Gates of Vienna News Feed 7/8/2018

Early this morning an explosion in the second-floor apartment of a three-decker in East Boston did extensive damage to the premises and sent a man to the hospital with second-degree burns. Police found weapons in the apartment, and called in the FBI. Later the authorities said that the injured man had been mixing chemicals, and they exploded. The incident is unrelated to terrorism, but the man may be facing weapons charges when he recovers from his injuries.

A Strange New Twist in the Satoshi Nakamoto Saga

Authored by Alex Kimani via SafeHaven.com

The truth can sometimes be stranger than fiction. At least that’s the case when it comes to unraveling the identity of bitcoin’s fabled founder, Satoshi Nakamoto.

Bitcoin’s creator used that name when he released bitcoin’s code to the public, though it’s widely considered a pseudonym.

But soon after, he vanished without a trace never to be heard from again.

In the Czech Republic the Lowest Unemployment Rate in the EU

Strong decrease of unemployed in Croatia

(ANSA) — BELGRADE, 02 LUG — In May 2018, the Czech Republic registered the lowest unemployment rate in the European Union, Eurostat informed today.

The unemployment rate in the Czech Republic was 2.3% in May, followed by Germany (3.4%), Hungary (3.7%) and Poland (3.8%). A low share of unemployed was recorded also in Romania (4.6%), Bulgaria and Estonia (5%), and Slovenia (5.6%), all below the average unemployment rate in the EU, at 7% in May. Eurostat noted that, compared to a year ago, one of the strongest decreases in the unemployment rate were registered in Croatia, from 11,3% to 8,9%.

Salaries: US Wage Growth in June Was 2018’s Strongest So Far

edian base pay for workers in the United States climbed by 1.6 percent in June to $52,052, according to the latest edition of Glassdoor’s Local Pay Report. That was the strongest growth in the wage statistic so far in 2018.

“With unemployment hovering around historic lows, employers’ need to fill roles climbs,” said Glassdoor Chief Economist Andrew Chamberlain in a press release. “What results is that more workers, especially in high demand industries like healthcare, finance, and e-commerce, are in the driver’s seat to negotiate for better pay in order to fill these roles.”

The Glassdoor data showed that traditional blue-collar jobs — such as truck driver, warehouse associate, and materials handler — posted large wage gains.

Caroline Glick: Why the Democrats Are Turning Against Israel

Since President Donald Trump entered the White House, hardly a day has gone by without Israel receiving a warning from a Democratic politician or a liberal American Jewish leader that it had better curb its enthusiasm and be reticent in its support for Trump and his policies.

The partisan split is clear. A Pew survey of American support for Israel in January noted a great and growing gap in partisan support for the Jewish state. 79 percent of Republicans support Israel against the Palestinians. Only 27 percent of Democrats do.

The latest warning came this week. Ambassador Dennis Ross, the former U.S. mediator for the peace talks between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), told the Jerusalem Post that Israel needs to watch out.

“Given the strong opposition by Democrats to Trump,” Ross warned, “Israel risks getting caught up in that conflict,” he told the Post.

“There will be a post-Trump U.S. … Israel risks a backlash because the Trump administration has caused such deep alienation among Democrats, so it’s very important that there is outreach by Israel to Democrats.”

Ross also had advice for what Israelis should talk about when they talk to Americans. Israelis, he said, should avoid talking about shared values and visions of the world. Instead, they should focus their discussions with Americans on both sides of the aisle on security issues and regional Middle East topics.

Ross’s warning that Israelis should avoid speaking to Americans about shared values points to the core of Israel’s problem with Democrats — and, increasingly, with the American Jewish community which splits two-to-one in support for Democrats over Republicans…

East Boston Explosion Leaves 1 in Critical Condition, Police Say

An explosion at a triple-decker home in East Boston early Sunday morning left a man with second-degree burns in critical condition, police said.

The man is considered a person of interest in the incident and is in critical, but stable condition, according to Boston police.

