A vast majority of chief financial officers in the United States say that the economy will sink into a recession by the end of President Donald Trump’s first term in 2020, and about half say it will happen next year. Many are predicting a recession in 2019 and an all-out market crash in 2020.

Global Economic Woes: Jaguar Land Rover Will ‘Axe Up to 5,000 Jobs’ As Demand Drops

As the demand for diesel cars drops in the United Kindom, and falling sales in China, Jaguar Land Rover will cut up to 5,000 jobs in order to keep the company afloat. The carmaker is also allegedly fearing the Brexit.

As part of a £2.5 billion savings plan, the British carmaker will be cutting 5,000 jobs of the 40,000 they currently employ in the United Kingdom. According to The Guardian, the company has already cut 1,000 temporary contract workers at its plant in Solihull, which builds Range Rovers and the Land Rover Discovery SUV. Jaguar Land Rover has also reduced working hours for some workers, including at its Wolverhampton factory in the run-up to Christmas.

The job cuts come amidst a £90 million loss in the three months leading up to September. The loss was spurred by falling sales in China and Europe.

Sabotage: The Deep State Has Destroyed Trump’s Chances of a Trade Deal With China, And the Stock Market is Tanking as a Result

Somebody out there apparently does not want President Trump to make a trade deal with China. Just after U.S. and Chinese officials agreed to suspend the implementation of new tariffs for 90 days, one of China’s most important tech executives was literally kidnapped as she was changing planes in Canada. Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou was simply on her way to Mexico, but at the urging of U.S. authorities the Canadians grabbed her and are refusing to let her go. Reportedly, the plan is to extradite her to the United States where she will apparently face charges relating to Huawei’s evasion of U.S. sanctions against Iran. When Trump was negotiating face to face with the Chinese, he was not aware that this was taking place. So now all of Trump’s hard work is out the window, and our relations with the Chinese are probably the worst that they have been since the Korean War.

If U.S. authorities wanted to punish Huawei, they should have just slapped a big fine on them and have been done with it.

The Chinese would have been annoyed, but not that much damage would have been done.

But kidnapping a high profile member of Chinese tech loyalty and throwing her in prison is something that the Chinese will not forgive.

The Chinese are a deeply nationalistic people, and the kidnapping of Meng Wanzhou is being treated as a grave national insult in China. If the goal of the Deep State was to really upset the Chinese, they picked a perfect target. The following comes from Robert Wenzel…

Amazon’s Creepy Facial Recog Doorbell, Facebook Open Sources Machine Learning Code and Much More

The American Civil Liberties Union is clashing with Amazon again. And this time it’s over a patent filing that pairs facial recognition technology with a doorbell.

The New York based nonprofit has been investigating Amazon’s Rekognition technology for a while. It called out Jeff Bezos’ biz for working with the police and the Department of Homeland Security, and even proved how inaccurate facial recognition could be.

Now, it’s tutting [PDF] at Amazon’s proposal to put a camera running Rekognition with doorbells. Amazon recently acquired Ring, a startup that specializes in combining the two, for over $1bn early this year.

That’s not all, however, the ACLU claims. The patent also lays out plans to analyse “fingerprints, skin-texture analysis, DNA, palm-vein analysis, hand geometry, iris recognition, odor/scent recognition, and even behavioral characteristics, like typing rhythm, gait, and voice recognition.”

“It’s rare for patent applications to lay out, in such nightmarish detail, the world a company wants to bring about” said Jacob Snow, a Technology & Civil Liberties Attorney for ACLU of Northern California.

Berkeley Scientists Developing Artificial Intelligence Tool to Combat ‘Hate Speech’ On Social Media

Scientists at Berkeley’s D-Lab “are working in cooperation with the [Anti-Defamation League] on a ‘scalable detection’ system—the Online Hate Index (OHI)—to identify hate speech,” the Cal Alumni Association reports.

How the FBI Set Up an American Patriot for the Kill

As set forth in the defense sentencing memorandum, the FBI knew the “exact words” spoken by Flynn to the ambassador. In short, Comey and McCabe had no real investigative purpose in having Flynn questioned about his entirely legal, legitimate, and proper conversations with the ambassador. But law enforcement and national security formed no part of their agenda. They were on a mission to undermine Trump’s new administration by any means necessary, and the intercepts gave them a way to set a trap for the president’s National Security Adviser.

The following is taken verbatim from the defense sentencing memorandum which quotes from documents produced by the special counsel’s office pursuant to court order:…

Got that? Flynn was “relaxed and jocular” and the FBI wanted to keep him that way. McCabe sent Strzok to set a trap which, once sprung, would destroy Flynn’s life. But they didn’t want to warn Flynn that he was facing danger, that he had better choose his words carefully and think long and hard before he answered their questions. It was contrived to be just a friendly, low-key, unguarded, and relaxed chat among “allies.”

Uncle Al and La Cosa Nostra couldn’t have set it up better. This was right out of their playbook. The FBI went to Flynn as friends and then — BAM! — they figuratively blew his brains out.

Now it’s one thing for mob hitmen to use this kind of soulless, underhanded treachery, but is it too much to ask that our FBI adhere to a slightly higher standard of conduct? You know, something ethical and old-fashioned like letting Flynn know that his life and liberty were on the line if he happened not to answer Strzok’s questions to McCabe or Comey’s satisfaction? Maybe even letting him know that they already knew the exact contents of the conversation about which he was being questioned?

But none of that happened. Instead, concealing the real reason for the interview and posing as colleagues and allies, the McCabe and Strzok lulled Flynn into a false sense of security and led him down the primrose path to his destruction.

New Horned Dinosaur Species Discovered in Arizona Wows Paleontologists

A team of paleontologists recently announced the discovery of a new horned dinosaur — a “cousin” of the Triceratops — in southern Arizona.

The new species, Crittendenceratops krzyzanowskii, was named after the rock formation the fossils were buried under (Fort Crittenden Formation) as well as the late amateur scientist Stan Krzyzanowski, who first found the fossils.

The bones of the dinosaur were uncovered underneath 73-million-year-old rocks about 20 years ago southeast of Tucson, but a team from the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science (NMMNH) recently studied the specimen and determined it was a new species. Their findings were published in NMMNH’s bulletin.

Top Republican Predicts Flynn Guilty Plea Will be Thrown Out, Citing FBI ‘Misconduct’

A day before fired FBI Director James Comey is set to again testify behind closed doors with House Republicans, a party leader is predicting that Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s case against ex-National Security Adviser Michael Flynn will soon be thrown out of court.

California Republican Rep. Darrell Issa told Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” that the FBI had “tricked” Flynn into not having a lawyer and had improperly “post-dated” documents to “morph” them into critical evidence against him. He promised Comey would face tough questioning about the episode.

“Tomorrow is going to be a very different day for Comey, particularly in light of what we’ve learned — the misconduct during the Flynn investigation was all about, thanks to a judge that demanded to understand what had happened,” Issa told host Maria Bartiromo, referring to U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan’s order last week that led Mueller to turn over key documents in the case.

He continued: “I would not be surprised a bit if the conviction of Flynn is overturned, because of the Justice Department and FBI’s misconduct — and that in fact, we go potentially all the way to the Supreme Court, with new protections — when the FBI and the Department of Justice lies to someone and tricks them into making statements, and then charges them with a lie they entrapped them in. … This kind of conduct we haven’t seen in a long time.”

A Report From Hell: Seine Saint-Denis (Part Five)

[…]

In this now-deleted Report From Hell, realism briefly broke through, and left Andrew Malone, a veteran journalist, thoroughly alarmed about what he experienced in Saint-Denis and what he fears is still to come. What’s to come is even more, and even bigger, Muslim ghettos in France, though these “ghettos” are not forced on Muslims, but rather created by them, as their violent behavior drives out Christians and Jews from whatever area Muslims settle in, in numbers sufficient to make that area their own. It is in those areas that they create an economy based on government benefits and crime, including the drug trade, and — carried out in “French” areas of Paris — street robberies and house burglaries. And it is in Seine-Saint-Denis that jihadis have planned attacks, and after carrying them out, hidden from the police, as did those who were responsible for the mass murders at the Bataclan nightclub.

This report from Saint-Denis is a cautionary tale. The French need to make up for their own earlier optimistic misunderstandings of Islam, that some still cling to, with their dreams of “national reconciliation,” and to understand that a silent invasion has taken place in their country, as in much of the rest of Europe. There is still time, using laws now on the books and laws not yet on the books, to reduce the threat in France to manageable proportions. But first you have to recognize, rather than deny, that threat.

Andrew Malone’s forthright observations on the Muslim “ghetto” of Seine Saint-Denis are a good place to start. But it is not at all a good sign that the Daily Mail deleted his report under pressure, with promises to restore it that never came to fruition. That incident in itself is an indication that the crisis in France, as well as in Britain and Europe as a whole, may be too far advanced now to address adequately.

