Gates of Vienna News Feed 10/24/2016

A staggering 153,000 migrants have landed in Italy so far this year, up 10% from the already stratospheric number reached at this point last year. 12,000 new arrivals were rescued off the Italian coast over the past weekend.

In other news, Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Madura plans to meet with representatives of the opposition next Sunday. The meeting was brokered by Pope Francis in an attempt to avoid a political catastrophe which might turn Venezuela into a failed state.

Angela We Have Heard on High

The following video is excerpted from remarks made by German Chancellor Angela Merkel to members of her political party, the CDU (Christian Democrats). In it you’ll hear her hectoring her minions about the lack of Christmas carols at their events, and deprecating their musical skills.

Since when did Mrs. Merkel ever care about Christians, Christianity, or Christendom? Is there anything Christian about her except her party’s name? It’s a bizarre performance, but that’s from a foreigner’s perspective. Maybe if I understood the German context more deeply, it wouldn’t seem strange at all.

Many thanks to Nash Montana for the translation, and to Vlad Tepes for the subtitling:

Below are excerpts from an article on Tatjana Festerling’s Facebook page (and also on her website) in which she answers an article on N24 about Mrs. Merkel’s little speech at the CDU Party Convention. For clarity, with the translator’s help, I’ve broken out the text into quotes from N24 alternating with Ms. Festerling’s commentary.

Many thanks to Nash Montana for this translation, too:

Merkel gets laughs with these scurrilous suggestions

Sunday October 23

Merkel and her bankruptcy show — a commentary

N24:   “At the party convention Chancellor Merkel took a position on the basic values of her party, and sharply criticized the AfD.”
Festerling:   “Basic values” — whose values? Yours, Merkel? Or the conservative values of the CDU from long before it was transformed into a left “a*****e-party”? And by the way, YOU are really the last person who could have the right to “sharply criticize” a democratically legit party!
N24:   “The CDU, on the other hand, is a party that tries to offer solutions.”
Festerling:   Ha ha ha, that’s a good one! Many thanks, but we have had enough with your solutions, or better, with your Final Solution for Germany and Europe!
N24:   “Looking at the AfD which sees anti-constitutional values in Islam, Merkel said: “I know that there are worries about Islam. But it is up to the people to meet these worries with the fostering of Christian traditions.”
Festerling:   Noooo, the “Umvolkerin” [woman who exchanges one population with another] tries to wiggle out of her responsibility? Until yesterday it SHE was the one who preached “We Can Do That”, and now suddenly she says “WE have to do that”, WE have to meet Islam through the fostering of traditions? Tell me Merkel, do you have a screw loose?

But then it gets even more grotesque.

N24:   “She suggested to copy song notes and to find someone who can play the recorder. Merkel said, Yeah, I am being serious, otherwise we’ll lose a piece of our homeland!”
Festerling:   Right, Merkel, let’s all go and find our recorders and then we can pipe a song to the Islamic occupiers, rapists and terrorists that you invited! May we add Margot Kässmann [progressive former head of the Evangelical Church in Germany] and her love-whispers for the boys from the Islamic State? And then, problem solved? In your naïve child’s world?

And which church should Germans go to, please? The one of the Socialists such as Bedford-Strohm [Heinrich Bedford-Strohm, Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria, advocate for refugees] or Margot Kässmann? Or the one with Wölki [Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki, the Archbishop of Cologne, advocate for refugees] and his refugee boat?

It is just incomprehensible the fatuous way this chancellor is showcasing her complete bankruptcy. One doesn’t even want to imagine how this naïve old broad was ripped off in her nightly Greece-rescue runs. Only to then mime being a stateswoman the next day. The beneficiaries could hardly believe their luck to get so much stupidity and treason.

Viktor Orbán: We Were a Bone Stuck in the Craw of the Soviet Empire

Today (yesterday, actually, unless you’re on the West Coast or in Hawaii) was the 60th anniversary of the 1956 uprising against the Soviet occupation of Hungary. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Polish President Andrzej Duda commemorated the occasion in Kossuth Square in Budapest. Below is a subtitled video of their speeches.

