Gates of Vienna News Feed 6/13/2017

It was a bad day for pedestrians on both sides of the Atlantic. In at least four separate incidents — one in Leicester in the UK, and the other three in the USA — drivers ran into pedestrians on the street and on sidewalks. The American incidents occurred in Philadelphia, L.A., and the Bronx — in the last one, one person was killed.

In other news, a carbon monoxide leak in a building in Manhattan sickened a number of people, caused a panic, and drew the attention of the FBI. At first the incident was thought to have been caused by a mysterious powder in a box that had been opened in the basement of a market. Eventually, however, the cause was determined to be a defective vent line for a boiler in the building.

2 Pedestrians Hit in Car Crash Outside Suburban Station

Two pedestrians were hit outside of Suburban Station when two vehicles crashed on John F. Kennedy Boulevard late Tuesday morning, police said.

The accident occurred at 16th Street and JFK Boulevard about 11:40 a.m., police said. The pedestrians were taken by medics to Hahnemann University Hospital. They were in stable condition with injuries throughout their bodies, according to Capt. Patrick Kelly of the Accident Investigation District.

A black Toyota Sienna minivan and a silver Hyundai Santa Fe were both traveling west on JFK when it appeared one of the vehicles tried to make a lane change. The minivan struck the back of the Hyundai, crashed onto the sidewalk and hit a newspaper stand, Kelly said, injuring the two pedestrians in the process. The van and the newspaper stand both struck the BB&T bank building, whose front window was shattered.

Car Strikes 2 Pedestrians at LA Pride Festival

WEST HOLLYWOOD — The L.A. Pride festival, which drew thousands of people to West Hollywood Sunday to defend the civil liberties of the LGBTQ community, took a somber turn when a car struck two pedestrians.

The two victims were hit by a car pulling out of a West Hollywood driveway and appeared to suffer minor injuries, authorities said Monday.

The accident happened at 10:04 p.m. Sunday in the 600 block of North La Peer Drive, off of Santa Monica Boulevard, according to Sgt. L. Eddins of the Sheriff’s West Hollywood Station.

Firefighters Outside the Amish Market in Lower Manhattan, The Site of a Carbon Monoxide Leak Tuesday Morning.

High levels of carbon monoxide spewed by a faulty oil burner that caught fire in the basement of a Lower Manhattan apartment building sickened 34 people Tuesday morning, according to the Fire Department. None of the illnesses were life-threatening, the department said.

All 12 stories of the building between Murray Street and Park Place, along West Broadway, were evacuated. The fire, which was reported around 8:30 a.m., grew to a two-alarm fire by 9 a.m. By midmorning, 25 fire vehicles and 106 firefighters were on the scene. The incident occurred in the basement of the Amish Market, a grocery store in the building.

Outside the building, hazardous material specialists from the Fire Department as well as F.B.I. agents could be seen.

Lightning Bolt Travels From Tree and Explodes Into Home

ANTRIM COUNTY, Mi. (WPBN/WGTU) — It’s a story that truly showcases the power of mother nature.

So much so, that a fire chief is calling it an “act of God.”

A lightning bolt hit a tree in Mancelona early this morning, traveled 50-yards through the roots, and exploded through the basement of a family’s home.

Mike Stickler and his family just moved to town from Bay City nine days ago and unfortunately now they have some work to do on their home.

Stickler says he was watching TV on his basement couch around midnight when he decided to head upstairs to bed.

About an hour later, he heard an explosion.

“It basically shook the whole house and woke up, and the fire alarms started going off,” Stickler said.

Mike could see smoke coming from the basement to the upstairs. He went to see what happened and was met with more smoke and fire.

NAFTA 2.0 — Globalists Reboot, Rev up Lobbying Efforts

The Peterson Institute for International Economics (PIIE), arguably the premier globalist think tank on trade and economic matters, is holding a conference today to ramp up political and business support for NAFTA, the embattled North American Free Trade Agreement. The conference, entitled “A Positive NAFTA Renegotiation,” which is being webcast from PIIE’s Washington, D.C., headquarters, is the latest in a series of conferences, panels, and publications by PIIE, the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), the Brookings Institution, the Council of the Americas, and fellow one-worlders to rebuff any attempts by President Donald Trump to undo NAFTA.

New York Explosion: Suspicious Package in NYC as FBI Scramble

Cops have swooped to West Broadway and Murray Street in Lower Manhattan as investigations continue.

At least 35 people are being treated for carbon monoxide poisoning after a suspected gas leak.

