Stop seizures, fines, limitations say protesters

Pope Francis, ‘The Song of Roland’ And Imam Al-Tayeb

Two recent incidents in the same week highlighted Pope Francis’s upside-down vision about a religion.

Recalling a scene from the famous 11th-century poem “The Song of Roland”, in which Christians in Spain threatened Muslims “to choose between baptism or death”, Pope Francis recently said, “We must beware of fundamentalist groups; each (religion) has their own. Fundamentalism is a plague and all religions have some fundamentalist first cousin”. A few days before that, Pope Francis receivedthe Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed Al-Tayeb.

In the first incident, the head of the Catholic Church criticized Christians for converting Muslims ten centuries ago, and implied that every religion has its own faults. In the second incident, the Pope met a religious leader who still threatens death to Muslims who convert to Christianity. “Apostasy is a crime,” Imam Al-Tayeb has explained; “an apostate should be asked to repent, and if he does not he should be killed”. At least the Egyptian religious leader was up front about it: in the Middle East and North Africa, 14 of the region’s 20 countries criminalize apostasy. In addition, Afghanistan, Iran, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritania, Nigeria, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, United Arab Emirates and Yemen — all Islamic countries — recommend the death penalty for “atheism”. In Algeria, Muslims who convert to Christianity are being persecuted to this day.

UK: ‘He Will Obviously Appear Neutral’ — Boris, Farage Play Down Endorsements Ahead of Trump Visit

Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage have both played down the possibility of election-related remarks from President Donald Trump when he visits the United Kingdom next week for a key NATO summit.

The separate remarks made by the British political leaders this week betray an anxiety born of the disastrous intervention by former U.S. President Barack Obama during the 2016 Brexit referendum, when he said that if the United Kingdom left the European Union it would sent to “the back of the queue” for a trade deal — falsely, as it turned out.

UK: Revealed: Six of London Bridge Terrorist Usman Khan’s Fellow Stock Exchange Bomb Plotters Have Also Been Freed From Prison Since 2012 — and Another Was Freed Only to be Re-Jailed After Plotting a Lee Rigby-Style Attack

Six of the eight terrorist plotters who were jailed along with London Bridge attacker Usman Khan in 2012 have also been freed from prison, it has emerged.

The nine jihadists were members of an al-Qaeda-inspired cell which plotted to blow up the London Stock Exchange and kill Boris Johnson.

One is still in prison, another was convicted for a further terror plot and Khan is dead — leaving six back on the streets, it is believed.

Three of the nine — Khan, Mohammad Shahjahan and Nazam Hussein — were initially handed indefinite prison terms, but the trio won an appeal in 2013 which changed them to fixed sentences.

‘Muslims Must Voluntarily Hand Over the Gyanvapi Mosque and Mathura Complex to Hindus’

Muslims must give Gyanvapi mosque and Mathura Krishna Janmasthan to Hindus: Expert.

Jaideep Shenoy | TNN | Mangaluru | Nov 29, 2019:: Karingamannu Kuzhiyil Muhammed aka KK Muhammed, part of first ASI team that excavated the historical site at Ayodhya averred that the Muslim community should now voluntarily come forward to hand over Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi and Krishna Janmastham Complex in Mathura to Hindus. They missed a (good) opportunity to do so at Ayodhya thanks to the influence that the Marxist historians had on them, Muhammed averred.

In an interaction with Harsha Bhat at a session on ‘Excavating Truth’ at Mangaluru Lit Fest on Friday, said various excavations carried out at Ayodhya by ASI pointed to just one truth that a temple existed there. “When I did state this to the media first, uncharacteristic for government servant to do so, I did bear in mind that an archaeologist is speaking about the issue, and me being a Muslim, I had double the responsibility to speak only the truth,” he said.

“We must strive for united India rather than fight about it,” Muhammed, who retired as regional Director with ASI in 2012, said. Dwelling on his madarasa schooling, Muhammed said his open mindedness that Abubakkar, his Islamic teacher showed in exposing them to Ramayan that helped shape his personality. “Hinduism is a greatly tolerant religion and because India is a Hindu majority country, India remains secular in truest sense of the term,” he said.

Espousing the need for capsuled course on Indian art, culture, architecture, painting as part of Indian education system, Muhammed said a system bereft of these characteristics will not help the youth relate to their own culture. “We need to adopt Indian heroes such as Lord Ram, which Muslim countries have done,” he said, adding it was such references that excavations threw up which tipped Supreme Court in coming out with a ‘fair judgement’ on the case.

Expressing disappointment that the present BJP government had in a way belied expectation that one had about promoting Indian culture, Muhammed said it is imperative to market our heritage. Nepal and Sri Lanka are doing this far better than India with their world heritage sites, he said, adding that India with its Buddhist connections, can have half the world’s Buddhist tourists lining up on Indian shores if it follows Nepal and Sri Lanka’s lead.
