Who Knows What It’s Got Up Its Sleeve?

Polish cavalry in the ruins of Sochaczew, September 1939*

It’s become somewhat of a tradition here at Gates of Vienna to feature Al Stewart’s song “Laughing into 1939” in a New Year’s Eve post. As far as I can determine, we’ve used it three times in the past — in 2008, 2010, and 2016.

And I’m including it here yet one more time on the departing tail of 2017. How could I resist? Especially now that it’s available on YouTube, so that everyone can hear the haunting melody while they read the bittersweet lyrics (which are reproduced at the bottom of this post):

Even though we’ve been laughing into 1939 for almost ten years, somehow that fateful year hasn’t quite arrived. Yet.

To ponder the bittersweet New Year’s Eve of 1938 is to view it in retrospect, with all the benefits granted by hindsight. Just as those long-dead partygoers did, we’re walking backwards towards whatever our own grim rendezvous with destiny may be. Fifty years from now our descendants will understand that moment and what it meant. But for the time being, we know nothing about it.

And it may not be a cataclysmic moment like those of August 1914 or September 1939. It may be a long, drawn-out cataclysm, moving imperceptibly down a seemingly endless slope, ledge by ledge, until we reach the bottom. Maybe something like the Thirty Years’ War.

Or perhaps we’re midway through our own version of 1789-1815, which began with the overthrow of the Ancien Régime and ended with the New World Order ushered in by the Congress of Vienna. How was Prince Metternich to know that the magnificent system he godfathered was to last barely a century? That his glittering Austrian Empire would be shattered into minute fragments by his successors?

Perhaps our cataclysm began in February 1979, when Ayatollah Khomeini seized power and established the Islamic Republic of Iran. Since then we have seen sudden sharp drops as we descend from ledge to ledge — the Marine barracks in Lebanon, Gulf War I, Khobar Towers, the Cole, 9-11, Afghanistan, Gulf War II, “The Arab Spring”, on and on…

It’s not over yet, not by a long shot. The current war is sometimes called “The Long War”, and with good reason — it will most likely continue for another generation or two. We may laugh into our own 1939 for fifty or sixty years.

After ten years of this, I no longer make specific predictions. We’re laughing into whatever year it may be. Let’s see what 2018 has up its sleeve.

“Safe Zones” for Women on Silvesternacht

Tonight is Silvesternacht — New Year’s Eve — in Germany. Since 2015 it has also been Gropin’ & Rapin’ night in major German cities, thanks to all those culture-enriching “refugees” that the Germans have so earnestly welcomed into their collective bosom.

Tonight the city of Berlin is implementing a Silvesternacht strategy that was pioneered in Sweden a year or two ago: “safe zones” for women, no men allowed. I would have thought such a plan violated the country’s constitutional ban on sexual discrimination, but apparently that otherwise sacred rule is subject to flexible interpretation where the behavior of migrants is involved.

As Vlad Tepes said, “This means, of course, that any women not in a women-only safe zone are ‘asking for it’, and sharia is complete.”

A Polish woman named Olga posted the following tweet to tweak the Germans about their difficulties with cultural enrichment:

Polish authorities have set up a special “safe zone” for women in preparation for New Year’s Eve celebrations. pic.twitter.com/0s0eh5yup9

Other German cities are seeing a massively increased police presence tonight. North Rhine-Westphalia, a.k.a. “Moloch-am-Rhein”, is deploying 5,700 officers across the state, including an initial contingent of 1,400 in Cologne. Egri Nök said, “Cologne and the other towns like Essen have the largest police deployment ever.”

See the Hamburger Abendblatt for German-language news on the Berlin “safe zone”. And here’s a report from Fox News:

The New Kids on the Block

A degree of disorder or randomness in a system…

by Seneca III

“Most of the crimes which disturb the internal peace of society are produced by the restraints which the necessary, but unequal, laws of property have imposed on the appetites of mankind, by confining to a few possession of those objects that are coveted by many. Of all of our passions and appetites the love of power is the most imperious and unsociable nature, since the pride of one man requires the submission of the multitude. In the tumult of civil discord the laws of society lose their force, and their place is seldom supplied by those of humanity.

