Gates of Vienna News Feed 11/21/2019

A statue of Polish King Jan III Sobieski that was originally intended to be erected near Vienna has been put on display in Krakow instead. The statue was supposed to go up on the Kahlenberg, the mountain adjacent to Vienna from which the king led the charge that broke the Siege of Vienna in 1683. Unfortunately, the Austrian government decided that it was too controversial for that location.

In other news, the Cypriot coast guard rescued 120 Syrian migrants off the coast of Cyprus.

“He’s an Oligarch in the Classic East European Russian Sense” — Joe diGenova Calls Out Obama-Handler George Soros

We’ve previously reported that Obama’s State and Justice Departments were assisting George Soros in his attempt to control the Ukraine. On Monday Joe diGenova called out George Soros as a Ukrainian oligarch who is anti free speech and attacks those who speak freely about him. George Soros is a major Democrat donor and at the same time connected to numerous actions around the world that are very suspicious, if not corrupt and criminal. At the time of the 2017 Inauguration, we reported that Soros related groups were related to every major protest since the November election.

Soros was interviewed years ago on CBS’s 60 Minutes where he admitted helping Nazi’s during World War II. He helped Nazis steal from Jews during the war. Soros is a Jew. Note that even in this video he parades his activities in the Ukraine.

An appearance by conservative writer Ann Coulter at the University of California at Berkeley drew a crowd of protesters Wednesday night, in the latest episode of “cancel culture” on the nation’s college campuses.

Campus police said on Twitter that “multiple” mask-wearing protesters were arrested.

Covering faces is a violation of campus protest policy, the Bay Area’s FOX 2 reported. The station said as many as seven people were arrested.

Are Journalists Creating Drama So They Can Report it? “Full Measure With Sharyl Attkisson” On the “Unfreedom of the Press”

From “Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson” — Unfreedom of the Press:

Sharyl: You wrote “the American free press has degenerated into a standardless profession, not through government oppression or suppression, but through self-censorship, group think, bias, omission and propaganda.”

Mark Levin: There’s a new doctrine that’s being pushed in journalism school, has been for about 30 years, which is to push what’s called public journalism or community journalism, which is social activism. And so now you have a lot of reporters, Jim Acosta is a perfect example, who create the drama, then report on their own drama that becomes news for five days. President calls that “fake news.” He’s right. There was a professor Boston who used to head the Library of Congress, but he was a historian at the University of Chicago. Wrote a whole book on it, pseudo events. Our news is filled with phony events and filled with propaganda.

Yikes. No wonder I feel like I’m watching Wag The Dog when I try to catch up on current events.

Attorney General William Barr: How ‘The Resistance’ Is Shredding the Rule of Law

One of the ironies of today is that those who oppose this President constantly accuse this Administration of “shredding” constitutional norms and waging a war on the rule of law. When I ask my friends on the other side, what exactly are you referring to? I get vacuous stares, followed by sputtering about the Travel Ban or some such thing. While the President has certainly thrown out the traditional Beltway playbook, he was upfront about that beforehand, and the people voted for him. What I am talking about today are fundamental constitutional precepts. The fact is that this Administration’s policy initiatives and proposed rules, including the Travel Ban, have transgressed neither constitutional, nor traditional, norms, and have been amply supported by the law and patiently litigated through the Court system to vindication.

Indeed, measures undertaken by this Administration seem a bit tame when compared to some of the unprecedented steps taken by the Obama Administration’s aggressive exercises of Executive power — such as, under its DACA program, refusing to enforce broad swathes of immigration law.

The fact of the matter is that, in waging a scorched earth, no-holds-barred war of “Resistance” against this Administration, it is the Left that is engaged in the systematic shredding of norms and the undermining of the rule of law. This highlights a basic disadvantage that conservatives have always had in contesting the political issues of the day. It was adverted to by the old, curmudgeonly Federalist, Fisher Ames, in an essay during the early years of the Republic.

