Viktor Orbán in Rome: Forget Migrant Distribution Quotas. We Need Deportation Quotas!

Last Saturday Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán was invited to speak at an annual event hosted by the Fratelli d’Italia (Brothers of Italy) in Rome. If Italians are ever allowed to vote again, the FdI will almost certainly become part of the next governing coalition, along with Matteo Salvini and the Lega.

Mr. Orbán gave a rousing speech that was punctuated about five minutes in by the Italian audience singing a popular political anthem (in Italian) about the Hungarian uprising against the Soviets in 1956. When you watch that part of the excerpt below, you’ll see Giorgia Meloni, the leader of the Fratelli d’Italia, stand up and sing along with everyone else.

Many thanks to CrossWare for the translation, and to Vlad Tepes for the subtitling. The translated lyrics of the Italian song have been inserted at the appropriate point:

Video transcript:

00:32   Good day, distinguished ladies and gentlemen.
00:40   Thank you for the invitation, Madame President,
00:44   and thank you for your interest.
00:48   Your interest
00:52   honors me, and it is also touching.
00:56   You are Italians,
01:00   and I am a Hungarian.
01:04   The population of Italy is six times larger than Hungary’s,
01:08   its territory three and half times [that of Hungary].
01:12   Your gross national product represents
01:16   another category. You have a huge army,
01:20   whereas Hungary’s army is not even worth mentioning.
01:24   Italian is spoken over half the globe,
01:28   whereas Hungarian spoken only by us.
01:32   Under such circumstances, it is such an honor to have your interest!
01:36   … I thought about why you have such a great interest
01:40   in Hungary…
01:48   …I think
01:52   that the interest of the Italians has
01:56   two reasons.
02:00   Everybody who can make sense of a map knows
02:04   that in Europe since 2015 there have been two
02:08   key countries: Italy,
02:12   the gateway on the sea, and Hungary, the gateway on land,
02:16   the gateways into Europe.
02:20   The similarity was probably the object of your interest.
02:24   On the other hand, in Hungary since 2010
02:28   we have created a particular
02:32   state model,
02:36   which immediately came under fire from Brussels,
02:40   from the European Left, and from the American Left,
02:44   via the George Soros-type NGOs. This made
02:48   Hungary into a black sheep,
02:52   which also became of interest to others, and that could perhaps be the second reason
02:56   that today so many of you here are interested in Hungary.
03:00   Before I would tell you my thoughts,
03:04   we must clarify the question:
03:08   Is it possible for an Italian to understand a Hungarian?
03:12   …After all,
03:16   these are two different countries, and we Hungarians,
03:20   we spent close to fifty years under Communist oppression
03:24   and occupation, while you were free.
03:28   I found a couple of reasons why the Italians and Hungarians
03:32   might be able to understand each other. First of all, north of Italy
03:36   is part of Central Europe,
03:40   and once upon a time it was our neighbor.
03:44   And then one of the best-known Italian
03:48   commercial brands, the “Illy coffee,”
03:52   comes from the name “Károly Illy”,
03:56   a Hungarian man’s name. The man who established
04:00   this brand had a Hungarian family name.
04:04   And the Italians wrote the most beautiful song about the 1956 Hungarian Revolution,
04:08   which starts something like this:
04:12   “Avanti ragazzi di buda”
Forward Boys of Budapest

Forward boys from Buda,
Forward boys from Pest,
Students, laborers, workers
The sun does not rise in the East.

We’ve stood watch during the night
The night of a hundred months, maybe more
Dreaming of the glorious October’s dawn,
The dawn of Hungarian youth.

I remember you had a rifle
Bring it to the square, I’m waiting for you,
Hidden among my school books
I’ll also take a gun.

Six days and six nights of glory
This our victory lasted
By the seventh day there arrived
The Russians and their tanks.

The tanks crushed our bones,
No one is going to help us.
The world has been watching
On the edge of our ditch.

