Gates of Vienna News Feed 12/11/2019

The two shooters at who killed four people (including three at a kosher grocery) in Jersey City yesterday have been identified as David Anderson and Francine Graham. Mr. Anderson is alleged to have had a connection to the Black Hebrew Israelite movement, the same group that taunted white Covington Catholic High School Students at the Lincoln Memorial last winter.

In other news, on the eve of the general election in the UK, the gap between the Tories and Labour has narrowed to 9% in the latest polls.

$1.3 Billion in Unreported Foreign Donations to U.S. Universities

A U.S. Education Department investigation has initially revealed $1.3 billion in unreported donations to U.S. universities from foreign countries such as China, Russia, and Qatar.

The department says the unreported foreign funds discovered thus far are only a small portion of the donations from foreign countries that are pouring into U.S. campuses.

“We’re going to continue to raise the flag on this, and we think, just given what we’ve seen scratching the surface, there’s a lot there that has gone undetected,” said Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, according to a report at the Washington Examiner.

Chicago, Detroit “Least-Prepared” For a Recession, Says New Moody’s Report

Authored by Ted Dabrowski and John Klingner via Wirepoints.org

Moody’s says 23 of the nation’s 25 largest cities are ready for a recession. Two aren’t. They are Detroit and Chicago. Both cities are junk-rated by Moody’s.

Moody’s analyzed four key factors to determine which cities are ready for a recession: fiscal volatility, reserve coverage, financial flexibility and pension risk. The top cities in preparedness were Boston, Charlotte, Denver, San Antonio, San Francisco and Seattle. They scored “stronger” in Moody’s recession preparedness measure, while Chicago and Detroit scored “weaker.”

Moody’s message should be particularly worrisome given that the city’s firefighter pensions are just 18 percent funded, while the police and municipal funds are less than 25 percent funded. They are among the worst-funded pension plans in the country.

Georgia Woman Pleads Guilty to Conspiring to Support ISIS

An Augusta-area woman has pleaded guilty to conspiring to provide material support and resources to ISIS and will face up to five years in prison and $250,000 in fines when she is sentenced Feb. 5, federal court records show.

The Justice Department announced Kim Anh Vo’s arrest in March, saying she was apprehended in Hephzibah, which sits about 14 miles southwest of Augusta.

Gunman in Jersey City Shooting Published Anti-Semitic, Anti-Police Material Online

Update: The New York Times reports that one of the suspects who carried out yesterday’s shooting at a kosher grocery in Jersey City had published anti-police and anti-semitic material online.

A suspect involved in a prolonged firefight in Jersey City, N.J., that left six people dead, including one police officer, had published anti-Semitic and anti-police posts online and investigators believe the attack was motivated by those sentiments, a law enforcement official familiar with the case said on Wednesday.

The suspects have not yet been identified, and the only victim who has been identified is Detective Seals. The NYT suggests that the attack might have been planned to terrorize a burgeoning community of ultra-orthodox Jews.

Harvey Weinstein Reaches $47 Million Settlement, Wiping the Civil Slate Clean

Money talks and sexual predators walk.

That appears to be the anticlimatic end of the #MeToo story arc, which started with Harvey Weinstein, and is set to conclude with a multi-million cash settlement ending effectively all civil cases against the former Hollywood mogul.

According to the WSJ, Harvey Weinstein, his former associates, insurers and accusers have all reached a nearly $47 million tentative settlement of virtually all the civil cases pending against him, about $25 million of which will compensate women who have accused the Hollywood producer of sexual misconduct.

Millions of US College Students Still Denied Free Speech Rights

Matt C. Pinsker, a constitutional law professor at Virginia Commonwealth University and an attorney, told The Epoch Times that the First Amendment has “increasingly come under attack on college campuses.”

“The reality is that no one has ever been in danger and these speech codes are really a way to limit the expression of ideas which conflict with leftist political agendas,” he said. “It is putting feelings ahead of facts.”

“While the trend lately has been getting worse, where this is going is either it will blow back on universities and reverse itself, or this will become new normal.”

Mockingbirds of the Deep State

by Diana West

[…]

I was particularly struck by this terrifying mechanism of public control while listening to an interview with Russian-born Svetlana Lokhova, a British espionage historian. She’s currently suing FBI/CIA informant Stefan Halper and the parent companies of The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and MSNBC for more than $25 million in punitive damages for their defamation of her good name in a series of baseless reports, seeded by Halper, the FBI, and others, that accused her of seducing Flynn on behalf of Russian intelligence. To call this a reckless disregard for the truth is gross understatement. It’s the weaponization of “intelligence” in the form of “free press”-disseminated disinformation.

Richardson Man Who Called for Slaughter of ‘Infidels’ In Name of ISIS Gets 30 Years in Prison

As a result, the 43-year-old Richardson man will spend the next 30 years in a federal prison for trying to recruit ISIS fighters on a social media app called Zello.

On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Jane Boyle read Rahim’s own words to him before she sentenced him in a courtroom in Dallas in the terrorism case. Among the words Rahim used that she read were, “Kill them and do not show them compassion or mercy.”

