Gates of Vienna News Feed 5/26/2018

The proposed Italian coalition government under prime minister-designate Giuseppe Conte has gained more than an absolute majority of support in the Senate, and an even larger margin in the lower house. Meanwhile, the Lega and the 5-Star Movement have chosen Paolo Savona as economy minister. Mr. Savona is known to be a staunch Euro-skeptic and is very anti-German.

In other news, almost 1,500 migrants were rescued in the Mediterranean over the course of just two days by the Italian coast guard and various migrant-rescue NGOs.

Erdogan Urges Turks to Stick With Collapsing Lira, Warns Financial Speculators “Will Pay a Heavy Price”

Since Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s election to Prime Minister of Turkey in 2002 (and even more so since his ‘election’ to President for life in 2014), the Turkish Lira has been on a one-way street to hyperinflation.

The ailing currency has lost over 20% of its value against the U.S. dollar this year as The FT points out that a volatile mix of electoral populism and a rising dollar have pushed the country to the brink of a currency crisis. At the helm is a leader obsessed with growth, who has long dismissed higher rates as a way to make “the rich richer and the poor poorer” and often feuded with the country’s central bank.

“The Democrat Party is Dead” — Beware of Desperate False Flags, Warns Dave Hodges

Of all the mistakes the Democratic party has made in the past ten years, endlessly accusing Donald Trump of colluding with the Russians during the 2016 presidential election has easily been one of their worst. Now, with the 2018 midterms less than six months away, the democrats have absolutely nothing to run on, other than opposing the president of the United States. They have no record. They have no real accomplishments. And as a result, they are getting desperate.

Dave Hodges of The Common Sense Show recently made this same argument, and explained that the democrat party is particularly dangerous when it feels as though its being backed against a wall. “A broke Democratic party is a desperate Democratic party that will do almost anything and everything to win an election,” Hodges writes.

He later added, “The Democratic party cannot win back the control of the government. Therefore, their Deep State partners cannot bring down the American government. CALEXIT is failing. The Democrats are broke. Therefore, their only solution is to evoke massive false flag events in this country and pray that the United Nations will militarily assert itself through the Kigali Principles.”

‘A Democratic Watergate is Unfolding Before Our Eyes’

For months now, Democrats and their media allies have been saying that Trump colluded with Russia and has threatened American democracy. But it’s starting to look like the opposite is true. It looks like the Democrats and the Obama administration are the guilty ones.

Adriana Cohen has a column on the subject that is going viral.

She writes at the Boston Herald:

Democrats’ Russia truth coming out

A Democratic Watergate is unfolding before our eyes.

It’s no wonder Obama’s former CIA chief John Brennan is tweeting like a madman, attacking President Trump, House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Brennan’s running scared because it’s starting to look like he may have been a co-conspirator in the biggest political scandal since, well, Watergate.

Interview With Joschka Fischer ‘The U.S. President is Destroying the American World Order’

In an interview with DER SPIEGEL, former German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer talks about the danger of war against Iran, the deterioration of trans-Atlantic relations under U.S. President Donald Trump and the serious need for Germany to invest massively in the European Union’s future.

Interview Conducted By Mathieu von Rohr and Christoph Schult

DER SPIEGEL: Mr. Fischer, you were — together with your French and British colleagues — among the first to embark on negotiations with Iran on its nuclear program in 2003. The 2015 agreement was to some extent your legacy. How did Donald Trump’s withdrawal from the Iran deal affect you?

Fischer: I don’t take this personally, but I am very concerned about the disastrous consequences of Trump’s decision. They will be much more dramatic than portrayed in most of the comments so far. The aim of the agreement was to prevent a second disaster after the Iraq War, namely a large-scale land war in Iran. After the Iraq War, the Iranians tried in vain to divide Europe and the United States. Donald Trump has now managed to do just that.

DER SPIEGEL: Are you afraid that there will now be a war against Iran?…

A “Different” Kind of Antisemitism?

Canadian campuses are home to the organizations Students for Justice in Palestine and the Muslim Students Association which actively campaign against Israel in such events as “Israel Apartheid Week,” and which sponsor boycotts of Israel and a wide array of anti-Israel speakers. Although these anti-Israel advocates, many of them Middle Eastern and Muslim in origin, claim not to be antisemitic even while denying Jews a 3,000 year history in their historical homeland, their animosity toward Jews repeatedly breaks out. For example, a Facebook post celebrating an anti-Israel event at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology asserted that “Jews are rodents.” Other media posts advised Jewish students to “Go back to Palestine.” At Toronto’s Ryerson University, Holocaust education was opposed with a staged walkout.

At McMaster University, numerous incidents have been documented of students writing antisemitic social media posts. Nadera Masad, a member of Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights, tweeted “hitler should have took you all.”

[Rawan] Qaddoura — a political science and economics major who unsuccessfully ran for the SPHR presidency in 2016 — tweeted in September 2012, “i just don’t like jews lol #sorrynotsorry”

On August 2013, she wrote, “‘@judeZAdude: The whole world is controlled by Zionist Jews and until you understand that, life will never make sense.’“

Qaddoura also repeatedly praised Hitler, tweeting in January 2012, “I honestly wish I was born at the time of the second world war just to see the genius, Hitler, at work.”

She doubled down on these sentiments in June 2013, writing, “everytime I read about Hitler, I fall in love all over again.”

On July 2015, [McMaster student Esra] Bengizi tweeted a photo of Hitler — captioned with heart emojis — alongside the fake quote, “The only Religion I respect is Islam. The only prophet I admire is the Prophet Muhammad.”

A year earlier, she wrote, “‘@KMKurd: Where is hitler when u need one?’ I literally ask this every day.” On the same Twitter thread, she added, “hitler did more than just kill. He was also a great leader & role model to many…”

Bengizi’s admiration of Hitler sometimes accompanied tweets that were explicitly antagonistic towards Jews. ‘I’m actually going to the rule the world and get rid of anyone who doesn’t have basic common sense or if youre yahoodi [Jewish]’ #QueenE, she tweeted on May 2014. Bengizi praised Hitler as ‘so intelligent’ later on the same thread.

Do not worry about Jew-hatred at McMaster, however. The McMaster administration is on the case. Its “Equity and Inclusion” committee is promoting an anti-Islamophobia campaign, seeking out instances of possible hostility toward Muslims, and publicizing them widely.

60 French Pols Appeal to Macron on TAV

‘Amid political uncertainty in Italy’

(ANSA) — Paris, May 23 — More than 60 French politicians including MPs, Senators and regional governors on Wednesday appealed to French President Emmanuel Macron to “guarantee” the Turin-Lyon high-speed rail (TAV) line which the future Italian government has vowed to revise or stop. The appeal called the project “a major work site for the future” and called for it to be saved “in the face of political uncertainties in Italy”. The appeal, contained in a missive sent to the presidential Elysée palace, was coordinated by the Comité pour la Transalpine Lyon-Turin, chaired by Jacques Gounon.

“The Turin-Lyon link,” the 63 signatories said, “contains at the same time a vision of Europe, an international economic ambition for France, a powerful aspiration for ecological transition and a strategy of development of the territory for the whole south of the continent.” They said “we keenly hope that (Macron) will be a guarantor of the dynamic of this great future worksite, in a context of political uncertainties in Italy”.

Eurosceptic in Italy’s Government Standoff is ‘Radically Anti-German’

The standoff between Italy’s president and the populist coalition hoping to form a government centres on their pick for economy minister, the staunch eurosceptic Paolo Savona, who has been described by a former finance minister as “radically anti-German”.

A fierce critic of the Maastricht Treaty and the euro, 81-year-old Savona has a career in finance and economics that stretches back to the 1960s, and was Minister of Trade and Industry during fellow banker Carlo Ciampi’s short-lived technical government in the early 1990s.

In the European Appeasement Olympics, Who Wins?

Now Robinson has been arrested again. On Friday, while livestreaming on Facebook from outside a court in Leeds, where yet another trial of Muslim child rapists was underway, he was taken into custody by a phalanx of police officers. The charge? “Breaching the peace.” In fact, anyone who watches the video of his arrest can see quite clearly that he was only doing what any reporter for the BBC would have done — standing in front of a courtroom, talking into a microphone, and being filmed by a camera. The difference is that the BBC and other mainstream media are determined to give as little coverage as possible to the mass Muslim rape of infidel girls. As for the police, they knew about these “grooming gangs” for many years (as did armies of social workers) but did nothing for fear of being labeled racist or sparking Islamic uprisings. These same cops arrested Tommy Robinson on Friday not because he did anything wrong, but because he was drawing attention to Muslim crimes that they would rather see ignored — and drawing attention, too, by extension, to their own genuinely criminal failure to defend innocent children from what was essentially jihadist torture.

