Gates of Vienna News Feed 1/14/2019

Prime Minister Theresa May said that blocking Brexit or holding a new referendum would be a “subversion of democracy”. However, she also warned Brexit supporters that the political class will most likely prevent Brexit rather than allow a “no deal” version of it. Meanwhile, Tory supporters of Brexit are mustering for tomorrow’s vote in the Commons. One party whip resigned his post so he could vote against Mrs. May’s deal.

In other news, a new poll shows that the majority of Americans agree with Donald Trump that there is a crisis on the southern border due to illegal immigration and drug trafficking.

Chairman of Harvard Astronomy Says “Oumuamua” Object is “Reconnaissance Spaceship… Deliberately Sent to the Inner Solar System”

For thousands of years human civilization has documented objects in the sky. With the advent of instant video sharing, we’ve seen hundreds, perhaps thousands of cases of unidentified flying objects. Scientists and governments have discounted the vast majority of these instances as meteors, asteroids, man-made rocket tests or weather balloons.

But on October 19, 2017, a Canadian astronomer saw an anomaly floating through our solar system that can’t be so easily dismissed.

The object, dubbed “Oumuamua,” is the first ever object detected by humans that originated outside of our own solar system. Moreover, what makes Oumuamua even more intriguing is that as it rounded the sun it accelerated in such a way that our known laws of physics simply can’t explain it.

That is, unless the object has its own propulsion system, which would in turn suggest that it is not naturally occurring, but rather, deliberately built by an advanced civilization.

The claim sounds like an Ancient Aliens conspiracy theory, until you realize that the scientists behind the theory is none other than Avi Loeb, Chairman of Harvard University’s Astronomy department and founding director of The Black Hole Initiative. And while most scientists would never risk their careers over wild and outlandish claims, Loeb says he has enough tenure to not be concerned about it. That and he believes his analysis is accurate.

Chris Evans Suggests Lindsey Graham is Being Blackmailed: ‘What Do They Have on You?’

Democrat Makes Violent Threat if Trump Declares National Emergency

Democrats are fighting mad over the impasse between President Trump and Nancy Pelosi that has resulted in a government shutdown over funding of border security and one of them has once again suggested that violence is a legitimate solution to political differences.

This time it is Rep. Mike Levin of California’s 49th congressional district and the freshman exemplifies the new far-left radicalism that has gripped the party and their ANTIFA and socialist hate mobs that are clamoring for open revolution.

Levin took to Twitter to inveigh against Trump and call for fighting in the streets if he uses his presidential powers to declare a national emergency over the deteriorating situation at the border.

Firefox 69 Will Have Flash Disabled by Default

According to Mozilla’s plugin roadmap, the firm planned to disable Flash by default in Firefox sometime this year. Now, a new bug filing has revealed that the plugin will be disabled as of Firefox 69 which is due for release on September 3, 2019. Mozilla will disable Flash beginning with the Nightly builds before it works its way down to the Stable channel.

The disabling of Flash comes in anticipation of Adobe ending support for its Flash plugin at the end of 2020. Mozilla has said that it will completely remove Flash support for consumer versions of Firefox in early 2020, while the Extended Support Release (ESR) version will have support until the end of the year. In 2021, Mozilla has said that Firefox will refuse entirely to load the plugin due to a lack of security updates from Adobe.

House Democrats’ Gun Control Unenforceable Without Firearm Registry

The gun control currently being pushed by House Democrats is unenforceable without a national firearm registry.

Instead, the Democrats keep talking of how their bill will “prevent” or reduce “gun violence.”

Magma Under the Yellowstone Supervolcano is “Rising”, and Scientists Warn That an Eruption Would Devastate the Entire Planet

All over the world seismic activity has been increasing in recent years, and this process seems to have accelerated during the early days of 2019

Could it be possible that a full-blown eruption of the Yellowstone supervolcano is not too far away?

All over the world seismic activity has been increasing in recent years, and this process seems to have accelerated during the early days of 2019. In particular, quite a few once dormant volcanoes are springing to life again, and this has many concerned about what could potentially happen at Yellowstone. Of course Yellowstone has never been “dormant”, but there have been new signs of life over the past six months. Entirely new geysers have sprung out of the ground, Steamboat Geyser has been the most active that it has been in decades, and some geysers have even been shooting “debris and rocks” into the sky. And now we are being told that “a 465-mile-long piece of molten rock” is “rising” directly under Yellowstone…

We are talking about a disaster that is on a scale that most of us couldn’t even imagine, and it would instantly render most of the country completely uninhabitable. The following is an extended excerpt from one of my previous articles about Yellowstone…

Philadelphia’s Soda War

A tax on sweetened beverages harms businesses and achieves none of its goals.