“In any age, the so-called progressives treat politics as their religion. Their holy mission is to use the coercive power of the State to remake man and society in their own image, according to an abstract ideal of perfection. Whatever means they use are therefore justified because, by definition, they are a virtuous people pursing a deific end. They are willing to use any means necessary to gain momentary advantage in achieving their end, regardless of collateral consequences and the systemic implications. They never ask whether the actions they take could be justified as a general rule of conduct, equally applicable to all sides.

“Conservatives, on the other hand, do not seek an earthly paradise. We are interested in preserving over the long run the proper balance of freedom and order necessary for healthy development of natural civil society and individual human flourishing. This means that we naturally test the propriety and wisdom of action under a “rule of law” standard. The essence of this standard is to ask what the overall impact on society over the long run if the action we are taking, or principle we are applying, in a given circumstance was universalized — that is, would it be good for society over the long haul if this was done in all like circumstances?

“For these reasons, conservatives tend to have more scruple over their political tactics and rarely feel that the ends justify the means. And this is as it should be, but there is no getting around the fact that this puts conservatives at a disadvantage when facing progressive holy far, especially when doing so under the weight of a hyper-partisan media. “

California Supreme Court Rejects Law Requiring Trump to Release Tax Returns to Get on Ballot

The California Supreme Court on Thursday struck down a state law that would have required President Trump to release his tax returns in order to appear on the state’s primary ballot.

Justices in Sacramento said that the law — which required all candidates for president and governor to submit five years’ worth of personal income tax returns in order to be included on primary ballots — was unconstitutional.

“Whatever authority the Legislature may have in defining how presidential primaries are to occur in this state, the challenged sections of the act exceed such authority and are unenforceable,” California Supreme Court Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye wrote in the opinion.

Coup Plotters Risk War With Russia

In what was called a “strong message” to President Trump, the House of Representatives earlier this year passed the “NATO Support Act” by a vote of 357 to 22. That’s the template for what follows impeachment — voting Ukraine into NATO, provoking Russia, and sending American soldiers off to fight and die in another corrupt foreign country.

The people testifying against Trump are part of the same group of bureaucratic losers who have mishandled our foreign policy for decades.

Extinction Rebellion Threatens ‘Mass Death’ By Climate Change

Activists from the Extinction Rebellion (XR) environmental group have threatened inevitable “mass death” by climate change as they begin their fourth day of a week-long hunger strike.

On Monday, hunger strikers occupied the office of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi calling for more decisive action on the part of the Democrats to tackle the “climate crisis.”

Activists complained that Pelosi had refused to participate in a filmed interview with movement members.

Instead, Ms. Pelosi issued a statement saying she was “inspired” by young climate activists and insisting that the Democrats were “working relentlessly to safeguard our environment and ensure a healthy, sustainable world for our children.”

The strikes, which began Monday, have been organized in 27 countries, led by 20-year-old Giovanni Tamacas of the University of San Diego.

Nunes Spanks Media for Calling Trump and His Advisers ‘Russian Agents’

U.S. Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., on Tuesday addressed a U.S. House hearing called by Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., to further his impeachment strategy as Democrats prepare for the 2020 presidential election, calling out the U.S. media for being complicit in the political hate campaign against President Trump.

He said the Democrats — and their lackeys in the media — long pushed the now-discredited Russian collusion hoax against President Trump.

“There was no objectivity or fairness in the media’s Russia stories — just a fevered rush to tarnish and remove a president who refuses to pretend that the media are something different than what they really are — puppets of the Democratic Party,” Nunes said in remarks prepared for delivery.

“With their biased misreporting on the Russia hoax, the media lost the confidence of millions of Americans. And because they refused to acknowledge how badly they botched the story, they’ve learned no lessons and simply expect Americans will believe them as they try to stoke yet another partisan frenzy.”

Nunes addressed Americans directly.

