Gates of Vienna News Feed 5/15/2019

Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi indicated that he and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini may be cooperating after this month’s European parliamentary elections. Mr. Berlusconi’s party (Forza Italia) and Mr. Salvini’s party (the Lega) had originally been discussing a center-right coalition after the last Italian general election. However, Mr. Salvini had to cut a deal with the 5 Star Movement instead in order to forge a majority coalition and form a government.

“Little Girl Voice” of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Calling America to Fascism

Everything about AOC is a well orchestrated ACT of which her little girl voice is only the most recognizable part.

The New York Rep,. who, like radicals Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib took rise in 2018 Midterms, was after all, handpicked by Bernie Sanders’ Justice Democrats among 10,000 try-outs in a massive casting call.

AOC does not serve the electorate of New York’s 17th District, so much as she serves the Justice Democrat Movement that seeks to take over the Democrat Party and then an entire beleaguered America.

AOC lectures the world about global warming/climate change in a little girl voice in language that’s mostly pure baloney.

When blowback for what she is saying finally gets through to her cortex, she backtracks to the alibi that she was only joking.

Unfortunately, AOC is far more reality in action than just another sick joke.

Barr and other Trump administration officials have been threatened with arrest for refusing demands by the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives for the unredacted Mueller report and President Trump’s tax returns. Pelosi had recently commented about arresting Trump officials and locking them in a jail in the Capitol basement.

Alabama Terror: Unanswered Questions About Wahhaj Family Terror Training Camp in Alabama

Just outside of a small town in rural Alabama, down the interstate and just off a red dirt road, is a forested compound owned by a notorious Wahhaj family, the devout Islamic family with ties to the black supremacist Nation of Islam.

Siraj Wahhaj’s father is also named Siraj Wahhaj. He is perhaps more infamous for his ties to Islamic terror. Siraj Wahhaj Sr. has been called an “unindicted co-conspirator” of the 1993 World Trade Centre bombings. Wahhaj is also deeply homophobic and resentful of western culture, as evidenced in this recorded sermon.

Wahhaj Jr. and his fellow terrorists have been charged with multiple counts relating to terrorism, firearms, and child abuse, all in New Mexico. What did they do exactly? They were training nearly a dozen kids to assassinate government agents and shoot up schools.

Ald. Proco “Joe” Moreno’s insurance was set to pay out more than $30,000 on his stolen Audi A6, Cook County prosecutors said Wednesday, until Chicago policedetermined the luxury sports sedan had not been stolen at all.

Instead, the 1st Ward alderman had loaned the 2016 model to a friend, prosecutors alleged. The next day he gave differing false accounts to police and his insurer about where he had last seen the car, they charged.

Family: Appalachian Trail Murder Victim Used Outdoors as Therapy for PTSD

Family members said Ronald Sanchez, Jr., went hiking and embraced going outdoors to cope with the horrors of wartime.

He was out exploring the Appalachian Trail last weekend when he met up with a murderer.

Sanchez, 43, was identified by the FBI as the stabbing victim killed in Wythe County, Virginia on May 11, leading to the arrest of James Jordan of Massachusetts, who according to federal prosecutors threatened to set the man’s tent on fire and then attacked him when his hiking party tried to leave the area on the trail.

“He was adventurous and he got out of his shell and we were so proud of that because for a while he was in darkness,” his sister, Brenda Sanchez Loera, told CNN in a phone interview.

The Oklahoma native had served in Iraq in the US Army and had fallen into a deep depression, his sister said, while suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

His former wife, Elizabeth Kordek, said Sanchez sustained back and knee injuries that made the outdoor activities he used as recreation therapy back home much harder.

“He was in a cycling group, he was showing horses, and on a dragon (boat racing) team and these were all out of his comfort zone because he was a really shy guy,” Kordek told CNN. “To survive those deployments in Iraq and to die like this is just devastating.”

The Oklahoman newspaper spoke with Sanchez about his physical therapy through joining a biking team in 2016. He told them that he served for 16 years in the military including three tours in Iraq.

Gray Fossil Site Unearths New Species of Rhino

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A group of paleontologists from East Tennessee State University unearthed a new species of rhino at the Gray Fossil Site.