When you hear Mr. Orbán mention “the executed prime minister”, he is referring to Imre Nagy, who was deposed by the Soviets and executed two years later. When Mr. Orbán is heckled by leftists in the crowd, he refers to them as the “devil coming back to whistle” — i.e. the Communist devil.

French police are preparing to dismantle the notorious “Jungle” migrant camp near Calais. In anticipation of their eviction, the residents of the shantytown have started rioting and burning things.

In other migration news, the Italian coast guard has rescued 2,400 migrants in a single day. It also pulled fourteen bodies from the ocean.

Hungarians Fleeing Communism, Muslim Migrants — SAME THING!

Today is the 60th anniversary of the Hungarian uprising against the Soviet occupation. The bien-pensants of the progressive media have taken the opportunity to draw false analogies between Hungarians who fled the Soviet tanks and the third-world “refugees” now inundating Europe.

Many thanks to CrossWare for translating this article from 888.hu:

This is how they try to wash ’56 together with the migration in the Western media

by Gábor Nagy

Two interesting articles were published about the occasion of Hungarian revolution’s 60. anniversary.

On October 1, Thomson Reuters published an article entitled:

“Once asylum beneficiaries in 1956, Hungarians now reject migrants”

The writing tunes up with this: Sixty years ago, running from Soviet tanks and retribution, more than 200,000 Hungarians, — many of them woman and children [real children! — translator] — ran towards the western border to enter Austria. The Hungarians were housed in refugee camps until they received permission to enter the Western world. The refugees of ’56 then quickly found new homes, enjoying the goodwill of accepting nations.

Once the article established the mood, it switched into its primary statement: today in Hungary they all forget about this act of mercy, because Viktor Orbán now talks about how this unprecedented migration wave is Europe’s largest enemy since the Second World War, and the Hungarian prime minister suggests that Europe should close its borders in the same way that Hungary did in 2015.

The writer of the article on the quota referendum asks a ’56 refugee, who says he did not participate in the referendum because he was once a refugee, and he finds this disgusting. Marta Pardavi, an expert for the Helsinki Committee, argued in the publication that events of October and November of 1956 were the first real test of the Geneva Conventions, from the refugees’ point of view, and those rules are still active.

A similar analogy is built into Time article:

Mujahideen Are Proliferating at the Roissy Airport

The following article about the antics of Salafists at the Charles de Gaulle Airport near Paris was translated by Ava Lon from a photo of a French newspaper page, with no online text available:

The hunt for bearded ones opened at Air France

Hellish puzzle for the company: how to monitor thousands of subcontractors and agents and how to interpret incidents, technical errors, bad jokes, provocations or threats?

Discrimination or the precautionary principle? On 4 October, the tribunal was supposed to pronounce a verdict in a dispute between Air France and two of its employees. These are challenging the decision of the employer, who withdrew their access to facilities classified “secret defense”. The invoked reason: they are Salafi Muslims and have family members who are particularly radical.

“This is a preventive action, explained an intelligence official. Currently in the group, a dozen people are under surveillance.” And he clarifies: “Regarding Air France, we found several anomalies before the departure of several commercial flights. They are akin to sabotage.” For the company, nothing alarming, however: “Our personnel and our clients are absolutely safe,” assures the management of the group. “We work very closely with the intelligence services.” Thank goodness!

A flight without return

Even so, commanders have repeatedly found that the “motor relay”, which is supposed to control the engines from the cockpit, showed damage. Fortunately, during the checklist the alarm worked. And each time, the “anomaly” was detected. Alerted by Air France, which, like all large transport companies, has an “operational threat watch” unit, the intelligence services conducted their investigation and quickly identified a suspect: an employee of Air France, a French convert, who took to his heels as soon as he felt watched. At last report, the man was located in Yemen. When they didn’t hear from their employee, the airline dismissed him for dereliction of duty. Good heavens!