“If you watched the impeachment hearings last week, you may have noticed a disconnect between what you actually saw and the mainstream media accounts describing it. What you saw were three diplomats, who dislike the president’s Ukraine policy, discussing second-hand and third-hand conversations about their objections. Meanwhile, they admitted they had not talked to the president about these matters, and they were unable to identify any crime or impeachable offense the president committed,” he said.

The media, however, portrayed the hearings at chock full of “shocking, damning and explosive testimony.”

He singled out CNN, the New York Times, Slate, New York Magazine, the Guardian and Buzzfeed for condemnation.

He said they all — recently — had headlines condemning Trump — that were false.

Supreme Court to Review Lawsuit Pitting Michael Mann Against Free Speech

The Supreme Court on Friday will consider whether to take up a prominent climatologist’s defamation suit against a venerated conservative magazine, in a case that pits climate scientists against the free speech rights of global warming skeptics.

The dispute between scientist Michael Mann and the National Review has drawn attention from lawmakers, interest groups, academics, and media, as the court weighs adding a potentially blockbuster First Amendment showdown to an already politically charged docket.

Scientists hail Mann’s lawsuit as a necessary defense against efforts to erode public confidence in the scientific consensus that climate change is an urgent threat, while free speech advocates have rallied around the iconic conservative publication.

The case has made for strange bedfellows, with the National Review receiving backing from the Center for Investigative Reporting, which has produced award-winning coverage of climate change; Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.); The Washington Post; and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

The Hollywood Reporter Says Clint Eastwood’s Latest Slams the Press for Skewering the Olympics Hero Without Evidence.

Timing is everything for living legend Clint Eastwood.

The actor/director served up “American Sniper” after Hollywood stopped firing cinematic shots at the U.S. Military. The results? “Sniper” earned $350 million at the U.S. box office.

Two years later Eastwood directed “Sully,” just when movie goers craved a true American hero story. That movie hauled in $125 million domestically.

He may have topped himself with “Richard Jewell.” The film, out Dec. 13, recalls how the FBI and media unfairly painted the portly security guard as the main suspect in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics bombing. The blast killed one and injured 111 people.

Virginia Goes Blue: Pro-China Communists Claim Credit

It’s official. The once deep-red Commonwealth of Virginia is now a blue state. As a result of the Nov. 5 election, Democrats now hold all three of the statewide constitutional offices, both U.S. Senate seats, the majority of its Congress members, and both chambers of the State House.

Laura Ingraham of Fox News says it’s because of “changing demographics.” That’s only partially true. Virginia went blue because a handful of well-organized pro-Chinese communists made it happen.

The group in question, New Virginia Majority (NVM), has exploited Virginia’s changing population and “liberal bleed out” from the Washington area to flip not just Northern Virginia but also districts across the state. Based in Alexandria and Richmond, NVM has sent hundreds of paid workers and volunteers out across the commonwealth to register and send to the polls hundreds of thousands of new voters—all under the nose of the Virginia Republican Party.

These shootings aren’t being carried out with handguns, but with AK-47s. The weapon so often used as a boogeyman by gun control advocates, but rarely featured in everyday gun violence, is a staple of Sweden’s gang war scene. Along with hand grenades and other explosives rarely seen in America.

It started peacefully, but things quickly got out of hand as the protest apparently got hijacked by a group of demonstrators in black outfits. “It was a real riot. Some scenes resembled urban guerilla warfare,” Julien later recalled.

The rioters were blocking roads, building barricades and throwing bricks and Molotov cocktails at police. Julien remained in the crowd, filming the mayhem around him with a GoPro camera.

At some point, the reporter realized riot police have been whipped into a state of “panic.” They responded with a barrage of tear gas grenades and sting-ball ammunition, fired at the people almost indiscriminately.

UK: BBC’s Election Guide is More Climate Change Claptrap

On Tuesday I reported on the BBC’s misleading and biased ‘what to look out for’ election briefing on LGBT issues.