The new species, Teleoceras aepysoma, is a member of a group of rhinoceros called barrel-chested rhinos, which were widespread across the North American plains.

This rhino found at the Gray Fossil Site lived an estimated 4.5 to 4.9 million years ago, and were among the very last rhinos on the continent.

Police Raid on Journalist’s Home Has Grave First Amendment Implications

When San Francisco police arrived at journalist Bryan Carmody’s apartment last week, they smashed the building’s gate with a sledgehammer, placed him in handcuffs, and raided his home with guns drawn.

They left with his notebooks, computers, phones, and various other electronic devices, as well as a police report on the death of Jeff Adachi, the city’s public defender.

“I knew what they wanted,” said Carmody in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. “They wanted the name.”

That is, they wanted the name of the person who leaked the police report to Carmody, who then sold it to three local news outlets. His company, North Bay News, tracks stories overnight and sells the resulting footage and information to television stations for their round-the-clock coverage.

Agents had attempted to identify his source several weeks prior; Carmody says he “politely” declined to provide it. The department then sought warrants for the raid, raising serious First Amendment concerns around Carmody’s protections as a journalist.

The police report about the death of Adachi—whose reputation was defined by his penchant for criticizing the police—provided gossipy fodder for San Francisco’s local news in late February. Laden with a string of scandal-ridden details about his final moments, it said he had been with a woman who wasn’t his wife in an apartment that had “cannabis gummies,” “empty bottles of alcohol,” as well as an “unmade bed”—the latter of which was widely publicized with photographs. The salacious and often irrelevant specifics, later leaked to several journalists, sparked speculation that the police department was looking for the last laugh against the city’s top public defender, who wasn’t exactly known for making their jobs any easier.

“There were leaks happening all over the place,” Carmody told the L.A. Times.

But the particulars of the police-Adachi feud are no longer of import to Carmody. What does matter to him are the circumstances surrounding his confiscated equipment, without which he cannot run his company.

The raid may have broken California state law, which shields journalists from being held in contempt for declining to name a source. It also excludes protected items from being subject to search warrants.

But those warrants—one for his home and the other for the office of North Bay News—were issued in spite of Carmody’s professional background. “It’s possible that the courts decided that because Carmody is a freelancer, he is not subject to the shield law,” Aaron Field, an attorney with the Northern California chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, said in an interview with the San Francisco Examiner. “That is not correct.”

Police Commissioner John Hamasaki tells the Examiner that the information was not obtained “in the context of his duties as a reporter,” but as a salesman. That’s a dubious assumption at best: Although Carmody lacks a specific platform, his work is clearly journalistic in nature. A disregard for his First Amendment protections is not justifiable—it’s merely convenient.[…]

Freitas delivered his remarks on Friday as a response to the very heated gun control debate.

The New Green Serfdom

“Until you do it, I’m the boss,” said Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the socialist congresswoman from the Bronx, responding to critics of her Green New Deal in February. Later that night, the freshman congresswoman doubled down on her comment, tweeting that people who “don’t like the #GreenNewDeal” should “come up with your own ambitious, on-scale proposal to address the global climate crisis. Until then, we’re in charge—and you’re just shouting from the cheap seats.”

Much has rightly been made of the Green New Deal’s fuzzy-headed utopianism and its impossible goal of reducing U.S. greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero in 10 years. But we should also pay close attention to the plan’s authoritarian impulses, particularly in light of its historical inspirations: Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal and the command economy he established during the Second World War.

If proponents of the Green New Deal are serious—and there’s no reason to doubt them—then they’re proposing a return to a militaristic America where Uncle Sam’s heavy hand intervenes in all aspects of life, curtailing individual freedom in pursuit of their collectivist goals. And like the planners of the Roosevelt years, their intentions are clear and grandiose: They want the power to regiment a society of nearly 330 million people in pursuit of a pipe dream they liken to a war for survival.

‘The New Deal and the Analogue of War’

After FDR defeated Herbert Hoover in 1932, the new president rolled out his first New Deal to confront the Great Depression. Roosevelt saw the economic collapse as directly analogous to war. In his first inaugural address, he said that Americans “must move as a trained and loyal army willing to sacrifice for the good of a common discipline, because without such discipline no progress is made, no leadership becomes effective.”

Like President Woodrow Wilson during World War I, President Roosevelt and his New Dealers moved to cartelize the economy with the enthusiastic support of business executives such as Gerard Swope, president of General Electric. “There was scarcely a New Deal act or agency that did not owe something to the experience of World War I,” according to FDR scholar William E. Leuchtenburg in an excellent paper published in 1964, “The New Deal and the Analogue of War.”

The best example of this was the creation of the National Recovery Administration (NRA), which was essentially a peacetime version of Wilson’s War Industries Board (WIB). Headed by the Wall Street financier Bernard Baruch, the WIB coordinated purchases, allocated commodities, and fixed “prices and priorities in production” while guaranteeing a profit to the big business that helped fuel the war machine.

If the WIB could coordinate an economic mobilization during wartime, the Roosevelt administration thought, then a peacetime equivalent could defeat the Great Depression by mobilizing America’s productive powers. The NRA held industries to “codes of fair competition,” which set wages, working hours, and prices. By doing so, Roosevelt and his New Dealers believed they were overthrowing the cut-throat and chaotic competition they blamed for the Depression.

Companies that didn’t cooperate with the NRA were ostracized. Under the NRA’s Blue Eagle Campaign, businesses that played ball were given a blue eagle symbol for their windows and packages to advertise their adherence to the administration’s rules and regulations. Those that didn’t faced boycotts. As General Hugh Johnson, head of the NRA, put it, “Those who are not with us are against us.” Some businessmen who violated NRA regulations were arrested.

Socialist leader Norman Thomas called this “a scheme which in essence is fascist.” The NRA itself issued a report that stated, “The Fascist Principles are very similar to those we have been evolving here in America.” In 1935, the Supreme Court ruled the NRA’s “codes of fair competition” unconstitutional, saying they violating the Constitution’s separation of powers as well as the Commerce Clause. Small wonder that New Left historians accused the agency of championing a corporatist economy.

The Green New Dealers should also be wary of using the original New Deal’s Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), which sent young unemployed and unmarried men onto federal, state, and local government lands for conservation purposes, as a model. In her defense of the Green New Deal at The Intercept—aptly titled “The Battle Lines Have Been Drawn on the Green New Deal”—Naomi Klein cites the CCC as an inspiration, noting that it began with 200,000 volunteers but then expanded dramatically due to its popularity. She doesn’t mention that the CCC was really an Army program with a titular civilian head.

Leuchtenburg points out that the CCC was “consciously devised to provide the moral equivalent to war” and that it “aimed to install martial virtues in the nation’s youth.” When the men woke up in their army tents in camp, they heard “Reveille.” During lights out, they heard “Taps.” It shouldn’t be surprising that when the draft returned in 1940, as Charles E. Heller writes, CCC alumni “provided the pretrained manpower to fill the U.S. Army’s ranks upon mobilization with men who readily assumed the role of Non-Commissioned Officers.”

[…]

American people did extraordinary things to win World War II, but it took an authoritarian society to achieve it—one that nobody should want to return to.

When the United States goes abroad to do widescale social engineering, that’s rightly called imperialism by libertarians and socialists alike. But when widespread social engineering is done at home through the federal government, people like Ocasio-Cortez call it progressivism and point to the New Deal and World War II to sell the plan.

Big Tech Loves Europe’s Ideas for Ending Internet Freedom

This week, representatives from Facebook, Google and Twitter will join with French President Emmanuel Macron, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and other world leaders to launch a chilling proposal to curb free speech across the internet. Americans should be alarmed. European elites are fast extinguishing internet freedom on the Continent. How long will it survive in the US?

Social media titans like Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg have more influence over our freedom than any Supreme Court justice or even the president. Convinced that their tech prowess should also grant them a wide moral berth, these internet executives are selling out core American principles for the ¬almighty dollar.

They will do whatever a host country demands. In China, Russia and even capitalist Singapore, internet freedom is already dead, without a murmur of protest from Zuckerberg and others.