However, the fugitive, whose wife continues to lead a Koranic school near Orly [close to the Paris airport], still has a few friends on the tarmac. Two of them are suspected of tampering with several evacuation slides for the Air France aircraft in a maintenance workshop. Faulty equipment which, fortunately, was never installed. Absent evidence against them, the two employees were not fired. They were just moved to less sensitive posts “in the name of the precautionary principle,” acknowledges the group leader. Another scare caused him a complaint from the company. It is true that finding a tag (“Allahu Akhbar”) on kerosene filling hatches can cause a bit of anxiety. Especially since nearly forty devices were so tagged. A dubious joke, which actually led a captain to assert his “withdrawal right”. The passengers were disembarked and the plane remained grounded.

Cop squadron

The monitoring of suspicious individuals obviously concerned not only Air France. “The problem is the airport hub at Roissy,” said an intelligence officer. “We’re faced with an infiltration strategy, and we have to monitor 90,000 employees in 900 companies! The task is considerable.” Especially with limited staff. Since the spring, at the urging of the prefect responsible for airport security, thirty cops from Parisian Intelligence and customs officers flew to the rescue of ten officials of the Directorate General of Internal Security (ISB) already stationed at Roissy.

The Blackguard Press Versus Donald Trump

Many thanks to JLH for translating this European perspective on the American election from Politically Incorrect:

The Blackguard Press Versus Donald Trump

The German press is no longer the Lügenpresse (Lying Press). The expression is far too weak. No, it is a one-sided, cheap and primitive Lumpenpresse (Scoundrel Press). Whoever looks at the undiluted lying essays of the media against Donald Trump in the last year cannot but become sick. Even the headlines are enough. As little as an undone button can demonstrate how disgusting Trump is. On the other hand, there is an intense desire to see Hillary — stuffed full of pills and Botox — at the atomic button. With this woman — her sick ambition and inferiority complex — we will most likely to find ourselves in World War III and across the Jordan, before the yellow press can even say Oh.

If we look at the third TV debate, we read in the scoundrel press:

Trump is an axe to democracy (Tagesspiegel), Trump is breaking with American democracy (Tagesspiegel), Trump breaks a taboo (Süddeutsche), The final failure of a know-it-all (Welt), Trump, the banana Republican (Tagesschau), Hillary Clinton-Donald Trump: the successful one and the beast (Zeit), America is speechless (Stern), Why Trump is the most incompetent candidate in 100 years (Berliner Morgenpost)!

And so forth. What brought this on was Trump’s saying he would first want to see the election results. That was why they were announcing the end of democracy. Outrageous! Outrageous!

Here (is a reference to) the former vice-president Al Gore saying the same thing in the year 2000! And here just a week ago, that he had won in 2000, and Hillary nodding in agreement.! Here, in 2000, Hillary said that President Bush had not been elected. In 2015, Kerry said that Bush had manipulated the election! And so forth. Did that get any of the lying journalists excited? 70 percent of Americans fear that the election could be manipulated.

A man wearing a “killer clown” mask scared residents of a village in Cambodia by acting in a threatening manner. They eventually banded together and chased the scary clown into the jungle. After he disappeared from view, the villagers heard a loud explosion. When they went to investigate, they discovered that the now-deceased clown had stepped on a land mine.

In other news, Muslims in Rome protested the shutting-down of unauthorized mosques by holding a mass street prayer adjacent to the Coliseum.

When Raping a 10-Year-Old Boy Isn’t “Rape”

The following article bears some resemblance to the Swedish case reported here a couple of days ago. However, this one is not quite so insane — the “Swedish” perps were released and subsequently sued the state, whereas this New Austrian rascal will remain in custody until his case is retried in the lower court.

But it’s still lunacy. Here in the USA, if a rape victim is underage, he can’t possibly consent, so the issue of consent (or its lack) would never be brought before the court. In this benighted backwater, any sex with a child is rape, period. But Austria is a strange country; they do things differently there.

Many thanks to Nash Montana for translating this article from ORF:

Rape at indoor swimming pool: verdict nullified

The rape trial against a refugee from Iraq who allegedly sexually molested and raped a ten-year-old boy at the Theresienbad in Vienna has to be repeated.