Of the injured, one person is believed to be in a critical condition.

And police are also believed to be investigating a suspicious package in a separate incident — just three blocks away from Ground Zero.

Video from the scene showed dozens of firefighters as well as several fire trucks and ambulances surrounding the area.

People are being treated at local hospitals.

Chief James Leonard said: “We found a defective boiler in the basement with some sort of broken pipe that was producing the CO.”…

Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck by Two Vehicles in the Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A pedestrian died after he was struck by two vehicles in the Concourse section of the Bronx, and now police are searching for one of the drivers who they said fled the scene.

Gabriel Garcia, 28, of the Bronx, was crossing the street at East 138th Street and Walton Avenue around 10:30 p.m. Monday when police said a dark-colored sedan with TLC plates clipped him, knocking him to the roadway.

Witnesses say Garcia was in the crosswalk when he was struck…

Muslim Migrant Beats Wife With Hockey Stick for Half an Hour, Says He Didn’t Know it Was Against the Law

He didn’t know it was against the law because the mandate to beat one’s wife is in the Qur’an:

“Men have authority over women because Allah has made the one superior to the other, and because they spend their wealth to maintain them. Good women are obedient. They guard their unseen parts because Allah has guarded them. As for those from whom you fear disobedience, admonish them and send them to beds apart and beat them.” — Qur’an 4:34

Muhammad “struck me on the chest which caused me pain, and then said: Did you think that Allah and His Apostle would deal unjustly with you?” — Aisha (Sahih Muslim 2127)

Hungarian PM Orbán: ‘The European Union is on the Side of Terrorists’

[…]”Brussels is openly on the side of terrorists,” said the prime minister Monday in Budapest in Hungary’s parliament. Mr. Orbán heavily criticised the political bloc who passed a resolution protesting the imprisonment of an asylum seeker named Ahmed H. who was found guilty of terror charges, Die Presse reports.

Ahmed H. was put on trial for being part of an attack on the Hungarian border in 2015 at the height of the migrant crisis. The court found him guilty of being a “ringleader” and sentenced the Syrian asylum seeker to 10 years in prison.

Orbán also railed against the EU for threatening sanctions on the country for not taking redistributed migrants from countries like Greece and Italy.

According to Orbán, Hungarians would not be “blackmailed” by Brussels and said: “We want a Hungarian Hungary and a European Europe.”

“The European Union is not Brussels,” he added, and would not submit to the idea that “our future is determined in Moscow, Brussels or Washington”.

Hungary Defies European Union as Orban Cracks Down on NGOs

HUNGARY has defied the European Union as its parliament launches a crackdown on foreign-funded non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

Prime minister Viktor Orban has stepped up Budapest’s ongoing row with billionaire philanthropist George Soros as he takes aim at NGOs.

Right-wing populist Mr Orban has especially focused on organisations funded by Mr Soros, an American-Hungarian, branding them a “mafia-like” network with paid political activists who threaten national sovereignty.

The new law requires NGOs that get money from abroad to register with the authorities.

NGOs receiving more than $26,000-a-year from overseas are affected by the law which ordered them to declare their “foreign status” online and in all press kits and publications.

Tory Peer Warsi: UK Should Forget About Integration, Tackle Islamophobia Instead

There is “no point” putting Muslims in Britain under scrutiny after three terror attacks in three months, according to Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, who argued the UK should include Islamophobia in its definition of “extremism”.

Asserting that Britain’s relationship with its resident Muslims should be reset from scratch, Warsi demanded an end to pressure on the Muslim community, which she declared to be united in fighting terror.

Highlighting how “imams and young people have taken to the streets” and “Muslims have raised money for the victims”, the former Conservative Party chairman said Muslims in Britain have played their part in opposing Islamist terror attacks and suggested anger at terror attacks is even stronger within the Muslim community than amongst the general public.

“I’ve never seen as much anger. The language used to describe the terrorists has never been sharper, angrier, and, I would say, the level of anger towards the terrorists from British Muslims is even greater than it is within the mainstream,” she said.

Because of this, the Baroness urged the government to show restraint in its response to terrorism, telling The Guardian: “There’s no point saying we need to go deeper into the Muslim community, because in all cases they reported them [the terrorists]; it was obvious to them who was radicalised.”

UK: Muslim Van Driver is Jailed for Five Years After Mounting Pavement and Ploughing Into Five Men When He ‘Saw Red’ During Ramadan Fast

A Muslim van driver has been jailed for mounting a pavement and ploughing into five men after he claimed he ‘saw red’ because they had ‘racially abused’ him.

Lugman Aslam, 26, was involved in a fight with the men before mowing them down in Leicester city centre.

Leicester Crown Court was shown shocking footage of several victims being mowed down by his van, with one ending up on the bonnet.

In mitigation the court heard Aslam had been fasting for Ramadam on that day and for more than 20 days in total.

Warsaw Muslims Call Off Event Following Far-Right Threats

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — The Muslim community in Warsaw canceled a public event Tuesday aimed at countering stereotypes about Islam after receiving threats from far-right nationalists.

A Muslim community leader, Ahmad Alattal, said hateful comments were made online about an open house planned at the Muslim “Cultural Centre”, including a call to not visit the place but “burn it.” Though the community has grown used to such comments, it cancelled the event for the safety of the many schoolchildren that had planned to attend, he said.

The development comes amid rising animosity toward Muslims in largely Catholic Poland, an issue adding to tensions between Warsaw and the European Union. On Tuesday the European Commission threatened legal action against Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic for failing to accept refugees as part of a legally binding EU plan.

Poland’s government says it would rather face a court and fines than accept Muslim refugees, whom it frequently describes as potential terrorist threats.

Kuwait: Blogger Sentenced for Spreading ISIS Ideology

Court reduces sentence of parents who killed daughter

The criminal court yesterday sentenced a blogger to five years in prison over charges of joining the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization, spreading its ideas through social media, possessing weapons, ammunition and psychotropic substances in addition to misuse of mobile phones.

In other news, the appeal court yesterday cancelled a first instance verdict sentencing a Kuwaiti couple to death for killing their own daughter and putting her body in an ice box. In the new verdict, the court sentenced the father to ten years prison and acquitted the mother. The verdict was changed after the defendants’ lawyers managed to change the case’s description and classification to prove that the mother had nothing to do with the father’s crime.

Muslim Body Challenges Madras High Court Calling Its Hindu Judges as ‘Kafir’

Madurai Bench of Madras High Court lashes out at Muslim Jamaath for calling Hindu judges kafir, issuing fatwa against them.

ENS | Madurai | June 13, 2017:: The Madurai Bench of the Madras HC condemned the TN Jamathul Ulama Sabha, Jamaath of Theni district, for issuing a fatwa against the secular court judges and calling them kafir, and for stating that they would not let them pass any orders against the so-called orders passed by it (Jamaath).

Justice P N Prakash observed that “the Fatwa was denigrating the judiciary and indeed disturbing. If Jamaaths are going to replace the existing secular courts, the first casualty will be the advocates. One of the blackest days in the annals of the judiciary was on August 8, 2016, when the fundamentalists killed 54 lawyers in Pakistan’s Quetta district.”

In two petitions, Babu alias Mydeen Batcha of Bodinayakkanur and his family said that he was married to A Naseema on October 28, 2007, and that due to differences, their marriage ran into rough weather. Naseema lodged a complaint against Babu and his family for alleged harassment with the Bodinayakkanur All Women Police in 2009.

But after the elders in the community intervened, the couple decided to bury their differences amicably. Naseema gave a statement before the Uthamapalayam Judicial Magistrate court, where the case was pending, saying that she was willing to withdraw the case, and the All Women Police closed the case.

However, Batcha pronounced the Triple Talaq against her and issued an advocate’s notice within a few days. Naseema filed a decree before the Theni Sub Court asking it to declare the Triple Talaq as null and void. The trial court awarded the decree in her favour only to reverse the order, and Naseema appealed at the HC. The HC granted a stay on the trial court order (which was in favour of Batcha).

Naseema had also filed a private complaint before the Bodinayakkanur JM Court against him and eight family members claiming that they had allegedly cheated her after convincing her to withdraw the FIR, said Batcha. Batcha also said that the Bodi JM M Amirthavel had been biased against him and had issued non-bailable warrants against him unnecessarily. Justice P N Prakash said the court had found prima facie evidence only against Batcha and his parents.

Inside Venezuela: The Socialist Haven on the Brink of Total Collapse

[…]Amid the crisis, some Venezuelans have accused others of not doing enough to fight the Maduro regime. “The only way I see out of the current regime is a military coup,” my taxi driver, Nelson Álvarez, tells me. “Some people have accused me of indifference towards the current political situation, but I have a family to look after. No matter how many or how violent the opposition protests, the key to bringing down this government are the military.”

