Case Against Jeffrey Epstein Dismissed Following His Death

NEW YORK, Aug 29 (Reuters) — A federal judge on Thursday formally dismissed the criminal sex trafficking case against financier Jeffrey Epstein in light of his death in jail earlier this month.

U.S. District Judge Richard Berman had said at a hearing on Tuesday that he was legally bound to dismiss the case. Prosecutors said at that hearing that an investigation into Epstein’s alleged crimes would continue, and that the dismissal would not prevent them from charging possible co-conspirators in the future.

Dave Chappelle Goes After Jussie Smollett

Dave Chappelle says some needful things about the Jussie Smollett hoax in one of the best segments of his new Netflix special Sticks & Stones. One comedy writer has ruled the subject out of bounds. Except for a Saturday Night Live sketch last winter, the subject has largely escaped the notice of comics. Why? Smollett’s story is hilarious.

Chappelle derisively refers to the disgraced actor, in a French accent, as “Juicy Smoo-yay”: “You see, Juicy Smoo-yay is gay and he is black. Not just French. Oh, it was a crazy story. . . . Two white men came out of the shadows with MAGA hats on and beat him up.”

Maryland Man Accused of Plotting ISIS-Inspired Terror Attack Near DC is Indicted

A Maryland man accused of plotting an ISIS-inspired terror attack at a tourist site near Washington, D.C., was indicted Wednesday on a terrorism-related charge, the Justice Department announced.

Rondell Henry, 28, of Germantown was indicted on federal charges of attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State and interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle, the DOJ said.

Henry moved to the U.S. from Trinidad and Tobago 11 years ago and is a naturalized citizen.

He is accused of stealing a U-Haul van in Alexandria, Va., and driving it to Maryland, where he intended to use it as a weapon at the National Harbor complex on the Potomac River, according to previously filed court documents.

Tulsi Gabbard Critical of DNC Debate Criteria: Process ‘Lacks Transparency’

Democratic presidential hopeful Tulsi Gabbard appeared on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Wednesday and took on the Democratic National Committee for a “lack of transparency” on qualifying for the next round of debates.

“I think the bigger problem is that the whole process really lacks transparency,” Gabbard told Carlson. “People deserve having that transparency because ultimately it’s the people who will decide who our Democratic nominee will be.

“When you see that lack of transparency,” she said, it creates “a lack of faith and trust in the process.”

Representative Gabbard, D-Hawaii, has hit the donor threshold but in terms of poll thresholds, she fell two short of making the cut for next month’s nationally televised primary debates and likely won’t make the stage.

Complacent No More it’s Time for Germany to Step Up

The days in which Germany can afford to be complacent are over. Europe’s largest economy needs to finally accept that it’s too big and important to simply sit on the sidelines. It needs to invest, innovate — and above all, lead.

A DER SPIEGEL Editorial by Mathieu von Rohr

The days of German complacency were nice, but they’re over. They lasted nearly as long as Angela Merkel’s chancellorship and were defined by a feeling of seemingly endless economic success and a sense of pride over Germany’s role in the world. Indeed, at the World Economic Forum in Davos three years ago, Germany was designated as the “best country in the world.” In Europe, there was talk of the “German model” as something for other countries to emulate. When Donald Trump became president in the U.S., some expected Angela Merkel to take up the torch as leader of the free world. Germany’s economy seemed unshakable, as did Merkel’s role in the world.

Neither is true today. And like everyone else who has had the wool pulled from their eyes, the Germans, too, must confront the truth that they should have seen this coming. The country has become a victim of its own complacency and it has begun to reap what it was sowing all along when it opted to merely coast through an historical anomaly rather than actively shape the future.

Of course, no one knows whether Germany — as many economists fear — will actually soon slide into a recession after 10 years of steady growth. But growth is sputtering and Germany does suddenly look vulnerable. Things don’t look much better on the foreign policy front, either. Germany has become the punching bag of choice for the most powerful person in the world and Donald Trump will likely slap the EU with auto tariffs, which would hurt Germany in particular. In Trump’s eyes, Germany is a selfish country because it has a high export surplus and doesn’t spend enough on defense…

Italy: Govt Born in Brussels to Get Rid of Me — Salvini

Announces day of pride demo Oct 19

(ANSA) — Rome, August 29 — Nationalist League party leader Matteo Salvini said Thursday the likely new government of the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S) and the centre-left Democratic Party (PD) had been “born in Brussels to get rid of that pain in the neck Salvini”.

He added: “Today, coincidentally, the German ex-commissioner Oettinger speaks and says that Brussels is ready to do anything to help this government be born and reward it.

“Those who always called us to order on the Fornero (pension reform) law and the other stuff”. Salvini added that premier-designate Giuseppe Conte “is the first member of the PD”, that “if they change the security and migrant decrees they’ll do Italians wrong”, and that the new government was “one of seats and posts, and I’m not giving up”.

The League will hold a demonstration against the M5S-PD government on October 19, a national “day of pride”, Salvini announced.

“Let’s get ready to be there on October 19. On October 19 I’m thinking of a great day of Italian pride.

“Saturday October 19 will be the day of pride of the hard-working majority, that doesn’t raise hell but which wants a government that isn’t born at night in Paris or Brussels and is rewarded for that”.

There will also be a demo on September 15 at the League’s spiritual home at Pontida, Salvini said.

Salvini added that “the right to vote exists, we’ll start on October 27 (at local elections) in Umbria”.

Italy’s Bitter Political Foes Unite in Bid to Foil Salvini

ROME (AP) — Days after stepping down, Italy’s ex-premier accepted the role of premier-designate on Thursday in a bid to cobble together a new coalition of long-time political foes aimed at blocking a power grab by Matteo Salvini, the right-wing leader whose anti-migrant crackdowns and euroskeptic provocations have dominated Italian politics for more than a year.

But even if Giuseppe Conte, a 55-year-old law professor whose political career spans 14 months at the helm of a mostly squabbling populist coalition, succeeds in building a new majority between the grass-roots 5-Star Movement and the center-left Democratic Party, political analysts warn it may not last.

Off With Her Head? Soros-Funded ‘Best for Britain’ Group Threatens Queen Over Brexit

The EU loyalist Best for Britain group appeared to invoke the fate of the beheaded King Charles I after Queen Elizabeth II agreed to prorogue (temporarily suspend) Parliament for a few weeks before the Brexit deadline.

Following news that the Queen rubber-stamped Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s request to suspend the parliamentary session — the longest-running for almost 400 years — so that his government can bring forward a new legislative programme on October 14th, the George Soros-funded group tweeted that it would “make no sense for the Queen to back this deeply undemocratic, unconstitutional and fundamentally political manoeuvre from the government,” in comments later attributed to its CEO, Naomi Smith.

It’s Not Enough to be Pro-Freedom; We Must Also be Actively Anti-Communist

A recent NBC report criticizing The Epoch Times repeatedly emphasized that the publication is anti-communism, with the clear implication that this stance is anachronistic, paranoid, or unwarranted. Unfortunately, such views are commonplace in today’s West, certainly on the left, but also on much of what is considered the “right.” …

Multiple reputable sources, including the famous “Black Book on Communism,” written mainly by academic ex-communists, assert that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been responsible for at least 65 million deaths during its 70 years of bloody reign. This adds to the full death toll of communism, which the authors show was at least 100 million.

In the first chapter, titled “Introduction: The Crimes of Communism,” academic Stéphane Courtois states that “communist regimes turned mass crime into a full-blown system of government.” By comparison, Nazism, while its crimes were also reprehensible, was “distinctly less murderous than Communism,” with a death toll of 25 million innocents. …

Like all crime, communism is parasitic. It produces nothing of value itself; it must rely on force, propaganda, torture, intimidation, threats, and espionage to survive. Like cancer, communism consumes its host. Except that in communism’s case, it will only die when the whole planet is consumed.

Must we let things get to that point? …

In the 1980s, Reagan avoided war by pushing the Soviet Union into full retreat through massive economic pressure. Had that pressure been maintained until the KGB was completely removed from power, we might now be friends with a free Russia instead of facing the nuclear weapons of a superior neo-Soviet regime now confronting us.

The United States has a similar choice with China. We can make billions trading with China (while gutting our own industrial base), then spend trillions defending ourselves from the monster we created when the inevitable war comes—not to mention the millions of casualties and the very real possibility of defeat and communist occupation of the lower 48 and Hawaii. …

President Richard Nixon and communist China’s “best friend in America,” former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, opened up U.S.—China trade in the 1970s in a grossly misguided attempt to play communist-ruled Beijing against communist-ruled Moscow. That is the moral and practical equivalent of the FBI allying with the Italian Mafia to defeat the Russian mob.

Had the United States and the West economically blockaded Soviet Russia and communist China from the very beginning, both criminal regimes would have collapsed in a relatively short time. Millions of lives would have been saved, and the West could have spent trillions less on defending itself from the monsters they were economically supporting.

  1. “Biden: ‘Xenophobia’ Keeps Japanese Women in Workforce” I don’t understand? The US, UK, Germany, Australia, all have plenty of foreign workers but somehow all their women are kept in the workforce as well. What exactly was Mr. Biden trying to say? Is he slowly suffering from dementia or something?

    • No, dementia would probably only improve his diarrhea of the mouth and random brain droppings.

Never attribute to malice that which can adequately be explained by stupidity – but don’t rule out malice.

  2. “…we might now be friends with a free Russia instead of facing the nuclear weapons of a superior neo-Soviet regime now confronting us.” This sounds so propagandish it makes me laugh. The US doesn’t exactly have a history of making friends, but instead has a long history of invading countries for natural resources and Russia has plenty of those. For better or worse Russia is indeed the only counterbalance to America forcing itself all over the world.

“Had the United States and the West economically blockaded Soviet Russia and communist China from the very beginning, both criminal regimes would have collapsed in a relatively short time. Millions of lives would have been saved, and the West could have spent trillions less on defending itself from the monsters they were economically supporting.” I agree it would’ve been better to step on China’s neck right away, but unfortunately you are either missing or ignoring the origin of the people who initially infiltrated Russia to establish the soviet paradise (and aligning other countries like China), otherwise you would’ve known history had no choice but to go down the route it did.

    • Which people, AK-47?

At least part of the reason why the communist revolutions succeeded in Russia and China, rather than industrialised nations such as Germany and Britain (as Marx expected), was because the peasants in the first two were more oppressed than the industrial workers in the others.

  3. From Der Spiegel: “In the era of Merkel, there hasn’t been a single significant project pursued with passion and conviction over the long-term….”

Go ahead, pull the other one. Frau Merkel has pursued her immigration project since at least 2013, with, it would seem, nothing but passion and conviction, and next to no sense of responsibility for the resulting, counterproductive consequences. Max Weber would have a field day with this dysfunctional politician.

  4. Pelosi’s “squad”, together with Joe Biden’s disdain for the White Man and the burdens he carries, proves the Democrat party belongs in an asylum.

    • It was engineered from Brussels, bribing Salvini’s partner party (far left party) to withdraw it’s support from Salvini’s coalition government. Salvini had no choice but to resign. It’s perverse that the EU has any support at all.