On Thursday the high court (OGH) partly nullified the first judgment — six years in prison — and ordered a new trial. It was decided there were flaws in the initial discovery, Senate President Thomas Phillipp explained.

OGH says rape was not sufficiently proven

While the verdict in regards to severe sexual abuse of a minor were “airtight” — the guilty verdict was confirmed by the OGH in that point and is therefore legally valid — the required finding was not necessarily made that showed evidence of legally defined rape.

According to the OGH, the court should have determined if the offender thought that the victim had given his consent to sexual activity. In other words, if the accused had shown intent to act against the will of the boy. This intent was not sufficiently shown; therefore the OGH nullified the guilty verdict for rape.

The actual rape therefore will be debated separately at the county [local] court. According to the law, the punishment will be nullified, and therefore after the second court process — which will probably not take place before 2017 — the 20-year-old will receive a new sentence. The offender will remain in detention until then.

A Long Farewell to Germany

More than six years ago Thilo Sarrazin, then a member of the board of the Bundesbank in Germany, gained notoriety when he published a book entitled Deutschland schafft sich ab — Wie wir unser Land aufs Spiel setzen (“Abolishing Germany — How we’re putting our country in jeopardy”). Mr. Sarrazin was reviled for his attempts to warn his fellow countrymen of what lay ahead. He was shamed and shunned by the German Gutmenschen. He lost his position on the board of the bank and was nearly expelled from the Social Democratic Party.

Since then Mr. Sarrazin’s warnings have gone unheeded by German policymakers. The flow of the “replacement population” into the country has accelerated dramatically over the past two years. Many observers now believe that the destruction of the Germans as a people and a nation is irreversible.

One of those observers is the author of this essay from Die Freiheitswelle, which is based on a Facebook post. Many thanks to JLH for the translation:

The Long Farewell

October 19, 2016

I was traveling. Among other places, in the Hungarian capital, Budapest, which, according to the representations of the leftist, German, smear press, must be the vestibule of Hell, crushed in the claws of a misanthropic demon.

Of course, it is not.

It is lovely. Relaxed, both peaceful and seductive. Good, strong wine and beautiful women — straight-backed and with mile-high cheekbones and cobalt black hair.

But I digress.

I cried when I was there, which has not happened for a long time, because I saw, and understood better than ever before, what we — I mean the people in the North and West of Europe which is falling into the abyss — have lost beyond recall.

Sovereignty, security, presence.

And yes, pride — justifiable pride.

I came back to a district, a city, a country where I am myself the de facto alien.

Where it is not advisable to be on the streets after dark in a typical “socially weak” (euphemism for “conquered”) district of a typical metropolis.

Where the knees of the ever-present 80% majority of “good people” are raw from worshipping what is alien.

Where even the president, who finds every people on earth more beautiful and worthy than his own, can envision the representative of a civilization-hostile faith as his successor[1].

Where the glitzy limousines of the never-changing clientele are pulled up on the sidewalk in front of the hookah bars, and it is clear what would happen to anyone who was stupid enough to complain about it.

Where hardly any offense is taken when once-conservative newspapers ridicule people who think as I do, who are then ridiculed again in social media by the devoted followers of Merkel (for of course every invasion has its lickspittles and guard dogs).

Where the children and grandchildren of those who have made this land great are now in the truest sense of the word an endangered species.

Where it becomes increasingly more obvious who the new masters in the land are, and who is paying tribute to them, either insipidly and spinelessly, or in over-eager, fawning enthusiasm about the transcendent experience of self-immolation.

Philippe de Villiers is a French author, historian, and former politician. He is an anomaly in Modern Multicultural France: an intellectual who is also a conservative Catholic. Atheism is the only faith that is considered acceptable by the French intellectual establishment.

The following interview with Mr. de Villiers was conducted recently by the French commercial radio network RTL on the occasion of the publication of his new book. Many thanks to Ava Lon for the translation, and to Vlad Tepes for the subtitling:
