Gates of Vienna News Feed 7/15/2016

The big news of the day is that the Turkish military attempted to oust President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a coup. Mr. Erdogan communicated with his followers by iPhone and skype from an undisclosed location, telling them to take to the streets to resist the coup, which they did. A number of explosions were heard in Ankara and Istanbul, including air strikes on the parliament building. There were reports that Mr. Erdogan attempted to leave the country, but was denied permission to land in Germany. Forces loyal to the president eventually got the situation under control (at least for now), and he returned to Istanbul where he was greeted by ecstatic followers.

In other news, the statistical bureau of the German government reports that Germany took in a record two million migrants last year.

Antivirus Products Could Let Hackers Hijack Computers

Symantec and Norton are among the most popular security tools, but the U.S. Department of Homeland Security warns of critical flaws that could pose great risks.

A slew of corporate, government and personal computers are protected by Symantec, but are they really protected? Homeland Security believes there’s reason to worry, and has issued a warning this week.

“Symantec and Norton branded antivirus products contain multiple vulnerabilities. Some of these products are in widespread use throughout government and industry,” notes the alert. “Exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow a remote attacker to take control of an affected system.”

Dem Knives Come Out for Pence Pick, Moments After Trump Tweet

Donald Trump’s tweet announcing his running mate was not even moments old when the Democrats’ knives came out to attack Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as “extreme” and “divisive” — and unload their opposition research.

Almost immediately after Trump named Pence, Hillary Clinton’s campaign blasted out an email Friday calling him “the most extreme VP pick in a generation.”

Clinton’s campaign outlined its talking points against the governor, pointing specifically to his record on LGBT and abortion rights, as well as his free-market economic policies.

Obama’s Agenda of Anarchy

We must remember that we’ve seen this type of “orchestrated chaos” before, specifically in the late 1960s during the radicalization of students and young people across college campuses. Protests, sit-ins, and armed takeovers of campus offices by the radical left were increasing and blamed, in part, on the Vietnam War. Other reasons existed as well, including many of the same anti-Capitalist, anti-American sentiments we are seeing today.

Some of the very same protesters involved in the street-level take-overs are, or have been in power under Obama. Eric Holder, for example, participated in the armed take-over of the former Columbia University ROTC office for 5 days in 1970. Holder served as Obama’s Attorney General from February 3, 2009 through April 27, 2015, replaced by Loretta Lynch.

Other members of Obama’s inner circle played important roles to varying degrees, including advisors, during his fundamental changing of the United States, including Bill Ayers and Ayers’ wife, Bernardine Dohrn, a self-described “revolutionary communist.” The list of individuals is lengthy. The pretexts differ, but the anarchy playbooks have been modified only to make the best use of social media, which provides more effective avenues of communication and organization.

Many of these street-level protesters and the foot soldiers of these radical Leftist groups have infiltrated government and academic institutions since the 1970s. We are now paying the price, in terms of bodies and real human blood, for allowing this infiltration to occur under the guise of social tolerance and enlightenment.

Plan to Sabotage Trump at the RNC Rules Committee

There are three people heading up the RNC and Trump campaign in Nevada. It appears as though these three were in cahoots to sabotage the Trump campaign in that state. Let’s take a closer look.

Nevada Shenanigans

In Part 2 of this article, we discussed Bruce Ash, and Linda Brickman, members of the RNC Rules Committee from Arizona. Both Arizona and Nevada are headed by Trump campaign manager, Charles Munoz.

In Nevada, Jordan Ross is one of the two Rules Committee members. Diana Orrock is the other Rules Committee member and has always been a Trump supporter.

State Campaign Manager Charles Munoz, Chairman of the Nevada Republican Party, Michael McDonald, and Jordan Ross worked closely together. According to Trump campaign volunteers, these three people actually worked against the campaign…

Utah Rules Committee Members

Surprise, surprise! The Rules Committee members from Utah are Senator Mike Lee and his wife, Sharon Lee. Both are Cruz supporters, and Mike Lee also supports legislation that will bring more Muslims into America. No wonder he is anti-Trump!