“The ardour of contention, the pride of victory, the despair of success, the memory of past injuries and the fear of future dangers all contribute to inflame the mind and to silence the voice of pity. From such motives almost every page of history has been stained with civil blood.”

From Gibbon’s The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, Chapter Four, “The Challenge to the Old Regime”

A New Great Revolt Arises?

Gibbon recognised how clearly history demonstrates that the life spans of Cultures, Empires and even Civilisations are finite and cyclic, that all have an end and a beginning, an end and a beginning which are in actuality one and the same thing.

Hence it is intriguing to ponder if we are now living through such a time, a time when the Ancien Régime must fall before the new, a time when a fresher, younger generation steps forth after decades of tyranny and treachery and says, “Enough is enough, be done with it, for the future belongs to us and we shall seize it,” and thus this begets the question, “Is ‘Generation Identity’ going to be the instrument of these current changed times, or not?”

Generation Identity

Below are some abstracts from a somewhat less than impartial analysis of the movement by the New World Order drones of Wikipoop:

The identitarian movement is a European and North American white nationalist movement originating in France. The identitarians began as a youth movement deriving from the French Nouvelle Droite (New Right) Génération Identitaire…Although initially the youth wing of the anti-immigration and nativist Bloc Identitaire, it has taken on its own identity and is largely classified as a separate entity altogether…

…The movement is a part of the so-called counter-jihad movement, with many in it believing in the white genocide conspiracy theory. It also supports the concept of a “Europe of 100 flags”.

It has been considered white supremacist by civil-rights organizations, researchers of extremism, news organizations, and various governments. The movement has also been described as being a part of the global alt-right…

…In North America the Traditionalist Youth Network is modeled after the European Identitarian movement according to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). The Identity Europa movement also labels itself identitarian. The United States has seen a significant increase in people and organizations affiliated with the identitarian movement after the campaign and election of Donald Trump. Richard Spencer’s National Policy Institute is also a white nationalist movement based off the Identitarian movement.

Well, I am of the opinion that these accolades, particularly those from the uncorrupted, impartial academicians of the Southern Poverty Law Centre (cynical old me), means that these kids must be doing something, if not just about everything, right. But you, Dear Reader, must come to your own conclusions.

Hereunder you will find Generation Identity in its many online national incarnations, mostly in English translation if you log in from an English-speaking country, but in its respective national language if you log in from that particular country:

Police Car Goes BOOM! in Malmö

Many thanks to FouseSquawk for translating this report from Fria Tider about an incident in the southern Swedish city of Malmö:

Police car blown up outside police station in Malmö —Two arrested

29 December, 2017

A police car that stood parked outside a police station in Malmö was blown up on Friday evening. That’s what was described by police on their home page. The detonation was very strong. Two young suspects were arrested in connection with the crime scene.

It was around 7:30pm on Friday when the police car that was parked outside the police station on Sallerupsvagen in Malmö was subjected to a detonation of some kind.

“There is a lot of damage to the police car,” write the police on their home page.

It must have been an extremely strong bang.

“It sounded ridiculously strong, and smoke is coming from the hood of the car,” said a witness who lives in the vicinity to Aftonbladet, and pointed out that it sounded much stronger than a New Year’s Eve explosive.

A large area around the police car was blocked off and crime technicians and personnel from the national bomb squad were dispatched to the scene.

Two men, born 1991 and 1995, were arrested in connection with the crime scene. They are suspected of involvement in the explosion. The investigation is continuing with, among other things, house searches, interviews with witnesses and a review of surveillance tapes, the police state.

No one was injured.

No motive for the attack is known as yet.

Another Golliwog, And Some “15-Year-Old” Boys

On last night’s post about the golliwogs of Machwitz Coffee, our English correspondent Seneca III left this comment:

They’re not extinct, Baron, and I will shortly send you a photograph of my fella — a local little old lady of the greatest generation makes and sells them to us reprobates in order to supplement her meagre pension.

As promised, here is the photo of the samizdat golliwog:

And now for some additional photos that have collected in my to-do box since last night, all sent by our German correspondent Egri Nök. None of them are golliwogs, although some of them may be a bit woggish-looking. The traditional golliwog doll is much beloved of small children, but these swarthy fellows are generally beloved only of 15-year-old German girls.