Philadelphia’s outlandish soda tax is what Democratic-party politics looks like when it lets its freak flag fly. So many classic elements are there: (failed) social engineering and “think of the children!” on one side, paid for with a punitive tax on poor people and destroyed businesses, which means destroyed jobs, which in turn means lives upended. What lives? Greedy capitalists with monocles, maybe? No, they’ll be fine. Think of ex-cons trying to regain their footing in society.

Delingpole: Britain’s Brexit Betrayal Conservatives Are the Walking Dead

We voted for Brexit. And now the political class is ganging up to stop us getting Brexit.

It thinks, as my fat pillock of a QC friend does, that once they’ve explained to us — using ugly phrases like “it’s about the numbers” and “we have to find common ground between Remain and Leave” and “John Bercow” — why we can’t get what we want, we’ll all go: “Oh yeah! Stupid us. We thought we could have Brexit but we now realise that the answer was staring us in the face all along. We can’t have Brexit because reasons…”

But we won’t react that way. Rather we’ll get very angry and we’ll look for revenge. The most obvious targets for this revenge will be the Conservatives government — or governments if you count David Cameron’s and Theresa May’s as separate entities rather than two ends of the same turd — which promised to honour our referendum vote but which then proceeded to break that promise.

This doesn’t augur well for the Conservatives. In fact it will certainly be the most damaging, self-destructive decision they have made since 1846 when Sir Robert Peel’s Tory government repealed the Corn Laws.

Germany: Battering-Ram Attack on Homeschoolers Gets Court OK

The European Court of Human Rights has issued a ruling supporting a decision by German authorities to demand parents relinquish their children to state socialization in public schools, accompanied by the right of government to remove those children — through methods including police battering-ram assaults on the family home — to make sure that happens.

The stunning verdict comes in the case involving the Wunderlich family, on whose trials WND has reported over the years.

It was in August 2013 that WND’s report on the battering-ram attack grabbed the attention of millions of readers.

At the time, four children, ages 7-14, of Dirk and Petra Wunderlich were forcibly carried out of their parents’ home by police officers. Those cops had arrived while they were homeschooling, and were armed with a battering ram to knock down the front door.

Dirk Wunderlich’s quick actions, in seeing the officers out the window and noticing their attack preparations and then opening the door, prevented the actual physical attack.

But his children were taken by the government, kept in detention for several weeks, and only later returned. But even then the government refused to give parental authority over the children back to their parents.

“As M5S member of parliament, after having paid back over 200,000 euros, I am so clean that they no longer find anything to attack me with except for through those I care about. I will sue anyone who has spread or will spread false or defamatory information on my mother,” she said.

Italy Building Anti-EU Axis

Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini is leading an effort to create a pan-European populist alliance to challenge the pro-European establishment over the future of the European Union. The aim is to reclaim sovereignty from unelected bureaucrats in Brussels and transfer key EU powers back to national capitals.

Germany and France, the self-appointed guardians of European integration, are responding to the challenge with an ambitious counterplan to make the European Union a “more decisive power on the world stage.”

Lessons We Seem Unwilling to Learn

The question to ask is why are there so many people in the Muslim community who would object to such an exhibition and why these extremists have so much sway (as opposed merely to being an embittered fringe) that they can actually get their way. If a church in Britain put on an exhibition about the Holocaust, it would not be forced to cancel it under pressure from any Holocaust-denying Anglicans.

So what is it about the fragility, and vulnerability of the Muslim community to the dictates of extremists that we can learn from an episode such as this one?

Quite a lot, I would suggest. Which is one of the reasons why there has been so little focus. Because what can be learned from such events are lessons that, as a society, we still seem distinctly unwilling to learn.

The EU Offers Its Members a Terrible Choice: Integration or Democracy

Politicians will sacrifice anything to meet Brussels’ requirements

The EU is not only undemocratic in itself; it also degrades the internal democracy of its constituent nations.

