and Trudeau, who has openly stated that he intends to wipe out Canadians of European ancestry? Why do they keep voting for this criminal – a self confessed intended mass murderer?

If people are offended by the truth then please be my guest? You offend me and mine and I am your enemy forever. My ancestors fought two massive wars to keep us free and now we have to pay for our own destruction and even smile and celebrate?Absolutely evil.

  3. Hungarian Foreign Minister Warns UN’s Push for Mass Migration Threatens “Whole of Humanity”.

How right he is. The UN has been dishonestly plugging upbeat propaganda to support its sinister plan:

    Migration is Inevitable
    Migration is Necessary
    Migration is Desirable

    All lies.

  4. Re: “Huge Red Star might explode Soon”: Those fiendish Commies, now they’re suicide bombing!

  5. This Clown World is the [offensive sustance]! W000hoo! Bwahaha! Stupid human earth monkeys and their glorious utopia crack pipe dreams. Mother Nature has the last laugh as usual.