10 Paris Metro Lines to Close: How the Strikes Will Hit Transport in France on Thursday

As French mass strike action reaches the one-week mark, unions prepare for another ‘day of protest’ — here’s what is happening on the roads and railways and in the air.

It was hoped that a major announcement by the French government on Wednesday on the full details of its controversial pension proposals would calm the anger of striking unions.

Judging by the reaction from unions on Wednesday evening — calling for ‘reinforcements’ of the strike action — that might have been a touch optimistic.

Instead unlimited transport strikes will enter their eighth day on Thursday and there will be more one-day walk-outs and protests.

France Raises Retirement Age, Offers Concessions for ‘Fairer’ System as Pension-Reform Protests Drag on

France’s prime minister announced a pension overhaul on Wednesday that would increase the retirement age for the country’s youngest citizens, as strikes pressed on throughout the country for the seventh day.

Prime Minister Édouard Philippe said the reforms are necessary to create a “fairer” system that “will be the same for everybody.” The government has said the current complex pension system is unsustainable.

The plan was announced one day after more than 300,000 people protested across the country, causing a logjam of some 285 miles of traffic in Paris. All metro lines except two were closed and many train routes were canceled as unions voiced frustration with French President Emmanuel Macron, whom they accuse of forming policies that favor the wealthy.

UK: Delingpole: Boris’s Conservatives May be Disappointing; But Corbyn’s Labour Are Totalitarian Monsters

[…]

Undoubtedly the worst political development in Britain during my lifetime has been the adoption, by supporters of Her Majesty’s Opposition party, of the kind of tactics most of us had hoped had been consigned to the dustbin of history: physical threats; anti-Semitism; violent mobs; orchestrated bullying.

The two most apposite recent comparisons are the Bolshevik takeover of Russia in 1917; and the Nazi takeover of Germany in the 1930s. Both were minority movements which managed to punch far above their weight with their aggression, their cynicism, their mendacity, their willingness to abuse every structural process for their greater goal of seizing power.

When Boris Johnson’s Conservatives win, as I hope and expect they will this Thursday, I don’t expect many of us who believe in limited government and free markets will have an awful lot to cheer. But we will, at least, have occasion to breathe a huge sigh of relief.

The electorate will have stared into the abyss, seen Magic Grandpa staring back at them wearing a cap just like Lenin’s, and said to themselves: “Anything is better than that.”

And they’ll have been right too. Corbyn’s Labour are totalitarian monsters. We’ve spent most of the last century standing up to such evil. Why on earth would we want to let such scumbags in through the back door?

New Species of Ancient Whale Offers Clues on How Whales Evolved to Swim

Scientists have discovered an entirely new species of ancient whale that existed 35 million years ago—and it could provide clues to how whales today evolved to swim.

It is the youngest known example of a group called the protocetids from the Eocene epoch. These are early whales and the precursors to today’s cetaceans, but unlike those around today, protocetids were only partially aquatic.

Europe No Longer Hides Its Hostility to Israel

The European Union has, over the years, become increasingly hostile towards Israel. That attitude was confirmed in early November when the Court of Justice of the European Union ruled that food products made in the so-called settlements of East Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Golan Heights must be labeled as such and may not carry the generic label “Made in Israel.”

As rightly argued by the strategic studies expert Soeren Kern, there are many territorial conflicts all over the world, but the European Court singles out only Israel. Examples of the EU’s bias against Israel are numerous, particularly compared to the United States.

Open-Borders Boston: Blood on Their Hands

Here is a chilling case of sanctuary chickens coming home to roost.

Upon being convicted of armed robbery, kidnapping, home invasion and the brutal murders of two doctors on Tuesday, African criminal Bampumim Teixeira taunted the Massachusetts prosecutor who won the case and vowed to rape his wife. “You better hope I don’t get out of jail,” Teixeira threatened as he was dragged away in handcuffs by a quartet of court security officers. The killer appeared to greatly enjoy the media spectacle while striking fear into the hearts of innocents. He will be sentenced on Friday.

I am outraged on behalf of the victims’ families and pray for the prosecutor’s loved ones. But let’s be clear: This homicidal beast is a beneficiary of liberal Bay State policies that coddle foreign evildoers and give them cover to wreak havoc in our homeland. The architects of open-borders Boston have blood on their hands.

Teixeira was a repeat offender well-known to law enforcement and government officials before he sneaked into the South Boston condo of Richard Field and Lina Bolano in 2017, bound and gagged them, slit their throats and stabbed them to death. A homeless vagrant from Guinea-Bissau in West Africa, Teixeira had been convicted of two bank robberies and was released from prison just weeks before the massacre at Field and Bolano’s condo. This thieving bum’s lawyer secured a deal with the Suffolk County district attorney’s office to sentence him to 364 days for the second heist and downgraded the second felony crime to larceny.

  1. People still watch tube? Why fraternize with the enemy? All of social media and the dullard whiny screeching mean girl/manbuns consider it their club and they don’t want anyone who thinks outside the hivemind.
Free thinkers are dangerous to groupthink drones who think that they live in some utopia.
People who aren’t awake by now never will be and the true believers exist in a bubble of delusion that cannot be penetrated by facts, science, history, or truth.
