Stocks Headed Towards Single Worst Month Since 2008

NEW YORK — After almost 10 years, Wall Street’s rally looks like it’s ending.

Barring huge gains during the upcoming holiday period, this will be the worst December for stocks since 1931.

What the Russian Trolls Were Really Doing in 2016

What if everything you knew about Russian election trolling was a lie?

That’s the problem faced by two Senate Intelligence Commission reports commissioned from two outside organizations which struggle with the problem of reconciling the facts about Russian election trolling with upholding the Clinton campaign’s conspiracy theory about Trump and the Russians.

The two reports, from New Knowledge and Oxford University’s Computational Propaganda Project, about Russian disinformation serve as their own disinformation campaign, pushing the same false claims that the Russians had sought to help Trump win, even when they were working against him.

New Knowledge is a purely partisan source and its involvement in a false flag operation to fake Russian support for Roy Moore’s Senate campaign should disqualify it from ever being taken seriously. Its report amplifies echo chamber conspiracies about Trump, while Oxford University’s Computational Propaganda Project report is the adult in the room, occasionally conceding the more nuanced reality of the Russian campaign by noting that peak Russian propaganda volume actually occurred long after the election during the Syria missile strike: a key national interest area for Russia. It also confirms what Facebook has already told us, that Russian activity actually increased after the election.

That suggests an influence operation rather than election interference.

It also reveals that the Russians bought over 1,000 ads targeting African-Americans and less than 300 targeting conservatives. There were 81 social justice ads and only 24 patriotism ads, 66 pro-gun ads and 70 LGBT ads, 43 veteran ads and 57 Muslim ads, not to mention 143 Latin American culture ads.[…]

Judge Decides Against Mandatory Minimum for Human Trafficking Sentence

Two Kitchener men who pleaded guilty in connection with a human trafficking ring in Windsor and London were not given the mandatory minimum sentence after appealing to the court that it would be ‘cruel and unusual’ punishment.

Minas Abara and Nicholas Kulafofski, both 20 years old, will be going to prison.

Abara will be behind bars for three years while Kulafofski will serve less than 30 months.

The Crown had been seeking eight years with the mandatory minimum set at four years.

But the lawyers for both men argued that under the Charter of Rights, it would be deemed ‘cruel and unusual punishment.’

Justice Kevin McHugh said even though, “The right-thinking Canadian would not be outraged by the sentence,” of four years, he agreed it was excessive.

Another man who was more involved in the human trafficking incident previously received the mandatory minimum.

Chris Uwagboe, the lawyer for Abara, says “It is a serious charge but our position in this is given these facts in this case the mandatory minimum is just far too much custody, and the court supported that finding.”…

Der Spiegel Admits Top Reporter Faked Stories for Years

German magazine Der Spiegel apologised to readers on Wednesday for publishing “invented stories” and content with “distorted facts,” identifying Claas Relotius, one of its reporters and editors, as confessing to the production of fake news.

Der Spiegel’s management wrote:

In recent years, DER SPIEGEL published just under 60 articles by reporter and editor Claas Relotius. He has now admitted that, in several instances, he either invented stories or distorted facts.

Claas Relotius, a reporter and editor, falsified his articles on a grand scale and even invented characters, deceiving both readers and his colleagues. This has been uncovered as a result of tips, internal research and, ultimately, a comprehensive confession by the editor himself.

Relotius’s deception was discovered after Juana Moreno, who worked with Relotius on a fabricated story of an American vigilante group paroling the U.S.-Mexico border entitled, “Hunter’s Border,” shared his suspicions of his colleague’s mendacity with Der Spiegel.

Syria: Trump Must Not Blink

by Srdja Trifkovic

Over the next few weeks President Donald Trump will have to wage the toughest battle of his political career so far. He will be under intense political and bureaucratic pressure to change his mind on the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Syria. Trump needs to resist that pressure both because the decision to withdraw is justified and because any retreat would fatally compromise his credibility as he approaches his third year in office.

Within his team Trump will neet to overcome resistance primarily from John Bolton and Mike Pompeo. “We’re not going to leave [Syria] as long as Iranian troops are outside Iranian borders and that includes Iranian proxies and militias,” Bolton declared on September 24. Two weeks later Pompeo referred to Kurdish YPG fighters as “great partners,” and reiterated that the Administration remains committed to “the removal of all Iranian and Iranian-backed forces” from Syria. Neither of them is likely to have undergone a massive change of heart in recent weeks, but they are likely to mask their opposition in the guise of temporary postponement and not sticking to “rigid timetables.” They will be supported by Congressional hawks (Graham, Corker, Inhofe, Rubio et al), but Trump needs to stick to his guns. When considering the successor to Jim Mattis he needs to look for a person “whose views are better aligned” with his own—which should exclude alleged current front-runners, General Jack Keane and Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark.

