Gates of Vienna News Feed 12/15/2018

A petition calling for a “No-Deal” Brexit is the most popular petition on the UK government’s website, and may now have over 100,000 signatures. However, the British government appears to have rejected it.

In other news, it has recently emerged that of the sixteen lawyers on Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s staff, not one is a Republican.

“Adulting” Classes Teach Millennials Basic Skills Like Sewing, Cooking and Changing a Tire

Millennials who feel they lack some basic life skills can now take “adulting” classes, which are expanding across the country. The classes teach life skills like cooking, budgeting and time management, CBS New York reports, and young adults are signing up for lessons in person and online.

Rachel Flehinger co-founded the aptly named Adulting School in Portland, Maine. This month, she is launching online classes geared toward millennials who want to learn how to sew on a button, understand modern art or even deal with love.

The course curriculum on love will include “how to have a relationship, how to talk to someone, conflict resolution — how not to fight,” Flehinger said. It will even offer guidance on how to tell someone you love them.

Anti-Trump Dossier Author Was Hired to Help Hillary Challenge 2016 Election Results

By Rowan Scarborough

British ex-spy Christopher Steele, who wrote the Democrat-financed anti-Trump dossier, said in a court case that he was hired by a Democratic law firm in preparation for Hillary Clinton challenging the results of the 2016 presidential election.

He said the law firm Perkins Coie wanted to be in a position to contest the results based on evidence he unearthed on the Trump campaign conspiring with Moscow on election interference.

His scenario is contained in a sealed Aug. 2 declaration in a defamation law suit brought by three Russian bankers in London. The trio’s American attorneys filed his answers Tuesday in a libel lawsuit in Washington against the investigative firm Fusion GPS, which handled the former British intelligence officer.

In an answer to interrogatories, Mr. Steele wrote: “Fusion’s immediate client was law firm Perkins Coie. It engaged Fusion to obtain information necessary for Perkins Coie LLP to provide legal advice on the potential impact of Russian involvement on the legal validity of the outcome of the 2016 US Presidential election.

“Based on that advice, parties such as the Democratic National Committee and HFACC Inc. (also known as ‘Hillary for America’) could consider steps they would be legally entitled to take to challenge the validity of the outcome of that election.”

The Democrats never filed a challenge, but Mr. Steele’s answer suggested that was one option inside the Clinton camp, which funded Mr. Steele’s research along with the Democratic National Committee.

The U.S. intelligence community concluded that Moscow interfered in the election by hacking Democratic Party computers and stealing emails that it released via WikiLeaks.

No Trump associate has been charged with collusion.

In a previous court filing in a second case in April-May 2017, Mr. Steele said his job was to find links between Trump associates and Moscow.

Hired by Fusion in June 2016, he wrote a 17-memo dossier alleging a “extensive conspiracy” between the two, which two years later hasn’t been proven publicly by special counsel Robert Mueller or Congress.

In his most recent London court filing, Mr. Steele is defending against a libel lawsuit by citing a discredited story about a computer server, Trump Tower and a Russian bank.

[…]

A Trump Organization official told The Washington Times last year that some of the spam went to Alfa Bank employees who perhaps stayed in Trump hotels. That’s how Alfa turned up in some emails.

The New York Times investigated and said the FBI basically came to the same conclusion.

Mr. Steele didn’t mention the server theory in the dossier itself.

Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn R. Simpson did try to sell the idea to the Justice Department, despite The New York Times’ finding. He met with then-Associate Deputy Attorney General Bruce Ohr.

Trying to prompt an investigation, Mr. Simpson told him the Times story was wrong and the server was used for direct communication, according to Mr. Ohr’s notes turned over to Congress.

In his court filing, Mr. Steele sought to show cronyism between Trump and the bank by noting that Alfa hired then-private attorney Brian Benczkowski to investigate the server allegation.

Mr. Benczkowski is now assistant attorney general in charge of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, having won Senate confirmation in a near-party line vote.

Fusion GPS, in defending against the Russians’ libel lawsuit, depicts the three men as corrupt Putin cronies.

Mr. Steele faces a second defamation suit in London […]

[Hope he has lots of QC-type lawyers. Hope he’s cured of Hillary entanglements.]

CA Supreme Court Chief Justice Leaves GOP Over Kavanaugh

California Supreme Court Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye explained during an interview on CNN Friday night that she has decided to leave the Republican Party — she cited the Brett Kavanaugh debacle prior to his confirmation as the reason for her decision.

President Donald Trump nominated Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court in July to fill the seat vacated by retired Justice Anthony Kennedy. Months later, three allegations of sexual misconduct were levied against Kavanaugh.

The first allegation, which was from Christine Blasey Ford, led to a hearing where both Ford and Kavanaugh testified under oath in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee.[…]

“…Of course, Justice Kavanaugh is qualified and the president has the prerogative to name to the Supreme Court, but it was the hearing itself and how it was handled and the tone and the polarization and the conduct and the procedure that greatly disturbed me, and that’s really what led me to make the decision to go online and to finally change my party.”[…]

[NOTE:So the Judiciary Committee’s Democrat members’ ugly tricks don’t count? The whole darn country is divided, Judge and you just added to that polarization.]