Girl, don’t tell my mother
Don’t tell her I’ll die tonight
But tell her I’m going up to the mountains
and I’ll be back in the spring

Comrades, we are doomed
Our revolution is lost
Soon our faces will be covered with bandages
And placed in front of a firing squad

Comrade, the squad advances,
The first and second one have already fallen
Our vacation is over,
The honour of the world has been buried

Comrade, hide the rifle
The fountains will sing once again
And on this day, destroy those archives
So we shall come back from the mountains

Forward boys from Buda,
Forward boys from Pest,
Students, laborers, workers
The sun no longer rises in the East

05:28   So, well…
05:32   such people, who can better sing
05:36   the sadness of another nation
05:40   than the nation itself, must understand us well.
05:44   I would like to add that nowadays the Hungarian soccer team
05:48   is managed by an Italian man:
05:52   Marco Rossi. This gives me a chance that what I will say
05:56   today will be understood by you, and I will be able to answer the questions.
06:00   To sum it up, there is a chance that today
06:04   we will understand each other.
06:08   Dear friends, to understand my thoughts
06:12   you should know the position
06:16   from which I am speaking.
06:20   Since 1984 — I am saying this to the youngsters —
06:24   so since 1984, I have been in politics.
06:28   Between 1984 and 1990
06:32   I organized the anti-communist resistance for students.
06:36   After the first free election
06:40   in 1990…
06:52   This fact, that we were in the anti-communist resistance,
06:56   and we fought for democracy, in Brussels
07:00   does not concern many people when they trying to “educate” us about democracy,
07:04   which they received for free, while we had to fight very hard for it.
07:08   I became a member of parliament in 1990;
07:12   I have been a representative for 30 years now.
07:16   …Four times
07:20   we won and four times we lost elections,
07:24   and my perception about politics was
07:28   that politics is a service and not
07:32   a career, so when I lost I stayed in politics.
07:36   I never joined corporations. I never gave talks for money.
07:40   I have stayed on the job and continued to serve Hungary.
07:44   To understand me, you must know that four times
07:48   I formed a government, the first one when I was 35.
07:52   And since 2010 was successively
07:56   elected three times in a row with a two-thirds super majority.
08:00   I head a government in Hungary where
08:04   there is no requirement for a coalition, and because of that
08:08   the government is unified. It is also good to know,
08:12   it is useful knowledge, that Hungary
08:16   is a structurally conservative country. We are the only
08:20   nation in Europe where since 1990
08:24   every elected parliament served its
08:28   full four-year term. We never had early elections.
08:32   …Today’s Hungarian
08:36   political space —
08:40   if I am to place it in today’s talk, then I must say
08:44   that your Madame President
08:48   would be in the political center, and I would stand a little bit to the right of her.
09:04   I am not a philosopher,
09:08   nor am I a political scientist. When I speak,
09:12   when I speak to you,
09:16   I speak from experience, from
09:20   the perspective of a man of action, not as a scientist, and
09:24   not as an analyst, but I represent the political fighter’s
09:28   position. So…
09:32   So…
09:40   The first part of the question is migration.
09:44   As I see it, in 2015
09:48   an INVASION into Europe began.
09:52   One should have known from the beginning
09:56   that out of ten migrants, nine are
10:00   not refugees, but economic migrants.
10:04   If someone were to say this was unknown at the time, he is not telling the truth!
10:08   This was clearly known, and every European leader knew it, too.
10:12   In 2015 I saw that there are leaders
10:16   in Europe who will ruin
10:20   the European way of life and European culture,
10:24   and through that they will ruin the European economy, too.
10:28   I have always thought
10:32   that the Left has an intellectual concept,
10:36   and they use migration to achieve that concept in reality.
10:40   The Left’s intellectual concept is
10:44   that Europe should leave behind
10:48   the national and Christian era, and Europe should step over
10:52   the threshold to a post-national and post-Christian era.
10:56   And according to the interpretation of the Left,
11:00   to aid this crossing-over
11:04   is the mission of Brussels and the EU.
11:08   Against that, the Right speaks of an alliance of sovereign nations;
11:12   that is the concept opposing the Left. I also have to say —
11:16   based on my experience — that the Left has a vested interest in migration.
11:20   They have interests. First: its serves their ideological
11:24   goals. Then they have a BUSINESS here.
11:28   The leftist lawyers, the sociological
11:32   sector, social workers have their business here,
11:36   who align themselves with the human smugglers, and they build
11:40   an economy that moves a significant quantity of money.
11:44   I know many would accuse me
11:48   of being a conspiracy theorist, but
11:52   I have clearly seen it, and that is my experience, and I can see