In January of 2015, a handful of Senators quietly introduced new legislation in Congress that would allow for virtually unlimited Muslim immigration into the United States — lifting caps entirely on several categories of visas favored by immigrants from Muslim countries. The Mark Zuckerberg-backed legislation, S.153, is called the Immigration Innovation Act (or I-Squared). [Link]

Police Kill Gunman After He Fires on Officers in West Baltimore — Baltimore Sun

Police killed a gunman who they said opened fire on officers with an AR-15-style rifle.

A gunman with an AR-15-style rifle opened fire on four plainclothes police officers in an unmarked car Thursday night in West Baltimore, police said.

Two of the officers shot back and killed the man outside apartments on Winchester Street in Bridgeview-Greenlawn.

The officers were drawn to the apartments on the 2300 block by reports of gunfire. Police said the man was shooting before they arrived about 9:30 p.m., then turned his rifle on the officers.

Into Friday morning, police were investigating whether the tactic was an attempt to lure police. The officers weren’t injured, and no other victims were found.

“Why he was firing initially? Who he was firing at? That’s something we don’t have the answer to,” said T.J. Smith, a police spokesman…

Trump Winery Succeeds Despite Sour Political Climate

In politics, there is always a lot of whining and sour grapes.

But you won’t find any of that at Trump Winery in Albemarle County.

In fact, since the vineyard’s namesake — billionaire businessman and TV celebrity Donald Trump — announced his run for president a year ago, the wine business, owned independently and run by his son Eric, has exceeded expectations in the tasting room and the boardroom.

“We’ve seen enormous growth,” said Kerry Woolard, the general manager of Trump Winery. “Every primary, we continued to see huge spikes.”

The increased interest driven by Trump and his candidacy has helped the winery find distribution in 26 states and four countries: Canada, Panama, India and Scotland. Plans are in the works to distribute to more states and in Ireland and Dubai…

EU Boss Says Britain’s EU Exit Must be Painful to Serve as a Warning to Other Nations

DESPERATE Donald Tusk has said the EU must NOT let Britain profit from leaving the crumbling bloc as it could inspire other states to follow suit.

The president of the European Council said it would be “lethal” to let the UK walk away scot-free as he attempts to avoid a domino effect across the continent in the wake of Brexit.

Mr Tusk took the tough stance amid upcoming negotiations following Britain’s sensational Leave vote.

He has already repeated warnings the UK will not have access to the single market without accepting the right of other EU nationals to move to the country.

Mr Tusk said: “No one should be seething with desire to punish, humiliate the British for what they have done to us.”

But if leaving the 28-country bloc was to become an attractive model of improving a country’s standing, then other countries would also consider doing so.

He added: “We cannot push them away from us, but we cannot let them profit from Brexit, as that would be lethal for the EU.”

European Commission Issues List Designed to Stop Spread of ‘Invasive’ Species

THE European Commission has come up with a policy that will be music to Brexit supporters’ ears: banishing border-jumping aliens forever.

A hit list of invasive culprits Brussels never wants to darken the borders of all 28 member states has been drawn up, and with a threat to “eradicate” those who slip through.

Yet any anti-EU campaigners hailing the end of the principles of free movement should take a breather.

The Commission’s relates to 37 species of animals and plants that threaten Europe’s native wildlife. …

“Several of the worst invasive species are still missing: notoriously the American mink, which is being bred in the tens of millions for the fur industry, and has brought the European mink close to extinction and is wreaking havoc on bird colonies.”

France: Saudi-Funded Mosque Opens in Nice After Long Struggle

Nice (France) (AFP) — A Saudi-funded mosque in Nice opened its doors for the first time Saturday, after a 15-year tussle with the local town hall.

The Nicois En-nour Institute mosque received authorisation to open early Saturday from the local prefect, substituting for town mayor Philippe Pradal, who recently took over from Christian Estrosi.

Estrosi was implacably opposed to the construction of the mosque and in April had secured the green light to sue the French state in a bid to block its opening in the southern city.

He had accused the building’s owner, Saudi Arabia’s Islamic Affairs Minister Sheikh Saleh bin Abdulaziz, of “advocating sharia” and wanting to “destroy all of the churches on the Arabian peninsula”.

Estrosi, mayor since 2008, said that the project which was initiated under his predecessor in 2002 was unauthorised.

However the mosque’s opening was described as “a real joy,” by Ouassini Mebarek, lawyer and head of a local religious association.