First, this photo of some 15-year-old German schoolchildren:

Those little boys don’t look a day over 14. Especially the one on the left with a receding hairline— he’s not even bald yet!

The three photos below are of Abdul D., the “15-year-old” Afghan who allegedly stabbed a German girl to death in the town of Kandel in Rhineland-Palatinate. Egri found a batch of photos that don’t have black tape over the eyes:

Abdul’s five-o’clock shadow is so endearingly childlike…

When I saw these photos, I said, “What’s with the bow tie? The guy looks like a waiter.” But according to Egri, based on the context, the bow-tie photos were taken during Eid festivities.

Finally, on a different sartorial note:

A Cup of Joe — With Golliwogs

Machwitz Coffee (Machwitz Kaffee) is roasted and brewed in the German city of Hannover. In a time of universal political correctness, the company’s logo is endearingly un-PC:

I can’t tell whether those are golliwogs or golliwogesses. They seem to be of indeterminate sex — short nappy hair, but those look like dresses hanging down below the shield with the company’s name.

And here’s a delicious-looking sample of Machwitz Coffee in the company’s custom cup:

Jede Tasse Extraklasse — Kaffeetradition seit 1883
“Each cup, extra class — coffee tradition since 1883”

Earlier this evening I discussed the Machwitz golliwogs with our German correspondent Egri Nök:

Baron:   But doesn’t Machwitz get in trouble for having wogs on its products? I mean, it’s so WAYCIST. Sweden had to purge itself of all instances of that sort of thing.
Egri:   Yes, they did get into trouble recently — now, as of this week. Thanks to an American cultural studies professor. The company said they were open to discussing the logo with him. My bet is that they will have to remove it.
Baron:   Better buy up those cups now, then! They’ll be valuable collectors’ items.

If you’re a WAYCIST, and plan to visit Germany in the near future, my advice is to stop by Hannover and get your photo taken with the Machwitz golliwogs. They won’t be around much longer.

Golliwogs in general are an endangered species. I expect them to be completely extinct within a generation.

The Mechanics of Population Exchange

The following essay by Christian Zeitz and Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff was originally written in German, and has been kindly translated into English by JLH.

The Mechanics of Population Exchange

by Christian Zeitz and Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff

By and large, public discussions about the background and causes of the so-called refugee crisis in Europe have awakened false perceptions. Even before the great onrush of so-called refugees the summer of 2015, there was the idea that Europe could be duty-bound to open all borders uncontrolled and grant mass immigrants an unrestricted claim to European hospitality — the minorities program of left-extremists of the “No borders” and “Refugees welcome” faction. Powerful, virtually physical pressure was created by dramatic pictures of desperate families at border fences and doomed passengers in overfilled rubber rafts, and this caused a psychic tipping in much of the population. In a frantic blend of sympathy and fear at the uncontrollable, actual and potential violence of fast-approaching immigrant armies, the majority population began reluctantly to accept the lasting residency and need for support of great masses of culture-alien immigrants.

After the first long while and the attempts by states to create the structures and wherewithal of so-called integration, the situation took on an initial appearance of normality. The mood of the people of Germany and Austria began to change when phenomena that had long been warned against became valid for the public on New Year’s Eve, 2015-2016. Rapes and other sexual assaults, enormous financial expenditures for first responders, permanent accommodations and attempts at so-called integration were from this time on not forbidden topics. After the original, publicly-regulated helpful hands euphoria, reactions from skepticism to rejection began to spread in social discourse. With every media report of sexual attacks, crimes concerning property and actions democratizing a lack of desire to integrate, passive resistance began to form in much of the population. Doubt about the general manageability articulated at first by such politicians as are called in public discourse “xenophobes” and “racists” began in the second half of 2016 to become a common public tendency.

Although the relevant studies and analyses during the crisis and up to date proceed on the assumption that the number of those wanting to emigrate from the African continent and the Near East is in the area of the upper double-digit millions, the stream of refugees has seemed to decrease markedly at this time. In the meantime, political discourse in Europe with regard to new arrivals is almost exclusively of “family reunification.” So has the refugee crisis been handled? Can this discussion politically return to the accustomed agenda? The facts say otherwise.

From the point of view of European elites, 2017 was a pivotal year. And a hurdle that absolutely had to be cleared. Decisive elections could have had the potential of drastically changing the political landscape: Holland, France, Germany, Austria — the political resistance was well positioned and posed a great danger to the protagonists of the “welcoming culture.” The elites’ language and political marketing had to adapt to this danger. Accordingly, it became acceptable to entertain ideas of limiting immigration, for security and defense of national boundaries, and requiring the acquisition of Western cultural standards by the welcomed “new citizens.” All the campaigns in the above-mentioned countries were characterized by placation, supposed self-criticism and involvement in the “justified fears” of the populace. And all of these campaigns had succeeded with these ideas.

Tariq Ramadan: The Artful Dodger of Oxford

The following post consists of two guest-essays about Tariq Ramadan by Michael Copeland. Both pieces were composed before the latest allegations of rape were made against Mr. Ramadan.

Tariq Ramadan: The Golden Rule

by Michael Copeland

The Golden Rule — to do unto others as you would have them do unto you — is familiar as a model for codes of conduct and for systems of governance.

Tariq Ramadan, holder of a Qatari-funded chair at Oxford, has recently been the subject of accusations against him of rape and brutal sexual assault, some from former pupils and students from earlier teaching positions abroad. The University was shamed into putting him on leave. Before the current allegations Ramadan acted as adviser on Islam to David Cameron, and used to be invited as a speaker to different venues. At one such talk in a church he was asked about the Golden Rule. He answered that in Islam the Golden Rule operates for “your brothers and your sisters, and some scholars say for all of humanity”. This sounds quite appealing, but deserves closer examination, and some explanation.

Your brothers and your sisters

Notice that “your brothers and your sisters” are cited separately from “all of humanity”, who only “some scholars say” are included. Why is this? It is because “your brothers and your sisters” means fellow muslims. The rest of humanity, the non-muslims, do not qualify. The unnamed “some scholars” are useful decoys. They were not identified, but their opinion, if they exist, can easily be shown to be unreliable by reference to the Koran. It is this book, available to be consulted online, that provides the instruction. The Koran is part of Islamic Law. Denying any verse is a capital offence (Manual of Islamic Law o8.7 (7)), which anyone is free to carry out vigilante-style: there is no penalty, “since it is killing someone who deserves to die” (Manual, o8.4).
Apartheid

Relentless hate-filled apartheid is commanded, and the instructions are not optional: “When a matter has been decided by Allah and his messenger the muslim man or woman has no choice” (33:36); “none may change his words (18:27). Muslims are “the best of peoples” (3:110): non-muslims, the unbelievers, are “the worst of creatures” (98:6), “the vilest of beasts” (8:22, 8:55). Muslims are instructed, “O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other” (5:51). “Allah is the enemy of the unbelievers” (2:98): he “does not love the unbelievers” (30:45). They are “unclean” (9:28). “Between us and you enmity and hatred forever until you believe in Allah alone” is what is praised as “an excellent pattern” (60:4).

Them and us

As well as mandating this enmity, the Koran itself confirms that the Golden Rule only applies to muslims, not to “all of humanity”. Muslims “are merciful to one another but ruthless to the unbeliever” (48:29). Non-muslims have to convert, or accept subordinate status with restricted rights (only if they are Christians or Jews), or be killed, like Yazidis and Hindus. “Kill unbelievers wherever you find them”, instructs verse 5 of chapter 9, the chapter, “Sura At-Tawba”, cited by the Woolwich killer of Lee Rigby. Under Islam’s doctrine of “abrogation” it is that chapter, because it is the latest in time sequence, which overrides and “abrogates” all the peaceful verses elsewhere. “The verses of forgiveness”, revered scholar Mohammed As-Shawkani explained, “are abrogated by the obligation of fighting”.

Ali Sina, an Iranian ex-muslim, speaking from an inside knowledge of Islam, says:

“The reason I am against Islam is not because it is a religion, but because it is a political ideology of imperialism and domination in the guise of religion. Because Islam does not follow the Golden Rule, it attracts violent people.” (quoted by Geert Wilders, Berlin, Oct 2010, www.AtlasShrugs2000.com)

Deception

Islam has the sinister doctrine whereby deception in the cause of Islam is specifically authorised: it has a name — taqiyya. Tariq Ramadan is artfully deceptive. The Golden Rule is not part of Islam.