11:56   that the Left in reality IMPORTS VOTERS
12:00   when they bring in migrants.
12:04   They want to sooner or later give them citizenship…
12:12   …they will give them citizenship, and the migrants
12:16   will become voting citizens, and these are Muslim
12:20   people, and NEVER VOTE for a party based on Christian roots,
12:24   nor do they ever support such politics. And that will mean that if a lot of migrants
12:28   come to Europe, it will decrease, and
12:32   it will eliminate the chance that in Europe any
12:36   Christian-based political force could gain a majority
12:40   and form a Christian right-wing government. The Left knows this,
12:44   and what it is doing, it is doing for exactly that purpose.
12:48   Respected friends, ladies and gentlemen,
12:52   after 2015 the Right collected itself with great difficulty.
12:56   We began a right-wing
13:00   counter-attack. We stated
13:04   that of course there are crisis regions around the world,
13:08   and there are suffering people,
13:12   but the correct way would be to take the help there,
13:16   instead of bringing the trouble here. And based on this platform —
13:20   to take the help there and not the problem here —
13:24   a few countries
13:28   created a loose alliance with each other.
13:32   These are the V4 countries — which include Hungary —
13:36   Austria, Bavaria,
13:40   and with Salvini, Italy would become such a country, too.
13:44   Since then what happened?
13:48   The Left shot down the Austrian government,
13:52   Bavaria backed out,
13:56   in Italy — if I understand it correctly —
14:00   the government was separated from the people,
14:04   and now they are working
14:08   in the V4 …
14:12   to achieve some kind of change.
14:16   …Our task now is that we are trying to remove
14:20   the freshly-established European Commission
14:24   from Leftist influence, and there is some hope for that.
14:28   Let me phrase it more precisely: there is more of a chance for that
14:32   than we have ever had before. I can see that now a new
14:36   leftist offensive is unfolding.
14:40   There are new leftist politicians appearing who learned nothing.
14:44   My old “colleagues” are returning.
14:48   I have seen Mr. Renzi,
14:52   I can see the designated Italian for the European Commission
14:56   is my former colleague…
15:00   and I can see where the Left is taking back the government.
15:04   Everywhere…
15:08   …everywhere
15:12   the same thing is happening: the Left lets the migrants in and raises
15:16   taxes. We can examine any countries; these two mistakes
15:20   are always made by the Left, with no exceptions.
15:24   They are letting in the migrants and raising taxes.
15:28   They learned nothing from the mistakes of the past,
15:32   They brought up once again the mandatory migrant distribution quota.
15:36   I saw my colleague PM Conte visited you,
15:40   and suggested that you interrogate me about
15:44   why Hungary does not help Italy more
15:48   on the issue of migration.
15:52   I will say here what I already told him:
15:56   Hungary is ready to help Italy in whatever
16:00   way we can. There are areas where we cannot help!
16:04   We cannot help with the transport
16:08   and settlement of any migrants in Hungary. That is impossible!
16:12   But once you decide it, we can help you
16:16   defend your borders, and if you are determined
16:20   to send home the migrants who are already here,
16:24   we can help you with that, too. Mandatory settlement quotas
16:28   we cannot accept, but deportation quotas with pleasure!
16:32   …So if PM Conte
16:36   were to ask the Hungarians
16:40   to send home a couple of thousand migrants from Italy — to where they came from —
16:44   then Hungary will be ready and will help fulfill such obligations.
16:48   Respected ladies and gentlemen, some exciting days lie ahead
16:52   in international politics,
16:56   …We have Austrian elections coming,
17:00   a Polish election coming,
17:04   local government elections coming in Hungary, and
17:08   as for Italy, we await your return to the club. That is
17:12   the situation in the field of international politics for this fall. Respected ladies and gentlemen…

  1. When
I listen to Viktor Orban’s speeches I just want to emigrate to Hungary.

He’s absolutely brimming with commonsense and courage.

Well done Hungary ,no man can be admired as much by sensible people globally.

You can take credit for producing a great man ,a towering intellect and a leader who loves his country and his people and always puts them first.

The world would be a far better place with more men like Orban in it.

  2. Agree 100%. It’s a pity this site does not support up & down votes, you would collect a lot of up votes.

  3. I just love that man , if Europe have leaders like this , all countries will be very happy, all citizens will be very happy, instead of this traitors like Germany, France , Sweden , Britain, Holland , making a nightmare as much as they can to completely destroy Europe, replace own population, very disturbing and dangerous..

  4. How refreshing He is compared to this horror news and brainwashing people very unhealthy way and stressful for me at least, it’s unbelievable..