Today we look at an item called ‘This Matters: Is this the climate election?’ The BBC grandly claims that its series This Matters ‘looks into what’s really going on in this election.’

Great — that sounds like it will have some strong analysis.

The BBC starts by claiming that for a lot of people climate change is the most important issue facing the country. It says: ‘Concern for the environment has gone mainstream.’

The evidence it produces to support this claim? ‘Look at Greta Thunberg . . . She’s a celebrity. She’s friends with Leonardo DiCaprio. And Jane Fonda’s out getting herself arrested at climate protests now!’

UK: Extreme Remainer Party Brands Brexit a ‘National Humiliation’ In Manifesto

The Liberal Democrats have branded the vote to leave the EU, one of the largest expressions of democratic will in British political history, a “national humiliation”.

The Lib Dems vowed in their manifesto published on Wednesday that they “will stop Brexit”, “revoke Article 50”, and force the country to “stay in the European Union” if they gain enough seats in the House of Commons to form a government.

UK: Labour Unveils Retro Class-War Manifesto, Chain Migration, Voting for Children and Foreigners

Socialist Jeremy Corbyn unveiled his “radical”, retro class warfare manifesto that pledged mass renationalisation of utilities, the development of a “humane” immigration system, and plans to extend voting rights to 16-year-olds and foreign nationals.

Speaking from Birmingham City University on Thursday, the Labour leader set out his plans for massive public spending using 1970s-style class war language, pitting the wealthy “them” against the impoverished “us”.

Iranians Grapple With Internet Outages Amid Protests

Iran’s internet is slowly returning after a six-day blackout that left the country with little way of communicating amid widespread demonstrations over rising fuel prices.

Protests erupted across the country after Iran’s government announced Friday that it was going to start rationing gasoline and increase fuel prices by 50 percent. Reports of casualties linked to the government’s crackdown are mixed, but human rights group Amnesty International said Tuesday it believes more than 100 people have been killed during the protests.

At its lowest point, Iran’s connectivity to the outside world fell to 4 percent of ordinary levels, according to the nonprofit group Netblocks, which monitors worldwide internet access.

Boy, 12, Is Youngest Person Convicted in Hong Kong Protests

A boy aged 12 has become the youngest person convicted of an offence connected to Hong Kong’s anti-government protests, local media say.

The child, who cannot be named, was arrested on his way to school the day after a demonstration in October.

He admitted causing criminal damage by spray-painting slogans on a police station and a metro station, and will be sentenced next month.

There have been more than 5,000 arrests since the protests started in June.

China Demands Trump Veto Bills on Hong Kong

China has called on US President Donald Trump to veto legislation aimed at supporting Hong Kong’s pro-democracy protest movement, warning it will retaliate if the Congress-backed bills become law.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang on Thursday said the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act undermined Beijing’s interests in the semi-autonomous territory, which has been rocked by months of anti-government demonstrations.

The act mandates sanctions on Chinese and Hong Kong officials who carry out human rights abuses and requires an annual review of the favourable trade status that Washington grants Hong Kong.

Another bill prohibits export to Hong Kong police of certain non-lethal munitions, including tear gas, pepper spray, rubber bullets, water cannons, stun guns and tasers.

“We urge the US to grasp the situation, stop its wrongdoing before it’s too late, prevent this act from becoming law [and] immediately stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs and China’s internal affairs,” Geng said at a daily news briefing.

“If the US continues to make the wrong moves, China will be taking strong countermeasures for sure,” he added.

Global Protests Reveal Bitcoin’s Limitations

In the face of censorship and isolation from their countries’ financial and communication systems, protesters across the globe are testing out bitcoin and other decentralized technologies — then promptly discovering their limitations.

Take Hong Hong, for example, where protests began six months ago against China’s infringements on civil liberties and ramped up on Monday at Hong Kong Polytechnic University as police detained 1,000 protesters.

The former British colony would seem the perfect test case for an open-access financial system resistant to government interference. But that may not yet bet the case.

