Feds Launch Investigation Into Google’s Secretive “Project Nightingale”

Big Tech can’t seem to go one month without becoming involved in some new data privacy scandal, but this time, Google parent Alphabet has outdone itself.

Yesterday, WSJ broke a story about a deal between Alphabet and Ascension Health System, a Catholic non-profit that operates hospitals and nursing homes in 21 states and Washington DC. Ascension has more than 2,600 facilities, but its data — including critical patient data — is presently spread across 40 data centers in more than a dozen states.

But thanks to a deal between the two organizations that spawned Google’s “Project Nightingale”, all of that data are being moved into Google’s cloud, and Google engineers are working on a system that they say could revolutionize how doctors use patient health data to make diagnoses.

The only problem, is some regulators have expressed concerns that the patient data aren’t being properly protected, or that Google might illegally use the data to hone its ad micro-targeting. The sensitive health data of millions of Americans would be quite a score.

And there’s reason to be suspicious: Without notifying patients or doctors, Ascension recently started sharing personally identifiable information on millions of patients with Google. The data include: patients’ names and dates of birth; lab tests; doctor diagnoses; medication and hospitalization history; and some billing claims and other clinical records.

Now, the Office for Civil Rights in the Department of Health and Human Services is investigating the arrangement to see if “this mass collection of individuals’ medical records to ensure that HIPAA protections were fully implemented.”

Google Fires an Employee for Leaking Documents to the Media and Puts 2 Others on Leave (Goog, Googl)

The representative told Business Insider a second employee placed on leave was suspected of tracking individual calendars of employees on the communications, human resources, and community platforms teams, which Google said made those employees feel unsafe.

In a Twist of Fate, Ant Expert Discovers Distinct New Species in His Own Backyard

Jack Longino is a global ant expert and has traveled the world documenting and discovering ant species. But for his latest discovery, he didn’t need to go any farther than his own backyard. In August 2018, just after dark, Longino caught a glimpse of four ants in his garden that really looked out of place. The next day he dug deeper and found more specimens. They reminded him of species he knew from the tropics or from the deciduous forests of the eastern U.S.

But the surprises didn’t stop there. Longino originally thought the ants had been introduced to the area, possibly through the commercial potting soil, and would be some known species from elsewhere. But a close look in the lab revealed that it was a distinct new species, almost certainly native to the region, with similarities to related species in Arizona. Longino surmised that the ant, which likes warm, moist habitats, has been living underground in Utah’s typically dry climate. More than 150 years of irrigation and introduced forest, however, may have given the ant courage to once again come to the surface. For that reason, he named the new ant Strumigenys ananeotes (Stroom-i-jen-knees ana-knee-oat-tees). The species name ananeotes means “newly emerged.”

Protests Swell in Bolivia as New Interim Leader Challenged

Renewed clashes rocked Bolivia’s capital on Wednesday as the country’s self-declared interim president, a second-tier lawmaker thrust into the post because of a power vacuum, faced challenges to her leadership claim from supporters of ousted Evo Morales.

A day after Jeanine Anez claimed the presidency, violent clashes broke out between rock-throwing Morales’ supporters and police in riot gear, who fired volleys of tear gas to disperse the large crowd of protesters.

Opposition was also building in Congress, where lawmakers loyal to Morales were mounting a challenge to Anez’s legitimacy by trying to hold new sessions that would undermine the basis of her claim to the presidency. The sessions — dismissed as invalid by Anez’s faction — added to the political uncertainty following the exile of Morales, the nation’s first indigenous leader, after nearly 14 years in power.

The Kiev city council decided to rename the street in honor of the press secretary of the battalion named after Dzhokhar Dudaev and the participant of the war in the Donbass Amina Okueva. This was reported on the website of the City Council of Kiev.

Actually, in fact, her name is Natalya Nikiforova, and she is a Jew from Odessa. She has a Chechen background only from the penises of three Chechen husbands

  2. “Jessica Yaniv, a transwoman who rose to infamy after she took a number of immigrant, …” Yaniv clearly isn’t a transwoman, Yaniv is a male sexual predator taking advantage of the SJW transgender hysteria and has to be firmly identified as such by conservatives and anyone not buying into said hysteria. Otherwise more predators are going to take advantage of the situation.
Only someone in the process of sex reassignment should be considered a transwoman or transman, because after the process you’re not able to tell them apart from other women and men even when naked. The only difference is the absence of eggs or sperm, but, let’s face, that’s far from exclusive to transsexuals.
If someone is diagnosed as transsexual and chooses not to transition then they’re still a man or a woman, not a transsexual. On the other hand transgender, in my opinion, is generally an excuse to avoid treatment for underlying mental issues that have nothing to do with sex or gender.

  3. ” …former Maclean’s magazine editor Jessica Allen decided to attack not just Don Cherry, but rather the entire “altar of hockey” which Canada worships, going on to say that the “white boy” hockey players could have used their parents’ money to instead, travel the world.” Yes, waste your money instead of working hard to earn it, sounds like a democrat…

  4. “Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is reconsidering her decision not to run for president again next year. Mrs. Clinton said in an interview that she feels it is her responsibility to retire Donald Trump.”

It’s the only mechanism this thing has at this point to prevent a legitimate arrest and subsequent conviction.

  5. “..Code Brown: California Poo Situation Upgraded to ‘Hot Diarrhea’ Attacks; Urinating in Public OK..” – Sure, the Masters will not miss any single method to make the slaves afraid, anxious, and therefore tame and subdued. Releasing thousands of “mental” patients from the institutions was just a step in this direction. And who will diagnose madness today, when it is normal to believe that there are hundreds of genders, “men”menstruate, “women” have testicles, and Anglo-Saxons of 21st century AD have more tattoos, piercing etc than the Picts in the 1st century BC.

    • Ever since they first came out with those collision-avoidance, automatic-braking systems for automobiles my complaint has been: “but what if I Want to ram something?”

In the Cheremshansky district of Tatarstan, a 29-year-old imam married a 14-year-old girl. This topic on the eve became the subject of discussion of the talk show “Tayanu Noktasy” on the TV channel TNV. Parents of the bride gave their consent to the marriage, but law enforcement agencies had questions.

Now the man is under investigation – he is charged under the article “Sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 16”. If a man is proved guilty, he faces up to 4 years in prison.

I don’t know what they are talking about, it is in Tatar language

  7. What a delusional raging egomaniac that Clinton woman is !

God permits Lucifer to torment the world as the just deserts for the Sin in Eden. I guess Hillary is the American version.

  8. Dear Baron,
I have lost your address. I would like to send a contribution… Paypal didn’t work for me so either I’m mentally deficient or Paypal is.

If you will send address I will send big check.

    • Maria,

I tried to email you a couple of days ago, but it bounced (twice). I’ll try again and see what happens.

Once again, I suggest that you email me, gatesofvienna (at) chromatism (dot) net , and then I can just hit “reply” and see if that works.

      And thank you.

  9. The description of Blanchet’s intervention as “Mocking Wexit” is just inflamatory spin of a frustrated westerner. You can see Blanchet’s entire intervention yourself, say here: https://globalnews.ca/video/6162923/who-am-i-to-give-advice-blanchet-asked-about-albertas-wexit

You will see that he is not mocking wexit. He doesn’t like burning more fossil fuel, and his party won’t SUPPORT the movement if that is the rationale behind wexit. But otherwise he remains extremely low-key:

“Who am I to give advice?
If they were attempting to create a green state in western Canada I might be tempted to help them
If they are trying to create an oil state in western Canada, they cannot expect any help from us
I am not the one that will fight to have a nice, beautiful and united Canada
I am not in a position to tell them what to do or not to do
Through national or international channels we will keep fighting this idea to obsessively extract oil from the ground to burn and make the planet warmer”
