Gates of Vienna News Feed 10/20/2017

A man went on a rampage in shopping mall in Poland, stabbing seven people at random, killing one of them. Bystanders held the attacker immobile until police arrived. The suspect is a native Pole, and authorities say the incident had nothing to do with terrorism.

In other news, an explosive device was detonated in a parking lot in Colonial Williamsburg just across the street from the College of William and Mary. The initial call to police was for a “car fire”, but police later labeled the device an IED. The investigation is continuing.

#PaulRyan Bashes Trump Last Night at Al Smith Dinner [Video]

Paul Ryan attended the Al Smith dinner last night and proceeded to take swipes at President Trump the entire time. Not funny! He just looked like a jerk reading bad and insulting jokes from a script. Watch below: […]

This is probably NOT the best time to focus on bashing President Trump but it’s no secret that globalist Ryan isn’t a huge fan. He famously said during the 2016 campaign that he would fight against Trump’s agenda:

[Comment: An obedient globalist stooge.]

Black Homicide Victims Killed Mostly by Black Criminals Jumps 900% Since Start of Black Lives Matter…

[…]Number Of Cops Killed By Blacks Is STUNNING

While the number of blacks killed since the start of Black Lives Matter is stunning, the number of cops killed by black criminals since the start of Black Lives Matter is also shocking. Perhaps the NFL players should reconsider following Colin Kaepernick’s lead, who started kneeling to protest violence by cops against black youth, by kneeling for our national anthem. Better yet, perhaps instead of kneeling to protest, the NFL players should start kneeling to pray for the black youth of America, who are killing each other in record numbers, as they seem to have completely lost their moral compass…

Lost in the uproar over the NFL sideline protests against police brutality are newly released statistics showing that the threat to black men is skyrocketing — not from trigger-happy or racist cops, but from crime.

More than any other demographic group, black men are paying the price with their lives with a surging violent crime rate over the past two years, including a 20 percent jump in the overall homicide rate, even as the number of blacks killed by police declines.

Using homicide figures from the 2016 FBI Uniform Crime Report released Sept. 25, Manhattan Institute fellow Heather Mac Donald found that the number of black homicide victims has jumped by nearly 900 per year since the Black Lives Matter movement took root in 2014.

Caroline Glick: Trump’s Iran Speech: Opportunities and Risks

On Friday, US President Donald Trump initiated an important change in US policy toward Iran.

No, in his speech decertifying Iran’s compliance with the nuclear accord it struck with his predecessor Barack Obama, Trump didn’t announce a new strategy for preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, or stemming its hegemonic rise in the Middle East, or limiting its ability to sponsor terrorism.

Trump’s move was not operational. It was directional.

In his address Friday, Trump changed the policy dynamics that dictate US policy on Iran. For the first time since 2009, when Obama backed the murderous regime in Tehran, spurning the millions of Iranians who rose up in the Green Revolution, Trump opened up the possibility that the US may begin to base its policies toward Iran on reality.

Trump began his remarks by setting out Iran’s long rap sheet of aggression against America.

Starting with the US embassy seizure and hostage crisis, Trump described Iran’s crimes and acts of war against America in greater detail than any of his predecessors ever did.

Trump’s dossier was interlaced with condemnations of the regime’s repression of its own people.

By merging Iran’s external aggression with its internal repression, Trump signaled a readiness to drive a wedge — or expand the wedge — between the authoritarian theocrats that rule Iran and the largely secular, multiethnic and pro-Western people of Iran…

Establishment Republicans Appear to be Hoping for Democratic Election Wins

Establishment Republicans are indicating that they would rather see Democratic electoral wins rather than grassroots conservatives — justifying a long-standing fear from the party base that GOP elites are closer to Democrats than to the conservative movement.

The preference by Republicans submerged in the swamp for a “sensible” candidate to win was on display throughout the 2016 presidential campaign, when many Republicans kept Trump at arm’s length and jumped to the nearest microphone to criticize him at any opportunity.

This stopped when Trump won in November, with some critics such as Mitt Romney turning into admirers as they fished for a job, but that attitude has reared its head since Judge Roy Moore’s upset victory in the Alabama Senate primary last month over establishment-backed Sen. Luther Strange (R-AL).

[Comment: Basically admitting they are globalist stooges who would rather see a Democrat globalist stooge win their seat than a true conservative Republican.]

Former FEC Chair Demands Internet “Disinformation” Crackdown in Major Threat to Free Speech

In one of the most reckless and chilling attacks on free speech, the former chair of the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and Berkeley lecturer Ann Ravel is pushing for a federal crackdown on “disinformation” on the Internet — — a term that she conspicuously fails to concretely define.