Standing alongside Macron on Friday, Zuckerberg said: “The question of what speech should be acceptable and what is harmful needs to be defined by regulation, by thoughtful governments.” You read that correctly — Zuckerberg’s endorsement of censorship. A total repudiation of America’s commitment to freedom of expression, which tops our Bill of Rights.

While Europe finalizes its censorship regulations, Facebook ¬relies on leftist groups like Avaaz to finger accounts for being “divisive.” In Spain, France and Italy, Facebook is already removing accounts expressing populist views on NATO, immigration and other controversies.

[…]

Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis once explained that, under our Constitution, the only acceptable remedy for evil speech is “more speech, not enforced silence.” Government must not limit who speaks in the public square.

[…]

Google, Facebook, Twitter and others, though private-sector companies, are the new public square.

Don’t count on Congress to fix the problem while Democrats control the House. They are on the side of the censors. […]

Instead, expect the courts to step in. Last fall, a conservative nonprofit called Freedom Watch sued Facebook, Google, Twitter and Apple for suppressing “politically conservative content.” It’s plausible that judges will rule that allowing social media platforms to censor political speech destroys the freedom of the public square.

Congressional Democrats are still whining about Russian meddling on the internet. Truth is, less than .00008 (eight one hundred thousandths) percent of the total political tweets during the 2016 contest originated with Russian intelligence.

The biggest threat to a legitimate outcome in 2020 is not foreign interference. It’s left-leaning social media giants tilting the election by silencing viewpoints they don’t like. It’s already happening.

Europe is Finished: America is Next

Europe once again has entered the Dark Ages. Europe no longer is the old Europe. It is just a matter of time that Europe falls into the hands of the Islamists. There is nothing we or anyone can do to reverse this process. America would be better off to save itself than following the path of Europe. Much of Europe is already past the stage of being rescued from Islam. Let us not fool ourselves, Europe will become an Islamic continent in our life time.

Immigration based on merit can strengthen a nation. Immigration from third world countries by lottery, can destroy a nation. Recent massive Muslim migration into Europe has completely altered and reshaped itself and its culture. It is almost unrecognizable. Wherever Muslims go, so goes its ethos. You cannot separate Muslims from Islam. Islam is a monolithic-cult: the barbarian culture of Islam. As Islam gains more power, it will inevitably impose itself and its ways on all others. Islam should have been eradicated from the face of the Earth hundreds of years ago. But it is here and it is making inroads in traditionally non-Muslim lands. Islam is a dangerous ideology that erroneously is referred to as a “religion.” Forget the peace.

Here we must ask ourselves, why Muslim countries do not replicate America’s lenient laws to build churches and synagogues in a non-Christian land?…

Many Europeans are fleeing their ancestral homeland ahead of the Islamic fire which is engulfing their countries. These are the affluent and the ones with foresight. Others are either oblivious to the threat, aim to accommodate it as the holy grail of multiculturalism, or will end up one day seeing themselves in the fight of their lives. For Islam does not believe in multiculturalism. And there will be those who will eventually wake up from their stupor, they will either completely capitulate or fight the Muslims in bloody block-by-block, street-by-street battles.

Italy: Parolin Defends Occupied-Building Intervention

Problem regards children, elderly says Vatican Sec’ of State

(ANSA) — Milan, May 14 — Vatican Secretary of State Pietro Parolin on Tuesday defended the controversial decision by the papal almoner, Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, to turn the electricity back on at a Rome building illegally occupied by homeless people at the weekend. The building had been without power since May 6 due to a dispute over unpaid bills.

Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini criticised the move, saying “supporting illegal conduct is never a good signal”. “I have seen lots of interpretations and lots of controversy,” Parolin said.

“I personally think that the effort should be made to understand the sense of this gesture, which is to attract everyone’s attention to a real problem that involves people, children, the elderly”. Parolin denied that the squatters had been a special case.

“The Church already does this, it helps everybody,” he said, replying to Salvini’s demand that the Church pay struggling Italians’ power bills.

A complaint against person or persons unknown for illegally hooking up the site and stealing energy had been filed by Areti, the power network company of Rome electricity utility ACEA.

Areti sources said it was essential to get back into the building to make the power generator safe.

“There are lots of Italian people and legally resident immigrants who pay their bills, even if they are in difficulty,” Salvini said Monday. “As interior minister, I guarantee the rules (are respected).

“If the people in the Vatican want to pay the bills of all the Italians in hardship, we give them a bank account (for it)”.

Pope Francis: Human History Marked by ‘Mysterious Evil’

“There is an evil in our life, which is an indisputable presence,” Pope Francis told pilgrims Wednesday as he continued his reflections on the Lord’s Prayer.

“History books are the desolate catalog of how much our existence in this world has been an often-failed adventure,” the pope said on a drizzly morning in the Vatican’s Saint Peter’s Square. “There is a mysterious evil, which surely is not the work of God but that penetrates silently into the folds of history.”

UK Police Force Ridiculed for Confiscating a Spoon

Fighting violent crime one kitchen utensil at a time

A police force in the UK has been ridiculed for bragging about fighting knife crime by confiscating a spoon.

Regents Park Police said that a local charity shop had handed over a collection of potentially dangerous weapons to prevent criminals buying them.

“Yesterday we conducted weapons sweeps, dealt with a person injured from a van reversing on them, reported a burglary and collected all these from @scope charity shop who diligently didn’t want them to get into the wrong hands & disposed of correctly & safely,” said the police force in a tweet.

Eagle-eyed observers soon noted that amongst the trawl of deadly weapons, most of which were cooking knives and letter openers, was a spoon.

That’s right. With violent crime soaring and street gangs becoming more vicious, police in London are confiscating spoons.

“They CHOSE to include the spoon,” commented journalist Tim Pool. “They could have just left it out. They really do think spoons are dangerous.”

UK: Parliament Vows to Vote Down May’s Deal Fourth Time as Govt Threats Hard or No-Brexit

Apparently undeterred by having her so-called withdrawal agreement voted down by Parliament three times in various guises, Prime Minister Theresa May is to attempt pushing it through a fourth time next month.

Prime Minister Theresa May’s officials at her Downing Street office announced Tuesday that a new vote would come on the week of June 3rd, and would give Members of Parliament a fourth chance to vote the way she wants them to, ratifying a withdrawal agreement she was given by the European Union…

Mr Farage characterised the agreement Mrs May was trying to push through, saying: “it’s not a deal. It’s a new European treaty… The truth of it is that we’re being asked to leave one European treaty to sign up to another European treaty which, in some ways, is perhaps even worse than the situation we’re currently in.

“And that is why three times it has been rejected in the House of Commons.”

Russia Winning the Push for Peace in Kabul

Three decades after the Soviet retreat, Moscow, wielding pragmatism and realpolitik, is again a key player in Afghanistan

On April 25, Moscow was — for a day — the world capital of Afghan peace negotiations as a trilateral meeting on the peace process for the shattered country brought diplomats from Russia, the US and China together for intense discussion.

The results were beyond expectation.

The three sides reached agreement on eight points — most importantly, supporting “an inclusive Afghan-led, Afghan-owned peace process” and calling “for an orderly and responsible withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan.”

That statement strongly implies that the US and the ISAF coalition will leave Afghanistan as part of a peace deal, which would likely require a commitment from the Taliban to keep ISIS and al-Qaeda out of the country. That would be in keeping with US President Donald Trump’s preference for withdrawing US troops from combat zones where clear wins look unlikely.

Trump’s Afghan envoy Zalmay Khalilzad, who headed the US delegation in Moscow, hailed the agreement as “a milestone.”

April’s developments follow the two-day inter-Afghan “Moscow Format” talks in February. That brought together Kabul figures including former President Hamid Karzai, prominent figures from the Northern Alliance, such as Atta Muhammad Nur, Yunus Qanooni and Ahmad Wali Massoud, as well as former National Security Advisor Hanif Atmar, for talks with Taliban heavyweights.

The fact that this top-tier, intra-Afghan dialogue was held in Moscow, not in Doha, Qatar, as before, clearly indicates how important Afghanistan is for Kremlin strategists.

The Great Game Russia has for centuries taken a close interest in the ever-divisive, landlocked country. Czarist agents competed with imperial arch-rival Britain across Central Asia for much of the 19th and early 20th centuries — “The Great Game.”

