Jobs Report for March Beats Forecasters, Again

Private-sector employment jumped by 241,000 jobs in March, beating February’s numbers and forecasters once again. This is the fifth straight month that the U.S. economy has added 200,000 jobs or more, and is far ahead of the paltry jobs growth recorded last September — just 80,000 new jobs that month. Forecasters were expecting just 200,000 new jobs as they anticipated that demand by employers would exceed available supply.

YouTube Shooter Identified as Nasim Aghdam

As it turns out, Tuesday’s shooting at YouTube headquarters (which has so far resulted in zero deaths other than that of the shooter, who committed suicide) had nothing to do with domestic violence and everything to do with blowback to YouTube’s demonetization efforts — as many initially feared.

The shooter was identified as Nasim Aghdam who slammed YouTube for purportedly censoring her after she claimed that they demonetized her channels, including an exercise one devoted to exercise videos and another devoted to veganism. Aghdam channeled her anger toward YouTube into a paranoid manifesto published online. She wrote in her purported manifesto: “Be aware! Dictatorship exists in all countries but with different tactics! They only care for personal and short-term profits and do anything to reach their goals even by fooling simple-minded people, hiding the truth, manipulating science and everything, putting public mental and physical health at risk, abusing non-human animals, polluting the environment, destroying family values, promoting materialism and sexual degeneration in the name of freedom and turning people into programmed robots!”

Italian Journalist Fired for Saying ‘Newspapers Care Nothing for the Truth’

One of Italy’s largest mainstream newspapers has sacked a veteran journalist for daring to write that most of what is found in the papers today is fake news, because they “care nothing for the truth.”

In the most forceful paragraph of the essay in La Repubblica that cost him his job of 18 years, Piergiorgio Odifreddi wrote on Monday that “the majority of the news that goes to print or that is read online is obviously fake news: not only stories on religion and politics, which are sectors governed by Nietzsche’s saying ‘there are no facts, just interpretations,’ but also articles on science, where practically the only stories that attract attention are hoaxes.”

Antarctic Temperature Data Challenges Warming Claims

Antarctica, considered by many climate alarmists to be a harbinger of future climate conditions for the rest of the globe, apparently is not warming as fast as the doomsayers thought. In fact, it may not be warming at all, with data suggesting that the continent was much warmer than it is now a century ago.

The Japanese Meteorological Agency’s research outpost, Showa Station in Antarctica’s Queen Maud Land, reports a slight cooling trend, even as atmospheric CO2 levels rose sharply from 1985 until 2017, according to Japanese climate blogger Kirye. But lest you think this is some sort of Japanese climate denial scheme, there are other examples.

Venezuela’s Inflation Rate at 7849% Based on More Reliable AirTM’s Black-Market Exchange-Rate Data

Authored by Steve H. Hanke of the Johns Hopkins University. Follow him on Twitter @Steve_Hanke.

The accuracy of inflation estimates using Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) depends on the accuracy of exchange rate data. Until further notice, I will use AirTM’s black-market exchange rate to calculate inflation for Venezuela. The charts below are based on AirTM’s data.

The major reason I have switched black-market, exchange-rate data sourcing is that AirTM is making a market for bolivar-US dollar exchanges. Therefore, it is a source of primary data. And, primary data are superior to secondary data sources.

  1. ‘Austria’s new coalition government has proposed a ban on headscarves for girls aged under 10 in schools.’

well, what can I say, dear austrians, maybe before you bring on these bans, better think of the skiers in the Alps, or the mascots who advertise for certain companies wearing a chicken masks.

    • Do children under 10 have classes while “skiing in the Alps” ?
Do children under 10 “advertise for certain companies wearing chicken masks” while at school ?

Did the fictional sky ghost ‘Allah’ take your brain too ?