Federal Judge in Texas Strikes Down Affordable Care Act

A federal judge in Texas struck down the Affordable Care Act on Friday night, ruling that former President Barack Obama’s signature domestic legislation has fallen down like a losing game of “Jenga.”

But the White House said that with the ruling expected to be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, the law will remain in place for now.

U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor in Fort Worth sided with the argument put forward by a coalition of Republican-leaning states, led by Texas, that Obamacare could no longer stand now that there’s no penalty for Americans who don’t buy insurance.

The U.S. Supreme Court had upheld the law in 2012, by classifying the legislation as a tax. But since Congress removed the individual mandate in 2017, O’Connor ruled, there’s no way the ACA can be allowed to stand.

“The Individual Mandate can no longer be fairly read as an exercise of Congress’s Tax Power and is still impermissible under the Interstate Commerce Clause — meaning the Individual Mandate is unconstitutional,” O’Connor wrote. “The Individual Mandate is essential to and inseverable from the remainder of the ACA.”

Without the system being upheld by a wide pool of mandated participants, the ACA cannot stand, O’Connor ruled.[…]

[Nobody will be sad to see it go. The costs of insurance for many people are beyond their reach]

But fortunately for us, Islam hasn’t been able to make every Muslim its slave, just as Nazism wasn’t able to turn every German into a Nazi. So there is Islam and there are Muslims. Muslims who take Islam seriously are at war with us and Muslims who don’t aren’t. But that doesn’t mean we should consider lax Muslims allies against Jihad

Not a Single Lawyer Known to Work for Mueller is a Republican

None of the 16 lawyers known to work for special counsel Robert Mueller are registered Republicans

None of the 16 publicly-confirmed lawyers on special counsel Robert Mueller’s team are registered Republicans, The Daily Caller News Foundation has found.

Voter registration records indicate that 13 of the attorneys are Democrats and three have no party affiliation. This is the first time the political affiliation of all 16 lawyers has been reported.

One of the lawyers, Zainab Ahmad, appears to have registered as a Republican at the age of 18, but has since changed her registration status to unaffiliated.

There is a 17th lawyer on the Russia probe, but this person’s identity and political affiliation remain unknown.

The special counsel’s office has previously disclosed that nine of the 16 lawyers have made a total of $62,000 in donations to Democrats, with one of those nine lawyers having also donated $2,750 to Republican candidates.

However, that analysis only looked at donations found in Federal Elections Commission records. TheDCNF has uncovered two additional Democratic donors by searching for all donations — regardless of party — recorded in campaign finance databases at the state level.

Adam Jed, an appellate lawyer for the Justice Department, made two donations in 2017 — $1,000 to a Democratic candidate for Wisconsin attorney general and $100 to a Democratic candidate for Baltimore state’s attorney. Another DOJ lawyer, Aaron Zelinsky, donated $100 in 2014 to the Branford Democratic Town Committee in Connecticut and $100 to a Democratic state lawmaker in 2016.

That makes 11 lawyers on the Mueller team who have donated to Democratic campaigns.

Mueller, a registered Republican, is not included in these figures, but the former FBI director has donated to Republicans both statewide and nationally.

As his team has grown, details about the lawyers hired by Mueller have fueled accusations of political bias on the probe investigating whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia to influence the 2016 presidential election.

Andrew Weissmann, an early member of the probe, attended former Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s election-night party in New York City. In January, he sent an email to then-acting Attorney General Sally Yates, praising her for refusing to enforce President Donald Trump’s travel ban.

Texas Federal Judge Rules Affordable Health Care Act Unconstitutional

WASHINGTON — A conservative federal judge in Texas on Friday ruled the Affordable Care Act “invalid” on the eve of the sign-up deadline for next year. But with appeals certain, even the Trump White House said the law will remain in place for now.

In a 55-page opinion, U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor ruled that last year’s tax cut bill knocked the constitutional foundation from under “Obamacare” by eliminating a penalty for not having coverage. The rest of the law cannot be separated from that provision and is therefore invalid, he wrote.

If Brexit is Abandoned, Will it Ever be Worth Voting Again?

by Douglas Murray

[…]in the last two and a half years it has become clear that though there is not ‘the establishment’ in Britain, there clearly is ‘an establishment’. And while it is not able to control absolutely everything, it can do very basic things like make certain people’s lives very difficult if they have been on the wrong side of a democratic vote. And it can, if not thwart, then at least tie-up all efforts at fulfilling the wishes of the people. From the moment that the British people voted ‘leave’, any and all ‘establishments’ in this country might have pulled together for the national interest. Instead many chose to wage war on the decision of the people, in the hope of reversing that decision, or to conceal the fact that what the people asked for was not going to happen.