There is nothing to be gained from perpetuating the current, often dysfunctional process of formulating foreign policy choices, reaching decisions and implementing them. “Do we want to be there forever?” is a reasonable question, and every prospective Cabinet member should be asked. Continued presence of U.S. troops in Syria does not make strategic sense. An important yet neglected consideration is that delaying withdrawal would greatly complicate relations with Turkey, which have been improving lately: on December 18 the Administration announced a $3.5 billion arms sale to Turkey, including 80 Patriot missiles…

Death by Sanctuary State

Earlier this week, Gustavo Garcia, an illegal immigrant with a criminal record, celebrated his release from prison by going on a shooting spree. He killed two people and injured six others before dying as the result of crash at the end of a harrowing car chase in a stolen vehicle.

Garcia had been deported twice — first in 2004 and then 2014. Before his second deportation, he had spent 27 months in federal prison for illegally reentering the country. Previously, he had been convicted of armed robbery.

Last week, he was arrested after a caller reported that he was behaving erratically. He tested positive for a controlled substance and spent 10 hours in custody. Then, he was released because the offense only carried a misdemeanor charge.

While Garcia was in jail, ICE officials learned of his arrest and issued an immigration hold. Absent California’s sanctuary state law, federal authorities would have been notified of Garcia’s release and been present to pick up him.

Unfortunately, California is now a sanctuary state. This means that local law enforcement agencies are prohibited from honoring ICE’s detainer requests unless the agency obtains an arrest warrant signed by a federal judge, and, indeed, from communicating with ICE in cases like these. As Mike Boudreaux, the sheriff of Tulare County where Garcia briefly was held, explained:

Before SB 54 [the sanctuary city law], Gustavo Garcia would have been turned over to ICE officials. That’s how we’ve always done it, day in and day out. After SB 54, we no longer have the power to do that.

Thus, Garcia was free to indulge in his murderous rampage. It consisted of:

“The drive-by shooting of a farm worker in an orchard, robbing a gas station where he fired shots at the ceiling, shooting a woman in a parked car near a Motel 6, firing a volley of bullets into another gas station, killing a man standing outside yet another gas station, firing shots while on his ex-girlfriend’s property (with her kids present), shooting at a police patrol car, stealing a vehicle at gunpoint, smashing into several cars while driving at 100 mph to escape the police.

Four people were hospitalized as a result of the car chase. One was injured critically.

Garcia’s murder victims would be alive today if California had not enacted its sanctuary state law…

Germany’s Atheist Refugees: When Not Believing is Life-Threatening

The Supreme Court on Friday upheld a lower court’s ruling that blocked the Trump administration from immediately enforcing new rule changes designed to tighten restrictions on migrants seeking asylum.

The 5-4 decision prevents the administration from implementing a change to asylum rules that would have blocked migrants detained while attempting to the cross the border illegally from seeking asylum. Under the rule change ordered by President Trump on November 9th, only those migrants who present themselves at lawful ports of entry would be entitled to apply for asylum.

Why is Communism Evil?

by Trevor Loudon

[…]

All the above are appalling beyond measure, but they are symptoms—not the cause—of the inherent evil of communism.

The reason that communism is the greatest evil is simple: Communism is the greatest enemy of personal responsibility ever invented.

Communism waters down and diminishes personal accomplishments. Once one sees this clearly, seemingly inexplicable communist-driven policies make sense. Every communist policy—from the minimum wage to single-payer health care to rent control—is designed to minimize and thwart personal responsibility. …

Communism’s stated goal—the “redistribution of wealth”—was simply designed to seduce the weak to sacrifice their freedom for the ultimate benefit of a few.

The actual goal of communism is global domination, which would in turn create the greatest, most comprehensive tyranny of all time. The newest manifestation of communism would not only feature murderous dictators reminiscent of the old Soviet Union, but would now be coupled with highly efficient surveillance technology, making any form of escape impossible.

If this latest iteration of communism succeeds, it will only be because too many individuals were willing to give up their personal responsibility for an illusory sense of security.

  1. “In other news, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg underwent surgery to remove malignant cancerous tissue from her lungs. Justice Ginsburg is 85 years old.”