French Generals Accuse Macron of ‘Treason’

Say U.N. Migration Pact gives French citizens have another reason to ‘revolt’

(Infowars) A group of French military generals have written an open letter to Emmanuel Macron accusing the French President of committing “treason” by signing the UN migration pact.

The pact, which was signed by 164 nations on Monday, including France, is not legally binding but greases the skids for unlimited migration to be treated as a human right and criticism of mass migration to be treated as hate speech.

A letter written by General Antoine Martinez and signed by ten other generals, an admiral and a colonel, as well as former French Minister of Defense Charles Millon, warns Macron that the move strips France of more sovereignty and provides an additional reason for “an already battered people” to “revolt”.

The letter accuses Macron of being “guilty of a denial of democracy or treason against the nation” for signing the pact without putting it to the people.

“The French state is late in coming to realize the impossibility of integrating too many people, in addition to totally different cultures, who have regrouped in the last forty years in areas that no longer submit to the laws of the Republic,” states the letter, adding that mass immigration is erasing France’s “civilizational landmarks”.

According to British MEP Janice Atkinson, the UN pact would lead to Europe being flooded with 59 million new migrants within the next 6 years.

‘People Have Lost Their Trust in the Political Class and the Media’ — Philosopher

Philosopher: Yellow Vest Movement is “Historic, “ Unlike Any Other Protest

People from both left and right have lost faith in the political elite and the media

French philosopher Alain de Benoist says that the yellow vest movement that started in France and is now spreading to other European countries is “historic” and unlike any other protest.

Speaking to Hungarian daily Magyar Hirlap, Benoist noted how protesters are driven by two factors — cultural insecurity which is driven by mass migration and social insecurity which is driven by the soaring cost of living. He notes that when these two factors blend, a “rebellion” is inevitable.

“Immigration has become an increasingly unbearable problem in recent years and people know that more people are coming. In addition, social tension is growing as rich people are richer and the poor are poorer,” said Benoist.

The philosopher notes that the movement is unlike any other because it unites people with shared grievances from both sides of the political spectrum.

“This is a historic event because it is different from any other protest we have seen in recent years. It was launched from the bottom, completely independent of the parties and trade unions, and it can not be categorized either clearly right or left,” said Benoist.

He added that the huge support from the French population, 70 per cent in some polls, is a telling factor and a sign that people have completely lost faith in the political elite and the media.

Normally, this time of the year, the Champs-Élysées avenue in Paris has a festive air with Christmas decorations and happy shoppers looking for last minute presents. This season, however, what the French like to boast about as “the most beautiful avenue in the world” looks more like a war zone. UK Lawmakers Urge ‘Extreme Caution’ As Huawei Invests in Top British Universities

[…]

Annual trips to China in association with the British Council are funded by Huawei, as well as research projects into the latest cell phone and audio technology.

Examples include a 5G Innovation Center at the University of Surrey, to which Huawei has promised $6.3 million, as well as 4G research at the University of York, and a computer lab at Cambridge University, which has so far cost more than $1 million.

But following the detention in Canada of the company’s chief financial officer, Meng Wanzhou, British lawmakers have been speaking out about their concerns on the company’s level of investment in British academia. …

In addition to its funding at British universities, Huawei is a major supplier of broadband gear and mobile networks in the country, meaning its products are used in critical national infrastructure. The company has supplied broadband equipment to BT, the UK’s largest telecom provider, and mobile networks for Vodafone.

Huawei is so embedded in British communications that a special monitoring board was set up to scrutinize whether the company posed a threat.

Yair’s post, which was in response to the death of the two IDF soldiers killed by Palestinian terrorists in Givat Assaf, was removed by Facebook, and he was issued a 24 hour ban on his account.

Facebook deleted Yair’s post in which he said he’d “prefer” if “All the Muslims leave the land of Israel.”

Because Facebook has apparently decided alongside Twitter and Google to be Sharia compliant, Yair was punished for a post that adequately expresses the sentiments shared by the many people who live in Israel and are subject.

Yair has been the focus of many Left wing media attacks as a result of his frequent social media posts that have been critical of Islam, HAMAS, and globalist onetime Nazi collaborator George Soros.

