CNN Targets Breitbart as ‘Hate News, ‘ Pushes Advertiser Boycott

CNN has set their sights on Breitbart after successfully getting Infowars banned and deplatformed from nearly all social media last month.

CNN host John Avlon Sunday on “Reliable Sources” suggested Breitbart was “hate news” and conducted a glowing interview with Sleeping Giants founder Matt Rivitz who has allegedly managed to get 4,000 advertisers to pull their ads from Breitbart’s website.

We Have Left Facebook

We announced this past April that we would abandon Facebook for comments and adopt Disqus in its stead as soon as practicable. Yesterday evening it became practicable. We have accordingly made the switch from Facebook to Disqus. Thanks to Power Line publisher Joe Malchow for his work to make it happen.

We noted that comments previously posted via Facebook would be lost. It was an unavoidable cost of making a transition that we thought desired and desirable. Thanks to readers for your patience and understanding. We regret whatever inconvenience or disappointment you may have suffered in the interim or in the transition.

As I have mentioned a time or two before, we seek to maintain a tone appropriate to civil discourse on this site. We will continue to enforce standards of civil discourse, however erratic their enforcement may be. Please note:

Posting comments on Power Line is a privilege, not a right. I review comments for abuse, vulgarity and offensiveness. Inserting asterisks or dashes to mask vulgarity doesn’t cut it.

Disagreement with us is welcome. Abuse is not. Commenters who disparage us in personal terms will be banned.

Anonymous and pseudonymous comments are discouraged.

To maintain propriety we will withhold or delete comments and ban commenters without notice or explanation.

Offensiveness beyond any of these categories is also grounds for banning. We exercise the prerogative of banning for offensiveness that is strictly in the eye of the beholder (me) without notice or explanation.

Wire Fraud Scheme Tricks Homebuyers Out of Hundreds of Thousands

Reportedly no way to recover enormous loss

It’s a nightmare scenario for any homebuyer: the day before closing, a scammer manages to trick you into wiring your down payment to an offshore account. You lose your hard-earned money and you lose the house, and there’s no way you can get either one back.

That’s how some criminals have adapted the common “business email compromise” scam — so-named because it used to almost exclusively target businesses — to focus on individuals, especially people who are involved in a pending real estate transaction.

CNBC spoke with two victims of this type of crime who wished to remain anonymous. They were devastated to lose six-figure sums, their dream homes and in one case, the bulk of the individual’s life savings.

Britain’s Burka Blues: “I’d Like to Thank Boris Johnson”

On August 5, Britain’s former Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson, published an article in The Daily Telegraph. Entitled “Denmark has got it wrong. Yes, the burka is oppressive and ridiculous — but that’s still no reason to ban it”, the article created a furore both within and outside his own Tory party, and for more than one reason.

Johnson is currently the strongest candidate to replace Theresa May as Prime Minister, given her increasing weakness as a leader, largely due to the problems surrounding Brexit and her inability to create a suitable deal for it. This is relevant to the furore. Johnson is an ambitious politician who is given to making controversial comments.

Far-Right Poised for Big Wins in Sweden Election

The far-right Sweden Democrats (SD) are heading to make the most gains and come in a close second, followed by the conservative Moderates

The anti-immigration far-right is expected to soar in Sweden’s September 9 general election, capitalising on voter discontent as Swedes punish traditional parties over immigration, integration and health care.

Prime Minister Stefan Lofven’s Social Democrats, who have dominated Swedish politics since the 1930s, will remain the biggest party in the country but likely with a record low score, polls suggest.

The far-right Sweden Democrats (SD) are heading to make the most gains and come in a close second, followed by the conservative Moderates.

A Skop institute poll published on Sunday, a week before the election, credited the Social Democrats with 23.8 percent of support, compared with 31 percent in the 2014 election; SD with 20 percent, up from 13 percent in 2014; and the Moderates with 17 percent, down from 23 percent.

For Those Concerned About Abuse Scandals, Pope Francis Prescribes Prayer … and Silence

Pope Francis said Monday that the remedy for those clamoring about the church’s abuse scandals and recent cover-up allegations is prayer and more silence.

