An Online Vigil in Defense of Julian Assange With Daniel Ellsberg, Craig Murray, Bill Binney and Ray McGovern

Joe Lauria, editor-in-chief of Consortium News, on Saturday helped moderate a daylong chain of interviews in defense of WikiLeaks and its publisher Julian Assange, including a discussion with Daniel Ellsberg.

A #Unity4J online vigil was held on Saturday to defend the WikiLeaks editor-in-chief, whose sanctuary at the Ecuadorian embassy in London has turned into torturous solitary confinement.

Among the participants on Saturday were Craig Murray, a former U.K. ambassador; Nat Parry, son of Consortium New’s founder and first editor, Robert Parry; Bill Binney, former technical director at the National Security Agency, and Ray McGovern, a former CIA officer. Joe Lauria interviewed Daniel Ellsberg, the Pentagon Papers whistleblower and author of The Doomsday Machine: Confessions of a Nuclear War Planner.

David Horowitz Explains How George Soros and the ‘Shadow Party’ Rule Over Democrats

Horowitz said that funding from Soros’s foundations shape much of the culture in today’s American society, but the end goal behind it is much more sinister. “I’m a former radical so I know how sinister and evil and malevolent the left is,” he said.

The true agenda behind Soros and the “Shadow Party” Horowitz said, is to “make America a one-party state and to silence people like myself.”

“[Soros] put together a coalition like the Working Party, and then he has things like the Democracy Alliance, which is a $50 million operation where he funnels money into Democratic candidates,” Horowitz said. “He’s very obsessed with Secretaries of State because they control the election process.”

“He owns the Democratic Party, [through] his networks,” Horowitz said, adding that “it really would be impossible for any democratic congressman or woman to run for office—even an incumbent—and get elected without the support of the Soros network.”

He said the foundations infiltrate into every sector of society. “The so-called philanthropic foundations, it’s a cultural machine—writers, awards… This leftist coalition has a stranglehold on all these things.”

DOJ Not Buying Harvard’s Defense in Affirmative Action Case

The Department of Justice has filed an amicus brief arguing that a lawsuit accusing Harvard University of intentionally discriminating against Asian Americans in its admissions process should proceed to trial.

The DOJ says Harvard has failed to show that its practices are not discriminatory, as required by the Supreme Court, and that there is evidence that school officials “monitor and manipulate the racial makeup of incoming classes.”

It’s Time for an RSS Revival

The modern web contains no shortage of horrors, from ubiquitous ad trackers to all-consuming platforms to YouTube comments, generally. Unfortunately, there’s no panacea for what ails this internet we’ve built. But anyone weary of black-box algorithms controlling what you see online at least has a respite, one that’s been there all along but has often gone ignored. Tired of Twitter? Facebook fatigued? It’s time to head back to RSS.

For many of you, that means finding a replacement for Digg Reader, which went the way of the ghost this month. Or maybe you haven’t used RSS since five years ago, when Google Reader, the beloved firehose of news headlines got the axe. For others, it means figuring out what the heck an RSS feed is in the first place—we’ll get to that in just a minute. And some of you have already moved on to the next article in your Feedly queue.

No matter what your current disposition, though, in this age of algorithmic overreach there’s something deeply satisfying about finding stories beyond what your loudest Twitter follows shared, or that Facebook’s News Feed optimized into your life. And lots of tools that can get you there. Cue RSS

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication (or Rich Site Summary) and it was first stitched into the tapestry of the open web around the turn of the millennium. Its aim is straightforward: to make it easy to track updates to the content of a given website in a standardized format.

In practice, and for your purposes, that means it can give you a comprehensive, regularly updated look at all of the content your favorite sites publish throughout the day. Think of it as the ultimate aggregator; every morsel from every source you care about, fed directly to you. Or, more commonly, fed to you through an intermediary known as an RSS feed reader, software that helps you wrangle all of those disparate headlines into something remotely manageable.

‘We’re trying to keep things as they were.’

Ben Wolf, The Old Reader

The difference between getting news from an RSS reader and getting it from Facebook or Twitter or Nuzzel or Apple News is a bit like the difference between a Vegas buffet and an a la carte menu. In either case, you decide what you actually want to consume. But the buffet gives you a whole world of options you otherwise might never have seen.

McCain’s Death Changes Nothing, The “Deep State” Will Replace Him

Both sides shared a common ground in believing that his death represented something very significant, whether in a positive or negative way, but the reality is that it doesn’t change anything at all.

McCain voluntarily became one of the public faces of the Liberal-Globalist faction of the American “deep state” and is therefore easily replaceable, even if his cartoonish war-mongering rhetoric isn’t.

The world isn’t any more or less safe now that he died because the same network that he represented is still in place even if the messenger changes, which is exactly what will happen once Soros and other similar icons eventually pass away too.

MS-13 Gang Used California Farm Town as a Base for Crime

More than two dozen MS-13 gang members and affiliates were arrested and charged following a months long murder and drug trafficking investigation centered on a rural California farm city that the gang turned into a base for its operations, U.S. and state prosecutors said Friday.

MS-13 took advantage of limited resources in the city of Mendota and used it and other areas of Fresno County to “conduct their crimes, to hide out from crimes that they committed in other jurisdictions and to prepare to commit crimes in states as far away as New York,” Fresno County District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp said at a news conference in Fresno with state and federal officials.

Mendota has a population of roughly 11,000 people and lies 35 miles (60 kilometers) west of Fresno in California’s agriculturally rich Central Valley. Nearly the entire population is Hispanic, with many immigrants from El Salvador.

Pregnant Mom Kills Home Invader in Justified Shooting, Now Going to Prison for the Gun She Used

Do convicted felons have the constitutional right to defend themselves with a firearm? The answer to the question, in most U.S. states is a resounding no. Those who do, like Arkansas native Krissy Noble, face years in prison, all for choosing to protect their lives and the lives of their loved ones with a firearm.

Noble was cleared of all wrongdoing in the Dec. 7th shooting death of Dylan Stancoff, who attacked her in her own home. Noble was pregnant at the time of the shooting when Stancoff, calling himself Cameron White, stopped by her home and asked to speak to Noble’s husband who was not home at the time. Saying he was a friend from the military, Stancoff left but returned later, pushed himself into Noble’s home, attempted to cover her mouth to prevent her from screaming, and began to struggle with the mother-to-be.

Noble escaped briefly and retrieved a .40 caliber handgun, fired three shots, and killed her attacker. But because Noble pleaded guilty (before the shooting in 2017) to felony possession of marijuana, she now faces six years in prison, all for the crime of using her husband’s handgun, a gun she successfully used to defend herself and the life of her unborn baby.

Trump Says North Carolina Redistricting Ruling ‘Unfair’

President Donald Trump says the prospect of North Carolina drawing new congressional districts just weeks before the November midterm elections is “unfair.” A panel of federal judges this week struck down the state’s congressional map, saying Republican state legislators went too far in using political data to preserve GOP-held seats. The judges raised the possibility of drawing new districts by mid-September so they can be used in the Nov. 6 elections, or at least before the new Congress is seated in January.

Republicans are objecting to the plan, which comes as the party — and Trump — fight to defend the GOP House majority.

Trump addressed the redistricting issue during a fundraising appearance Friday in Charlotte for a pair of GOP congressional candidates.

“I think it’s unfair with this whole redistricting thing they’re doing in North Carolina. How unfair is that?” he said.

“It’s very unfair. You have an election in a little more than 60 days and they change the district on you? And you’ve already won primaries. How does that work? The court system, OK. How does that work?” Trump said. “You’ve all gone through primaries or most of you have. It’s been districted for many years and now you have to redraw lines to have a new district even though you won a primary in another district?”

Will the Split-Roll Property Tax Destroy California?

A split roll tax means applying a tax formula for commercial and industrial properties different from the formula applied for residential properties. The tax roll is an official breakdown or list of all the properties to be taxed.

California Proposition 13 protects property-owners from very high or very low re-assessed property values each year by increasing the base value of a property by not-to-exceed 2% per year for inflation. The market value of properties is taxed at a 1% base tax rate and is re-assessed upon re-sale, not each year. Activists want the reassessments pegged to market value appreciation not a fixed 2% each year.

Toronto Taxi Driver Charged With Sexual Assault, Fraud

A Toronto taxi driver is facing charges after a woman claimed she was sexually assaulted in the city’s West Queen West neighbourhood.

The 32-year-old woman told police that she was sexually assaulted after she was picked up by a taxi driver at around 4 a.m. near Queen Street West and Tecumseth Street on Saturday.

Police allege the taxi driver stole the woman’s credit card and used it to make purchases at multiple locations in the city.

Investigators made an arrest in the case on Wednesday when a suspect turned himself in.

A suspect identified as 62-year-old Golam Mustafa has been charged with one count of sexual assault, nine counts of fraud under $5,000, nine counts of use of a stolen credit card and nine counts of possession of stolen property.

He appeared in court on the charges on Thursday.

Trump: ‘No Political Necessity’ To Keep Canada in NAFTA

‘We make new deal or go back to pre-NAFTA!’

If Canada can’t make a fair trade deal with the United States soon, it will be excluded from the current negotiations with Mexico, President Trump announced.

“There is no political necessity to keep Canada in the new NAFTA deal. If we don’t make a fair deal for the U.S. after decades of abuse, Canada will be out,” Trump tweeted Saturday.

There is no political necessity to keep Canada in the new NAFTA deal. If we don’t make a fair deal for the U.S. after decades of abuse, Canada will be out. Congress should not interfere w/ these negotiations or I will simply terminate NAFTA entirely & we will be far better off…

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 1, 2018

Trump then warned Congress not to “interfere” with the trade negotiations or else he’ll strip away NAFTA completely, which would still be better than the current NAFTA framework.

“Congress should not interfere with these negotiations or I will simply terminate NAFTA entirely and we will be far better off,” he tweeted.

“Remember, NAFTA was one of the WORST trade deals ever made. The U.S. lost thousands of businesses and millions of jobs. We were far better off before NAFTA — should never have been signed. Even the vat tax was not accounted for. We make new deal or go back to pre-NAFTA!”

Godfrey Bloom: “Get Ready for a Fake Brexit That Will Fool No One”

Claudio Grass: From her actions, or rather lack thereof, we can see that Theresa May seems to be a true Bremainer still and is not willing to enforce the will of the people. What do you think of what is going on and will the politicians be able to ignore the majority of the people who voted to leave?

Godfrey Bloom: Americans with their genius for enriching the English language with contemporary phraseology coined the term “Deep State”. In my many TV & radio interviews over the last ten years I have warned a true Brexit will not be available. The political ideal of a federal Europe runs too deep and has been around too long.

Modern western industrial economies are run by bureaucrats who manipulate the levers of government. They enjoy salaries and pensions beyond the dreams of ordinary workers. Moreover, they are beholden to no higher accountability system. There are no shareholders, no performance monitoring of any significance, they are unsackable.

Their personal interest is maintenance of the status quo. Senior civil servants specifically made a decision at university to avoid the cut and thrust of commerce or relatively low pay of academic life. The system of government therefore can thwart even the most enthusiastic of ministers.

Politicians remain in office for relatively short periods of time. The bureaucrat can play the long game: stall, bluster, misinform. The wonderful British satire “Yes Minister” of the 1980s showed the game at its best; hilarious but frighteningly true.

The EU federal dream is shared by the civil servant. It is utopia for the bureaucrat. He becomes seriously important, far more so than his political master who is here today and gone tomorrow. For the last forty years, it has been impossible to climb the promotional ladder without a deep and sincere commitment to the European project.

Interestingly, the senior civil service is now largely recruited from the lower middle classes, the petit bourgeoisie, a class not used to power or how to exercise it pro bono publico, but effective in wielding it if the cause is negative. Their junior colleagues are drawn to the health and safety industry. There are no civil servants who voted Leave. All were horrified at the result and have schemed for two years to thwart the electorate…

Claudio Grass: How do you see the future of the UK and the fate of free speech in particular? I remember the champions of the enlightenment saying that people can only enlighten themselves if they are free to use their own reason and to freely debate different points of view. As we can witness all over the world, free speech is very much under siege. What kind of reaction do you expect in the UK — will the people comply with the rules of the thought police or will they resist?

Godfrey Bloom: Free speech is under significant threat and has been for thirty years. It crept up on an unsuspecting public in the guise of political correctness. It manifests itself in a fascinating way. There is a lexicon of words and phrases that are strictly taboo. It is led in the UK by public service broadcasting which is the high church of what may or may not be said.

Examples are almost too many to document, but recent examples include a suspension of a British MP for letting slip a very old phrase, “nigger in the wood pile”. The poor woman was almost hounded from elected office for what was at worst a lapse of taste. No groveling apology was enough, the politically correct mob wanted blood.

My own reference to Bongo Bongo Land sent the MSM into a hysterical spiral, a suggestion that Goldman Sachs was a Jewish bank nearly set the twittering classes on fire and at the time of writing Boris Johnson is in hot water for suggesting the burka is like wearing a letter box on your head. Well it is, isn’t it? But you see, there are some things you can say and some you can’t. The rules are very obscure, nor is there a final arbiter of what is correct or not.

The concept though is carefully designed to suppress free speech. It is highly effective, as those in public life dread committing the great major sins, being racist, misogynist, anti-Semitic, Islamophobic etc. Hair shirt is immediate public ally worn. Public figures pander to these prejudices by treating them seriously.

The Nazi Roots of the ‘Brussels EU’

by Dr Matthais Rath

On Monday, December 10, 2012, the so-called ‘Brussels EU’ received the Nobel Peace Prize — allegedly for preserving peace in Europe. Now that the dust has settled, the people of the world deserve to learn the facts behind this PR event:

1. The ‘Brussels EU’ is not a democratic body. Neither its president nor its executive body, the so-called ‘EU Commission’ can be elected — or unelected — by the people.

2. The 27 members of this ‘EU Executive’ are appointed on behalf of corporate interests — namely, the chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industry, the ‘Oil and Drug Cartel’. These ‘Commissars’ rule Europe with the help of more than 50,000 paid bureaucrats — none of whom are democratically legitimized either.

3. The ‘EU Parliament’ — parading as a democratic institution — is little more than a ‘fig leaf’ — and lacks crucial hallmarks of any democracy, such as the right to initiate new legislation.

4. The blueprints for this undemocratic construct derive from the intended post-World War II plans of the Nazis and their main corporate financiers, the infamous IG Farben Inc. (BAYER, BASF, HOECHST etc.), the world’s largest chemical, pharmaceutical Cartel at that time.

5. The first president and chief architect of what is known today as the ‘Brussels EU’ was Walter Hallstein, a German lawyer. Before and during WWII, Hallstein had been a key architect of the new dictatorial ‘world order’ via which the Nazi/Cartel Coalition had planned to rule Europe and later the world.

Palestinian Refugees: Trump’s Reality Check

The Trump administration’s reported plan to overturn US policy on the issue of Palestinian refugees is long overdue. According, initially, to media reports, the new policy — scheduled to be unveiled in early September and based on sealed classified information from the US State Department — will reduce the number of Palestinians defined by the UN as “refugees” from five million to 500,000, thus refuting the figures claimed by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). The UN figures include descendants (not only children, but grandchildren and great grandchildren) of Palestinians across the world who have never even set foot in Israel, the Gaza Strip or the Palestinian Authority (PA). The new plan will also apparently include a rejection of the Palestinians’ so-called “right of return” to Israel of refugees and their descendants.

Washington also announced that it is cutting all US funding to UNRWA, and will reportedly “ask Israel to ‘reconsider’ the mandate it gives UNRWA to operate in the West Bank.”

China’s Ministry of State Security is Operating in Silicon Valley, Says Former Intel Officer

The Chinese regime’s Ministry of State Security (MSS) and Russia’s intelligence services are running spy operations in Silicon Valley, says former senior U.S. Naval Intelligence officer John Jordan.

According to Jordan, the MSS and Russian spy networks have been active in Silicon Valley since the 1970s. The Russian networks initially focused on advancing Soviet interests for political and military espionage, particularly around a naval base in Alameda and an Army base in the Presidio.

The Chinese operations, on the other hand, have continued unabated. Their focus is on the theft of technology, with the long-term goal to help the Chinese Communist Party catch up with and surpass the United States technologically and economically. Over time, the Russian operations have also switched focus in a similar way to the Chinese operations, Jordan said.

Montfort Mlachila, the IMF’s senior resident representative in South Africa, said that the regulation must not damage agricultural output and put at risk food supplies for the country’s citizens.

“We are in full support of the need to undertake land reforms in order to address the issues of inequality,” Mlachila said in an interview with Reuters.

“There is need to have a transparent, rules-based, and constitutional process that leads to desirable outcomes. It is particularly important not to undermine agricultural production and food security.”

