The Nihilism of Emmanuel Macron

The following video by Maxime Lépante juxtaposes the Notre Dame fire with a couple of clips of President Emmanuel “Toy Boy” Macron denying the existence of French art and culture.

When I first heard Mr. Macron’s words, they seemed familiar, and I eventually recalled what they reminded me of — Mona Sahlin, at that time an MP for the Social Democrats in Sweden, speaking to a Turkish youth organization in 2002:

I cannot figure out what Swedish culture is. I think that’s what makes many Swedes jealous of immigrant groups. You have a culture, an identity, a history, something that brings you together. And what do we have? We have Midsummer’s Eve and such silly things.

As an alternative label for Mr. Macron’s and Ms. Sahlin’s nihilistic sentiments, Dymphna coined a new word: “Erasism”.

0:00   Notre Dame [Cathedral] burns, and Macron destroys France! For Macron, Notre Dame is not French.
0:06   On April 15, 2019, an enormous fire ravaged the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris,
0:10   this exceptional treasure of France,
0:14   this major masterpiece of Western civilization,
0:17   this eternal jewel of worldwide art.
0:20   The cathedral that had never had a fire in 850 years,
0:24   that survived all the wars intact, including the two world wars, that has never known any problems
0:28   after centuries of countless renovations and maintenance work,
0:32   has burned. And this a few days after the pillaging of the St. Denis Basilica (on March 3 2019),
0:36   the burial site of the Kings of France, by an illegal Muslim immigrant. And the arson
0:39   at Saint-Sulpice Church (this happened a few days before Notre Dame),
0:42   decorated by Delacroix’s splendid paintings. However, it is astonishing to watch
0:46   our world-famous and admired churches, cathedrals, and monuments
0:50   be looted, ransacked, burnt down, destroyed, under the presidency of Emmanuel Macron,
0:54   who never misses the opportunity to spit on France, and who has on many occasions
0:58   claimed that French culture and French art do not exist?
1:04   “French culture does not exist.” (Lyon, February 4th, 2017)
1:08   “French art, I have never seen it.” (London, February 21st, 2017) —Notre Dame (Cathedral)
1:11   is the worldwide jewel of gothic art, the art
1:14   that represents the quintessence of French innovation and French art, so much so that
1:19   from the 12th to the 15th century, all Europeans called it [Notre Dame] the “opus francigenum”,
1:22   which means “French work” in Latin.
1:26   Today, French art burns, a terrible symbol of our heritage,
1:30   of our culture, of our civilization, of our nation, of our people, by the anti-French Macron.
1:38   There is no such thing as French culture.
1:45   French art, I have never seen it.
1:48   There is no such thing as French culture.
1:54   French art, I have never seen it.
1:58   There is no such thing as French culture.
2:02   French art, I have never seen it.
2:06   There is no such thing as French culture.
2:10   French art, I have never seen it.

  1. Macron was right in 2017. He was having a prophetic discourse..And as we can see, the prophecy start becoming true.. Just wait few more years.

  2. The cravenness of Europe’s leaders is only matched by that of their predecessors who collaborated with the Nazi occupiers in WW2.

    • But the irony there is that the Krauts at least knew what art was. They took the time to loot France and Holland of their artistic masterpieces because they valued them. They didn’t throw them on a bonfire. Big difference.

      • I just wanted to write the same thing! If Germans do anything right, it’s their industry and apreciation for art!

        • Correct, even the much touted “Hitler tried to destroy Paris” ignores the part where that happened in response to the Allied destruction of beautiful cities like Dresden.
Whenever I see reference to the monument men I think of the hypocrisy of saving a few portable paintings and other smaller works of art while entire medieval and baroque cities were razed to the ground along with all their statues, traceries, mosaics, frescoes and everything else.

    The Macron has a predecessor

    ********************************************************
Former Swedish prime minister Fredrik Reinfeldt
    laconicly concluded in 2006-11-15:

    “The Swedish is merely barbarian”

“Swedish is just barbarism. The rest of the
    development has come from outside.”

    • Then it is a good thing they are importing so many new intellectuals, deep thinkers, philosphers, physicists, physicians, engineers, and scientists from the entire width and breadth of Africa. Undoubtedly, Sweden will have a lock on the Nobel Prize for the next several decades at least.

At current importation rates, Sweden in the next six months will have developed nuclear fusion, interstellar travel, Artificial Intelligence (Africa will need it after all, since all their best and brightest have emigrated to Sweden), anti-aging treatments, the cure for AIDS, and reverse engineered the secret recipe of Colonel Sanders famous fried chicken…

      • Sure, Sweden will perhas become the Wakanda of the north.

The prospects are good, already around 50% of all women who give birth to a child in Sweden have a foreign background and around 35% of all women who give birth to a child in Sweden now have an overseas (African?) background.

      • … reverse engineered the secret recipe of Colonel Sanders famous fried chicken…

Muhwhahahahaha!!! Too late. No soup for you!

11 spices — Mix with 2 cups white fl
        1) 2/3 Ts salt
        2) 1/2 Ts thyme
        3) 1/2 Ts basil
        4) 1/3 Ts oregano
        5) 1 Ts celery salt
        6) 1 Ts black pepper
        7) 1 Ts dried mustard
        8) 4 Ts paprika
        9) 2 Ts garlic salt
        10) 1 Ts ground ginger
        11) 3 Ts white pepper

      • You may have forgotten one feat they will accomplish as well: final solution to global warming now a.k.a. Climate change. Having done so Sweden will become the savior of all humankind.

      • I don’t think even the Israelis could crack so many problems in six months. Give them a bit longer, however…

        • The Israelis never imported so many african savants before either. They made the grave error of deporting all of theirs, so no Nobel Prize for them…

  4. I recall similar sentiments were expressed in the UK by the looney left who proclaimed that the British had no culture of their own with the possible exception of “Dancing round the Maypole.” The left has a lot to answer for.

  5. Of all the cultures in the entire world whose cultural output deserves dismissal, France is the LAST to come to mind. Macron’s statements are simply perverse.

  6. Rameau, Lully, Gounod, Faure, Massenet, Bizet, Debussy, Ravel, Boulez, Dutilleux. Grisey, Murrail. Twelve French composers (off the top of my head) who whatever they are, are certainly NOT British (or German) composers. French music is instantly recognisable at least to me if not to the French President.

As a child on holiday in France, guests of a French family at which time I was beginning to learn the Pianoforte I marvelled at the music (all French) played on their Piano by our hosts family’s daughter for I had never previously heard music – it must have been Debussy – like that. How tragic then that France has no culture!

    • Indeed, and this year is the 150th anniversary of Berlioz’ death, which makes the Beethoven pieces on the soundtrack an odd choice!

More seriously, even that great socialist writer Orwell had no time for the socialist who praises every culture but his own, and Gilbert and Sullivan made the same point in “I’ve got a little list” (The Mikado, 1885)

  7. I see people in the comments reminiscenting about similar quotes from other politians in other countries, but let’s be honest for a moment, if you ask a random person on the street anywhere in Europe, they probably won’t be able to name a Swedish or British artist, but they will, for sure, remember three or five French artists easily and that’s what makes Macron’s talk especially laughable!

  8. Mona Sahlin is widely and deservedly regarded as being an idiot. Interesting and revealing that mr Macron holds similar views…