It gets worse. Within hours, according to some sources, Robinson was tried and sentenced to thirteen months in prison. To send him to a British prison, where a very high percentage of inmates are likely to be Muslim, is to condemn him to a life of brutal harassment and, very possibly, a violent death. Even in Islam-appeasing Britain, this seems inconceivable. It sounds like Soviet or Nazi “justice,” not like British jurisprudence.

Italy: MPS Measures ‘To Put it Back on Feet’ — Vestager

Preventive recapitalisation to get out of it once waters calm

(ANSA) — Brusseles, May 24 — The measures taken by Italy and approved by the EU to right Monte dei Paschi di Siena (MPS) were aimed at getting it back on its own two feet, European Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager said Thursday in reply to a question about the possible nationalisation of Italy’s third-biggest and the world’s oldest bank. The preventive recapitalisation of MPS was based on “the idea of it being a question of a temporary thing,” enabling one to “restructure and make sustainable” the bank, she said.

Therefore, the operation aimed to “get out of it once the situation returned to calm waters” with a bank that “once again was walking on its own legs”.

Roman Reality Check Italian Trumpism is No Less Dangerous Than the Original

Members of the European Union need to send a clear message to the new Italian government: We will not allow you to destroy the eurozone.

A DER SPIEGEL Editorial by Michael Sauga

They view themselves as the executors of the true will of the people. They put their nation first, without any regard for international treaties. But, no, it’s not Donald Trump and his supporters in the United States we’re talking about here. It’s Italy’s new government, which is currently being formed and whose political intent could best be summarized as such: Italy first, reflection second.

For the European Union, though, the Italian version of Trumpism is no less dangerous than the original. The political platforms of the new populist coalition government in Rome are comprised primarily of huge tax cuts while at the same time increasing pensions and social welfare services — which would push an already highly indebted nation even further into debt. It’s an agenda that brings along with it the constant threat of suicide attack on Europe: Either you make concessions, or we’ll blow up our country and the eurozone along with it…

Caroline Glick: Heeding Democratic Warnings

Every day Israel is subjected to a torrent of warnings from Democrats.

“You will pay a price for your support of President Donald Trump,” we are told.

“He won’t be president forever, and when he’s gone, watch out!”

The basic notion, repeated over and over again is clear enough. If Israel doesn’t want to be punished by the next Democratic White House — which we are warned will make us long for Barack Obama — then we’d better stop talking about the fact that Trump is the best ally and friend Israel has ever had in the White House.

These warnings are not baseless. The data are unmistakable. Republicans are more supportive of Israel than they ever have been. Democrats are abandoning Israel in droves. In January, Pew reported that liberal Democrats side with the Palestinians over Israel by a margin of nearly two to one. Conservative Republicans support Israel over the Palestinians by a margin of more than 16 to 1.

The yawning gap in support plays out in multiple ways. This week, 70 House Democrats sent a letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanding that Israel not destroy illegal Palestinian construction in the south Hebron hills.

Last week, no serving Democratic lawmakers attended the opening of the US Embassy in Jerusalem.

Democrats also boycotted the Israeli Embassy in Washington’s party celebrating the move.

How is Israel supposed to deal with this wide and growing gap in partisan support? Before taking a stab at the answer, we first must understand what is causing the Democrats to turn against the Jewish state…

Caroline Glick: Endgame for U.S.-Turkey Relations

Last Monday, NATO ally Turkey withdrew its ambassador from Washington. The severe step is meant to punish the U.S. for opening an embassy in Jerusalem on Monday.

Also last Monday, Turkey expelled Israel’s ambassador to Turkey. It had already withdrawn its ambassador from Tel Aviv.

In a speech at Chatham House that day, Turkish President Reçep Tayyip Erdogan called Israel a “terror state,” and accused Israel of carrying out a “genocide.”

Indicating his view that the U.S. is also responsible for the so-called “genocide,” Erdogan said, “I condemn this humanitarian drama, this genocide, from whichever side it comes, Israel or America.”

Turning his attention to Washington, Erdogan accused the U.S. of violating international law by recognizing Israel’s capital and moving its embassy to Jerusalem. He insisted that following the embassy move, the U.S. can no longer mediate the Palestinian conflict with Israel.

As Erdogan was condemning Israel and the U.S. in London, protesters in Ankara were burning Israeli and American flags at a mass rally. One speaker at the rally referred to the American people as “dogs.” The rally was organized by Turkey’s Islamist IHH group. IHH, which is aligned with Hamas and al Qaeda, has close relations with the Erdogan regime.