Commissioner William Evans said police found weapons inside the second floor of the 88 Webster St. home, where they responded at about 12:40 a.m. The blast created a hole in the floor and the walls have been blown out.

“We’re lucky no one else got injured here,” Evans said. “We’re not sure of the cause at this time and that’s why they’re up there sifting through the material.”

The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives are assisting with the investigation.

Explosion in East Boston Caused by Man Playing With Chemicals

28-year-old man likely facing weapon charges

BOSTON — Police and federal agents are investigating after an explosion started a small fire in an East Boston building overnight.

The explosion at 88 Webster Street in East Boston occurred around 12:30 a.m. Sunday. It was so powerful that it blew out the windows of a second-floor apartment where police say a 28-year-old man was mixing chemicals, when the concoction blew up.

Police said the fire was put out quickly, but the man was taken from the home with second-degree burn injuries.

That person is expected to survive, authorities said, and is currently at Massachusetts General Hospital under police surveillance. Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said the man is not in police custody, but said weapons charges are likely.

“We don’t believe there’s anything to do with terrorism here,” Evans said. “It’s just someone who has some weapons in there and is playing around with chemicals and, you know, some powder, and it looks like that blew up on him.”

A neighbor says she saw two dogs rescued from inside.

Interim or Ad Infinitum? Irish Army’s 40-Year Role in Lebanon

Martin Malone, author and former soldier, reflects on Ireland’s Unifil peacekeeping role

Unifil is a strange acronym; it reads as United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon. Interim derived from the Latin means “Meanwhile; something that is intended to be used until something else is permanently done or established”. A permanent solution, peace in the Middle East, appears a long way off. Ad Infinitum Force might be a truer description of the UN’s role in Lebanon, given its 40-year interim status. This isn’t a denigration of United Nations policy, but rather a reflection on the volatile and headstrong mindsets of the neighbour countries, the Palestinian question, and the ramifications of western interference in Iraq which ignited the current travails throughout the Levant.

Unifil was born after the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanon, with a mandate to help a Lebanese government bring stability to the area. In Ireland’s case, some 32,000 individual tours of duty were completed, and my own contribution tallies five…

Israeli Gas Pipeline to Jordan to Start Pumping by 2020

Jewish state replaces Egypt as a gas supplier

(ANSAmed) — AMMAN, JULY 5 — A multi-billion dollar gas pipeline to transfer Israeli gas to Jordan is well underway and expected to be running within less than two years, officials said today.

The government has begun construction of the a 65-kilometre pipeline that stretches from the Kingdom’s borders with Israel in the north to Mafraq on the border, near the Syrian border.

Upon completion, Jordan would import $10 billion worth gas, or 250-300 million cubic feet, according to officials from the national electric power company. Abdel Fattah Daradka, director general of the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) said the pipeline will be completed by the end of 2019 while gas is expected to start arriving by 2020.

Jordan is expected to receive 3 billion cubic metres of gas per year, Daradka was quoted by the Jordan Times as saying.

Jordan had traditionally received gas to fuel its power stations from Egypt, but mysterious series of attacks lead to continued disruption to gas pumping to the kingdom. Source of attacks remain unknown, but they lead Jordan to make the multi-billion dollar deal with Israel, which competes with Egypt to become a major player in gas supply in the region.

The kingdom used to receive Egyptian gas under discount price due to strong political relations with Cairo, but the kingdom is expected to pay for the Israeli gas in accordance with the international price.

  1. “An Absolute Bombshell”: Brexit Ministers Davis, Baker & Braverman Quit in Blow to Theresa May

Not Braverman; Davis and Baker yes, the Braverman resignation was incorrectly reported.

She was last seen being escorted everywhere by one of May’s enforcers and kept away from the Press.

If she was hoping to slip into the shoes of Davis she has miscalculated – the new Brexit Secretary is one Dominic Raab.