Canadian Sentenced to Death in China After Being Found Guilty of Drug Smuggling

A Canadian man convicted of smuggling an “enormous amount of drugs” into China has been sentenced to death by a Chinese court in a case that will likely further strain relations between Ottawa and Beijing.

A former oil worker, Robert Lloyd Schellenberg, was initially arrested back in 2015 on suspicion of smuggling more than 200 kilograms of methamphetamine into China. In November 2018, he was sentenced to 15 years in jail and a fine amounting to 150,000 yuan ($22,185).

The Canadian, who claims to be innocent and accuses China of framing him, appealed his case — but his appeal apparently backfired as the Chinese prosecutors considered his sentence too lenient and demanded a harsher one.

Brazil’s New President Declares the End of Socialism & Political Correctness

Leftist ideology is waning thanks to failed globalist policies.

In recent years, Brazilian politics was dominated by progressive leftist ideology.

Black Lives Matter demonized the Brazilizan police, while far left politicians began limiting their power. Eventually the drug cartels began policing the streets.

And with over 60 thousand murders a year, a young Brazilian man has less chance of survival than a soldier in an active war zone. This paved the way for former army captain Jair Bolsonaro to win the presidency in a historical landslide victory.

Immediately upon being sworn in, they passed a bill to provide police and soldiers freedom from prosecution while on active duty.

They announced a plan for jail reform that will isolate the cartel leaders, seperate the gangs, and terminate the use of mobile phones within the jail.

Immediately following this, the gangs struck out against the new government. The Brazilian cartels burned and bombed dozens of public targets including buildings, bridges, buses, and banks.

Bolsonaro responded by sending 300 soldiers into the Favelas to root out and attack the cartels

And he is sending in more.

It appears as if Brazil is about to wage war against the drug cartels. And allow law abiding citizens to own firearms.

Afghan Stabs Polish Woman in German Hospital, Killing Unborn Baby

A pregnant Polish woman suffered life-threatening injuries and lost her unborn baby in a knife attack by an Afghan migrant at a hospital in Germany.

Police said an argument broke out at St. Marienwörth Hospital in Bad Kreuznach, west Germany, at around 6 p.m. on Friday, after which the 25-year-old victim was stabbed several times in the stomach.

The woman’s condition stabilised following emergency surgery but her baby died a short time after the operation, according to local media, which reported that the perpetrator surrendered himself to police shortly after the attack, after initially having fled the hospital.

Speaking out after the attack, Alternative for Germany (AfD) MP Petr Bystron remarked that “illegal immigration is not mercy — it is murder”, noting that Germany has suffered rising crime rates since Chancellor Angela Merkel opened the country’s border to well over a million migrants in 2015.

Linking German problems with illegal immigration to the ones highlighted by President Donald Trump in North America, the populist MP told U.S. news outlet Gateway Pundit: “The simple fact is: if you are willing to break a country’s laws to get in, you are probably willing to break them again once you are in — with horrible, tragic consequences for the most vulnerable members of society.”

Gov. Gavin Newsom Commits Financial Suicide for the State of California by Expanding Taxpayer-Funded Health Care Coverage to Illegal Immigrants

The economic illiteracy of newly-elected California governor Gavin Newsom was on full display right after his inauguration ceremony. As his first act as governor, Newsom signed a series of executive orders that fine California citizens without healthcare coverage, while financially catering to illegal immigrants and demanding federal assistance for healthcare coverage for illegal immigrants. California governor Gavin Newsom is committed to pillaging California’s hard-working population with higher taxes, while providing illegal immigrants the funds they need for unnecessary healthcare spending…

The executive order also mandates Obama-era fines on individuals who cannot afford or do not want to purchase health insurance plans. This is one way the California governor plans to pay for illegals’ access to more prescription drugs and doctor visits. “To pay for increased financial help for families, the budget proposes fighting back against the federal government’s attempts to destroy the Affordable Care Act by reinstating the individual mandate at the state level,” Newsom’s office said.

If California cannot recoup the money through fines, they will attempt to take the money from the rest of the country’s taxpayers. Newsom has already sent a letter to President Trump and congressional leaders, demanding that federal laws be amended to enable California to apply for and receive “Transformational Cost and Universal Coverage Waivers.” In other words, California’s illegal immigrant population is entitled to the taxpayer funds from every other state. Newsom’s letter says this will “empower California to truly innovate and to begin trans-formative reforms that provide the path to a single-payer health care system.” What a con artist!

