Gates of Vienna News Feed 8/20/2018

The South African government has begun the process of expropriating land from white farmers. If the landowners fail to come to an agreement with the government on a sale price, their property will simply be taken without compensation.

In other news, a man pulled out a knife in front of a police station in Catalonia and attempted an attack on police while crying “Allahu Akhbar”. One of the cops shot him dead before he could hurt anyone. The motive for the attack is unknown.

At Least 60 Shot, 8 Killed in Another Deadly Chicago Weekend

CHICAGO — For the second time this month, more than 60 people were shot over the course of a weekend in Chicago. At least eight of the 61 people struck by bullets this weekend have died, Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson confirmed during a Monday morning press conference.

That includes two missing teenage boys found dead in a field late Sunday night, reports CBS Chicago.

Box Office: Kevin Spacey’s ‘Billionaire Boys Club’ Earns Abysmal $126 on Opening Day

The ensemble crime-drama — also starring Ansel Elgort and Taron Egerton — marks a career box-office low for the disgraced Spacey after premiering first on VOD.

Disgraced actor Kevin Spacey is enduring a career low at the box office this weekend.

The ensemble crime-drama Billionaire Boys Club quietly opened Friday in eight theaters scattered in select states across the U.S. The indie film earned an abysmal $126 for the day and another $162 on Saturday for a two-day total of just $287 following its release on premium VOD last month, according to those with access to theater grosses.

For the full weekend, Billionaire Boys Club looks to have earned just $618 from a total of 11 theaters (the additional locations didn’t report any grosses on Friday and Saturday).

CBS News Pollster Reveals Why ‘Blue Wave’ Is Unlikely

It wasn’t some sadistic punishment. It was Election Day, and Salvanto, head pollster for CBS News, was one of the few experts allowed see the exit-poll data as it rolled in.

Chicago ‘Peace Picnic’ Turns Violent: 3 People Shot: Another is Beaten

Three people were shot at a back-to-school peace picnic held at a playground in Chicago on Saturday night.

A fourth person was beaten up at the event that was held to promote peace and community.

The picnic, which took place at Seward Park on the city’s North Side, was off to a safe start, but onlookers say the mood quickly turned when a group of young men showed up and started fighting.

“It’s senseless and should have never happened,” an organizer of a peace picnic said after the event turned violent. (Getty Images)

“It’s senseless and should have never happened,” event organizer Raymond Hatcher told reporters. “We were doing well. Everything was going swell and then a group of guys who were not associated with us, came to the event intoxicated.”…

CIA Chief Brennan’s Treasonous Actions on Behalf of Deep State Ignored

“If you want to know what the Democrats are doing or plotting, just listen to what they accuse Republicans of doing or plotting.” — Ann Coulter

“John Brennan’s resume includes voting for Communist Party of America’s presidential candidate Gus Hall; converting to Saudi Arabian-style Islam (Wahabbism) while serving as CIA bureau chief in Saudi Arabia; and helping to turn the intelligence community and counter-terrorism police units into tools of President Barack Obama and the Democratic Party. In short, it is he who has exhibited treasonous behavior, not President Donald Trump who is the recipient of enormous hate from Brennan.” — Chief Perry Townsend, Morrisville Police Department

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump finally fulfilled another of his promises: Trump revoked former CIA director-turned-MSNBC propagandist John Brennan’s security clearance. Trump isn’t expected to stop with Brennan. The scuttlebutt circulating among law enforcement officials, who spoke to Conservative Base’s editor, is that the President and his national security/homeland security team are still working on the revocation of security clearances for James Clapper, James Comey, Michael Hayden, Sally Yates, Susan Rice, Andrew McCabe, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page and Bruce Ohr.

In response, Brennan practically ran to his co-conspirators at the former cable news network turned infomercial haven for the Democratic Party’s Deep State, MSNBC, and went on-the-air and called Trump treasonous and other derogatory terms.