Tariq Ramadan: “Are You Swiss or a Muslim?”

by Michael Copeland

Tariq Ramadan, holder of a recently created Qatari-funded chair at Oxford, is at present the subject of several accusations of rape and brutal assault by different women, some of them former pupils and students from previous teaching positions. The University, at first inactive over these allegations, was shamed into putting him on leave. An Egyptian with Swiss nationality, he is a grandson of the co-founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, the parent organisation of Al Qaeda, Hezbollah, Hamas, and other designated terrorist entities. Ramadan was David Cameron’s adviser on Islam.

Speaking a few years ago to a mainly Anglican audience in an English church, he touched on the subject of citizenship by asking and answering himself as follows:

More on the “Youth” Who Stabbed a Girl to Death in a Kandel Drugstore

The following report by Egri Nök was published earlier at Vlad Tepes in a slightly different form.

A late update from Egri (source: Bild): The parents had filed complaint against the perp, 15-year-old Abdul D., for “harassment, threat, insult.” A photo of young Abdul is below. If you ask me, he doesn’t look a day over 14.

December 28, 2017

Kandel — A 15-year-old girl was stabbed down on Wednesday afternoon in a drugstore in Rhineland-Palatinate by an Afghan boy of the same age. He was the girl’s ex-boyfriend. This is what the leading chief prosecutor Angelika Möhlig said on a press conference. An arrest warrant was issued.

The boy is in preliminary detention under strong suspicion of manslaughter. He has been refusing to make a statement so far. According to the information, the girl broke up with the accused at the beginning of December. On Wednesday they encountered each other accidentally. The Afghan followed his ex-girlfriend and stabbed her repeatedly in the drugstore.

After the relationship of several months had ended, the youth announced on social media that he wanted to “catch” his ex girlfriend, said Police Deputy Chief Eberhard Weber.

The Afghan entered Hesse in April 2016 as an unaccompanied underage refugee. He had been living in Neustadt an der Weinstraße (Rhineland-Palatinate) in a group accommodation with three other youths since September 2017. He already had a record with the police for an altercation at the school yard.

The Bleating Heart of the Mainstream Media

OR:

The Washington Post is being tossed into the dustbin of history. Here’s why.

When I was checking the news this morning, I happened across an article in The Washington Post by Joshua Partlow entitled “Guatemala and Honduras sided with Trump on Jerusalem. Here’s why.”

Before proceeding any further about this piece of “journalism”, I must emphasize that this is not about the content of the article. There will be no discussion of the UN vote, nor any argument about the pros and cons of President Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

This is about the process of ostensible news reporting in The Washington Post and other esteemed outlets of the dying legacy media. How the news is selected, concocted, shaded, and spun to guide the public to opinions and conclusions that are considered correct by Those Who Know Better.

This is the first paragraph of Mr. Partlow’s article:

MEXICO CITY — Amid the roar of condemnation over the Trump administration’s stance on Jerusalem, there were bleats of support from far-flung corners of the world. [emphasis added]

This is a news story, mind you, not an op-ed. “News analysis” is probably the full description, but it’s not an opinion article. It’s supposed to contain facts, plus logical conclusions drawn directly from those facts. If this were actual journalism, the reporter’s feelings about the facts and conclusions would not be allowed to intrude into the flow of his prose. There would be no tendentious, loaded words inserted into the text to signal to the lumpenreader how he is supposed to feel about the opposing political positions described in the story.

Now let’s suppose The Washington Post were not published by an exquisitely Progressive outfit. Let’s imagine that it held the opposite opinions. And I don’t mean those held by The Washington Times, nor any other publication cranked out by what Matt Bracken calls “Conservative Inc.”, but truly dissenting opinions. Here’s an alternate version of that first paragraph using tendentious words weighted in the opposite direction:

MEXICO CITY — Amid the screeches of condemnation over the Trump administration’s stance on Jerusalem, there were resonant declarations of support from far-flung corners of the world.

This would give Joe Prole an entirely different message about which position he should be supporting.

And, as a refreshing change, here is the paragraph as it should be written, without any weighted vocabulary designed to push the reader in one direction or another. Just the facts, ma’am:
