Gates of Vienna News Feed 3/8/2019

Due to a stochastic peculiarity in the ebb and flow of news feed tips, the entirety of tonight’s news feed was sent in by Reader From Chicago. And we thank him for an excellent variety of articles!

The most interesting story concerns Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, a Muslima who represents Minnesota’s 5th District in the U.S. Congress. She said in an interview that former President Barack Hussein Obama was just “a pretty face” who “got away with murder”. Ms. Omar averred that Mr. Obama was not really all that different from President Trump.

Trump Touts Wage Gains, Strength of the Economy After Labor Department Unveils Weak Job Report

President Trump touted wage gains made over the past year and the strength of the economy, as reporters pressed him on the weakest job report since September 2017, which was released Friday.

“Well, it’s a step. I think you will probably find out it averages out,” Trump told reporters. “The unemployment rate just went lower. We’re down now to 3.8 percent. So we had very good news in that. I think the big news really was that wages went up. And that’s great for the American worker.”

Britain Should Take EU Negotiators at Face Value and Just Leave, Says Brexit Rebel Eustice

The United Kingdom has failed to succeed in its Brexit negotiations with the European Union because it has played according to the same rules the bloc uses in all its internal business, which are designed specifically to always give the right outcome to Euro-federalists, Brexit rebel former minister George Eustice has claimed.

Slamming Britain’s approach, where it has acted as a passive member of the European Union in negotiations rather than a dynamic external power, former farming minister George Eustice — who quit the cabinet over the government’s Brexit failure last week — said the EU’s style was to give nations “a few crumbs to brandish back home” while taking power for itself.

  1. “the entirety of tonight’s news feed was sent in by Reader From Chicago. And we thank him for an excellent variety of articles!”

Yes, thank you very much !!

It requires much time and effort to find, format and send news items.

  2. “Elizabeth Warren wants to “break up” growing tech monopolies”

    Ronald B:

Your ideas have been noticed …..

    • Ronald:

I mean this in this most flattering manner possible.

Although Warren’s pathetic name is linked to this, please don’t think that I was making light of your ideas, which I think are spot on.

  3. Women seem to love anniversaries and birthdays and all kinds of special days, so here we go girls: It is for the greater good!

Wikipedia: After the Socialist Party of America organized a Women’s Day on February 28, 1909, in New York, the 1910 International Socialist Woman’s Conference suggested a Women’s Day be held annually. After women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia in 1917, March 8 became a national holiday there. The day was then predominantly celebrated by the socialist movement and communist countries until it was adopted in 1975 by the United Nations.

  4. re: Need More Women in Leadership

What we need is not simply more women in leadership positions but more GOOD women.

The Dalai Lama makes the blanket statement that women are more gentle and not prone to killing. Hillary Clinton is not such a woman.

I suspect that the truly good women who would make excellent, compassionate leaders are basically prevented and discouraged from reaching higher levels of government in the same manner that decent men find it difficult to get ahead.

  5. Stochastic! Wow, I had to look it up…..events or systems that are unpredictable due to the influence of a random variable.

    Thank you, noble wordsmiths.

    • Climate is a good example of a stochastic system. Which is why you can’t really “model” it…a useless endeavor.

        • Enthropic?? Do you mean entropic? I don’t think entropy accounts for the system that a stochastic process entails.

But I’ll check with the Baron; he’s the mathematician in the family. I’m just the chef and chief flibbertigibbet.

          • Entropy effects everything, the whole of the universe. One might consider entropy as a constant (it having a rate of change, deltaS = q/T) rather than a variable.

          • Yes re entropy. But its inexorable finality isn’t the equivalent of a stochastic process. They describe different things.

    • Nearly each day on this site I have to research a word !!

The high level of English language and intellect displayed here at GoV is refreshing and very necessary to help prevent what appears to be the impending total collapse of the King’s English and deep thought in the Western world.