In 1919, after Britain’s third Afghan invasion, the nascent Soviet Union sided with Kabul, becoming the first country to establish diplomatic relations. In 1920, after a British attempt to assassinate Afghan premier Amanullah Khan in 1920, Kabul signed an Afghan-Soviet non-aggression pact. That was followed by heavy Soviet assistance — financial aid, aircraft and telegraph operators. A glance at a map shows why Afghanistan is critical for Moscow: It borders the then-Soviet states of Turkmenistan, Tajikstan and Uzbekistan.

Even closer relations were forged in the 1950s, when Moscow started a major economic assistance program in Afghanistan that saw more than $1 billion in Soviet aid, including military assistance, flood in. Bilateral relations were further boosted after the Communist Party took power in Afghanistan, and in 1978, a 20-year friendship treaty was signed. But next year, the pro-Soviet Nur Muhammad Taraki was assassinated.

Moscow reacted strongly. Soviet troops invaded, the presidential palace was stormed and Taraki’s successor was killed by Soviet commandos. An intense guerilla war began. At its peak, more than 100,000 Soviet soldiers were fighting in Afghanistan.

Moscow pumped in $800 million worth of aid and rebuilt Kabul’s military, but could not defeat the hardy, West-supported Afghan fighters. In a move that recalled the US humiliation in Vietnam and presaged the breakup of the USSR, Soviet troops retreated in 1989. Afghanistan descended into chaos.

Now, after a three-decade hiatus, Russia is returning.

[Pay attention, US military.]

Word on the Vine: New Species of Vine Snake Discovered in India

Almost a decade ago, in 2009, two herpetologists spotted a snake crossing the road in the Similipal Biosphere Reserve, Odisha. Although Prof Sushil K. Dutta and Dr Pratyush Mohapatra could tell that they were seeing this snake for the first time in Odisha, little did they know that they were on the verge of a discovery.

“We thought it was another subspecies of the Common vine snake at the time”, recollects Dr Mohapatra. Later that year, they spotted a male on a Lantana bush in a sparsely forested area.

Fast forward ten years, that snake has now been identified as a new species and named Ahaetulla laudankia. This discovery of a vine snake species comes after a gap of 113 years, since Annandale described Ahaetulla anomala or the variable colored vine snake in 1906!

What China’s Appetite for Gas Could Mean for the World

China’s rapidly growing market is without doubt one of the most coveted destinations for exporters of liquefied natural gas. In pursuit of wealth and power, LNG producers from the four corners of the globe — the rolling farmlands of Pennsylvania, the deserts of Qatar, the rainforests of Papua New Guinea and the frigid waters of Russia — are all keen to compete for a slice of the pie. However, contrary to popular belief, China might not end up becoming the LNG-guzzling giant many have prophesied. This could have a major impact on the global market as a supply glut might lead to a collapse of LNG prices globally.

China is in the middle of a great energy transition. In a bid to tackle air pollution and “turn China’s skies blue again,” in 2017 Beijing unveiled a bold policy plan. Part of this initiative is an extensive government-led switch from coal to natural gas for heating and industrial purposes. When the switch was announced, natural gas made up around 7% of China’s total energy mix, but Beijing wants to more than double this figure. The government plans that by 2030 natural gas will account for 15% of China’s overall energy mix.

In recent years there has also been much talk about the fact that China’s future natural-gas demand will to a large extent be met by LNG imports from countries such as Australia, Qatar and the US, just to name a few. In fact, some analysts even argued that China’s LNG imports could more than double and grow from 53.7 million metric tons in 2018 to well over 126 million tons in 2030. Consequently, China would absorb almost a quarter of the global LNG supply, which by 2030 could total around 500 million tons.

However, this scenario is far from certain. While it is notoriously difficult to forecast future gas demand, it could be argued that China’s future LNG demand will by and large be determined by a combination of domestic factors and the broader trends in the global gas market.