James Clapper should be next as both he and Brennan work for CNN. That will cut off CNN from classified material, they can’t be trusted with. In fact, no one on that list can be trusted and by time Congress or Sessions acts, Trump’s second term will be over. There is no justifiable reason to allow them to keep access to this material or anything new that pops up.

Citizen Announces He’s Running Against Corrupt Sheriff, His Home is Raided, Wife Kidnapped

In the land of the free, practicing democracy is often futile and even more often, highly corrupt. Illustrating the corrupt nature of this process is a case out of Georgia in which a sheriff with a history of alleged criminal activity is accused of harassing, intimidating, and even arresting innocent people who challenge his authority.

On August 10, Robert Hawes, a former deputy with the Clayton County sheriff’s department, announced that he would be running against the incumbent Sheriff Victor Hill. Days later police would be in his home, kidnapping his wife.

“This sounds like an effort to intimidate a potential political opponent, which is in my mind, not an appropriate use of law enforcement powers,” Harvey Newman, professor emeritus at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University told AJC. “We want people to feel able to speak truth to power. But this appears to be an effort to, if not silence that, to at least intimidate it.”

Facebook ‘Censors’ Conservative Education Page, Says it Was a Mistake, But Few Are Convinced

Facebook says it had mistakenly deleted videos and limited the reach of US conservative educational organization PragerU. The content has now been restored, but PragerU supporters don’t think it was an accident.

PragerU (short for Prager University, after its founder Dennis Prager) says nine of its posts reached none of its three million-odd followers, and at least two videos were deleted for “hate speech,” in what many conservatives see as part of Facebook’s ongoing censorship campaign. Facebook has now apologized and restored the content, but has offered no explanation beyond “we’re looking into it.”

First They Came for Alex Jones

This past week, the nation’s newspapers took collective umbrage at being called “the enemy of the people” by President Trump.

“That is what Nazis called Jews,” gasped the editors of the Kansas City Star. “A form even appeared in Nazi Germany, when Jewish people were called an ‘enemy of the state,’“ fretted the editors of the Topeka Capital-Journal.

These being the only two editorials I read, I have to imagine that many more of the roughly 400 protesting newsrooms engaged in some variation on the reductio ad Hitlerum theme. Even if all 400 did, no halfway sentient adult can take this self-indulgence seriously.

Here is why. Since President Trump’s election, every major magazine, every major social media outlet, every major newspaper, just about all of Hollywood and Broadway, and every major TV network save for Fox News have conspired to destroy the president.

During this time, these “journalists” have treated their audiences to an endless stream of anti-Trump propaganda only marginally rooted in the truth, and not a one of them has seen a pink slip, let alone a gas chamber.

Google-Funded News Org Justifies Google’s Censorship: InfoWars is ‘Gateway’ For White Supremacists

As Google is banning Alex Jones and Infowars from their platforms, they’re simultaneously funding a news organization which is justifying their censorship by demonizing Jones as a “gateway” to white supremacy.

“The Center for Investigative Reporting” has a list of their backers on their website. The list includes George Soros’s Open Society Foundations, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Ford Foundation and Google News Lab.

InfoWars Turns Readers Into Nazi Zombies

According to Reveal and the Center for Investigative Reporting reading Infowars will turn you into a white supremacist. It’s a racist recruiting tool, they insist.

Case in point: Andrew Anglin, the former hippie vegan who now edits The Daily Stormer. His previous effort was named Total Fascism.

Anglin’s 2015 interview [aired on the Stormfront site] shows that Jones’ brand of conspiracy peddling also helps usher new recruits into the white supremacist movement. Seeing the whole world as a massive conspiracy is a foundational part of the white nationalist mindset.

In other words, if you read Infowars and listen to Alex Jones, you eventually end up a Nazi or worse.

This ridiculous supposition—believed by millions of liberals and anti-Jones activists—is based on the experience of one man who obviously has mental health issues. So much for investigative reporting.

