President Trump Visits That Sceptered Isle…

Long may it reign.

With Winston Churchill’s bust back in the White House, one prays it is not too late to celebrate our friendship.

For our British friends, a favorite quote from Richard II, describing your kingdom:

This royal throne of kings, this sceptered isle, This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars, This other Eden, demi-paradise, This fortress built by Nature for herself Against infection and the hand of war, This happy breed of men, this little world, This precious stone set in the silver sea, Which serves it in the office of a wall Or as a moat defensive to a house, Against the envy of less happier lands,–This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England.

Near the end of the play, Shakespeare has Richard sigh, “I wasted time, now time doth waste me…”

God save the Queen and keep her country safe from Charles.

  1. Charles and Camilla don’t look too happy. Trump will never be PC in Britain. I think the UK needs to realize that the US pulled their rear-ends out of the war, and a lot of American blood was shed, but I doubt that they will.

    • Many of us realise that, and have enormous gratitude. And many of us realise the value of your current president.

The Muslim, Pakistani heritage Mayor of London doesn’t get it, of course. Not do lots of woke young people wishing to parade their credentials.

But God Bless America, and here’s hoping for Trump’s second term.

    • Actually, the Battle of Britain had already been won and Germany was focused on its adventures in the USSR by the time the US came into the war. We saved the British empire, rather than Britain itself. And most of all, we saved the USSR.

    • “the US pulled their rear-ends out of the war”…

thumbs down to that vulgar, vaunting and questionable assertion

  2. No Andre, the US did not pull our rear ends out of the war. The UK stood alone until the US condescended to enter proceedings, prompted by the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour and Germany’s subsequent declaration of war. I do not blame you for repeating what you were taught in school or what those wierdos in Hollywood taught you, it only confirms my belief that the education system in the US is deficient.

        • Communism should have been defeated in 1919 before it got going but the British Trade Unionists refused to load supplies for the war against the Red Army. UK deserves most of the blame for the rise of communism which everyone else had to suffer. They were too weak to control their communists and socialists. Remember Philby and all the rest they’ve had in positions of power ? They’ve had a problem with their university educated “intellectual” idiots for a century and it’s only getting worse just like Australia. Most university graduates are socialists due to course content. Business courses now about Corporate Social responsibility (CSR), Sustainability, Green Programs, Diversity, affirmative action, .. they don’t contain anything on how to make a profit, create jobs and money for shareholders who risk their cash. (I have read the content of a course last week)

    • Education in the West is deficient, period. Here in the U.S., students are no longer taught our foundational history. “There’s not enough time to cover all that”. Instead, in a desperate attempt to be ‘relevant’ it now begins with Harriet Tubman.

You forgot to say, though, that we gave vast quantities of materiel and money to Stalin without repayment required whilst charging Britain for every single dime of those Lend-Lease “loans” which took until the 1960s to finish paying off.

      • Dymphna,
It is not history that is taught in schools, only whatever narrative is approved at that time. The history textbooks that I was taught have been revised to the point that the history in my grandson’s textbook is nearly unrecognizable.
The Bolshevik Revolution had a greater scope than many are willing to admit. What we ‘gave’ to Stalin was in the name of Progressivism which found its fulfillment in LBJ and the subsequent bankruptcy of our country.

      • Dymphna: The scuttlebutt that I hear from young nieces, nephews, and adult friends who still have young children in school is that there was some kind of war to free the slaves, and then the Civil Rights Act in the 1960s, and then, in a flash of golden light, Barack Obama. Required reading includes the biography of Steve Jobs. That’s pretty much all a young student needs to know about American History. Extra credit for reading Michelle Obama’s book about her struggles.

        • Yes! That’s The Narrative. Before BHO, raaacists all the way back to Washington and his slaves at Mount Vernon. Ah, for the days when our black brethern and sistern named their kids after Jefferson and George.

    • “The UK stood alone until … ”

Czechoslovakia stood completely alone after the British prime minister – certain specimen named Ch. – added his treasonous signature to the Munich Diktat selling cheap the whole country to Hitler.

There’s solitude and solitude. And there is karma as well …

  3. Every now and again I think of that superb quote from Richard II. And I wonder if it ever stirs any English hearts. I just don’t think the English know what they’re on the brink of losing.

  4. The beautiful quote from Richard II describes a country that no longer exists except in the minds of those who appreciate history and literature.

The majority of those living in England today would be unable to read the paragraph, let alone understand it.

If they did, their first response would be “Allahu Akbar.”

    • In truth, such a country never existed. Shakespeare’s History plays were Court histories; he would have been beheaded had he written a truthful history…a careful man, a practical playwright who had a living to make.

It has been suggested that Shakespeare was a ‘secret’ Catholic who parlayed the Tudor party line to perfection. See:

The Stripping of the Altars: Traditional Religion in England, 1400-1580

There are lots of books on the subject; monographs, too, some suggesting that Sonnet 73 was a reference to his faith. Certainly its elegaic tone could reasonably be interpreted as more than meets the eye:

That time of year thou mayst in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruined choirs, where late the sweet birds sang.
In me thou see’st the twilight of such day
      As after sunset fadeth in the west;
Which by and by black night doth take away,
Death’s second self, that seals up all in rest.
In me thou see’st the glowing of such fire,
That on the ashes of his youth doth lie,
As the deathbed whereon it must expire,
Consumed with that which it was nourished by.
This thou perceiv’st, which makes thy love more strong,
To love that well which thou must leave ere long.