Ravel is pushing a proposal that she laid out in a a paper co-author with Abby K. Wood, an associate professor at the University of Southern California, and Irina Dykhne, a student at USC Gould School of Law. To combat “fake news,” Ravel and her co-authors would undermine the use of the Internet as a forum for free speech.

The regulation would include the targeting of people who share stories deemed fake or disinformation by government regulators.

On Scene Investigator Banned From Mandalay Bay, Mgm, For Life After Uncovering Shocking Details Surrounding Las Vegas Attack

A comprehensive investigation with pictures from inside the Mandalay Bay after the Las Vegas shooting leads to investigator being banned by the hotel itself.

An independent investigator working on the Las Vegas shooting case was staying at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino when he was abruptly and ‘formally trespassed from all MGM Resorts International Properties’, all within 24 hours of his check-in.

The investigator, who wishes to remain anonymous, goes by “@Nick_Falco” on Twitter and has posted a series of tweets confirming his claims that he was indeed banned from the property ‘for life’ by MGM management around 7:30 p.m. Saturday evening.

1. I questioned the #LasVegas shooting narrative.

I went to Mandalay Bay to check for myself

After 24 hours I was banned for life from MGM pic.twitter.com/AEdgzRGfG8

— — Nick (@Nick_Falco) October 15, 2017

Falco told Intellihub exclusively that he received a phone call from the front desk of Mandalay Bay shortly before 7:30 p.m. in which a female operator instructed him to answer his hotel room door where four men (two armed guards, a security guy, and an FBI agent) simultaneously met him. Falco was then told to pack up his belongings before the FBI agent conducted a subsequent inspection of his room.

Soon after the independent investigator says that he was escorted over to the main entrance of the Mandalay Bay where a security guard stood him in front of a camera and verbally read him the trespass.

During Falco’s visit, he was able to prove that the leaked online version of Stephen Paddock’s room service receipt was, in fact, “authentic” after comparing it to a receipt he himself received after ordering room service Saturday morning.

The Dark Secret at the Heart of AI

No one really knows how the most advanced algorithms do what they do. That could be a problem.

Last year, a strange self-driving car was released onto the quiet roads of Monmouth County, New Jersey. The experimental vehicle, developed by researchers at the chip maker Nvidia, didn’t look different from other autonomous cars, but it was unlike anything demonstrated by Google, Tesla, or General Motors, and it showed the rising power of artificial intelligence. The car didn’t follow a single instruction provided by an engineer or programmer. Instead, it relied entirely on an algorithm that had taught itself to drive by watching a human do it.

Getting a car to drive this way was an impressive feat. But it’s also a bit unsettling, since it isn’t completely clear how the car makes its decisions. Information from the vehicle’s sensors goes straight into a huge network of artificial neurons that process the data and then deliver the commands required to operate the steering wheel, the brakes, and other systems. The result seems to match the responses you’d expect from a human driver. But what if one day it did something unexpected-crashed into a tree, or sat at a green light? As things stand now, it might be difficult to find out why. The system is so complicated that even the engineers who designed it may struggle to isolate the reason for any single action. And you can’t ask it: there is no obvious way to design such a system so that it could always explain why it did what it did.

Woman Injured in Willowbrook Condominium Explosion

A woman was injured Friday morning after an explosion in the laundry room of a Willowbrook condominium, said police chief Robert Pavelchik.

The explosion occurred about 9 a.m. in a building on the 6100 block of Knollword Drive, apparently from gasoline or a gasoline product in the sanitary sewer, Pavelchik said.

The chief did not have any information on the condition of the woman, who was taken from the scene by the Tri-State Fire Department.

Pavelchik said police had responded to the area twice Thursday evening, first between 6 and 7 p.m. and again about 11 p.m. as residents called reporting an odor of gas. Police were unable to detect anything at the time.

“Everybody was complaining about it but (we) couldn’t find the source,” Pavelchik said.

Could the Czech Election Lead to the Collapse of the EU?

THE ELECTION of Czech tycoon Andrej Babis is set to deliver a blow to the EU, but could it lead to the collapse of the European bloc?

Populist Andrej Babis has been painted as a Czech Donald Trump who is ready to join forces with Poland and Hungary in taking down the EU.

Mr Babis is set to storm to victory in the Czech election today and tomorrow amid speculation that he could bring the bloc to the brink of collapse.

But although Babis has railed against EU migration policy and the eurozone, there are signs he may not be as Eurosceptic as Brussels fears.