Also last Monday, Turkey called an emergency meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) in Istanbul. Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said that immediately after the conference, a mass protest against Israel would be held at Istanbul’s central thoroughfare.

It would be easy to dismiss Erdogan’s latest moves as simply another expression of his hatred for Israel and Jews…

Putin, Macron Bond Over Shared Unease at Trump’s Actions

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on Friday found a common cause in their shared unease at U.S. President Donald Trump’s actions on Iran, climate change and international trade.

France is at odds with the Kremlin over its annexation of Crimea from Ukraine four years ago, and allegations that Moscow meddled in a French presidential election in support of one of Macron’s opponents.

But there were only fleeting signs of those differences when Macron met Putin at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum, an annual showcase for investment in Russia that the Russian leader hosts in his home town.

Instead, the two leaders focused on concerns about the future of a multinational deal on Iran’s nuclear deal programme, now in jeopardy after Trump pulled the United States out of it…

Myanmar Rohingya Militants Massacred Hindus, Says Amnesty

Rohingya Jihadi Militants ‘carried out massacre of Hindus in Myanmar’, says Amnesty International.

BBC | Asia News Desk | May 22, 2018:: Rohingya Muslim militants in Myanmar killed dozens of Hindu civilians during attacks last August, according to an investigation by Amnesty International.

The group called Arsa killed up to 99 Hindu civilians in one, or possibly two massacres, said the rights group. Arsa had denied involvement.

The killings came in the first days of an uprising against Burmese forces, who are also accused of atrocities.

Since August nearly 700,000 Rohingyas and others have fled the violence.

The conflict has also displaced members of the majority Buddhist population in Myanmar (also called Burma) as well as members of the Hindu minority.

Amnesty says interviews it conducted with refugees in Bangladesh and in Rakhine state confirmed that mass killings carried out by the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa) took place in a cluster of villages in northern Maungdaw Township at the time of its attacks on police posts in late August.

The findings also show Arsa was responsible for violence against civilians, on a smaller scale, in other areas.

  1. In an interview with DER SPIEGEL, former German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer talks about… …the serious need for Germany to invest massively in the European Union’s future.

Seriously, in Czechoslovakia we used to have this official propaganda motto saying: “Forever with the Soviet Union!”

And today, every day, I can read in the newspapers how the EU is the one and only option for our future, because if it wasn’t for the EU, France, Germany, Britain and Poland will attack us, and then we get destroyed by China and India, and the USA will enslave us, and after all that we will die of hunger and thirst, unemployed, with no roof over our head, killing and destroying one another, because only the EU can guarantee the rule of law in the Czech Republic… We have to stay forever in the EU!!!

Can doubling down be considered a sign of the end?

    • WWe can only hope the Leftists are losing power. Yet, Tommy Robinson is summarily imprisoned for nothing, Ireland’s ancient civilization just collapsed, Israel is reviled by the likes of Diane Feinstein and the US protects ISIS inside Syria. The anticipated Summer riots by Antifa will alarm the world to the Left’s message of Death.

    • ” because only the EU can guarantee the rule of law in the Czech Republic ”
Well , the only thing you will be guaranteed is unrest and widespread lawlessness , if you believe or trust anything coming out of Bruxelles . The EU is not about guaranteeing and upholding peace ; it may have been sold as such , but nothing could be farther from truth . You guys , of all , would recognize a totalitarian monster on its rise . Thanks goodness for the resistance from you and your neighbours ; not much fight left in much of the rest of Europe . Your position can but inspire and hopefully act as a much overdue wake-up call .

  2. “In January, Pew reported that liberal Democrats side with the Palestinians over Israel by a margin of nearly two to one. Conservative Republicans support Israel over the Palestinians by a margin of more than 16 to 1.”

Is it possible that God is not finished with the Jews and just as they demanded Barrabas over Jesus the World will choose Palestinians over Jews?

“Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him!”

  3. Meanwhile, Sen. Liz Warren, a/k/a Pocahontas, is gathering a few American Indians to say if she “thinks” she’s an Indian then she is one? How sad for these subjugated peoples to be run over by her forked tongue. They’ve sold their own DNA, cheap.

  4. Joschka Fischer is an overrated product of the “revolutionary” student movement of 1968-9. He should be the most average guy in the street. What else do you expect from him?