Francis made the comments during his Monday homily at mass in the Vatican, following not only the fallout over Pennsylvania’s grand jury report on sexual abuse in six dioceses, but also rising furor over Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano’s allegations that Francis and others covered up reports of Cardinal Theodore McCarrick’s alleged sexual abuses. Francis told reporters in August he would “not say a word” about the allegations and seemed to recommend a similar approach of silence for those attending his homily, according to The Associated Press.

Switzerland: Some 250 People Demonstrated to Protest About the Brutal Attack on Five Women in Geneva on August 8.

Six women were the victims of violent crimes committed by men in Geneva and Zurich in August. The crimes have sent shock waves shuddering through social media channels, newspapers and the world of politics — starting in a Geneva nightclub and reaching the seat of government in Bern.

The viral #metoo campaign brought the issue of violence against women to the Swiss public at the end of 2017. Social media has made the Swiss people aware of the problem.

In the early hours of August 8, a group of men attacked a woman at a night spot. Four other women who tried to help the victim were also brutally attacked. All five were taken to hospital, two with serious injuries.

The Geneva public prosecutor has identified the assailants. They come from France, but they are still at large. Eyewitnesses describe them as being of north African origin.

On August 12, as nearly a million people took part in Zurich’s Street Parade, a woman was brutally attacked. Eventually, two men came to her aid, driving the three assailants away. She was taken to hospital with severe head trauma and other injuries. According to the victim, the three attackers are of Tamil origin. Police have not yet caught up with them.

[…]

Migrant issue

The women from the centre-left party leave out the immigrant background of the attackers from their plan. “Stop sugar-coating this: such violence is often committed by men with migrant backgrounds. We also have to protect their women,” responded Sigg Frank, president of the women’s arm of the centre-right Christian Democrats.

Alliance F, an umbrella group for women’s associations in Switzerland, said it is narrow-minded to suggest that migrants are the problem. “The root cause of violence against women is patriarchy and sexism. Both of these are present not only in our own culture, but also in others.”

Natalie Rickli, a parliamentarian for the conservative right Swiss People’s Party, told Blick that there is a need for a broad women’s alliance. “In order to protect the victims and punish the perpetrators, we also need the support of left-wing women in parliament,” she said. “Even Swiss men who beat women should be severely punished.”

Christa Markwalder, a centre-right Radical Party parliamentarian, called for more police officers, saying there is no shortage of laws, but of criminal prosecutions…

The Curious Handshakes of “Pope” Francis

There comes a point when circumstantial evidence has become so overwhelming in terms of quantity and quality that only a fool would deny the reality it points to. Jorge Bergoglio — the apostate Argentinian layman pulling off the “Pope Francis” Show in the Vatican — not only talks like a Mason, acts like a Mason, and teaches the doctrines of Freemasonry, he also shakes hands like one.

The video below gives some pretty clear evidence. Take a look:

But let’s avoid all misunderstanding: We are not saying that Francis is a Freemason simply because of handshakes. Oh no — he is a Freemason (whether an actual member or “only” in adherence to their doctrines) because practically everything he says and does is perfectly in line with Masonry, if not in every detail, certainly in essence. The handshakes are merely the icing on the cake — confirming what anyone with eyes to see can discover is really in plain sight:

Vatican: Declaration on Masonic Associations

It has been asked whether there has been any change in the Church’s decision in regard to Masonic associations since the new Code of Canon Law does not mention them expressly, unlike the previous Code.

This Sacred Congregation is in a position to reply that this circumstance in due to an editorial criterion which was followed also in the case of other associations likewise unmentioned inasmuch as they are contained in wider categories.

Therefore the Church’s negative judgment in regard to Masonic association remains unchanged since their principles have always been considered irreconcilable with the doctrine of the Church and therefore membership in them remains forbidden. The faithful who enrol in Masonic associations are in a state of grave sin and may not receive Holy Communion.

It is not within the competence of local ecclesiastical authorities to give a judgment on the nature of Masonic associations which would imply a derogation from what has been decided above, and this in line with the Declaration of this Sacred Congregation issued on 17 February 1981 (cf. AAS 73 1981 pp. 240-241; English language edition of L’Osservatore Romano, 9 March 1981).