Europe’s New Official History Erases Christianity, Promotes Islam

One kind of official museum recently opened by the European Parliament, the “House of the European History”, costing 56 million euros. The idea was to create a historical narrative of the postwar period around the pro-EU message of unification. The building is a beautiful example of Art Deco in Brussels. As the Dutch scholar Arnold Huijgen wrote, however, the house is culturally “empty”:

“The French Revolution seems to be the birthplace of Europe; there is little room for anything that may have preceded it. The Napoleonic Code and the philosophy of Karl Marx receive a prominent place, while slavery and colonialism are highlighted as the darker sides of European culture […] But the most remarkable thing about the House is that.as far as its account is concerned, it is as if religion does not exist. In fact, it never existed and never impacted the history of the continent […] No longer is European secularism fighting the Christian religion; it simply ignores every religious aspect in life altogether”.

The Brussels bureaucracy even deleted the Catholic roots of its official flag, the twelve stars symbolizing the ideal of unity, solidarity and harmony among the peoples of Europe. It was drawn by the French Catholic designer Arséne Heitz, who apparently took his inspiration from the Christian iconography of Virgin Mary. But the European Union’s official explanation of the flag makes no mention of these Christian roots.

The European Monetary and Economic Department of the European Commission then ordered Slovakia to redesign its commemorative coins by eliminating the Christian Saints Cyril and Methonius. There is no mention of Christianity in the 75,000 words of the aborted draft of the European Constitution.

[Comment: Elites, being disciples of lucifer, hate Christianity — hence they always seek to eradicate Christian roots in Europe. Being secular is not anti-Christian enough for them.]

Islamist Tariq Ramadan Accused of Rape by Salafist Turned Activist

A rape and sexual assault complaint was filed on Friday in France against Swiss Islamist and Professor Tariq Ramadan by a former Salafist Henda Ayari.

The complaint filed with the Rouen prosecutor’s office in northwestern France, by the Salafist turned secular activist, detailed criminal acts of rape, sexual assault, violence, harassment and intimidation, according to document reviewed by AFP.

The Liberators Association, which Henda Ayari is president of, said on Facebook that she was “a victim of something very serious several years ago” but did not reveal the name of her aggressor for safety reasons.

In her book “I chose to be free”, published in November 2016, she described her aggressor as Zubair.

She said in her writings that she met him at his hotel in Paris after the Islamist thinker gave a lecture.

“I will not give precise details of the acts he has done to me. It is enough to know that he has benefited greatly from my weakness,” Ayari wrote.

She said in her book that when she rebelled against him at one point he screamed at her, insulted her, slapped her and treated her violently.

“I confirm today, that the famous Zubair is Tariq Ramadan,” Ayari published on Facebook.

According to Jonas Haddad, Ayari’s lawyer, the plaintiff did not report the assault earlier, out of fear.

“After revelations over the past few days of rape and sexual assaults claims in the media, Henda has decided to say what happened to her and take legal action,” he told AFP.

Tariq Ramadan could not be reached by AFP and did not react to the allegations on social media.

Ramadan, 55, is the grandson of the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood group in Egypt. He is a professor of contemporary Islamic studies at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.

Over for EU? Sebastian Kurz to Form Government in Austria

AUSTRIA’S conservative leader Sebastian Kurz has said that he wants to “bring real change” to the country as he forms his government.

The new leader, 31, swept to power last week and has been formally asked by President Alexander Van der Bellen to forge a team.

Mr Kurz finished first in Sunday’s election after he secured 31.5 per cent of the vote, winning by a clear margin but falling well short of the majority needed to control parliament in the affluent Alpine republic.

He said: “I would like to build a government that has the courage and determination to bring real change to Austria.

“I will now get straight to work and hold the first discussions, definitely in the coming days, and possibly even today.”

UK: Met Say Charging Shoplifters, Vandals ‘Not Practical’ As Arrests for ‘Offensive’ Comments Rise 53 Per Cent

London’s Metropolitan Police Force has said it will give up on investigating many instances of “low-level” crime such as shoplifting and vandalism, saying it is “not practical” to fight them in a time of cutbacks.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Mark Simmons claimed that giving up on investigating many offences was necessary so police constables’ efforts could be “focused on serious crime and cases where there is a realistic chance that we will be able to solve it.”

The move has raised eyebrows among members of the public, considering recent reports that the Met detained 867 out of the 3,395 people known to have been arrested for “offensive” online comments under the Malicious Communications Act in 2016 — an increase of 53 per cent for the force area since 2014.

Around half of these investigations ended up having to be dropped across the UK, which critics have taken as indicating police are being overzealous in their attempts to take on so-called trolls.

Austria: 25 Per Cent Rise in Sex Attacks, Almost Half Committed by Migrants

The Austrian government has released new crime statistics that show sex attacks have risen by more than 25 per cent since last year and that migrants make up close to half of all known suspects in sex crime cases.

The Austrian Interior Ministry released the figures this week which show that between 2015 and 2016, during the height of the migrant crisis, sex crimes went up 26.18 per cent. The reports also show a disproportionate number of suspects to be of a foreign origin and that Afghan nationals are particularly overrepresented, Kronen Zeitung reports.