Here’s Another Border Wall Getting High Marks

Do border walls work?

Yes, they do, say Israelis who built a particularly troublesome barrier six years ago in cooperation with Egypt.

Today, says Ofer Israeli, an international security expert, says it has almost completely halted the mass movement of illegal migration from Africa, other human trafficking problems and provided defense against terrorist attacks.

Human trafficking “is almost zero now,” he says.

It is one of the border barriers inspected by Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen six months ago when officials in the U.S. were looking for ideas for President Trump’s Mexico wall.

“Border security is national security,” said Nielsen at the time. “Our Israeli partners know that better than anyone and I was fortunate today to see the incredible work they’re doing to keep their territory and citizens safe.”

While a government shutdown is still in place over Trump’s call for Congress to approve $5.7 billion in funding for of the wall, Israel built its border wall for just $380 million. It is 143 miles wide and is between 15 and 24 feet in height. It took three years to complete.

“The obstacle separates two entities: Israel and Egypt,” said Israeli. “Today, inside Egypt, there are groups that view Israel as a target for attack. Here, too, the fence has managed to decrease friction both because of the physical obstacle, which is difficult to overcome, and because of the sensors installed on it.”

The setting up of dedicated IDF units whose goal is to patrol the fence and prevent cross-border infiltrations into Israel, is a major part of the barrier’s success, he stated. Another positive side effect has also been the decrease in cross-border narcotics-smuggling, according to Israeli.

“The quantity of drugs coming has significantly dropped,” he said.

Michael Cutler: Immigration ‘Crisis’ A ‘Delivery System’ For Elites

Former Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) official Michael Cutler says the current “crisis” of mass illegal and legal immigration to the United States is the direct result of “globalists going back decades.”

Free Speech is Dead in Canada: The Persecution of Christian Activist Bill Whatcott

We’ re already on that totalitarian road. Canada is just farther along.

In the past year, I witnessed two frightening assaults on free speech by a kangaroo “justice” system. This wasn’t in some banana republic, North Korea, or China; it was in Canada. These were gut-wrenching experiences for me.

These stories from Canada are potent warnings to the U.S.

If Congress and more states pass anti-discrimination “equality” laws giving special protection to LGBTQ identities, “hate speech” prosecutions and compelled speech will surely follow.

There can be no doubt of that, given the LGBT-driven lawsuits we have already seen against florists, bakers, and wedding photographers. The Civil Rights Commission of Colorado has tried to compel speech from Jack Phillips of Masterpiece Cakeshop. We’re seeing numerous battles over bathroom use and forced use of silly pronouns in our media, colleges, and public schools. The EEOC already interprets Title VII (employment) to protect employees from “sexual orientation” discrimination.

So, we’re already on that totalitarian road; Canada is just farther along.

An Enemy of the Canadian State

The victim of Canada’s repressive “injustice” system is Bill Whatcott, a pro-family born-again Christian activist. He is about to have his life ruined by the courts in Canada (with fines, possible jail time, ruined employment prospects, social ostracism). But he will not bend to tyranny and is standing for free speech.

Whatcott’s two ongoing cases are discussed below.

December 2018: His “hate speech” hearing before the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal (with further court action pending). Hundreds of thousands in fines may be assessed. 2019: His ongoing $104-million lawsuit in Toronto for a “hate crime” (preceded by his June 2018 arrest on a national criminal warrant).

What terrible “hate crimes” did Whatcott commit? The Orwellian tyrants in Canada deem it criminal to speak the truth about transgender ideology and the health hazards of homosexuality. Furthermore, he speaks from the unwanted Christian viewpoint. Then he adds a dash of humor. And so he has become an Enemy of the State in Canada.

Guest Opinion: Why Climate Change Isn’t Science

[…]

Global warming appealed to the press’s appetite for calamity and became an instant hit. The headlines wrote themselves: The poles will melt! The oceans will rise! Lakes and rivers will dry up! Farmlands will become deserts! Millions will starve to death! This was big. Government would have to join the fight.