But this inanity should be expected, considering who funds and supports Reveal.

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Carnegie Corporation of New York, Ford Foundation (CIA), Google News Lab, and a pile of foundations, including Open Society Foundations run by George Soros.

In order to underscore this harebrained assertion, Reveal tapped David Neiwert, an establishment journalist who cranks out “Hatewatch” propaganda for the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Internet Censorship: Appeal to Reinstate “American Everyman”

Just a week or so after Spotify, Google, Apple and Facebook made the curiously synchronized move to kick Alex Jones and InfoWars off their platforms, and just days after Facebook shut down Venezuelan news network TeleSur’s facebook page (for the second time), the war on the free internet has opened up another front.

Small independent blogs are being shut down, seemingly without reason and certainly without explanation.

AmericanEveryman.com has been closed without notice or warning, according to the blog’s owner Scott Creighton. Allegedly for violating WordPress’ “terms of service”, although they have apparently been entirely vague about how.

Other such blogs — fellowshipofminds.com and jaysanalysis.com — have suffered the exact same fate, on the exact dame day. There is undeniably a push to silence dissent and purge it from the internet. There may well be dozens — even hundreds — of other examples.

McRaven is No Admiral of Mine

Oh, and President Trump — I would waste no time in granting McRaven’s desire to have his security clearance revoked, he deserves the “honor.”

In my book McRaven is a disgrace to the uniform of the US Navy, a disgrace to my beloved SEAL Teams, and a disgrace to the US military as a whole.

McRaven is obviously quite smart, so stupidity is no excuse for his behavior. Which leaves…I don’t know what. Ignorance? Delusion? Arrogance? Naivete? Too much time spent among the Pentagon’s “perfumed princes?” All the above and more?

In any event, he is not fit to shine the shoes of someone such as Admiral James “Ace” Lyons (USN Ret.), a true American patriot who has never forgotten his oath to defend the US Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

According to Mr. Guandolo—a former SWAT team leader at the FBI, counterterrorism and Muslim Brotherhood specialist and Marine platoon commander—what should be an issue was the Saudis’ targeted recruitment of Mr. Brennan to the ideology of Islam while he was serving as the CIA station chief in Riyadh. This was not just a conversion but a political act by a foreign intelligence service.

This is a big deal because these scanners have or will have at some point facial recognition technology which means if you haven’t paid your taxes, gotten your REAL ID, gotten your vaccines, or submitted to some other government demand you will be taken aside where things will happen to you. This is all avoided by not participating in this system. This is why people need to get off the couch and need to start defending their cars and their freedom to travel.

Pope Francis Condemns ‘Clericalism’ In Sex Abuse Letter, Echoing the Protestant Reformation

On Monday, Pope Francis released a letter responding to the massive sexual assault crisis involving 1,000 victims and 300 priests in the Roman Catholic Church in Pennsylvania. Francis condemned “clericalism,” called the entire Catholic Church to fasting and prayer, and presented the scandal in terms of God’s judgment on an unfaithful church. In doing so, he may have inadvertently opened up the debate on clericalism that inspired the Protestant Reformation.

President Trump Just Revealed the Trap John Brennan Caught Himself in… and it’s Glorious!

According to the American Thinker, this may be a sign that the tide is turning and the cabal that conspired to fix the 2016 presidential election and then, when that failed, remove Trump from office is going to be exposed and ultimately held to account. As the Democrats and their media enablers bloviate about John Brennan’s imaginary First Amendment right to a perpetual security clearance, a statement of support for the president came from an unexpected source yesterday.

