Florida High School Principal Who Refused to Say That the Holocaust Was a ‘Factual Event’ Has Been Fired

In August, there was a serious Florida man story. No, sadly, it had nothing to do with insane drunken escapades of the residents of the Sunshine State. It had to do with a high school principal actually giving a platform to Holocaust denial. No nutty speakers of this sort were invited but he did take the approach of saying that he couldn’t declare that the Holocaust was a factual event.

Anti-Government Protests Escalate in Iraq

Anti-government protesters in Baghdad shut down roads and government offices in the Iraqi capital on Sunday, escalating a month-long string of rallies demanding political change.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators have gathered in recent days in Baghdad’s Tahrir Square and across southern Iraq, shutting down markets, factories, schools and universities in protest of the political system in place since the 2003 U.S.-led invasion that toppled dictator Saddam Hussein.

Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi called for the shuttered places to be reopened, contending that the threat to oil facilities and closure of roads had cost Iraq “millions” of dollars and contributed to consumer price increases in the country.

Competing Protests in Lebanon Bring Thousands on to the Streets

BEIRUT (AP) — Tens of thousands of people held competing rallies in Lebanon Sunday, including thousands who flocked to the presidential palace in support of the country’s president and others who gathered in downtown Beirut as part of ongoing protests that aim to sweep from power Lebanon’s entire political elite.

The leaderless anti-government movement has united Lebanese from various religious sects, who are calling for the overthrow of the political system that has dominated the country since its 1975-1990 civil war. The agreement ending the war distributed power among Christians, Shiites and Sunnis, but led to decades of corruption and economic mismanagement culminating in a severe fiscal crisis.

In Middle East: Pull Down Facades

For the past two weeks or so, the state-controlled media in Tehran have been wondering how to cope with news of popular uprisings in Lebanon and Iraq.

In the first phase, the official line was that the protests reflected anger at poor economic performance and defective public services. The narrative echoed media coverage of last year’s popular protests in Iran itself. It was inconceivable that “the people”, always an abstraction, might not appreciate the blessings of the system, let alone revolt against it.

In the second phase, the protests were portrayed as indicative of the failure of the authorities to respond to popular grievances. In the third and current phase, the uprising was depicted as the result of sinister plots by “enemies of Islam”, including the usual “Zionist” suspects and “agents of the American Great Satan.”

Censorship of Hong Kong’s Protests Has Spread to a UK Cake Contest

A yellow umbrella. A Guy Fawkes mask. A bauhinia flower. These are just a few of the now immediately recognizable symbols of Hong Kong’s months of protests, in which millions have taken to the streets.

Attempts to clamp down on the demonstrators, and their icons, reached risible levels this weekend after an elaborately crafted confection supporting the protests was disqualified from a Cake International decorating competition in Birmingham, England. The creation featured a tiny protester bearing a yellow umbrella and a large confectionary mask. Liquid nitrogen, designed to look like tear gas, swirled from behind the umbrellas.

Australian Raptors Start Fires to Flush Out Prey

Australian Aboriginal lore is replete with references to birds carrying fire, and some traditional ceremonies even depict the behaviour. Now ornithologists have collected accounts from witnesses across the savannas of Australia’s far north, known as the Top End, suggesting three Australian birds of prey species use smouldering branches to spread fires and scare prey into their waiting talons.

Black kites (Milvus migrans), whistling kites (Haliastur sphenurus) and brown falcons (Falco berigora) all regularly congregate near the edges of bushfires, taking advantage of an exodus of small lizards, mammals, birds and insects — but it appears that some may have learnt not only to use fire to their advantage, but also to control it.

  2. The happy ending of the story of Denis Lisov, from whom children were taken from Sweden and placed in a Muslim family.

Read in a google translator about how the Polish authorities committed an unprecedented violation of the law to send Lisov and his daughters to Russia.

… As a result, after long trials, Denis was given freedom, but he was forbidden to take children anywhere, much less to go home to Russia. But in spite of everything, he decided to fly to Moscow. – Of course, we spoke in advance with the police commissioner and with the border guards. They asked to close their eyes for literally two seconds and let the girls slip through the border.

As a result, when the border guard saw absolutely clean passports of the children – they did not have visas or stamps on crossing the borders (they took away the old documents, the Lisovs filled out new documents at the Russian embassy in Warsaw), he simply did not understand what it was. But then the head of the border service ran up and took the family to her office. There they quickly formalized and released from the country. – It’s just unbelievable!