The ministry said there were 5,253 sexual offences in 2016, up from the previous year’s number of 4,163.

In cases of rape, individuals of a foreign background make up a disproportionate number of rape suspects representing 44.3 per cent of all suspects in 2016.

Canada: New Data Show 69% of Illegal Border-Crossers Are Being Granted Asylum

Almost 70 per cent of refugees who illegally cross the U.S. border into Canada are granted asylum here, despite the widespread public view that these border-crossers are not real refugees in need of protection.

The data were released this week by the Immigration and Refugee Board.

Since January, The RCMP have intercepted more than 15,100 people entering through unguarded border entry points from the United States, after President Donald Trump came into power and issued a series of executive orders to expedite deportation of foreign nationals and ban immigration from certain countries.

Of the 10,790 asylum claims received from March to September of this year, the refugee board has processed 592, or 5.4 per cent. Of those claims 69 per cent, or 408 cases, were granted asylum, while 141 were rejected. Forty-three other claims were either abandoned or withdrawn.

The acceptance rate for the border-crossers is even higher than the 63-per-cent overall rate for asylum-seekers in 2016…

Illegal Immigrant Accused of Sexually Assaulting 80-Year-Old Texas Woman

An illegal immigrant is accused of sexually assaulting an elderly woman after allegedly breaking into her home.

Jacobo Zelaya, a 43-year-old illegal immigrant, was arrested after a 60-year-old man said he walked into his residence to find his mother, an 80-year-old elderly woman being sexually assaulted by Zelaya.

According to police, the man entered his home to “hear his mother yelling out of her bedroom” as the illegal immigrant sexually assaulted her. When the man rushed to his mother’s bedroom, he found Zelaya “without shorts in boxer like underwear laying on top of his mother.”

The man says he defended his elderly mother and beat up Zelaya, prompting the illegal immigrant to run away. Later that day, Zelaya was arrested in Hidalgo County and the elderly woman was taken for treatment to the Valley Baptist Medical Center.

Mass Immigration Suffocating Europe

In The Strange Death of Europe Douglas Murray notes among other dispiriting statistics that 130,000 women in Britain have suffered from female genital mutilation. That barbarity has been illegal for three decades, yet no one has been successfully prosecuted .

Amidst the near-daily accounts of suicide bombings, shootings, stabbings and foiled terror plots — from the streets of Paris to the Borough Market — the spectre of Islamic terrorism in Europe has taken on a wearying familiarity. That the response of many to these obscene incursions upon the values and liberties of the European peoples should be a sigh of resignation at the inevitability of it all, is itself a remarkable phenomenon. Oddly, few among the media class deem it fit to remark upon. Yet the sense of resignation is almost as palpable as the terrorism itself.

With this in mind Douglas Murray has written a stylish and tightly argued volume, The Strange Death of Europe: Immigration, Identity, Islam, that addresses the concatenation of events that has put Europe on the verge of “committing suicide”. Far from a boisterous call-to-arms in defence of Western civilisation, Murray’s book speaks with a deep regret that “by the end of the lifespans of most people currently alive Europe will not be Europe and the peoples of Europe will have lost the only place in the world we had to call home”.

The proximate cause of this suicide is the decades-long current of mass immigration. Unplanned by those who originally set it in motion, it increasingly pushes Europe in the cultural direction of the very places from which many immigrants seek refuge. But another object of Murray’s critique is the cultural condition of Europe itself. Mired in a chronic state of torpor and self-abnegation, the media and political class of Europe lacks the courage of its convictions necessary to make a stand against developments it would once have found unthinkable.

The Catastrophic Vision of Hugh Hefner: How Our Culture Lost Its Soul

Eleven years ago, Chuck Colson put Hefner’s legacy into proper perspective. On the occasion of Heffner’s 80th birthday, Chuck said that “Hugh Hefner did more than anyone else to turn America into a great pornographic wasteland.”

Hefner’s journalistic eulogists are celebrating his rebellion and ultimate triumph over the “puritanical elements of the [1950s].” You know, that “dark and joyless time in America,” as writer Matthew Scully put it, “when one could actually go about daily life without ever encountering pornographic images.” Without Hefner’s pioneering vision, “American males could not avail themselves of hundreds of millions of obscene films every year-as they do now.”

That our pornographic wasteland is filled with so many victims is also part of the man’s legacy, which can only be fully understand in light of the larger story of the sexual revolution.

You see, Hefner once claimed to have changed America, and it’s hard to argue that he didn’t. He took Alfred Kinsey’s ideas of sex separated from morality and embodied them in images and words, making them seem glamorous, sophisticated, and respectable.