Lou Dobbs tweeted an official statement from establishment Republican Senator Richard Burr of North Carolina, on comments by Barack Obama’s former CIA director John Brennan:

Senate Intel Chairman, Richard Burr is defending President Trump. I believe this is a remarkable turn in the tides of Washington affairs and may well represent the beginning of the end of the Mueller Witch Hunt. @realDonaldTrump #AmericaFirst #Dobbs

Strzok Fired by FBI But Still Works for the CIA

Peter Strzok’s recent departure from the FBI is meaningless and is just part of the larger stage show as Strzok remains employed by the CIA

FBI Special Agent Peter Strzok was fired by the bureau on Monday over a series of controversial anti-Trump text messages which Peter Strzok and his former lover Lisa Page had exchanged during the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

However, the press has failed to report that Strzok was an agent for both the FBI and CIA at the same time.

That’s right, not only was Strzok employed by the FBI until his abrupt public departure from the bureau on Monday, Strzok has been sheep-dipped by the CIA where he currently remains employed to this day. (i.e. Strzok’s termination from the FBI on Monday was nothing more than a dog and pony show as Strzok remains an integral member of the deep state.

Texas Food Warehouse Shooting Leaves 2 Dead, Including Female Shooter, Police Say

The woman who opened fire at a food warehouse in Texas was among the two employees killed in the early Monday morning shooting, with officials saying she died after a parking lot gun battle with police.

About 20 people were inside the Ben E. Keith Food Distribution Center in Missouri City when the shooting started just after 2 a.m., authorities said. The woman shot the overnight manager at the warehouse.

Police arrived at the scene and discovered the shooter, who was not immediately identified, in the parking lot, where a brief shootout ensued. The woman was struck by a bullet above the chest and died at a hospital, KPRC reported.

It’s unclear if she died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound or due to police gunfire.

At least one other person shot in the leg in the incident. Authorities said the woman’s husband, who also works at the warehouse, was in the building at the time and helped the wounded individual.

Police have not yet said what may have prompted the deadly shooting, but said the shooter may have posted on social media moments before carrying out the deadly incident.

The CIA Owns the US and European Media

William Blum shares with us his correspondence with Washington Post presstitute Michael Birnbaum. As you can tell from Birnbaum’s replies, he comes across as either very stupid or as a CIA asset.

When I received my briefing as staff associate, House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, which required top secret clearance, I was told by senior members of the staff that the Washington Post was a CIA asset. Watching the Washington Post’s takedown of President Richard Nixon with the orchestrated Watergate story, that became obvious. President Nixon had made too many overtures to the Soviets and too many arms limitations agreements, and he opened to China. Watching President Nixon’s peace initiatives water down the threat level from the Soviet Union and Maoist China, the military/security complex saw a threat to its budget and power and decided that Nixon had to go. The assassination of President John F. Kennedy had resulted in far too much skepticism about the Warren Commission Report, so the CIA decided to use the Washington Post to get rid of Nixon. To keep the clueless American left hating Nixon, the CIA used its assets in the leftwing to keep Nixon blamed for the Vietnam war, a war that Nixon inherited and did not want.

The CIA knew that Nixon’s problem was that he could not exit the war without losing his conservative base, which was convinced of the nonsensical “Domino Theory.” I have always wondered if the CIA concocted the “Domino Theory,” as it so well served them. Unable to get rid of the war “with honor,” Nixon was driven to brutal methods to force the North Vietnamese to accept a situation that he could depart without defeat and soiling America’s “honor” and losing his conservative support base. The North Vietnamese wouldn’t bend, but the US Congress did, and so the CIA succeeded in discrediting among both the leftwing and righwing Nixon’s war management. With no one to defend him, Nixon was an easy target for the CIA.

Trumpocalypse, The Dark Machine and a Virtual Armageddon

The psyops’ (psychological operations) warfare against Trump consists of an endless series of mass mind control, propaganda, social engineering and persuasion campaigns like the “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” Russian collusion, the Stormy Daniels’ porn star scandal, constant minimalization of Trump’s documented successes such as America’s economic growth, endless Trump tapes that are psychologically framed to make him look bad, and the all-out mainstream media war against the president.

In addition, this psyops involves the tech giants, social media and internet censorship of conservatives and the alternative media that communicates pro-Trump messages, the “fake news” psyop in which the truly “fake news,” or corporate-controlled media, attacks true news by labeling it as “fake news,” the use of classical brainwashing techniques such as the endless repetition of negative statements and pictures of Trump, and the use of anti-Trump celebrities and authority figures in changing public opinion against Trump. These techniques were first developed by journalist Walter Lippmann in the 1920s and then by Edward Bernays, the father of modern propaganda, in the 1930s. These methods were later used by Adolf Hitler in his rise to power in Nazi Germany.

This psyops also involves the use of comedy as a method of ridicule to demonize and dehumanize Trump. This is a major principle in scientific mind control because it gives the masses of people psychological permission to hate and entertain horrific thoughts in preparation for the next phase of mind control which is programming people to act violently.

Those in the mainstream media and social media who have quoted people saying things like, “Let’s kill Donald Trump,” or broadcasting images of comedian Kathy Griffin holding up Trump’s bloody head, or publishing actor Robert De Niro’s derogatory remarks about Trump at the Tony Awards, to one degree or another are guilty of spreading an “emotional contagion” in which strong anti-Trump emotions and hysteria are spread virally to millions of people. This is the same psyop technique that was used to create the Arab Spring in the Middle East.

My co-author Troy Anderson and I go into detail about this in our best-selling book, Trumpocalypse, in which we document and expose the plans of the Deep State to remove Trump from office.

Watchdog Sues Pentagon on Behalf of Whistleblower Who Questioned Contracts to ‘Spygate’ Figure

A new study has shown that robots can brainwash children, essentially programming their minds into “mindless conformity.” Children can be significantly influenced by machines, even when the robots were obviously wrong.

Writing in Science Robotics, the University of Plymouth researchers behind the study said the findings raise concerns about the potential for robots to have a negative influence on vulnerable children. Children were shown to trust the answer a robot provides over their own assessment, even though it was easily wrong, making “robot pressure,” the new peer pressure, reported RT.

After the death of dictator Joseph Stalin in 1953, the Soviet satellite states that had been under his power began to relax controls.

Nevertheless by 1967 there were more voices speaking out against the regime over freedoms and the economy.

Varoufakis: Greece Should Prepare to Leave Euro, Slams Merkel

Former Greek Minister of Finance, economist and academic has insisted that Greece has lived through a “catastrophe” that requires it now to finally prepare to leave the Euro.

He has said: “For the most part of this past decade Greece has lived through the biggest peacetime economic catastrophe since the Great Depression.

“It is therefore absolutely necessary that the country be prepared to return to its national currency.”

Speaking to Bild, Varoufakis gave short shrift to Germany’s Angela Merkel, saying: “She seems terribly uninspired and devoid of vision to me.

“She will go down in history as the politician who had almost all of the power and possibilities to unite Europe and to lead it into the future and to implement reforms — but then she failed to make use of a historical opportunity. And I don’t trust her in general.”

Caroline Glick: Andrew Brunson’s Case Proves the U.S.-Turkey Alliance Has Been Over for Years

As the crisis in U.S.-Turkey relations escalates, the time has come to imagine the unimaginable.

Imagine that Turkish President Recep Erdogan decides — G-d forbid — to execute American pastor Andrew Brunson.

On Wednesday, a Turkish court in Itzmir province rejected an appeal by Brunson’s lawyer to release him from house arrest and sent the appeal to a higher court.

Imagine that Brunson were to be tried —in a kangaroo court — and found guilty of espionage and support for terrorism.

He is sentenced to death, taken out of the courtroom with a hood over his head, led to the gallows and hung in broad daylight.

The U.S. embassy in Ankara is then invited to pick up his body for disposal.

What would the U.S. do?

It is important to imagine the unimaginable because at this point, the unimaginable is possible.

