Gates of Vienna News Feed 3/12/2019

The British Parliament voted against Prime Minister Theresa May’s latest iteration of a Brexit deal. Next the Commons will vote on a “no-deal” Brexit, and if that fails, Brexit will be postponed.

In other news, a Saudi wedding was disrupted by a major explosion when a photographer stubbed his cigarette out in what he thought was a waste receptacle, but instead it turned out to be a bag of gunpowder. Several people were injured, including the photographer, who was severely burned. The gunpowder was kept on hand for a traditional wedding ritual known as the “Gun Dance”.

Facebook Reverses Zero Hedge Ban, Says it Made a “Mistake”

It has been a strange 24 hours.

On Monday, we first learned that for the previous two days, Facebook had banned all Zero Hedge content across its various mediums, as it went against Facebook’s “Community Standards” (which to the best of our knowledge, neither we not anyone else has any idea what they are), a decision which — as we noted yesterday — surprised us for two reasons: not only do we not have an official Facebook account, but Facebook did not approach us even once with a warning or even notification.

While we were in the dark about what had triggered Facebook, or what was the company’s motive, we were humbled and delighted not only with the media coverage this event received, but far more so with the outpouring of support we received from readers and across social media, where Zero Hedge had not been yet banned, like Twitter, where figures from various industries and across the political spectrum voiced support and came to our defense, with many condemning what we felt was an arbitrary decision.

Among those who spoke up were President Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr., Nigel Farage, Peter Thiel’s liberal foil at Thiel Capital, Eric Weinstein, Infowars’ Paul Joseph Watson and many others.

Felicity Huffman Released on Bail After Allegedly Bribing to Get Kid Into College as Part of Sweeping Admissions Scandal

BOSTON — Actress Felicity Huffman appeared in federal court Tuesday afternoon in Los Angeles following a morning arrest after federal prosecutors named the star as one of 50 people charged in the largest-ever college admissions conspiracyprosecuted by the Justice Department.

A judge said Huffman can be released on $250,000 bail but must restrict her travel to the continental United States. Husband William H. Macy attended his wife’s initial court appearance. He has not been charged in the scandal and authorities have not said why.

Federal prosecutors charged 33 affluent parents, including CEOs and actress Lori Loughlin, nine college athletics coaches and others in the sweeping bribery case to enter elite universities and colleges. The elaborate conspiracy involved cheating on the SAT and ACT and parents paying coaches “enormous sums” to get their children into schools by fabricating their athletic credentials.

Ocasio-Cortez Takes Gas Guzzling SUV to Lecture Americans About ‘Climate Change’ At SXSW

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made quite the splash at this year’s SXSW conference, and it wasn’t just for her attacks on capitalism or labeling Ronald Reagan a racist.

No, the youngest congresswoman in history is making a much bigger statement with her actions, and it’s clear they have nothing to do with the socialist policies she espouses in her Green New Deal.

Twitter user Antonia Ferrier — a PR rep and “recovering Senate GOP flak” — was the latest to take note of the millennial lawmaker’s blatant hypocrisy when she posted a picture Monday of the lawmaker’s arrival at the conference this weekend.

Trump Won’t Return to Negotiations With California on Fuel Efficiency Rollback, EPA’s Andrew Wheeler Says

The Trump administration won’t be returning to the negotiating table with California before finalizing a plan to roll back Obama-era fuel efficiency standards, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Andrew Wheeler said Monday.

Wheeler, in an interview with the Washington Examiner, said the Trump administration won’t compromise on its final proposal to be introduced early this spring, and will officially move to revoke a cherished waiver granted to California and other states to set tougher fuel efficiency rules.

“At this point, we have to move to finalize,” Wheeler said in the interview on the sidelines of the CERAWeek by IHS Markit energy industry conference in Houston. “We don’t have time to move to reopen [negotiations]. We tried to work with California, but we were just not able to. In California, politics was playing the bigger hand than the policy.”

Wheeler added the EPA, as part of the plan, will revoke California’s waiver to force it to comply with the weaker national rules proposed by the Trump administration, so all states follow the same rules, assuring the plan will be challenged in court.

“In order to have a 50-state solution, we have to take care of the waiver,” Wheeler said. “There probably will be legal action. We can’t stop that from happening. We hope it will be wrapped up rather quickly.”

The EPA, with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, last August proposed freezing Obama-era fuel efficiency rules for cars and light trucks, instead of raising them each year, between model years 2020 and 2026.[…]

France Reiterates Commitment to Bilateral TAV Accord

Paris has pumped in 400 mn euros, 55 mn available for 2019

(ANSA) — Rome, March 12 — France has reiterated its commitment to implementing the bilateral treaty with Italy on the Turin-Lyon TAV high-speed rail link project, French official sources said told ANSA on Tuesday.

The sources pointed out that this commitment was recently confirmed by French President Emmanuel Macron and Transport Minister Elisabeth Borne.

They said that France has pumped around 400 million euros into the project since the start of work and another 55 million are available for the French side of the project this year.

The Italian government is split over whether to press ahead with the project.