Palestinians: Shooting a Pregnant Woman and Lying

[…]

Abbas is obviously afraid of condemning his rivals in Hamas for waging the latest wave of terrorist attacks in the West Bank. He knows that the day he condemns the shooting of a pregnant Israeli woman, his people will rise up against him and charge him with collaborating with Israel. But Abbas has only himself to blame: his ongoing incitement and lies against Israel have made it too dangerous for him to utter a word against Palestinian terrorists.

Finally, we might mention an important detail about which Abbas and his representatives are keeping their mouths shut tight: the Israeli crackdown on Hamas in the West Bank actually serves the interests of the Palestinian Authority. Without this ongoing crackdown, Hamas would have long ago overthrown Abbas’s regime and seized control of the West Bank. It is the Israeli soldiers stationed some hundreds of meters from Abbas’s office and residence that is keeping him safe and sound. As inconvenient a truth as this is for Abbas and his spin doctors in Ramallah, it is the truth, nonetheless.

“United Nations, Your Silence is Getting Worse”: Extremist Persecution of Christians, September 2018

Central African Republic: As many as 42 people — mostly Christian women — “were hacked to death … after suspected Islamist rebels attacked a group of civilians in the central town of Bria” between September 4-5. Some died by machete, others by gunshot. At least one of the butchered women was pregnant. “They [Seleka militants] don’t want to see any Christians here,” one church leader said. “Christians never go to town… They have barricaded all roads, and if you venture out, you are at your own peril. We Christians have nothing else to do, no food to eat, no place to go. We rely only on prayers. Please pray for us!” …

Philippines: On September 2, Muslim militants bombed a café in the town of Insulan. Jun Mark Luda, an 18-year-old catechist who taught Christian principles in public schools during his free time, and his 15-year-old cousin, Marialyn Luda were killed in the blast; 14 others were injured. Jun Mark Luda “was smart and talented. His jolliness was contagious. We are saddened by his death,” said a church acquaintance before adding that such ongoing attacks “destroy the harmony between Muslims and Christians.” Army commander Maj. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana “blamed the attack on the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), which has pledged allegiance to Islamic State.” The same group was accused of bombing St Anthony’s Catholic Cathedral on April 29, 2018. …

Egypt: Because they “objected to the presence of a church in the area,” hundreds of Muslims rioted and attacked Christian homes and knifed two Christians, one in the head the other in the face. According to one report:

“Four [Christian] homes were ransacked, looted and partially set on fire by a Muslim mob during the three-hour-long attack, which was reportedly in protest of one of the properties being used as a home church. A local source … said the small Coptic community had been warned about the attack on August 31 a few days before it took place. Despite reporting the threat to police, officers did not respond until the attack had nearly finished…”

Bolton: China and Russia ‘Interfere With U.S. Military’ In Africa

[…]

Beijing’s “predatory actions are sub-components of broader Chinese strategic initiatives, including ‘One Belt, One Road’—a plan to develop a series of trade routes leading to and from China with the ultimate goal of advancing China’s global dominance,” Bolton explained, stressing that China is actively seeking to “obtain more political, economic, and military power.”

Djibouti, which is located in the Horn of Africa, houses China’s first overseas military base, which experts like Judd Devermont from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) believe may hinder U.S. military access and operations. The base is located a few miles from America’s Camp Lemonnier

“The balance of power in the Horn of Africa, a major artery of maritime trade between Europe, the Middle East, and South Asia,” is at risk of shifting “in favor of China. And, our U.S. military personnel at Camp Lemonnier [Djibouti], could face even further challenges in their efforts to protect the American people,” Bolton said, citing Djibouti’s intent to give a Chinese state-owned company control of a port on the Red Sea.

UK Drops Deportation of Iranian Rapist Who Pretended to be Christian on Twitter

An Iranian illegal alien, who had served a jail term for sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl, claims that he cannot be deported to his native country because he has left Islam to follow Jesus. The judge took his side, saying that even though his conversion to Christianity was fabricated, he would still be targeted after being flown back to Iran.

A UK judge has tossed the deportation case of an Iranian asylum-seeker, who had raped a teenage girl, over concerns that his conversion from Islam to Christianity — which the judge found to be faked — could expose him to danger in the Islamic Republic.

The court looked through his 850 Twitter posts, which quoted verses from the Bible and religious images, as well as retweets that were likely to invoke the wrath of Iranian authorities.

The judge accepted that the Iranian falsely claimed that he had converted to Christianity as a pretext to avoid deportation. However, the judge ruled the man still cannot be deported to Iran because he would be “viewed as someone involved in anti-Islamic conduct”, even if Tehran also accepts that his alleged faith in Christ was a lie.