This is the key point to consider when observing the rapid deterioration Turkish-U.S. relations are now experiencing…

Apple Folds to China Censorhsip, Pulls 25,000 Apps From China Appstore

First it was Google that succumbed to Chinese censorship, when in the name of revenue growth it was revealed that the company that would “do no evil” would offer a censored version of its browser in China (even as its employees reportedly revolted over the clandestine project), and now it is Apple’s turn.

According to the WSJ, under pressure from Chinese state media, Apple said it removed illegal gambling apps from its App Store in China—a move that could help quell the latest challenge for the American tech giant in its most important market outside of the U.S. The Apple store in Beijing

The Journal notes that Apple had been criticized by Chinese news outlets for “not doing enough to filter banned content and applications” and on Sunday, state broadcaster CCTV, which last month reported that Apple’s app store allowed illegal gambling apps disguised as official lottery apps, said that 25,000 apps had been removed.

China’s Path to Global Hegemony: Latest Target is Syria

The BRI, which “encompasses nearly 70 countries,” seemingly aims to counter American influence by achieving dominance — not merely in the realm of trade and culture, but in strategic and military matters, as well — in South and Central Asia, the Middle East and Africa. China’s hegemonic objectives are likely what has led Beijing not only to set its sights on countries such as Iran, Qatar and Turkey, but on Syria, which “controlled overland access to both Europe and Africa in ancient Silk Road times when, after the desert crossing via Palmyra, goods reached the Mediterranean on their way to Rome.” More recently, Syria also produced significant amounts of crude oil during peacetime.

As a result, China appears to be vying for the opportunity to play a key role in the reconstruction of Syria, which has been devastated by the bloody civil war that has been raging there for more than seven years. With much of the West making any funds it provides for the rebuilding of the war-torn country conditional on “a transition away from [Syrian President] Assad” — and with Assad making it clear that “his country would need foreign aid to help with the rebuild but that western companies were not welcome” — Beijing would, it seems, like to fill the vacuum. Offering both humanitarian aid and investments for reconstruction would be the perfect way for China to promote the BRI in Syria. …

Contrary to President Xi’s claim, the Belt and Road Initiative is not a benign project for world “peace and cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit.” It is a dangerous path towards what clearly seems China’s wish for global domination.

China’s Illicit Opioids a ‘Form of Undeclared War’

WASHINGTON—The illicit opioids being manufactured in China and shipped to the United States are “almost a form of warfare,” President Donald Trump said at a cabinet meeting on Aug. 16.

“In China, you have some pretty big companies sending that garbage and killing our people,” Trump said. …

Trevor Loudon, an expert on communism and Epoch Times columnist, said it’s an “absolute fact” that the fentanyl is coming from China.

“And you can’t tell me that in a police state like China—where they know everybody and what everybody is doing—you cannot tell me the Chinese government is not aware of it. You cannot tell me the Chinese government is not controlling it and funding it,” he said in a May 10 interview.

“So that is a form of undeclared war against the Western countries.”

The book “Red Cocaine” by Joseph Douglass Jr. shows how the Chinese regime began pushing the heroin and opium trade back in the 1950s, Loudon said. …

Loudon said past administrations have been too soft on China, afraid to offend its leaders.

“We don’t want to upset the Chinese government in any way. So they’ve been willing to tolerate Americans dying,” he said. “They need to close those borders and prosecute the offenders and trace it right back to China.”

He said the United States extradites drug traffickers from Latin America, Europe, and Africa.

“Well, let’s see them start to extradite Chinese Communist Party officials also involved in the drug trade, because I’m sure the CIA knows exactly who they are.”

Chinese Infiltration in American Schools

In April of 2017, Rachelle Peterson of the National Association of Scholars (NAS) published an in-depth study titled “Outsourced to China: Confucius Institutes and Soft Power in American Higher Education.” Her findings reveal China’s Trojan horse under the guise of intellectual sharing.

The Confucius Institutes are funded through an agency called the Hanban, which has direct ties to the Chinese government, thus ensuring that China gets to weigh in on topics. There is outright suppression on certain subjects — e.g., praising the Dali Lama, the status of Taiwan, and the persecution of members of Falun Gong.