Everything about Venezuela suggests this is a nation on the brink of collapse. Whether it is the ongoing violence, the extreme poverty, or the enormous piles of garbage in the street, nothing is working as it should be. In January, inflation reached over 800 percent, while some analysts predicting it could reach 1500 percent by the end of the year. Even at one of the city’s most exclusive hotels, breakfast offerings remain scarce and electricity and internet connection regularly cut out.

Stricter Border Controls Halve Asylum Seeker Applications in Austria

Austria has seen a 53 per cent decrease in the number of migrants applying for asylum over the past year after strengthening border controls.

The central European country has seen a significant drop in asylum applications over the past year. In 2016, from January to May, there were 22,419 requests for asylum. During the same period this year, the number has fallen to 10,520 following the toughened border security with Italy which has impacted the movement of migrants crossing the Mediterranean, Kronen Zeitung reports.

  1. Canada: Muslim migrant with hockey stick….
I’m waiting for a Liberal,or at least an NDP, Member of Parliament to come forward and announce that hockey sticks are dangerous and that they be banned in Canada.
    (Crickets)
Hey guys, at least one of you come forward with a poll to get Canadians views about how dangerous hockey sticks can be and a study into how hockey sticks can be regulated by the Canadian federal government for the safety of all.
    (Crickets)
    Cowards.

  2. Though the van attack in Leicester happened in 2016, the first paragraph of the summary here on the site suggests – to me at least – that it’s just happened. Is a clarification due here?

Further to that, it bothers me that fasting during Ramadan is presented as an excuse for this homicidal crime. Fasting would, presumably, also tend to make any Muslim driver less attentive and perhaps sleepy. So should Muslims be banned from driving during Ramadan? Hard to enforce and in any case (scream, scream) “discriminatory”. Just one more sound reason why wildly differing cultures don’t mix well in the same pint pot. Can “fasting” be a legitimate excuse? Of course not. Nor can small stature (as reported in the linked article). A few “character references” for the judge? Not too hard to arrange, I would think.

Aspects of the British system of “justice” are quite loopy, as proved by the judge’s comments in this case. The game seems to be “At All Costs Find An Excuse.”

And just wait til we see on this site (maybe tomorrow) about the sentences handed down yesterday to the “youths” who tried to set on fire that homeless man in the Berlin subway.

    • Yes, in a sane West they would be banned from driving during Ramadan.

Low blood sugar and inadequate sleep have the same effect on drivers and their alertness as having too many drinks.

    dylan_take_from_sparknotes_for_his_nobel_lecture.html

I reached out to Columbia, Dylan’s record label, to try to connect with Dylan or his management for comment, but as of publication time, I have not heard back.

Theft in the name of art is an ancient tradition, and Dylan has been a magpie since the 1960s. He has also frequently been open about his borrowings. In 2001, he even released an album titled “Love and Theft,” the quotation marks seeming to imply that the album title was itself taken from Eric Lott’s acclaimed history of racial appropriation, Love & Theft: Blackface Minstrelsy and the American Working Class.

  4. Okay, the news is horrendous. There is nothing an ordinary person like myself can do to change it, either. So most of us read this stuff in horror every morning and then wonder what is coming next.

How about we do like the original Gates of Vienna and send all these people back to their home countries, all the while encouraging them to make their OWN countries more livable instead of invading ours. They could start by studying, but no — they already know it all and of course the Prophet was the “perfect Man” (which is another load of BS) but it’s their choice. They should just do it in muslim land and stop infecting Europe.

The only reason we don’t have as big a problem in USA is because they know we have guns. That is my take on it, anyway.

As always, thank you Baron and dear wife, for all that you do — you keep us informed which is important in this day of obfuscation and outright lying by the so-called “Press.”

  5. Well worth a visit…..

    http://stiltonsplace.blogspot.co.uk

“New York’s well-funded (including with tax money) “Shakespeare in the Park” company recently staged a modern day retelling of Julius Caesar in which the title character is depicted as President Trump – causing liberal glee when he’s graphically and bloodily assassinated onstage by knife-wielding maniacs of the type that recently staged a similar production on London Bridge.

What a great family outing, huh? And how better to introduce kids to Shakespeare than by making it “fun” with the repeated stabbing of an American President?!”

  6. Warsaw Muslims Call Off Event Following Far-Right Threats

I find it rather curious how Muslims consistently seem to wear out their welcome whenever they take up residence amongst the unbelievers. It is as if they communicate an epidemic of Muslim Fatigue regardless of locale. Much odder is how some Muslims display Muslim Fatigue towards their own kind. Some might even go so far as to call it a form of [gasp!] intolerance.