One had to be wily to survive the whims and ambitions of one’s rulers.

  5. So what would’ve happened if the US had not intervened on the side of its geographical allies: the UK – and Russia and France. Roosevelt considered, with a Russian defeat, that Europe would have fallen to German control. (That President Trump has called the latter day EU “a vehicle for Germany” is an irony that is noted. The EU army is an objective of the Lisbon Treaty, and its construction is underway, for declared self-defence, or more likely the aggressive containment of EU member States.)

A post-WW2 Europe & Russia led by a totalitarian German regime would have upset the balance of trade and finance, and presented physical obstacles for the US into the West and beyond.

So you might say it was in the US’ immediate strategic interests to intervene. And in the longer term, to optimize an opportunity to secure US geographical, financial, political, military hegemony in the West.
Indeed, the Atlantic Charter in 1941 (regarded as a forerunner of the UN), was, in return for US alliance, a mechanism that would in time bring down the curtain on the British Empire: whereby signatories would agree to all countries appointing their own governments. Churchill’s agreement to the US gave the larger land mass the dominant and interventionist position.

Also, the US became interventionist under its Lend-Lease loan scheme of 1941, wherein, assisting its allies, the US removed itself from a position of military neutrality against the aggression coming from Germany, Italy, Japan – that had festered from the poverty and privations of the 1930s.

The financial impoverishment and cost to the UK of fighting solo a war of global proportions, until loan assistance in 1941 – and the indebtedness to that Lend-Lease scheme – loaded Britain with a wartime debt of some £1.07billion which was finally paid-off in December 2006.
Not that the assistance was entirely one-sided: with invaluable and precious British technological radar, sonar, military and intelligence capabilities being delivered to the US govt as tacit payment during WW2.

The USSR was a larger recipient of Lend-Lease aid at £1.3billion, and with over £500million in military & food provisions actually sent by the UK. Without assistance, the USSR on its own resources would have been unable to defeat Germany. The USSR did repay some £770million to the US, but the remaining debt was written off.

The human cost from the US to their British and European kith and kin is beyond price or value. Too high for those men who served, fought, died, lived afterwards with the trauma. And for those women who served, died – as bombs fell on Britain – and who lived on with the damage. They were a generation that would put to shame, without any intention on their part, those who would dismissively and with blithe entitlement enjoy the freedoms bequeathed to them through human struggle and courage.

Turning the question around, what would’ve happened to the US if it had not intervened …

  6. Sorry to disappoint you, but Shakespeare’s sceptered isle is being rapidly deconstructed. Its still here geographically, still green for the most part, but as the home of the English people is rapidly ceasing to exist. Our two largest cities have now reached the point where they are majority none English, with the rest rapidly following suit. Areas where English people have lived for over a thousand years now resemble Karachi, Mogadishu, Nairobi, Bombay – or any corner of the world you care to mention
Gangs of foreigners rule our streets, they murder our (collective) sons and grandsons. Rape and prostitute our (collective) daughters and granddaughters, safe in the knowledge that our establishment – the police, politicians, the press will not only turn a blind eye – they will actively cover it up.
And if the English people dare to speak out they are instantly condemned as racist. An incautious word, a clumsy comment can earn you a visit from the police. A harsh or insulting comment said in the heat of the moment or a clumsy witticism can see you ostracized by your peers, sacked from your job even jailed.
Meanwhile it is open season on white people – a recent newspaper columnist described brexit party supporters as pi$$ stained old white people. Can you imagine what would happen to any columnist who sarcastically referred to pi$$ stained old jews ? .. or blacks ? or muslims ?……
What was probably the greatest civilisation in the world was founded on Christianity, and when I say greatest I don’t mean in terms of what we conquered. It was the most decent, innovative, fair, FREE civilisation there has ever been.
Now you cannot whisper a word against any religion EXCEPT Christianity. Devil worship and paganism now have equal status with Christianity in the eyes of our establishment.Sexual deviants are now invited into our schools to educate four and five year old CHILDREN in their particular form of perversion .
Just about EVERY T.V. ad which features a family consists of a black man, a white woman, mixed race kids. I’M never sure if this is to brainwash us into accepting it as the norm or to make our humiliation complete – rub our noses in it so to speak – either way the effect is the latter.
And our dear old queen ? The queen of ENGLAND first and foremost, who, just over sixty years ago swore a solemn oath to defend and protect her people and the church of she is the head ?
Well, I’m sorry to report, she has not only done NOTHING to protect either. She has enthusiastically joined in with the destruction of both.
As I said – sorry to shatter your illusions -but ours have already been shattered – along with our once decent country and people

    • but the bonnie wee lambs and sheep are still on the hillsides, so Isle of Ewe oh land of tin.

    • Hi Phil,
It was interesting reading about the depressing “development” that is happening in UK. It is sad indeed but I hope somehow UK will recover in the near future and would not end up like Turkey, India, Asiatic, etc.
By the way, I had been away from UK for more than ten years.
Perhaps, the growing intolerance for people who speak up against nonwhites such as Asians, etc is just a sign that things are getting worse.
I hope UK would not end up like those oppressive Asiatic cesspits.