At the weekend Premier Giuseppe Conte told TELT, the Italian-French company building the tunnel for the rail link, to launch calls for tenders related to the project but without any operations entailing financial commitments from Rome.

The move was widely seen as a way to put off making a final decision on the TAV.

UK Parliament Votes on Theresa May’s Brexit Deal for Second and Probably Final Time

The House of Commons, Britain’s lower legislative chamber, is voting again on whether to accept Theresa May’s slightly modified Brexit deal which it already rejected in January.

The vote comes 32 months after the British people voted to leave the European Union by a margin of over a million votes, the largest democratic exercise in British history. The decision was a major upset to the British political class, which all but totally supported keeping the UK inside the EU, and has since been working on Brexit negotiations at near-snail’s pace, running down the clock on finding an answer on how to leave the European Union until the very last days until the country is legally mandated to leave the Union.

Syria: 200 ISIS Family Members Leave Baghouz, NGO

Dozens of jihadists killed. Kurdish sources: ‘Battle nears end’

BEIRUT — A reported 200 family members of ISIS militants over the past 24 hours were able to leave Baghouz in south-eastern Syria, the UK-based monitoring group Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Tuesday. According to sources on the ground, dozens of ISIS militants were killed over the past few hours in clashes with Kurdish forces and in air raids carried out by the US-led international Coalition.

The information cannot be independently verified on the ground.

Different Kurdish-Syrian sources were quoted as saying by pan-Arab media that the “battle is near the end”, although similar claims have been repeatedly denied over the past few days.

Venezuela’s Road to Disaster is Littered With Chinese Debt

Venezuela sits at the northern tip of South America with Columbia on the west and Guyana on the east. The country is collapsing. The constant blackouts have put hundreds of patients at risk and many have already died, food is rotting, and water is at a shortage. According to media reports, schoolchildren and oil workers have begun passing out from hunger, and sick Venezuelans have scoured veterinary offices for medicine. Link Malaria, measles, and diphtheria have returned with a vengeance. The country’s infrastructure is falling apart along with their decaying power grid, and telecommunication networks have collapsed.

America has offered humanitarian aid, but Maduro has rejected it. He is taking his cues from communist Havana. Unfortunately, Venezuela never diversified; oil dominates their exports and government revenue and barrel prices of oil are down.

With Venezuela’s collapse, Maduro is begging Beijing; China’s price will be high as Venezuela’s debt to them is already in the billions. Xi Jinping needs a presence of power that encourages foreign governments to believe they should play ball with Beijing, not Washington. And that means China’s increased military presence around the world, and what better place than Venezuela or one of her islands in the southern Caribbean.

Would Maduro risk U.S. ire by allowing Chinese basing rights? I think so. Maduro is already increasing his rhetoric against Washington and has repeatedly threatened Colombia. At the same time, the Venezuelan leader knows the U.S. and its allies believe he is an irredeemable despot: They want no part of a rapprochement with his regime.

The Venezuelan and Chinese economies seem like they could hardly have less in common. The government of Nicolas Maduro has looted the state-run oil monopoly company Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) to pay for the “Bolivarian revolution,” the socialist movement under the late leader Hugo Chavez. Eleven billion has been stolen from PDVSA in a decade…

In General Michael T. Flynn’s book, The Field of Flight, he states, “The war is on. We face a working coalition that extends from North Korea and China to Russia, Iran, Syria, Cuba, Bolivia, Venezuela, and Nicaragua. We are under attack, not only from nation-states directly, but also from al Qaeda, Hezbollah, ISIS, and countless other terrorist groups. Suffice to say, the same sort of cooperation binds together jihadis, Communists, and garden-variety tyrants.”

“Once we bailed out of Iraq in 2011, the power of the Islamic Republic immediately expanded and rapidly filled the void left by our departure. The mullahs have already established strategic alliances in our own hemisphere with Cuba and Venezuela and are working closely with Russia and China.”

General Michael T. Flynn is absolutely correct.

What Happens to America if Trump is Not Reelected in 2020?

With Trump out of the way, stopping Democrats from passing their law to murder babies after they are born will be extremely challenging.

Democrats are pushing for government controlled health-care based on the “quality of life” rather than God’s “sanctity of life”. In other words, a board will decide whether or not the quality of your life is worth government spending money to preserve it. If they decide you are too old to spend money on or if you own a gun, the board will say no surgery for you. Folks, I’m talkin’ government death panels assuming the role of God; deciding who lives and who dies.

Democrat congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is fake news media’s rock star; their female version of Obama. Like Obama, fake news media promotes every crazy stupid idea out of AOC’s mouth as brilliance beyond our comprehension.

AOC’s wacko Green New Deal includes by 2030: ending air travel; ending the use of fossil fuels; mandating that every new job be unionized; decommissioning every nuclear plant; rebuilding every building in America for state-of-the-art energy efficiency and government funding everyone including deadbeats who refuse to work.

Don’t laugh folks. A dozen Democrat senators of which six are presidential candidates and 90 House Democrats cosponsored AOC’s idiotic Green New Deal. Many Americans do not realize that Democrats will sacrifice our economy, jobs, national security and even American lives to feed their all consuming obsession with gaining power to control every aspect of our lives.

