Keeping an Eye

I returned a little while ago from the retinologist’s office, where he gave me the latest periodic injection in my left eye, which is being treated for wet macular degeneration.

The good news is that my eyes are doing so well that I don’t have to go in again for three months. Even better: if the condition of my left eye remains stable till then, I may be allowed another hiatus in the ejections. I went almost four years without one in the past (2014-2018), so I remain hopeful.

I’m not back to full functioning yet, so posting will be somewhat light for the rest of the evening. However, I may post a couple of items, and there will be a news feed.

  1. Those injections sound painful. Sometimes I wonder: Would I rather lose an arm, a leg, or my sight. I think I would miss my sight the most. Or my schwanzstucker. Maybe that is a tossup.

I’m happy to hear of your positive results.

    • Or is that negative results? I’m just happy to hear your eyes are good.

Hey, isn’t about time to do that post where you post the punch line and readers try to guess the joke? That was brilliant.

The doctor said you’re going to die. [Snakebite joke]

    • What has helped me very much is the AREDS (Age-Related Eye Disease Study) regimen of vitamins and supplements. I’ve followed the recommendations assiduously for more than six years, and find that my sight has actually improved a little bit, except for the area of the retina in my left eye that is scarred from where the new growth of blood vessels burst through and caused the choroidal pigment to leak.

The doctor said that the AREDS supplements would not improve my vision, just help keep it from getting worse, but experientially, I find that not to be true. The colored flashes and general visual chaos have abated since 2013, for which I am very grateful.