Pope Francis: The Death Penalty is ‘Inhuman’, ‘Contrary to the Gospel’

Pope Francis has continued his crusade against capital punishment with a strongly worded address Monday, calling it a vestige of an age that ignored “the primacy of mercy over justice” while adding that life imprisonment should also be abolished.

“In past centuries, when measures available to us for the protection of society were lacking and the current level of development of human rights had not yet been achieved, recourse to the death penalty was sometimes presented as a logical and just consequence,” the pope told a delegation from the International Commission against the Death Penalty. “Even in the Papal States, this inhuman form of punishment has been resorted to, ignoring the primacy of mercy over justice.”

The Infiltration of Marxism Into Higher Education (Part 1 of 2)

Langbert found that political registration by doctorate-holding professors in top-tier liberal arts colleges is overwhelmingly Democratic, with 39 percent of the colleges in his study being Republican-free.

Aside from actual political party registration, the study found that political affiliation skewed heavily Democratic, with more than 78 percent of academic departments having no politically conservative representation. While exceptions do exist, among liberal arts institutions they are few.

The skewed figures are “most notable in the humanities and social science fields, where the battle of ideas is most important,” Carson Holloway, an associate professor of political science at the University of Nebraska—Omaha, told The Daily Signal. …

Bernard Shaw, the undisputed leader of the Fabians, showered praise on Benito Mussolini (“the right kind of tyrant”), Josef Stalin (“a Georgian gentleman” with “no malice in him”), and even Adolf Hitler (“a very remarkable man”). His vision was for a worldwide socialist government headed by a Fabian dictator.

Further penetrating into the educational structure of Britain, the Fabians founded the London School of Economics to promote their socialist economic principles. As an educational institution, it became the foundation of the British Labour Party. Against the backdrop of the Great Depression of the 1930s, they also found sympathetic interest from their socialist counterparts in the United States.

The Infiltration of Marxism Into Higher Education (Part 2 of 2)

[…]

Horkheimer developed a study curriculum labeled “critical theory,” a rambling, philosophical ideology in direct opposition to the tenets of Western civilization, which became the Frankfurt School’s raison d’étre.

Critical theory postulated that anyone living under a capitalist society was, unbeknownst to them, enslaved, oppressed, and vulnerable to fascism. Any topic, therefore, that attacked capitalist institutions, was legitimate fodder for critical study and repudiation. It was only natural that U.S. educational institutions would eventually be in their crosshairs. …

The results that are finally being revealed represent a litany of assaults on not only traditional Western values, but attacks on fundamental free speech. Political correctness has become such a commonly used term that it is easy to overlook its fundamental purpose—namely, the stifling of free speech and opposing viewpoints, amounting to tyranny and suppression on campuses and in the public square.

The continual revolution called for by Marx is alive and thriving in the form of constant agitation and division sown by the left, from the springboard of academia. Marx and Lukacs would be gratified at the carnage they have spawned.

The Pagan Revival: A Return to Pre-Christian Thought in the West?

Often in contemporary culture, the question of whether we are living in a post-religious society is raised. Similar questions along these lines ask whether traditional religious ideas that once manifested in Christianity, Judaism, and other world religions are being replaced by a gradual shift toward secularism (as influenced by technology, education, and other factors).

Others have argued that it isn’t secularism, per se, that we’re moving toward as a society. John Stonestreet, host of the evangelical radio program The Point recently suggested that what he perceives as being a sort of “occult” revival might be underway, due in part to the sheer availability of different spiritual belief systems which are essentially made accessible to us buffet-style:

Greenland Crater Renewed the Debate Over an Ancient Climate Mystery

For three years, a team of scientists kept a big secret: They had discovered a giant crater-shaped depression buried beneath about a kilometer of ice in northwestern Greenland. In November, the researchers revealed their find to the world.

They hadn’t set out to find a crater. But in 2015, glaciologists studying ice-penetrating radar images of Greenland’s ice sheet, part of an annual survey by NASA’s Operation IceBridge mission, noticed an oddly rounded shape right at the northern edge of Hiawatha Glacier. If the 31-kilometer-wide depression is confirmed to be the remnant of a meteorite impact — and the team has produced a wealth of evidence suggesting that it is (SN: 12/8/18, p. 6) — the discovery is exciting in and of itself. It’s rare to find a new crater, let alone one on land that has retained its perfect bowl shape.