The second reason why this fills me with regret is that when I speak with friends across the continent (even those who are ardent opponents of Brexit) they occasionally express a degree of admiration at the fact that the British government has appeared to be at least trying to fulfil the will of the people. Earlier plebiscites in Ireland, France and The Netherlands, after all, were ignored by those countries’ establishments. The people were told to vote again until they got the ‘right’ answer (as we too may yet be asked to do). In such countries there was never any intention of doing what the public wanted. And so the fact that the British government seemed to be trying — loathe though some of them may have been — to do what the public had asked elicited a batsqueak of admiration from some friends on the continent, in a way that permitted an uncommon squeak of pride in return.

But that brings me to the real reason why I say all this. I am not the world’s most ardent Brexiteer. I voted to leave because I could see what the EU now wanted to become, and whether or not that direction was right for the rest of the continent it was not right for the UK. We were always going to be an awkward and aggravating presence holding back this project. We were going to have to divorce at some point. […]

Russia Shock Discovery: New Species of Dinosaur Revealed After Bones Found on Cliff

RUSSIA has discovered a brand new species of dinosaur that walked the earth up to 200million years ago and weighed 17 tonnes.

The giant fossil has been called Volgatitan, with scientists confirming it belonged to the herbivore family and had a long neck similar to a brontosaurus, but called sauropods. The beast was identified through seven of its vertebrae, which had been stuck inside a cliff for more than 130million years before erosion washed the bones up on the banks of the Volga river near Ulyanovsk, west Russia, in 1982. When more of the vertebrae fell from the cliff when its limestone broke away it enabled the discovery to be identified as “giant vertebrae of unknown taxonomic affiliation” in 1997. Now 21 years on, the bones were re-examined by experts after being sat in a lab in Russia gathering dust.

Pakistan’s Minorities and Kartarpur Corridor

Recently the Prime Minister has also declared that there is no mention of Jesus in history — a statement which is deeply hurtful for the nation’s Christians as well as being palpably untrue historically speaking, whatever your religious persuasion

I am wondering if Imran Khan, who has doubtless seen the happiness on the faces of Sikhs, could take the time to observe the sadness and fear on the faces of his nation’s Christians. They are never allowed to visit their holy places in Palestine and Israel.

And, tellingly, as Imran continues his expanding his cabinet, this is the first time in the last 50 years that there is no Christian cabinet minister.

The sad reality is that that new Pakistan is proving no different for Pakistan’s beleaguered minorities. Imran Khan who claims to want to make the country into Quaid’s Pakistan, seems far from that man’s vision. Quaid was driven by a desire for fairness. He was keen that Pakistan’s minorities didn’t suffer in the way that Pakistan’s Muslims had. He assured minority leaders the full protection of the state and guaranteed that they would have equal rights under the constitution.

We have failed to protect and safeguard religious minorities’ constitutional and political rights through inserting several articles into the constitution of 1973 like 2A, 41(a) 93(a) etc. to bar them from participating and fulfilling their roles in the government.

Now is the time to accept the truth and change our policies to fit Quaid E Azam’s vision and give minorities the rights they deserve — including safe passage to their own holy sites. Kartarpur Corridor: good news for Sikhs, but no progress for our minority pilgrims.

Students at the Evangelical Christian Wheaton College in Illinois said that a guest lecture from a pro-life speaker made them feel “unsafe” while recounting his life story of being a Black American conceived through rape and put up for adoption at birth.

The Wheaton College College Republicans recently invited pro-life speaker Ryan Bomberger to speak on campus. Bomberger travels to campuses to give a lecture entitled “Black Lives Matter: In and Outside the Womb.” Bomberger was conceived through rape and put up for adoption after birth. “Build wells”. Detained ISIS financiers posing as philanthropists

They have withdrawn bank cards involved in the financing of terrorism. For several years, they have transferred more than 38 million rubles.
Under the guise of raising funds for the construction of wells in Africa, attackers from Chechnya, Dagestan, Ingushetia and the Moscow region sponsored militants from ISIL * and Dzhebhat an-nusra * terrorist organizations. About this reports RIA “News” with reference to a source in law enforcement agencies of Dagestan.

Recall that in two years the criminals managed to translate their accomplices more than 38 million rubles. They have “discovered and withdrawn a significant number of bank cards involved in the financing of terrorism, extremist literature, instructions for purchasing equipment and telephone SIM cards.”

  2. May, Steele, Macron, Hillary, Merkel…all interconnected tyrants fighting the spirit of guy Fawkes and “the people”. We are all yellow vests now.

  3. re: teaching Melinnials basic skills

    Why bother.

Just teach them how to get a good muslim wife and she do all the work including changing the car tire. She could probably be used to renovate the house also.

  4. re: My Name Is Bosch……..Recovered Muslim

    from the article:

“….it’s no accident that those who are most informed about Islam are also most critical of it, while those least informed are least critical. “