First, China’s future natural-gas demand remains very uncertain. In 2018, China consumed 280 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas, and it has been estimated by various organizations that by 2030 its demand could reach as little as 450bcm or as much as 666bcm. However, its demand will depend not only on the country’s economic growth, but also on Beijing’s success in implementing its costly and heavily subsidized coal-to-gas switch. While the current market environment is relatively favorable for the switch, a major increase in prices of oil and LNG, both term and spot-market, could potentially foil China’s plan of reducing its reliance on coal.

[…]

Considering China’s weight in the global economy, any meaningful changes in its future LNG demand will be felt far and wide. If Beijing fails to absorb a significant chunk of the LNG that will hit the global markets and major LNG exporters do not respond by curbing their production output, we could be witnessing a potential supply glut in the years to come. This could prove to be a boon to other LNG importers, particularly those in Europe, as they would have greater access to potentially cheaper LNG, which otherwise would have likely set sail to China.

Done in by Our Own Irrational Compassion

There is no question! By simple logic, illegal immigration has been and continues to be a deadly invasion of guns, drugs, humans carrying diseases, taking American jobs, soaking up “free” welfare, housing, education and health care benefits and adding to America’s crime rate.

Why do they come here? That’s simple. They are leaving hopelessly crime-ridden, socialist countries where poverty, hunger and corruption infect their daily existence. Consequently, when they come here, their mindset is already socialist and they are looking for free handouts from government because they believe that government owes them, not unlike the “Occupy Wall Street” crowd who want GOVERNMENT to do a better job of redistributing the wealth …. to them.

Why aren’t these illegal aliens stopped at the borders? Because laws have been purposely passed, court decisions rendered and immigration settlement agreements (Flores) signed to encourage illegal immigration.

Italy: Refugees Can’t be Repatriated — EU Court

Even if refugee status removed or nor formally granted

The court said that stance applied to the cases of an Ivorian national, a Congolese national and an individual of Chechen origin in Belgium and the Czech Republic.

It said this position held true even if in the case of persons representing a danger either to the security of the host Member State or, having been convicted of a particularly serious crime, to the community of that State.

Alabama Passes a Bill Making Abortion a Felony, Potentially Setting Up a Historic Showdown in the Supreme Court

We should applaud Alabama for trying to do the right thing

They actually did it.

On Tuesday night, the Alabama Senate passed a bill that would actually make abortion a felony in the state of Alabama. Needless to say, pro-abortion forces all over the nation are officially freaking out about this new law. They know that it is intended as “a direct challenge” to Roe v. Wade, and they know that this bill could potentially set up a historic showdown in the U.S. Supreme Court. As this bill was being debated, actress Alyssa Milano called for women all across America to conduct a national “sex strike” because she believes that “whoever controls reproduction has power”. Of course she has been greatly mocked for calling for such a strike, but the truth is that the left is going to do all that they can to derail this effort.

And even though there will be immediate legal challenges, the passing of this bill still represents an important victory. For decades, pro-abortion forces have successfully shot down bills that would have made abortion a felony in state legislatures all over the nation, but now we have finally had a breakthrough in Alabama…

Your Country is Literally Being Handed Off to Foreigners

Speaking of one of many such deceivers is Donald Trump! I have shouted from the rooftops time and time again that what this man says, and what he does, are just the opposite (John 8:44).

For example the American people are told that the economy couldn’t be better and that Trump will eliminate the national debt in 8 years, only to find that instead, his budgets would add 1.9 trillion during this time increasing the U.S. debt to 29 trillion dollars.

On April 26, 2017, We were told that Donald Trump pulled the feds out of K-12 education, as if to suggest that a campaign promise has been fulfilled.

However, the fact is that on September 10, 2018, Donald Trump and his U.S. Education Secretary pick Betsy DeVos signed on to a radical global “declaration” that calls for, among other absurdities, brainwashing children to believe in the United Nations-backed ideology of total government known as “ ‘sustainable development.” In fact, the pseudo-treaty inked by Trump’s education chief suggests that the purpose of schooling is to indoctrinate children with the right “values” and teach them to be obedient worker drones.

Donald Trump sells himself on the campaign trail as the pro-lifer to the American people only to find out that, once again, just the exact opposite is true.