In the nineties, environmentalists switched their emphasis to “Climate Change” This was a marketing move. Global warming could credibly be blamed for warming, but climate change could be blamed for anything. If hurricanes increase one year, that’s evidence of climate change. If they decrease the next year, well, that’s climate change too. Droughts are caused by climate change, but so are exceptional rains. Warmer winters prove climate change, but so do colder winters. (Claiming that frigid temperatures are caused by global warming would sound ridiculous.) “Climate Change” was disaster gold. It couldn’t be disproved. …

Strictly speaking, “Climate Change” theory isn’t really a scientific theory at all. It doesn’t take into relevant account factors which arguably have a far stronger effect upon climate than CO2, like the sun, ocean currents, and the greatest greenhouse gas of them all, water vapor.

What “Climate Change” is, is a bunch of doomsday predictions. Now, predictions are the critical part of the scientific method. They are what enable a theory to be proven or disproven. If they prove false, they’re also the best way to refute a theory.

Climate change alarmists have made lots of predictions. Perhaps too many, because not one of their predictions whose expiration date has passed has proven correct. Here’s a sampling, courtesy of Anthony Watts at wattsupwiththat.com: …

Progressive Indoctrination in Church

I became aware that the “Head Start” program for preschool children is not simply preparation for elementary school work when this federally funded program trickled into a church in Maine during Sunday School. I was music director at the time (the 1980s), and the choir gathered in the church’s assembly hall before the start of each Sunday service, as children gathered for their Sunday session.

Wittingly or not, the church had allowed a de facto collusion between secular and sacred teaching. Unsuspecting families were in fact exposing their children to ideas more in line with paganism than with Christianity. It was a subtle form of indoctrination. I was not amused when I saw, among the children’s playthings, dolls of both sexes that were “anatomically correct.” Parents who might justifiably object to this public display of what was formerly a private matter were out of luck.

Unmistakable evidence of tampering with Christian doctrine came during the Sunday School lessons. Children were being made to understand that Jesus was not at all different from you or me, that He was simply an extra-nice and loving man. The Christian tenets that He is the Son of God, divine, and without sin were details left out of the narrative. The relation between Jesus and His Father — to whom the adults on the other side of the church wall would pray (“Our Father…”) — was also omitted. And God loves you, no matter what you do was the only side of Christian theology emphasized. The “go and sin no more” side was not even whispered.

Psychologists “Affirm Without Doubt” The Evidence for Imminent Climate Catastrophe

According to Psychology Today contributors Sara Gorman, Ph.D., MPH, and Jack M. Gorman, MD, psychologists are united in their determination to help climate “deniers” face the need for urgent climate action to prevent imminent human extinction, though they are uncertain about how to deliver group therapy to millions of people in the same session.

“But there are also many points that are clear and not subject to legitimate debate. We can affirm without doubt that anthropogenic climate change is a real phenomenon that is already apparent and will, if not mitigated, cause terrible suffering and destruction before this century is over. A recent report from the United Nations-sponsored Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change tells us we can still hope to avert some of the catastrophic consequences of climate change, but only if we “abandon coal and other fossil fuels in the next decade or two.” Scientists may disagree about how fast the atmosphere is warming or what the best solutions are, but except for a small number of outliers, none doubt that we are rapidly approaching climate catastrophe.

That a few misguided politicians believe climate change predictions are exaggerated or even fabricated is lamentable. But perhaps more puzzling is the lack of alarm among the general public. As monumental hurricanes lash out in Houston and Puerto Rico and California forests burn out of control, it would seem that the evidence that climate scientists are right would be clear enough. Almost annually meteorologists tell us we have just experienced the warmest year in recorded history. Yet even people who experience extreme weather events often still refuse to report the experience as a manifestation of climate change. Polls tell us that many people are worried about climate change, but that does not seem to motivate much willingness to take action to mitigate it. Others deny that climate change is either occurring at all or that it represents any significant threat to civilization. …

Climate change denial is in some ways a new mental process for psychologists to understand. Of course, the concept of denial itself is well understood. Psychologists consider denial—the refusal to accept facts in order to protect us from uncomfortable truths—to be a primitive defense mechanism.

But despite the fact that psychologists know a lot about denial, they have never had to face denial on this scale before. Millions of people share the phenomenon of climate denial. This is clearly not something that is amenable to individual or even group psychotherapy. …

Organizations like Climate Psychiatry Alliance and Climate Psychology Alliance have been formed not only to point out the severe consequences of climate change for emotional and behavioral health but also to lend expertise in determining how best to overcome climate change denial. For these and similar organizations, climate change denial constitutes an emergency that demands immediate attention. We need urgent attention to developing and implementing the best practices for overcoming public despair and inaction and increasing the motivation to demand large-scale climate change mitigation action.”