With “China footing the bill, critics say Confucius Institutes are ready-made platforms for … promoting an overly rosy image of China while discouraging discussion of the ‘three Ts’: Tibet, Taiwan and the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre.” In fact,”[t]he Chinese director of one Institute explained that if a student asked about Tiananmen Square, she would ‘show a picture and point out the beautiful architecture.’“

Russia and China Are Developing Impressive New Weapons Systems as They Prepare for War Against the United States

Most wars are won well in advance, and Russia and China are both feverishly preparing to win the next major world war between global superpowers. Meanwhile, the U.S. military has been focused on “fighting terrorism” and projecting U.S. power in a “post-Cold War” environment. Of course the truth is that a new “Cold War” has now erupted, and Russia and China can both see the writing on the wall and they are both developing impressive new weapons systems. Unfortunately, our military planners seem to think that war with Russia and/or China is not very likely, and as a result our strategic forces have aged nearly to the point of obsolescence. In fact, a 60 Minutes investigation discovered that our nuclear forces were still using technology from the 1960s and 1970s, including rotary phones and enormous 8-inch floppy disks. Most Americans assume that we would easily win a military conflict with Russia and/or China due to our “vast superiority”, but in this article you will see that is not necessarily the case.

Denmark as a Model for American Socialists?

by Lars Hedegaard

[…]

Danes, in contrast to American socialists gaining ground in the Democratic Party, are increasingly aware that the welfare state cannot be sustained in conditions of open immigration. A political party agitating for “no borders” could never win a Danish election. Danes do not suffer from historical guilt: they have not attacked any other country for more than two centuries and have never committed a genocide. …

It is uncomplicated for enterprises to fire workers, which gives them great flexibility to adapt to shifting market conditions. To alleviate the pain, the state has in place a number of arrangements such as generous unemployment benefits and programs to retrain and upgrade redundant workers.

Danish companies must make ends meet or perish. They generally will not get handouts from the government.

Denmark is more free-market oriented than the US. According to the Heritage Foundation’s 2018 Index of Economic Freedom, Denmark is number 12, ahead of the United States (number 18). Venezuela is at the bottom, one place ahead of number 180, North Korea. …

Comparing Denmark to the US, Madsen notes that the latter has a problem with fiscal sustainability that may necessitate tax increases. Denmark enjoys what he labels fiscal “oversustainability” (“overholdbarhed”).

At a time when socialism appears to be popular among certain sections of the American population, its proponents would do well not to cite Denmark as a model. The Danish fusion of free-market capitalism and a comprehensive welfare state has worked because Denmark is a small country with a very homogeneous population. This economic and social model rests on more than 150 years of political, social and economic compromises between peasants and landowners, business-owners and workers, and right— and left-leaning political parties. This has led to a measure of social and political stability that would be hard to emulate in much larger and more diverse counties such as the United States.

EU Seeks Hosts for Migrants Amid New Italy, Malta Standoff

MILAN (AP) — The European Union is trying to find countries willing to take 177 people rescued at sea after Italy sought its help to deal with yet another migrant standoff with Malta.

The Italian coast guard ship Diciotti has been sitting off Italy’s Lampedusa island since rescuing the migrants last week. Rome asked Malta to take them in but Malta — the EU’s smallest member country — refused, saying the migrant boat wasn’t in distress and that the migrants declined Maltese assistance, preferring to continue toward Italy.

Some 46 per cent of respondents, however, said they were in favour of a European re-distribution scheme to relieve pressure on frontline states like Italy and Greece, and for France to take in its “fair share” of migrants.

5 thoughts on “Gates of Vienna News Feed 8/20/2018

  1. A young Czech woman was “enriched” by an immigrant in a Dresden park on Sunday morning. People here often comment the case couldn’t have been sweeped under the rug because she was a tourist, as opposed to rape cases of German girls and women.