(CNSNews.com) reported February 9, 2018 — Despite promising to defund Planned Parenthood, President Donald Trump signed a budget Friday, which was passed by the Republican-led Congress, that fully funds the nation’s largest abortion provider…

On November 30, 2018, President Trump, along with the Prime Minister of Canada and the President of Mexico, signed the United States-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) “Trade Agreement”. “Trade” is in quotes, because the document isn’t about “trade” — it’s about setting up global government. “Agreement” is in quotes because the document is a “treaty” — and that invokes the two-thirds ratification requirement of Art. II, §2, cl. 2, US Constitution.

Kristin Stockheimer wrote at The New American:

Not only is it still alive, it is larger and much worse than NAFTA! The text of the USMCA, according to former U.S. Ambassador to Canada Bruce Heyman, has portions and chapters of the agreement that are identical to those in the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP). Robert Lighthizer even admitted it is “built on” many TPP aspects. These facets, according to The New American writer Christian Gomez, have the potential to strip the U.S. of its sovereignty:

Much like the TPP Commission, the Free Trade Commission can make changes to the USMCA without the consent of Congress. In fact, the agreement completely undermines Congress’ Constitutional Article I, Section 8 power to regulate trade with foreign nations.

[Comment: USMCA is hideous. It undermines US sovereignity. All is not roses in the Trump garden, it seems Americans are being played again. Not everything Trump does is best for America.]

WhatsApp Voice Calls Used to Inject Israeli Spyware on Phones

A vulnerability in the messaging app WhatsApp has allowed attackers to inject commercial Israeli spyware on to phones, the company and a spyware technology dealer said.

The malicious code, developed by the secretive Israeli company NSO Group, could be transmitted even if users did not answer their phones, and the calls often disappeared from call logs, said the spyware dealer, who was recently briefed on the WhatsApp hack.

20 thoughts on “Gates of Vienna News Feed 5/15/2019

  1. “In other news, a recent survey shows that 51% of Swedes oppose admitting any more refugees into the country.”

Way way too late for Sweden now.

      • You don’t need a crystal ball… look what they voted for last time.

        • Yes. In elections last autumn the established parties could prevent their desaster only by taking the Swedendemocrats immigration politics into their mouths. Then it took about 4 months to form a new government; the main options were center with support of Swedendemocrats and red/green with support of parts of center.

The latter happend because the two liberal parties wanted to keep out the Swedendemocrats at any price — these parties have now dropped in voter’s opinion.

The genie is out of the bottle.

      • Fair comment Ludwig.

None would be happier than I to be wrong and I’m gladdened that there remain those like yourself who retain an optimism.

        Mean that genuinely.

Time will tell all of course.

          • Still, to try to capture the situation, we must even NOW inform the general, “Sir, 49% of the troops can’t be bothered to show up for the battle to save our nation. The enemy is within our borders but still we can’t rouse the 49%.”

    Kajsa Norman: Sweden’s Dark Soul

In this week’s episode, Sam talks to investigative journalist Kajsa Norman about her book ‘Sweden’s Dark Soul’. In it, she turns her gaze on the oppressive forces at the heart of Sweden’s ‘model democracy’. The story begins with the cover-up of mass sexual assaults at a Stockholm music festival. The reason? The perpetrators were unaccompanied refugee minors.

    Presented by Sam Leith.

  3. I find it impossible to imagine why on earth Sweden should have conceded to have allowed so many immigrants/migrants from Middle Eastern/Pakistan countries into their own-their centuries old culture and way of life is eons away from an Islamic culture. The result of such foolhardiness has wreaked havoc throughout that nation and its vulnerable young female population that have suffered continued sexual assaults from Muslim men in particular. Why don’t they learn the lesson and bar any further such immigration from such peoples and deport those individuals that have committed sexual assault on any Swedish woman?

  4. In Russia, they are also trying to brainwash the population:

The legislation, written by Supervisor Aaron Peskin, also will force city departments to disclose what surveillance technology they currently use — and seek approval from the Board of Supervisors on any new technology that either collects or stores someone’s data.

“This is really about saying we can have security without being a security state. We can have good policing without being a police state,” Peskin said at Tuesday’s board meeting. “Part of that is building trust with the community.”
