Astros’ Jeff Luhnow, AJ Hinch Fired for Sign Stealing

Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow and manager AJ Hinch were fired by owner Jim Crane on Monday after Major League Baseball’s announcement of discipline following the sign-stealing scandal.

A league investigation confirmed the Astros had cheated by using a camera-based sign-stealing system during the regular season and playoffs of their World Series-winning 2017 season and during part of the 2018 regular season.

Luhnow and Hinch were suspended for the 2020 season, but Crane said the team wanted to go beyond that ruling.

“Neither one of them started this, but neither one of them did anything about it,” Crane said.

He added: “We need to move forward with a clean slate.”

Crane said that he did not think the Astros’ World Series title in 2017 was “tainted.”

As part of the league’s penalty, the Astros will also lose first— and second-round draft picks in 2020 and 2021, and the organization was fined a record $5 million. MLB said in its statement that if Luhnow or Hinch “engage in any future material violations” of MLB rules, they will be placed on the league’s permanently ineligible list.

Reports: Harry and Meghan Want to Move to LA — Once Trump is Out of Office

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, are reportedly planning a move to Los Angeles, California — once President Donald Trump is out of the White House.

The British royal and the American former actress caused consternation in the United Kingdom by announcing, reportedly without giving the Queen or other senior royals more than a few minutes’ notice, that they will be walking away from many of their public duties in order to make money as something of a celebrity “power couple”.

Part of the change was to involve a move to “North America”, according to their announcent. This was initially interpreted as a reference to Canada, where Elizabeth II is still Queen and Harry still a senior royal, as Meghan has already travelled there with the couple’s son.

“Iran Must Begin Acting Like a Normal Nation, “ Says Totally Normal Nation

The government which runs a globe-spanning empire led by a reality TV host keeps talking about the lack of normality in the nation of Iran.

“What we want all countries to join in,” said State Department Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus in a recent Fox News interview, “is to help us not only to de-escalate any tensions with Iran, but to help us bring Iran to a place where they are ready to stop their terrorist and malign behavior, and where they are ready to discuss with the United States, with Europe, with everyone, about how they can change their behavior to act like a normal nation.”

“We want Iran to simply behave like a normal nation,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a press statement the other day. “We believe that the sanctions we imposed today further that strategic objective.”

These would be the additional sanctions which have been expanded to include virtually the entire Iranian economy, deliberately targeting Iran’s already sanction-starved populace, with the explicit goal of fomenting a civil war in that nation.

Which is of course a perfectly normal thing to do, from a perfectly normal nation.

This would be the same Iran whose cultural heritage sites were threatened with destruction if it retaliated for the totally normal assassination of its top military official via flying robot. The same Iran whose financial system was just threatened with destruction using the totally normal hegemony of American central banking. Perfectly normal, perfectly healthy.

So what can Iran do to become a “normal nation”? Well, since it’s the United States making this demand, we can safely assume that it’s the model Iran should look to…

[Comment: Even if you don’t agree with Ms. Johnstone first eight words, that the U.S. is an empire, the rest of her post punchily exposes the absurdity of America’s conduct and its demand on Iran.]

Fishy Findings: 100% Replication Failures

Science proves… Science says… Research shows…

Every week, the above phrases are employed by TV personalities, newspaper journalists, coworkers, friends, and family. When these phrases are uttered, certain ideas get elevated above the fray, enthroned on a pedestal.

Science has spoken. Who are you to be arguing with SCIENCE?

The problem, of course, is that scientific research is conducted by human beings. Who not only make mistakes, but are susceptible to peer pressure, groupthink, intellectual fads, and noble cause corruption.

The fallibility of ‘science’ is splendidly illustrated by a paper published last week in Nature. It concludes that not one, not two, but eight previously published studies about how climate change affects the behavior of coral reef fish are unsound.

When the second team of researchers conducted the same experiments, the results were startlingly different.

  1. Chronicles of ethno-genocide.
    ====================
Enterprises that employ migrants have been proposed to be exempted from planned inspections. Such a bill is planned to be submitted to parliament next fall. The Cabinet believes that the innovation will contribute to the economic growth of the country.

    Russian employment will be disadvantageous.

    https://www.interfax.ru/russia/691061

  2. “Germany: Video: Muslims Attack Transgender for Harassing Woman Wearing Hijab” That sounds surreal enough to be a wet dream of those extreme conservatives who refuse facts just as much as the lefties, haha.

  3. “Trudeau Blames ‘Escalation’ In Iran for Deaths of Canadians” From the names of the victims it sounded more like they were leaving home to visit Canada, than the other way around. That doesn’t make it any less tragic. It’s just that there’s a difference between a Canadian and someone with a citizenship.

  4. Regarding the muslim men in Berlin who attacked a male in drag who had been harrassing a hijabbed muslima, one can at least respect the fact that muslim men defend their women against outsiders; at least when they are not busy molesting them themselves. I would wager that none of them will be prosecuted for beating the gender-confused male. German prosecutors, while willfully stupid in a general sense, seem to have the wits to know what will happen to them if they attempt to play their games with the followers of the religion of peace.

It is a sad commentary on western males that muslim males stand up for their own kind and are not afraid to deliver a well deserved beating to someone harrassing one of their own.

  5. Today’s Europe is truly surrealistic and leaves anything from the sixties or seventies in the dust. No joke about the “dust” bit. All those Leftyover dreams and nightmares, should end horribly – I imagine. What was given away with some good intention I also imagine will have to be corrected – somehow. Sooner rather than later.

  6. Here I came across two articles about one incident in Swedish.
    I have difficulty translating.
Correct me if I am wrong, but in no article does it indicate who killed young Karl?

According to others, the link only says that the case was in Uppsala, and “Sweden is no more”, from which we can indirectly draw the appropriate conclusions.