  1. Regarding elderly Swedes and young kultur enrichers sharing communal housing, at least the enrichers will no longer have to worry about freezing off appendages as they roam the streets looking for Swedes to rape. “Meals on Wheels”, as it were. Who knows, the feminist superpower might even make a few additional Sweden Democrats out of the elderly residents.

results of the votes last September down to single voting districts.
Click e.g. the southern tip of Sweden in the map and then click on the yellow areas or enter e.g. “Ljusnarsberg” and then click the map that appears.

Where middle class families live in their own houses who have immediate experience with “cultural enrichment” the Sweden Democrats already scored around 40%; e.g. in the surroundings of Malmö or in the rust belt of middle Sweden (Bergslagen). Total average was 17,5% and this because the establishement took immigration politics of SD in their mouths. The genie is out of the bottle.

  2. Maybe this news is somewhere in English.

In Catalonia, there are clashes between local youth and migrants.

Authorities guard the shelter for underage migrants

On March 8–9, in the Catalan city of Castelldefels, three major fights occurred between local youths of 17–24 years old and underage migrants living in the Cal Ganxo orphanage from December 2018. The first clash occurred on the street, during the second about 25 young people broke into a shelter, spoiled property and attacked caregivers and migrants. On the morning of March 10, 60 Catalans attempted to storm Cal Ganxo, but were stopped by the police. The shelter is still guarded.

  3. The European Parliament on Tuesday voiced “profound concern’ on the risks to IT security from 5G networks developed by Chinese firms and warned member States to make sure there is a “coordinated response from the EU”.

Chinese Huawei is unbeatable value-for-money in the telecom business. But it seems like Ericsson and Nokia are striking back, and in this case it seems like a sort of “Diesel-Gate” in a sense they are using politicians to beat their competition out of Europe.

If anyone’s worried about the spying aspect of mobile networks: They all spy, but I can also appreciate that our European spies do not want Chinese spying hardware in our network. Chinese are rather unreliable when it comes to honesty, and I don’t trust them neither.

  4. The mad cow, PM MAY, has mucked everything up again. Why do women vote for these conwomen like Gillibrand, Cillins, Klobuchar, HRC, and Kamala?

    • They couldn’t be elected without the help of quite a few logic-challenged males. Such pathetic examples of female “leadership” and the morons who elect them serve as textbook examples for why franchise should be limited to only those with skin in the game.

  5. what happened at the Saudi wedding is further proof that cigarette smoking is hazardous to your health

      • As I mentioned in my intro, it’s for a traditional wedding activity known as the “Gun Dance”. And no, I am not making this up.

        • As I mentioned in my intro, it’s for a traditional wedding activity known as the “Gun Dance”.

Since this deals with Islamic festivities, isn’t “Gun Dance” a little redundant?

And no, I am not making this up.

Why bother? PoMo Progs and Muslims conspire daily to provide this planet with a cornucopic Tragi-Comic Buffet™. Long ago this dynamic duo transcended YJCMTSU (You Just Can’t Make This Stuff Up) and metamorphosed into TSWI (This Stuff Writes Itself)—with”Stuff” being an acronymic prop…

While an incredible time saver for joke writers everywhere, the world would be a better place without either cult’s grim humor.

      • Several years ago at a wedding in a moslem nation, a few men were shot and killed by gunfire as the men did their traditional ‘shooting of the guns’. It is normally performed outside with the guns pointed up into the sky. Perhaps a few scores had to be settled from previous disputes.

  6. If my memory serves me, then Sheffield is the city of Robin Hood.
    https://www.fahrenheit211.net/2019/03/12/its-sheffields-turn-now-to-be-graced-by-an-islamic-rape-gang-accusation/

Slavs love all sorts of their famous corpses to draw on the banners and run with them and scream. In this case, they would have already run through the streets with flags of “Robin Hood come – order brought”

It seems to me that in the world there are only a few states that care about their citizens. All the rest are some kind of cannibalistic allegories to states.

    • I like the Bible’s take on this topic, my King is not of this world. Or in the words of a prophet, when free Israelites demanded themselves a king:

“This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots. And he will appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his chariots. And he will take your daughters to be confectionaries, and to be cooks, and to be bakers. And he will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, even the best of them, and give them to his servants.”

    • Rappers should be safe.

The 5 kg of gold jewelry they wear will flash in the headlights.

  7. Cigarette Explosion Rocks Saudi Wedding

After all, how many of us can honestly say that at one time or another in their lives they haven’t brought a large bag of loose gunpowder to someone’s wedding?

    I know I have.

  8. “…Panicked churchgoers fled in terror after a man yelled “Allahu Akbar” during the funeral of a German woman who was brutally murdered by her Muslim migrant boyfriend…” – However contrary to the noble values of humanism and diversity, the outcome of such experiment in Serbia or Russia would be quite different… If an invader screamed “Allahu akbar” among 500 infidels at the funeral march of a halal-slaughtered victim, he would be asking for his own funeral. Or long and painful hospital stay with multiple debilitating traumas.
