Only a few days ago, Il Giornale had noted how the alleged wave of hate, which — according to the Left — was invading the country, in reality was being manifested against the League and its secretary. The interior minister has for months been targeted by threats, offensive writings, intimidating letters, and provocations. There are those who urge his shooting and those who burn his effigy. Others smear walls (and League offices) with offensive words and insults. This time, however, it seems to be something more.
It is not yet clear who made the video or where it was filmed. But the intimidations are clear and attack not only the minister or a candidate, but “women and children” of a party so that “no more will be born”. “How disgusting. What a disgrace,” Salvini comments on his social site. “I hope that this idiot will be punished in an exemplary manner. For those who use politics to wish for the deaths of mothers and children, zero tolerance.”

This is a huge problem, because the security services are, like the other government bureaucracies, are increasingly taking on the characteristics of a third-world banana republic. As pointed out by the unsung hero of development economists, Peter Bauer, many years ago, third world bureaucracies exist to protect themselves and to ensure their own survival. One of their strategies is to target safe people to enforce the laws. The law-abiding nationals are safe, so they are far more likely to be arrested and prosecuted for minor infractions than organized terrorists are for sending threats and attacking people in the streets.
This sets up a dynamic where criminals act with impunity, but the full weight of security services falls on any efforts to organize a defense. This is a win-win for security bureaucracies, as they get to inflate their statistics while not actually being in any danger.
My own interpretation is the ICE is not yet subject to this type of corruption; hence, they are being targeted by MS-13 for individual assassination. Again, using my own take, the only way to really defend against this is to take limited extra-judicial steps when the threat becomes too real. This is where a corrupt US Justice Department comes in, putting the full weight of its national powers on police agencies that are generally within the law. This was especially bad, and devastating, under the Obama administration. Local police departments were threatened with lawsuits unless they basically backed off when face with crimes committed by blacks or immigrants.
This policy was reversed when Trump came into office, which is one reason why Ann Coulter defended Attorney General Sessions, although his lethargy in office with respect to any other issue proved a long and unjustified headache for the Trump administration.