Hmm…… I may not be a doctor but that sounds awfully not healthy.

I wonder how many gang-rapes her replacement will be accused of participating in?

    Or child murders.

    Etc……..

  2. If anyone doubts that the UK is a totalitarian police state that completely controls the media, you owe it to yourself to read this article, which is probably the longest piece I’ve ever read in the Daily Mail.

In the midst of all the pages and pages of photos and copy, there’s maybe one sentence that says, by the way, we just busted “two middle aged people” for this terrorist act that inconvenienced literally hundreds of thousands of people (mostly Christian/ non-Muslims no doubt).

Not one word to identify who the terrorists are. Not one word as to what they looked like, what nationality, speculation as to why they did the drone strikes. In short, THE POLICE DON’T WANT ANYONE TO KNOW WHO THE CRIMINAL TERRORISTS ARE.

So what does any smart reader of GOV automatically assume? Come on folks, let’s get real. My bet is that at least one of the people they arrested has some connection to the “religion of peace.” Why else would they go to this length not to allow discussion of the suspects?

Most telling of all: NO COMMENTS ALLOWED.

Normally the DM would probably get 2- 3 thousand comments from all over on a cover story like this. But the Police State censors won’t allow any.

Voltaire said, if you want to know who really rules you, find out who you are not allowed to criticize. I think in the UK that’s become pretty obvious.

ONCE THE GREATEST FREEDOM FIGHTERS ON THE PLANET, OUR BRITISH AND UK NEIGHBORS ARE NOW SLAVES TO ISLAM.

      • No, it will still be a totalitarian state. According to Jordan Petersen, it is a police state where stabbings, child-rape, burglaries, and acid attacks are ignored so that the police have the leisure to punish the population for speech and thought crimes.

        • Basically yes, this may well be the case.

The stabbings, child-rape, burglaries and acid attacks may be viewed as forms of unofficial self-policing of a community.

        • What spherical objects! Please supply the link so we can examine what Peterson actually said.

You and Seneca the Elder need to take a trip to N. Korea or Iran or Saudi Arabia to recalibrate your totalitarimeters.

  3. Amen.

“ONCE THE GREATEST FREEDOM FIGHTERS ON THE PLANET”

Yes indeed. Also the greatest Christian missionary nation on earth for its size.
Now reduced to one of the most successful breeding grounds for islam.

Even those of us who are not religiously inclined can agree with the Old Testament when God constantly reminds His people that they willfully forget who they are, where they’ve come from and what He has done for them. And when they forget, they fall into rapid decay both as a nation and as individuals.

The Babylonians and Assyrians are beating down the gates of London.

There is no where left for the “10 Tribes” to flee. They may truly be lost this time.

    • Indeed no free speech, second-class status for non-Muslims. The U.K has capitulated in the most disgraceful way, refusing to give refuge to the Pakistani Christian woman facing death for blasphemy against Islam.

Theresa Appeaser May dare not offend her Muslim masters.

But this was always going to be the end-point of the spineless virtue -signaling P.C culture that washed over Britain like a filthy tide post-1950.

Boudicca (ancient British warrior queen who resisted the Roman occupation) would be ashamed of her descendants if she knew of their dangerous naivety and cringing servile pusillanimity towards Britain’s new invader class.
She could never have believed that the British people would be idiotic enough to: allow Germany to rule them, to kowtow to Brussels, to open the borders to hostile cultures determined to prey upon and subjugate indigenous Britons and refashion British culture in their own culture’s image. If Winston Churchill knew he would weep for the ultimate sacrifice generations of young men made for Britain, a sacrifice now jeered at and sneered at, not honoured as it should be.

There is a corner of a British field now made forever foreign by a new angry entitled mob that despises British culture, despises the Judeo-Christian foundations and despises the indigenous Briton.

      • Excellent. These words need to shouted out from the desolate moors to the fetid dark corners of Soho.

So many angry, capable Brits in need of a few more Tommy Robinsons and Churchills to lead them.

  4. Highly suspicious case of “attempted suicide” by 32 year old Bosnian driving in the bus stop full of people in Germany. 2 interesting articles on the case with some familiar police lingo included. Do not speculate, first he supposedly fell asleep, then story changes into “suicide” which driver miraculously survived, then “history of mental issues”. All bases covered, except no name of course.Drivers name

  5. re: Danish law to enforce hand shake

I hope the Danes are careful to shake only the hand which is not used as toilet paper.

Regardless of which hand is used though I’d use plenty of hand sanitizer.