Why on earth he would want to pick up that poisoned chalice is anybody’s guess because any acute observer and the whole of the political rabble in Cesspit-on-Thames know that the real ‘Secretary’ is the civil service Mandarin and May toady Oliver Robbins.

Through him May has been secretly consulting and plotting with the EU thugocracy behind the backs of Cabinet and Parliament.

    • I actually (almost) feel sorry for our PM. I voted to leave the EU, mainly over sovereignty and control of our borders, but like many “brexiteers”, would have opted to stay if we could have gone back to the original “Common Market”, without the bureacracy and diktats from unelected officials.

Sadly this option isn’t available, and if we don’t enter into some form of free trade agreement, somewhat like the Swiss, Norwegians or Icelanders, our economy will suffer, as so many goods are manufactured in one EU country from parts made in others; parts which are currently shipped around without tariffs. Theresa May must be aware of this, and really is caught between the proverbial rock and hard place.

I do have a lot of time for David Davies, who’s just resigned as Minister for “Brexit”; although from the right of the Conservatives, he was good friends with the late left wing Labour politician Tony Benn; presumably they saw something likeable in one another, politics notwithstanding- maybe an example for us all, and our leaders?

      • If the EU really wants to punish the UK, 13% of the current EU population, as well as the USA, and it has no other first world population to turn to to sell its high end products, it will only hurt itself.

May is just a toady of Cameron’s, left behind to continue his policy. If a country wants to leave something and there is no threat of military invasion then it simply leaves. The EU would damage itself if it tried to pursue an acrimonious divorce. It’s not like it doesn’t have a lot of internal problems and attacking a wealthy foreign trading partner is no way to conduct business, the one thing that the EU seems to care about over all.

    • Boris Johnson’s devastating critique: They’re turning the UK into a genuine colony of the EU which would get to continue to dictate laws. But he doesn’t seem to notice that it already is a colony, of an even harsher master and in a stark reversal of historical powers. Islam dictates UK laws already, even gets to render invalid existing law without formal change. Man, people are so blind.
      https://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/07/09/boris-speaks-brexit-is-dying-white-flags-are-fluttering-may-deal-will-make-britain-an-eu-colony/

  2. Macron – “Be like me, its great fun and I’ll build you a house if you don’t have sex”

which together make me feel like a “bit of a tool” in someone else’s agenda.

Before it all used to be called manners, but I guess they must have been biased somewhere also, a sort of “non dit” that insinuates all the same. Oh well, you can always tell people where to go still… I think… maybe ?

  4. The death of Britain comes with Sajid Javid , the first Muslim Prime Minister.

Will Donald Trump still visit the UK following this terrible development?

    • Sorry, but I can’t resist an aircraft reference; saw a couple of V-22 Ospreys (hybrid helicopter/aircraft, used by all the US armed forces) overhead here today (just south of central London); probably rehearsing security measures for Trump’s visit.

Oh, and Javid appears to be a secularised Muslim (they do exist), but we’ll have to wait and see how he deals with issues such as this: https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/12662/britain-parliament-grooming-gangs

      • If he is ‘secularised’ then why did he take his oath of office on the Koran rather than than make a solemn declaration as is the other option to either the Koran or the Bible?

He is an ambitious, clever, Taqiyya artist who is as much dedicated to the Islamisation of the West as that cretinous, poison dwarf Khan and he is several orders of magnitude smarter than that inbred ‘Mayor’ of Londonistan.

      • Sorry, but I believe Secularised Muslim is a fictitious creature. A Muslim cannot be secularised since Islam is not a religion in first place, just a criminal fraternity for conquest of the world. They pay taxes to headquarters (mosques), contribute to demographical changes and vote for Muslim-friendly animals. They benefit from multikulti cult, gain land, undeserved jobs and undeserved wealth redistribution. They also get access to free education in Europe. No doubt they all support this multikulti situation and serve the fraternity, directly or indirectly. They know it or not but they all do.

        • Good points, SIII and Rec.

Saw a couple of Apache attack helicopters overhead a little while ago- Trump should visit more often!
