Kepler and Gaia Team Up to Confirm 104 New Exoplanets

Although NASA’s powerhouse planet-hunting mission has technically ended, its data is still helping astronomers find a wealth of new worlds.

The Kepler space telescope might have run out of fuel a few months ago, but astronomers are still using its data to uncover a slew of new worlds.

Using stats from ESA’s Gaia mission and Kepler’s K2 mission, an extension of Kepler’s original planet-finding mission, two recent studies have confirmed the existence of a total of 104 new exoplanets. Their characteristics stretch far and wide, including multi-planet systems, rocky terrestrial worlds, and planets that orbit dangerously close to their host stars. These newfound bodies can be used to understand how different types of planets form, and also give next-generation telescopes promising worlds to investigate. Two papers describing these findings were published August 2 and November 26 in The Astronomical Journal.

New Species of Giant Salamander Discovered in Florida

THERE HAVE BEEN whispers for decades that a creature with the spots of a leopard and the body of an eel lurked in the swamps of Florida and Alabama. Rumor had it the animal was as long as a man’s arm, with glistening gray skin, and frills on either side of its face.

But unlike Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster, this animal is real. And today scientists have given it a name: the reticulated siren.

The administrator, identified by the Stanford Review as “Mr. Z,” suggested that Sigma Chi take the flag down. This was during a period when the frat was trying to bring itself back into good standing with the school so that it could resume operations, which ultimately did not happen.

Trump Mocks Macron: Glad “Yellow Vest” Protesters Agree With Me

President Trump indulged in some amicable schadenfreude as Paris, the capital city of his one-time “friend” Emmanuel Macron, is rocked by violent and sometimes deadly protests over proposed gas tax increases.

With the memory of Macron’s subtle diss last month during a speech to world leaders at the Arc de Triomphe still clearly fresh in his mind, Trump gloated on twitter that he was “glad that my friend @EmmanuelMacron and the protestors in Paris have agreed with the conclusion I reached two years ago. The Paris Agreement is fatally flawed because it raises the price of energy for responsible countries while whitewashing some of the worst polluters.” Trump famously withdrew the US from the Paris Accord last year over terms that he said benefited China’s economy at the expense of the US.

Wisconsin Man Hospitalized After Homemade Bomb Explodes While Making Explosive

STERLING TOWNSHIP, Wisc. (FOX 9)- Deputies in Polk County, Wisconsin responded to a call for a man that had “blown his hand off” while he was making the explosive Tuesday, according to a release.

When police arrived at the Sterling Township residence, they found the man with the serious and life-threatening injuries to his hand and had burns to other parts of his body.

An air ambulance responded to the scene and took the man to Regions Hospital for care. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office does not know the man’s condition and did not identify him in a release Wednesday.

When they responded, deputies found chemicals inside the residence that they deemed suspicious. After securing the residence, the Marathon-Oneida County Bomb Squad was requested to assist in containing the explosives.

Bomb technicians told police there were chemicals located that could be mixed together to produce explosive material.

End of Merkel: Friedrich Merz CDU Victory This Weekend Could Spark Imminent Exit

Angela Merkel faced a crushing defeat after the CDU voted for her to step down as leader in September, after 13 years of leading Germany’s top conservative political party. Mrs Merkel’s authority was called into question over her handling of Germany’s “open migration” policy, when she allowed 1.1 million refugees passage into Germany at the height of the European migrant crisis. It resulted in the German leader announcing she would not stand for CDU leadership at the party convention this month and as Chancellor in 2021.

But will two opponents for the next CDU leadership term — the victor of which will be announced on December 10 — spell the end of Mrs Merkel’s chancellorship before the federal elections in 2021?

Global Attack on Gender Studies

The decision by the Hungarian government earlier this fall to withdraw accreditation from gender studies programs — a full-frontal governmental assault on an academic discipline — sent shock waves through the field.

Gender studies “has no business [being taught] in universities,” because it is “an ideology not a science,” a deputy to Hungary’s prime minister, Zsolt Semjen, told the international news agency Agence France-Presse.

Semjen also said labor market demand for the field was “close to zero.”

“No one wants to employ a gender-ologist,” Semjen said.

Yet even if the scale of the assault on gender studies in Hungary was shocking, the rhetoric was not. Gender studies scholars say what happened in Hungary is the most extreme manifestation of what seem to be growing attacks on the discipline as right-wing populist parties gain power or influence in many countries around the globe.

  1. “Germany Gives Top Security Job to Official Who Thought Christmas Market Terrorist Was ‘Harmless’”

It is astonishing and regrettable that Voice of Europe, responsible for the above story, and all other alternative media sources in Germany and Anglophone countries are still refusing to mention the revelations on pp. 297-321 in the August 2018 book by ex-cop Stefan Schubert, “Die Destabiliserung Deutschlands”, the Destabilisation of Germany.

Quoting anonymous ex-colleagues still in the police and directly involved in counter-terrorism, Schubert writes that the Xmas Market bomber Anis Amri was part of a CIA operation. Schubert’s sources tried in vain to raise the alarm but, like their colleagues in the FBI when pursuing Israeli espionage in the US, were ordered by their superiors to cease and desist.

Hence the official named in the story will have known exactly how harmful Anis Amri was, but like all high-level others in the police, will have obeyed political instructions not to apprehend him. Schubert names the names close to Merkel who will have issued those orders.

There is a long history, see alleged 9/11 “turf wars between CIA and FBI and NSA” etc. of incidents not being foreseen by security forces “because of incompetence or other error”.

(Irony: on): such errors are almost as frequent as the number of videocameras that malfunction (sic) exactly at the time when they should be filming perps (7/11 tube bombing in London; Lady Di’s last ride to and in the Paris tunnel in 1997) (irony:off)

On 9/11, the FBI removed all footage near the Pentagon and has not released it since.

    • According to this article:

“More than half of suspects were released without charge, a third were prosecuted, 5 per cent were released on bail pending further investigation and 6 per cent faced “alternative action”.

Interesting that they do not break these particular numbers down accoring to skin colour. I bet most of the so called ‘white terrorists’ were largely part of the half who were released without charge.