The widely debated land reform was proposed by the country’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) in 2015, and received full support of the newly elected President Cyril Ramaphosa. The proposed measure will allow the South African government to expropriate land belonging to the country’s white farmers without compensation.

Microwave Weapons May Have Been Used Against U.S. Embassy Officials in Havana

The Department of State is entertaining the idea that microwave attacks were behind the mysterious illnesses that plagued diplomats working in the U.S. embassy in Havana, Cuba.

Beginning in late 2016, more than three dozen U.S. diplomats and family members living in Cuba and China reported puzzling brain ailments such as dizziness, headaches and blurry vision. Some diplomats described moments where they heard loud ringing and buzzing sounds. For months, the State Department considered the mysterious incidents to possibly be the result of “sonic attacks.”

Not only do federal investigators have yet to determine what devices were used against American officials, but they are still unaware who was behind them.

Heated Tones Can Stimulate on Migrants — Moavero

Italy seeking to expand Sophia landing remit

(ANSA) — Vienna, August 31 — Heated tones can help Italy in its ultimatum to the EU over migrants, Foreign Minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi said Friday.

“It’s clear that heated tones may not help to find the easiest solution, but with equal honesty we must say they can stimulate, give the shocks that then enable us to arrive at a solution,” he said.

“The issue is delicate and sensitive. It finds a very keen attention by public opinion in all countries.

“Strong tones, also of opposition, have not come only from Italy”.

Italy is seeking to rotate the Sophia mission’s landings so that other countries other than Italy can take some in. Moavero said there was still no agreement among EU foreign ministers on Italy’s request for Sophia.

Progressives: The Real World vs. Neverland

[…]

Many children in adult bodies also seem not to know that Socialism failed in the Soviet Union, Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Romania, Albania, Bulgaria, China, North Korea, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, and Cuba, and is now failing in Venezuela. Yet, illogically, they appear to believe that they themselves could make it work. The irrational wish is evidently stronger than rational arithmetic.

These victims of arrested emotional development seem to confuse good motives with good results. They want better health care for a greater number of people at a lesser cost; so they fantasize that they can achieve it without denying care to those who are too old, too sick or too expensive to receive it. They kind-heartedly want a “more equal distribution of wealth”; so they fantasize that they can maneuver it without penalizing and discouraging the productive members of society, while rewarding and encouraging the unproductive ones. Yet this is exactly what has happened wherever the redistribution of wealth was tried.

These people, like all of us, want to be liked; so they fantasize that if they treat others kindly, the behavior will be reciprocated. They refer respectfully to the unelected theocratic leader of Iran as “Supreme Leader,” even as oppressed Iranian demonstrators are arrested, beaten, tortured or killed.

Watch: World’s First Man-Free Music Festival Kicks Off in Sweden

The first-ever “cis man-free” music festival began in Sweden on Friday, following a wave of sexual assault incidents reported at events across the Scandinavian country in 2017.

Held in Sweden’s second-largest city of Gothenburg, the two-day Statement Festival forbids males from attending — with the exception of transgender women born as men. Plans for the festival were unveiled last year after law enforcement received four rape and 23 sexual assault reports at Sweden’s largest Bravalla Festival, prompting organizers to cancel this year’s event.

      • In any case, it is not written in Russian.
At the time of publication of this news in the press, it was only in Russian.
Are you a website owner? I’ll stop writing if he asks me to. If he’s not interested.
Or are there other informants about what is happening in Russia?

        • Please keep writing. It is hard to get reliable information from your part of the world. I appreciate your posts.

        • That was not addressed to you, but to the person who left the comment. Please keep commenting and linking to whatever is out there. The Tsarnaev brothers were initially described as Caucasian. Well, they were exactly that!

    • It is the revenge of history. At times forgotten (1953) my mother’s cousin did the highly risky escape from Communist Bulgaria by boat, chances 1:100 to escape the border comtrol on both sides using this sort of transport for escape. He got a reward – 6 months in a Turkish detain camp worse that the worst prison, a short trip to Italy and they decided he is not “interesting” enough, officially returned to Bulgaria where he was in prison for 6 years (those were te milder times about 1960). I remember this guy excellent. Rarely would someone invite him, but when this happened, he tried to get drunk quickly and in response to all questions and doubts he said: “Politics is the greatest whore ever”