In an audience granted to the undersigned Cardinal Prefect, the Supreme Pontiff John Paul II approved and ordered the publication of this Declaration which had been decided in an ordinary meeting of this Sacred Congregation.

We’ll Keep Promises With Italians — Salvini

PD did what Europe said and Italians aren’t better off

(ANSA) — Rome, September 3 — The government will keep its expensive campaign promises to Italians despite market jitters about Italy breaching EU budget parameters, Interior Minister Matteo Salvini said Monday.

“Market doubts? We’ll be understood by the facts. I’m amazed at the fact that they don’t appreciate the fact that we’re going to keep the promised made in the electoral campaign,” he said.

“In the past the (centre-left Democratic Party) PD did what Europe said and the Italians are not better off and there’s more debt.

I want to make useful spending, I hope it is within the European canons”.

The government’s flagship policies, a basic income, ‘flat’ tax and pension reform, have been costed as totalling some 80-100 billion euros, enough to bust the budget.

Salvini’s Euroskeptic League party has said Italy will break the EU’s key 3% deficit-to-GDP limit in its 2019 budget, but Economy Minister Giovanni Tria, an unelected technocrat, says the budget deficit will stick to 1-2% of GDP.

Why Do the Freemasons Love Pope Francis?

“a Pope according to our wants”

“That which we ought to demand, that which we should seek and expect, as the Jews expected the Messiah, is a Pope according to our wants. Alexander VI, with all his private crimes, would not suit us, for he never erred in religious matters. Clement XIV, on the contrary, would suit us from head to toe.”

(From the Permanent Instruction of the Alta Vendita, section XIX, 1st half of the 19th century — emphasis added).

As the late John Vennari, then the editor of Catholic Family News explained, the “Alta Vendita was the highest lodge of the Carbonari, an Italian secret society with links to Freemasonry and which, along with Freemasonry, was condemned by the Catholic Church.”

Thus this quote from the Alta Vendita gives us an idea of what some Freemasons had historically been looking for with regard to the Pope of the Catholic Church…

According to this and other Masonic documents that were seized by the papal police, the Masons were hoping for a pope according to their own needs, not a pope who is part of their “brotherhood,” but a pope who goes along with their mentality…

Galeazzi-Pinotti also reported about some statements made by the Mason Nicola Spinello:

Nicola Spinello, Adjunct-Vicar Grand Master of the Piazza del Gesù Community, replied to the question put to him by the television show Mystery [Mistero] aired March 20, 2013: “What is the relationship between the Jesuits and the Freemasons? Jesuits and Freemasonry have always had a great mutual speculative interest… “

Then the question: “The pope is from Argentina, and in Argentina, there is a great Masonic tradition; he was archbishop of Buenos Aires, do you think that he may have had relationships with Freemasonry?”

He [Spinello] replied: “Exactly the opposite would astonish me, namely: if he did not have them [these relationships]. The Masonic tradition in Argentina is very powerful.”

And to another question of the interviewer he responded: “I believe that this pope is the realization of a design that has long wanted to be adopted.”

3 Nabbed for Killing Macedonia Family

Eldest daughter said to have carried out murders

(ANSA) — Belgrade, September 3 — The Macedonian interior ministry on Monday said three people had been arrested in connection with the recent murder of a Macedonian family living in Italy who had returned home to Macedonia for a wedding.

There is “reasonable suspicion” that 28-year-old Blerta Pocesta, the eldest daughter, killed Amit, Nazmie and Anila Pocesta, the ministry said.

The other two arrested were identified by their initials.

F.G., 31, and V.K., 61, came from Gostivar and Debar, police said.

They were said to have procured the weapon used by the young woman and enabled her to flee quickly back to Italy. The family, of Albanian origin and resident in Friuli, was gunned down in their sleep in Macedonia when they went back for a wedding.

The father, mother and teen daughter were killed at Debar, a small town on the border with Albania.

The family had for a long time been resident at Sacile near Pordenone.

The massacre happened on August 27.

The family has another daughter who stayed in Italy.

Italy Special Forces Not Gearing for Libya Intervention

Salvini rules out military move, Italy to be peace protagonist

(ANSA) — Rome, September 3 — The premier’s office on Monday denied media reports that Italian special forces were gearing to intervene in Libya.

“In relation to some news that appeared in today’s press, we categorically deny the preparation of an intervention on the part of Italian special forces in Libya,” it said in a statement.

“Italy continues to follow with attention the evolution of the situation on the ground and it has already publicly expressed concern as well as an invitation to immediately cease hostilities together with the United States, France and the United Kingdom”.

Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini ruled out Italian military intervention in the Libya crisis.

“I exclude military interventions that don’t solve anything,” he said. “And others, too, should understand it”.

“Italy must be the protagonist of pacification in Libya. The incursions of others who have other interests must not prevail over the common good which is peace”.

Salvini said earlier he was in touch with Italians in Libya amid clashes by rebel militias that have prompted the UN-backed government to declare a state of emergency in the capital Tripoli.

“I am in direct contact with our men: soldiers, diplomats, and ENI staff who are experiencing in Libya risks caused by a senseless military intervention,” Salvini said.

He said no harm had yet to be reported.

Italy’s embassy in Tripoli is to stay open despite an attack on the national-unity government by rebel militia, foreign ministry sources told ANSA Monday.

They said the embassy “remains operational but with a more flexible presence, which is being assessed on the basis of the needs and the security situation”.

Some 400 prisoners escaped from a jail in the Libyan capital, authorities said Sunday, as fighting between rival militias that has killed dozens of people forced the U.N.-backed government to declare a state of emergency in and around Tripoli.

The European Commission said Monday “we urge all parties in Libya to immediately cease hostilities”.

A spokesman said “there is no military solution for the situation in Libya, only a political one”.

“The escalation of violence is undermining a situation which is already fragile. “Violence will only lead to more violence to the detriment of the Libyans”.

At least 47 people have been reported dead and 129 injured in eight days in clashes between armed militias in the capital Tripoli, according to the latest toll provided by the Libyan health ministry, the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) said in a statement.

UNSMIL called on all sides affected by the conflict to meet Tuesday at midday in a place to be announced at a later date after deadly clashes over the past few days. UNSMIL called for an “urgent dialogue on the current security situation in Tripoli”, based on resolutions of the Security Council and the offer of the UN secretary general to mediate between various Libyan sides. Back in Italy, government sources said no government summit has been scheduled so far on the Libya crisis.

Oil giant ENI said Monday its activities in Libya were proceeding as normal and “there are no expatriated staff present in Tripoli”.

The fighting in Tripoli erupted last week when the Seventh Brigade, militias which hail from Tarhouna, a town about 40 miles (60 kilometers) south of Tripoli, attacked southern neighbourhoods of the capital. The Tripoli Revolutionaries’ Brigades and the Nawasi Brigade, militias which support the U.N.-backed government, have come to the city’s defense.

Defense Minister Indicates Israel Could Hit Iranian Targets in Iraq

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman appeared to imply Monday that Israel could hit Iranian targets in Iraq, days after the Reuters news agency reported that Tehran was providing ballistic missiles and training to loyalist militias there.

“As for the threat from Iran, we are not limiting ourselves to Syria. That should be clear,” Liberman told a conference organized by Hadashot TV news.

Asked specifically if this included Iraq, the defense minister answered: “I’m saying we will handle any Iranian threat, no matter where it comes from. We are maintaining the right to act… and any threat or anything else that comes up is dealt with.”

The Friday report, citing several unnamed Iranian, Iraqi and Western officials, stated that several dozen rockets capable of hitting Israel and Tehran’s Sunni rival Saudi Arabia had been deployed with Iran’s Shiite proxies in Iraq…

Vassar Disorientation Guide Urges Students to “Slap a Zionist”

From Professor William Jacobson at the website, Legal Insurrection:

[…]There also was a section on free speech, obviously a reaction to my appearance on campus. Here’s an excerpt (starting at p. 25 of the Guide):

Like many ‘liberal’ colleges, Vassar has found itself embroiled in claims that free speech is under attack and conservative voices are suppressed. Following backlash to conservative blogger William Jacobson’s speech on campus, he published an article titled “My profree speech views made me the target of a smear campaign at Vassar College”. Jacobson denounced “anti-free speech progressives” and claimed the criticism he faced sent the message “that support for the 1st Amendment and freedom of speech is not welcome”. Other articles like “It’s Tough Being Conservative At Vassar” and “Charlottesville 2.0? Leftists smear peaceful free speech activists” have furthered the idea of the intolerant left at Vassar and stirred up fear of liberal censorship….

The cry that one’s “free speech” is being infringed upon is often employed as a tool to distract from analyses of oppressive structures and promote a reactionary agenda. The far right is quick to draw attention to the seemingly outlandish responses they garner. In doing this, they divert from legitimate critiques of the deeply embedded white supremacy and fascist undertones of their movements. Playing up a narrative of the “intolerant left” and masquerading as victims, they gain space to further grow their organizations and terrorize vulnerable populations. In their call for a diversity of opinions, oppression is masked as just another different point of view. To consider alt-right rhetoric simply another perspective worth hearing out is to give fascism a platform. At a time when right-wing terror is spreading, allowing regressive speech to go unchallenged only spreads danger. As of right now, we are in a struggle for control, not a dialogue. Vassar does need a diversity of thought. It needs to be dismantled. Making room for reactionary voices will further legitimize hate. Instead, let’s start having critical conversations and get to work dismantling power imbalances. Only then in the absence of hierarchy, will we have the equal footing that is fundamental to speech that’s truly free.

That the creators of the Disorientation Guide felt obligated to devote so much space to me reflects that my speech had a positive impact on campus. And that’s good.

But there was a section of the Disorientation Guide which sparked much more controversy. As part of the attack on Zionists and Israel, the Guide called for students to “slap a Zionist” as part of many other actions students could take[…]

  3. Psychologically and sociologically speaking, women don’t feel the same kind of attachment to their “tribe” as men do. From their point of view (biologically speaking) it doesn’t matter who their mate is, as long as it’s the seemingly strongest one in the pack. Put in perspective of today’s Europe, it’s no surprise teenage girls get interested in adult men put in their classes, as those are years ahead of the girls’ peers who might still act like children on many ocassions. Similarily it’s why women fall for migrants, especially if we take into account how said migrants sugarcoat everything at first.
So when do women change their behaviour? Simple. When their children get into danger.
This just means the situation in Germany has gotten to a critical point and (East) German women aren’t brainwashed enough to ignore their instincts and flock to whichever group offers them support. Now that number just needs to continue to rise.

  4. “A Skop institute poll published on Sunday, a week before the election, credited the Social Democrats with 23.8 percent of support, compared with 31 percent in the 2014 election; SD with 20 percent, up from 13 percent in 2014; and the Moderates with 17 percent, down from 23 percent.”

So that accounts for 60% of the vote, where is the other 40% going to go? Undecided or to minor parties?

The Aid Industry finally admitting defeat. After decades of pouring money into African Aid projects, today the continent is little better off than at the start. Contrast the development explosion from Asia, who back in the 1970’s were at a similar level of underdevelopment and poverty. Today countries like China, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan have left Africa far behind. All Africa can point to is a generation of billionaire former presidents now living in Geneva.

On the day of knowledge a group of Schoolgirls came to school in hijabs. One of the users reported about the conflict situation on Facebook. He published a video where the footage shows how the school administration is not allowed in the building of students in hijabs.
“In accordance with the legislation of Kazakhstan, it is forbidden to attend school in religious clothes. We there (in the village of Firdousi) sent a special Commission. We will talk with the parents of students and hope to come to a common decision. On a place there are authorized bodies”, — said the Minister of education and science of Kazakhstan Yerlan Sagadiyev

As you know, Kazakhstan has approved a uniform school uniform of dark blue color. The wearing of religious clothing or its elements to school is prohibited.

    • If the parents don’t like the school environment, they could always homeschool, right? That’s what we did. I read recently that in Russia at least, homeschooling is increasing. It’s far easier than most parents realize.