The American Psychological Association Issues New Guidelines That Say “Traditional Masculinity Can Hurt Boys”

Should we be teaching young boys to reject traditional masculinity? According to the American Psychological Association, that is precisely what we should be doing. In this day and age, “traditional masculinity” has been renamed “toxic masculinity”, and an all-out attempt is being made to eradicate traditional forms of male behavior from our society. We see this happening in our classrooms, we see this happening in popular culture, and lately this new agenda is being constantly pushed by the mainstream media. For example, the New York Times just published a piece about the new guidelines for men that the American Psychological Association recently issued. Their article was entitled “Traditional Masculinity Can Hurt Boys, Say New A.P.A. Guidelines”, and it suggests that we need to totally redefine what it means “to be a man”…

In other words, they want men to become weak, feminine under-achievers that never take risks and never go on adventures.

And to a significant degree, the elite have already made quite a bit of progress in removing traditional masculinity from our society. Today, millions upon millions of American men feel lost, defeated and beaten down…

But instead of embracing masculinity, the solution that the American Psychological Association is pushing is to try to eradicate it altogether.

They openly admit that they are trying to “change” the culture, and they argue that traditional masculinity had been hindering our society “by conferring benefits to men and by trapping them in narrow roles”…

UK: ‘Transgender’ Children as Young as Ten Legally Changing Names Rising

The number of cases of parents are using Deed Poll to legally change the gendered names and titles of their children has risen significantly, as more children claim to be transgender.

The UK Deed Poll Service has found that at least one under-16 is having his title changed from “Master” to “Miss” or vice versa every day, usually accompanied with a change to the child’s birth name, reports the Sunday Times.

Children must have the consent of the parents to change title and/or name, and the service comes with a fee of £35…

Breitbart London reported in November on one teacher who warned that children believing they were the wrong gender were appearing in clusters in her schools, with older ‘transgender’ children grooming and coaching younger, vulnerable children.

The whistleblower teacher had said that the majority of the 17 transgender pupils at her school were socially awkward girls or those with mental health issues…

Unscrupulous medical professionals prescribing hormone suppressants to underaged children — the NHS guidelines say children under 16 should not be prescribed body-altering drugs — are also contributing to the phenomenon.

Dr Helen Webberley, from Wales, was found guilty of illegally prescribing sex-change hormones to children as young as 12 and of running an illegal clinic in December. Her husband, also a doctor, said he would continue his wife’s work at Gender GP.

1,400 Years of Jihad and Islamic Terror, Well Told by Robert Spencer

Robert Spencer is the man, the best prepared person to write a comprehensive history of the horrors of Islam.

And he has.

Spencer’s The History of Jihad: From Muhammad to ISIS is an amazing book, extraordinary in its detail and riveting in its narratives and analysis.

This book documents the history of horrors, violence, brutality, oppression, conquests by the sword, beheadings of hundreds of thousands (probably millions), destruction of civilizations and cultures, corruption, deception, and lies that are part of the Islamist culture, and every other evil that you can imagine that one group of humans could impose on others in the name of an ideology or, in this case, a pseudo-religion. The book is a comprehensive history of the role of war and terror in the spread of Islam, and the book details 1,400 years of sheer evil with no relief, imposed on the Middle East, Eastern Europe, North Africa, the Iberian Peninsula, India, and Asia. The only let-up in these killings that ever came was when some of the cultures and civilizations successfully repulsed the monsters, or else were conquered and then violently and rapidly subdued.

Spencer briskly traces the 1,400-year war of Islamic jihadis against the rest of the world, detailing the jihad against Europe, including the 700-year struggle to conquer Constantinople; the jihad in Spain, where non-Muslims fought for another 700 years to get the jihadi invaders out of the country; and the jihad against India, where Muslim warriors and conquerors wrought unparalleled and unfathomable devastation in the name of their religion.

Spencer adds to the drama and impact by telling much of the tale in the words of contemporary chroniclers themselves, both Muslim and non-Muslim. The History of Jihad shows that jihad warfare has been a constant of Islam from its very beginning, its major focus.