Handful of Hong Kong Protesters Surrender as University Siege Staggers on

HONG KONG (Reuters) — At least eight protesters who had been holding out at a trashed Hong Kong university surrendered to police in the early hours of Friday, while others desperately searched for escape routes as riot officers surrounded the campus.

The siege at the Polytechnic University on the Kowloon peninsula appeared to be nearing an end with the number of protesters dwindling to less than 100, days after some of the worst violence since anti-government demonstrations escalated in June.

U.S. Relations With China Were Just Destroyed, And Nothing Will Ever be the Same Again

Our relationship with China just went from bad to worse, and most Americans don’t even realize that we just witnessed one of the most critical foreign policy decisions of this century. The U.S. Senate just unanimously passed the “Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act of 2019”, and the Chinese are absolutely seething with anger. Violent protests have been rocking Hong Kong for months, and the Chinese have repeatedly accused the United States of being behind the protests. Whether that is true or not, the U.S. Senate has openly sided with the protesters by passing this bill, and there is no turning back now.

The protesters in Hong Kong have been waving American flags, singing our national anthem and they have made it exceedingly clear that they want independence from China. And all of us should certainly be able to understand why they would want that, because China is a deeply tyrannical regime. But to the Chinese government, this move by the U.S. Senate is essentially an assault on China itself. They are going to argue that the U.S. is inciting a revolution in Hong Kong, and after what the Senate has just done it will be very difficult to claim that is not true.

The Chinese take matters of internal security very seriously, and the status of Hong Kong is one of those issues that they are super sensitive about. China will never, ever compromise when it comes to Hong Kong, and if the U.S. keeps pushing this issue it could literally take us to the brink of a military conflict.

Cyprus Rescues 120 Syrian Migrants

Nicosia (AFP) — Cyprus authorities have rescued 120 Syrian migrants from a boat adrift off the island’s southeastern coast, police said on Thursday.

They brought the Syrians ashore in the Cape Greco region after their vessel was sighted six nautical miles (11 km) off the east Mediterranean island.

The boat was spotted on Wednesday and the migrants — including 20 children, 14 of them unaccompanied minors, and three women — were taken to a reception centre outside the capital Nicosia.

The migrants told police they had crossed the Syria-Turkey border and the boat sailed from Mersin in Turkey, a route previously used by people smugglers.

GLAAD: Chick-fil-A Cave Not Enough, Must Disavow Itself

One of the nation’s largest gay advocacy organizations is greeting Chick-Fil-A’s divestment from Christian charities like the Salvation Army with tepid praise and further demands, including an “unequivocal” denunciation of the brand’s history and values…

Porn Wars Get Personal in No Nut November

In No Nut November, the question “To fap or not to fap?” has become fraught with legal danger. This whimsical internet challenge has grown in popularity over the years alongside the scientific battle over whether or not pornography can become addictive.

By mid-November, those would-be abstainers who don’t take the challenge seriously likely already failed to remain the “masters of their domain” but the academic war will continue long after the end of the month.

Neuroscientist and sexual psychophysiologist Dr. Nicole Prause is currently facing two defamation lawsuits filed in US courts as a result of this battle. On Twitter, Prause has declared herself to be the victim of multiple SLAPP suits (Strategic Litigation Against Public Participation) after years of ongoing harassment. Prause has also claimed that her anti-porn adversaries have stalked her, threatened to rape her, and engaged in general misogyny including falsely accusing her of being paid by the porn industry.

Professor Who Called for Destruction of White Race Dies From Being Full of Feces

Noel Ignatiev, a Jewish “scholar” who managed to become a professor at Harvard without even having an undergraduate degree, and who made it his life’s work to abolish the White race, died at Banner-University Medical Center Tucson on Saturday, of an intestinal infarction, a life-threatening condition that literally causes you to become “full of your own s**t”:…

At a 1997 conference at UC Berkeley, on “The Making and Unmaking of Whiteness,” Ignatiev argued that “whiteness is not a culture but a privilege and exists for no reason other than to defend it.”