      • Yes. Former Soviet republics in Central Asia have already experienced the “fascination” of radical Islam and approach Islamization, even stricter than in Russia. Also, the response tension is growing – in Kyrgyzstan massively do not let girls into schools, and boys are given in Madrasah.
Sometimes the situation reaches the point of absurdity: I once read a discussion where the Tajiks were indignant that they were not allowed to wear hijabs and beards in their home country, and that they had to go to Russia to “profess their religion.”

        • I have spent quite a lot of time in Kyrgyzstan over the past 15 years, and while islamization is growing, the government appears to be taking the threat seriously and is taking measures to control it.

Recently, there has been a campaign to discourage the wearing of islamic dress such as burkas and niquabs as something that is alien to Kyrgyz practice of islam and not representative of the heritage of the country. The government has also cracked down on imams who perform unregistered marriages (on underage girls) and on the practice of bride kidnapping. The northern part of the country including the capitol is far more relaxed and secular in the practice of islam, and I think that it will be very difficult for Saudi-style fundamentalism to gain any significant traction there. The population is too well educated and secular for that to happen any time soon. The south of the country bordering Tadjikistan and Uzbekistan is far more concerning though; there the population is poorer and more conservative and much more strict in their practice of islam. The one bright spot is that Russia seems to recognize the strategic value of the region, and has invested heavily in increasing military capabilities there, as well as improving the training and professionalism of the Kyrgyz police and military readiness.

  7. ‘we seek to maintain a tone appropriate to civil discourse on this site. We will continue to enforce standards of civil discourse’

Fair enough! I believe I was the subject of this ban, when I used the words ‘reptilian brain’. I’d just like to (very politely) point out that, according to scientific exploration into the brain’s evolution, we may legitimately refer to the ‘reptilian brain’, as an earlier stage of our neurological evolution. There are many articles available of google search, which can be referred to. I only quote from one.

‘The basic ruling emotions of love, hate, fear, lust, and contentment emanate from this first stage of the brain. Over millions of years of evolution, layers of more sophisticated reasoning have been added upon this foundation.
Our intellectual capacity for complex rational thought which has made us theoretically smarter than the rest of the animal kingdom.
When we are out of control with rage, it is our reptilian brain overriding our rational brain components.’

    From: http://www.crystalinks.com/reptilianbrain.html

Therefore, when I suggest that certain behaviors can be referred to as ‘reptilian’, I do not mean to insult reptiles (as I like them), nor do I suggest that those humans who demonstrate violent, irrational behavior, ARE reptiles. I only mean that their behavior is unreasoning and absurd.

    Sorry for the confusion.

    • No, we wouldn’t delete you – or even redact the word “reptilian”. The B is an amateur herpetologist and likes them, too.

I don’t know why your comment disappeared. I don’t particularly like the WordPress comment system, but we work with what we have.

The forbidden ‘dialogue’ are those words you’d never use with a young relative or rude, ugly name-calling. For example, I will always redact a comment reply to another reader that begins “Nonsense. You don’t know what you’re talking about”.

  8. ‘Italy’s first sex doll brothel is fully booked for weeks after opening today.’

‘Syrian Refugee Excuses Stabbing a German Woman Because He Acted According to His Religion’

The features of modern Western society – secular, nevertheless welcoming Islam, hedonist, but reviling the capitalism which facilitates it, dystopian, yet demanding their euphoric utopia be immediately implemented, subjective, notwithstanding claims of objective truth for their own monologues, (that extol the demolition of Judeo-Christian-Hellenic culture) – must all be viewed as connected!

They are the effluence of a people, which has rejected an Ideal of human character, that formerly distinguished the West from non-Western traditional societies. That Ideal was born in Greek philosophy and expanded by Judeo-Christian scholarship. It is now dead.

I believe the present debasement of human relations, caused by Marx-inspired Political Correctness in the service of power elites, will produce its own antidote. It is up to us to visualize a new Ideal.

    • I can see why you grow tired of the continual bad news. I do, too, sometimes – which is why I post some of Dr Turley’s videos. He is delighted in the change he sees in the U.S. and Europe.

However, I will try to make a point of sending the B some occasional good pieces for the news feed. Especially science and technology innovations.