As for the 50th aniversary of “brotherly help” to end the Prague Spring, it’s biggest legacy is that it broke our nation’s spine for good. After WWII and most importantly during the 50’s people were silent because speaking up could mean you or your family end in prisor or worse. But after 1968 people kept silent because they lost all hope for a better life. The aftermath still shows today: people are ruthless, they have little respect for anyone, are often lazy, blame the state for their [excremental] lives. The people that made the socialist economics work for the majority of those 40 years were people raised in democracy during the First Republic between 1918 and 1938. Those who were born in the 50’s and later don’t have good work habits, because they knew they couldn’t loose their job unless they did something against the state. They will tell you the factories were running at a high speed, but in reality they were producing things that ended up rotting away in warehouses, because no Eastern Block country had the money to buy from us in such masses and we weren’t allowed to sell to the West (and those products would’ve sold, Czechia has always had a good name especially in industrial produce). Do you know how the common worker’s day in a factory looked like? He or she would come in, eat breakfast, read the newspaper, chat with the colleagues, then maybe do some work, have lunch, have coffee, chat again, maybe do some more work and go home. It sure doesn’t surprise me those people felt relaxed and happy then and felt overwhelmed after the revolution when their employer suddenly demanded they worked their 8 hours. Of course there were still some hardworking people and most people adjusted after the revolution, but you get the idea.
Another good point is that prior to ’68 all kinds of people got along. Your neighbour could’ve been a communist, you could be opposition and you would still get along. This was lost after the invasion. And many communists opposed the invasion too, many commited suicide because they couldn’t deal with the betrayal. It was truly a tragedy on all fronts.
The worst thing is, we didn’t get closure, because prezident Havel was too easy on the comrades and nobody was sentenced for it. Russia even cooperated and let our officers confirm the signitures on the invitation letter (which the Soviets used as an excuse for the invasion) were genuine, but still nobody was put in jail and now they’re all dead and out nation can’t get a closure for that event.
All these things are the reason why we’re struggling, even though we’re doing pretty great, all things considered. The trust between neighbours is comming back very slowly, people are still afraid to stand behind the opinions they claimed in private, people don’t understand the concept of democracy and think placing their vote once every few years is all it takes to have a perfect state, and so on.
However, to end this on a positive note, things have improved greatly over the past decade. Young people have generally a much better understanding of democratic processes and aren’t afraid to speak up, while simultaneously most of them aren’t swayed by the liberal propaganda (at least from what I can tell from being in contact with many many teenagers and young adults due to my line of work). Our economy is doing amazing at the moment. Unemployment is on the level of “the only people not working are those who don’t want to work”. Corruption actually gets punished (even if there’s still some reserve). We elect our leader ourselves, not through politians. Our standards of living are continuously improving. And so much more. There’s still a long road to go, but we’re getting there. Prezident Masaryk was right when he said “a healthy democracy needs at least fifty years to come to fruition.” We never had that luxury. Our democratic legacy was stomped into dust after only twenty years in 1938 and then again in 1948 and 1968. We are now just behind the mid-point and things are looking great. If given the chance (that is, if the war in Europe can still somehow be averted), after a generation exchange, I think we will well get on the level of Switzerland or Norway. There’s a good reason Bolsheviks and Nazis were both afraid of Czech soldiers, we just don’t give up 🙂

  2. The NATO Treaty cites as a goal retaining the national character of each member state.

The Euro-Trash nations have failed in this and so has the USA. Eastern Europe has, in general, but not the USA at all.

Now, NATO is used primarily as an offensive weapon to wage false wars…everywhere.

    • While I’m not a huge supporter of Russia, it’s funny how they’re always portrayed as an offender by the West, despite them barely having any military stations in the world and their army being barely present in any ongoing conflict around the world, as opposed to NATO forces led by the US.
(At least I’m not aware of much going on from their side and I’m sure our media would go mad about it.)