“You’re white,” a New York Times interviewer asked Ignatiev in 1997. “Do you hate your own hide?”

Ignatiev replied; “No, but I want to abolish the privileges of the white skin. The white race is like a private club based on one huge assumption: that all those who look white are, whatever their complaints or reservations, fundamentally loyal to the race. We want to dissolve the club, to explode it.”…

Here’s just just one representative example of Ignatiev’s viceral hatred of the White race, “If you are a white male, you don’t deserve to live. You are a cancer, you’re a disease, white males have never contributed anything positive to the world! They only murder, exploit and oppress non-whites! At least a white woman can have sex with a black man and make a brown baby but what can a white male do? He’s good for nothing. Slavery, genocides against aboriginal peoples and massive land confiscation, the inquisition, the holocaust, white males are all to blame! You maintain your white male privilege only by oppressing, discriminating against and enslaving others!”

12 thoughts on “Gates of Vienna News Feed 11/21/2019

  1. “A statue of Polish King Jan III Sobieski that was originally intended to be erected near Vienna has been put on display in Krakow instead. The statue was supposed to go up on the Kahlenberg, the mountain adjacent to Vienna from which the king led the charge that broke the Siege of Vienna in 1683. Unfortunately, the Austrian government decided that it was too controversial for that location.” That’s a shame. But it also sends a clear message for when Austria comes crawling once more to join V4 (it happened two years ago or so).

  2. “Two Gay Saudi Journalists Flee to Australia After Being Threatened Over Their Relationship at Home — Only to be Detained for Weeks at an Immigration Centre” I don’t see a problem here. It’s not like their sexuality enables them for special treatment (even though I’m aware many homosexuals think that way).

  3. “King Sobieski Monument Erected in Krakow After Vienna Says it’s Too Controversial” one more thing: I haven’t read the full article before my initial comment. The monument looks great! And I like the idea of showing it in several Polish cities and that they want to try to move it to Vienna nonetheless. It’s too bad there’s already this stain of “controversy” though.

  4. Well, probably better the King Sobieski statue is in Poland as it would be defaced in Austria. Austria doesn’t admit how bad things are there, little news comes out. I will make sure I see the statue next time I am in Krakow. Krakow is a lovely old city. Polish people know how to treasure everything they have and look after it. Unlike Australia which is knocking down all it’s cultural heritage as fast as it can count the money, Poland makes sure old buildings are renovated and reoccupied. Their cities are being renewed but unchanged. New buildings are built outside the city centre.

    • Australia has always been a nation of sellouts. Most aussies have no ethics at all. I have lived here all my life and seen everything that actually identified the country and people being sold. There is no such thing as an “aussie” any more. Its dire.

      • I think the author meant to write “Austria”. I wandered around a bit of Australia in the mid-80s, when the overriding ethics seemed to be: “No worries” and “I really hate working”. I had no problem with that. 🙂

  5. Regarding the monument of Polish king Jan III Sobieski initially proposed for Vienna. It is so horribly sad when the nation refuses to accept that they would no longer exist if it were not for such an heroic action. Can we expect France shortly to disown Charles Martel?

  6. Re: “The statue was supposed to go up on the Kahlenberg, the mountain adjacent to Vienna from which the king led the charge that broke the Siege of Vienna in 1683. Unfortunately, the Austrian government decided that it was too controversial for that location.”

Too controversial for whom? Insist that those opposed to the stature go on record using their names, titles/offices held and other identifying information. Whoever made this asinine decision ought to own it in public. And if the Muslims are behind this, then people ought to know that too.

  7. I have been to that mountain many times and Jan Sobieski’s statue would be a great addition. I was living in West Germany when the Russians finally had to leave Vienna. I guess Austria has really gone back to the Nazis. What a shame. Austria and Vienna are(were) two of my favorite places.