“But there is no smug triumphalism,” he told AFP. “This is recognition of the law, and a right to freely practise one’s religion in France in accordance with the values of French Republic”.

French Lawmakers Told Bataclan Terrorists Tortured, Disemboweled Victims

A French government committee has heard testimony, suppressed by the French government at the time and not published online until this week, that the killers in the Bataclan tortured their victims on the second floor of the club.

The chief police witness in Parliament said that an investigating officer, tears streaming down his face, rushed out of the Bataclan and vomited in front of him just after seeing the disfigured bodies.

According to this testimony, Wahhabist killers apparently gouged out eyes, castrated victims, and shoved their testicles in their mouths. They may also have disemboweled some poor souls. Women were stabbed in the genitals — and the torture was, victims told police, filmed for Daesh or Islamic State propaganda. For that reason, medics did not release the bodies of torture victims to the families, investigators said.

Attempted Military Coup Underway in Turkey

Turkey’s military announced on Friday night that army had taken over “the entire management of the country to restore rule of law” as the country’s prime minister admitted an “attempt” by a group within the military while falling short of calling it a military coup.

Reuters, citing a witness, reported that gunshots were heard in Ankara shortly before 11 p.m. local time Friday.

As military helicopters flew over the entertainment hub of Beyoglu district in Istanbul, television aired footage of military tanks and TV stations reported Turkish state TV TRT had been taken over by military officials.

Turkey’s leaders said they have largely quelled an attempted military coup, after army officers claimed to have seized power in the country. Clashes persisted in major cities as tanks blockaded roads, soldiers fought with police and warplanes bombed the parliament in Ankara.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, by video link to a local TV station, said he’s still in charge of the country and urged the public to take to the streets and public squares in resistance. Mosques broadcast the same call from their minarets, and local television showed anti-coup crowds gathering in Istanbul, the largest city, and Ankara.

Turkish Military Says it Has Taken Over Country

The Turkish military claims to have “fully seized control” of the country amid reports that a bomb has struck parliament in Ankara.

Soldiers stormed Turkey’s state broadcaster TRT, forcing a presenter to read a statement live on air announcing that a military coup is under way.

The statement said the country, a NATO member, is now being run by a “peace council”. It declared that martial law and a nationwide curfew are in place.

Reports of aerial attacks, gunfire and explosions are emerging from Istanbul and the Turkish capital Ankara, with an unconfirmed report from the state-run Anadolu news agency suggesting that parliament in Ankara has been bombed.

Anadolu is also reporting that 17 police officers have been killed in a helicopter attack on their headquarters in Ankara.

Meanwhile, a Turkish F-16 fighter jet has reportedly shot down a military helicopter over Ankara.

Turkey’s leaders have confirmed that a coup “attempt” has taken place, but denied that the military is in control.

Prime Minister Binali Yildirim told the NTV broadcaster a no-fly zone has been declared over Ankara, insisting the “situation is largely under control”.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, meanwhile, called television statements from an unknown location to urge people to take to the streets in support of the government.

In an extraordinary interview, in which Mr Erdogan could be seen on a mobile phone held up by the presenter, the president said the uprising “attempt” was being run by a minority within the armed forces. He warned that they would be given the “necessary response”…

Italian Victims Tortured in Bangladesh Attack, Autopsies Show

Islamist militants tortured a group of Italians before killing them during an attack on a restaurant in the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka last week, a legal source said on Wednesday.

The bodies of the nine Italians, most of whom worked in the clothing industry, were flown back to Rome on Tuesday. Autopsies showed that many of them had been slashed with knives and had suffered slow deaths. Some had been mutilated, the source said.

In all, 20 people died in the Dhaka assault, which started late on Friday night. The victims, mostly foreigners, included Japanese, Indians and Americans as well as the Italians.

Islamic State said it was responsible for one of the most brazen attacks in Bangladesh’s history, posting pictures of the five men they said took part in the onslaught.

Officials said most of the militants had attended prestigious schools or universities in Dhaka and Malaysia. One was the son of a politician.

China Tells Japan to Stop Interfering in South China Sea

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang told Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Friday that his country should stop interfering and hyping up the South China Sea issue, as the dispute took center stage at a key regional summit in Mongolia.

China has refused to recognize Tuesday’s ruling by an arbitration court in The Hague invalidating China’s vast claims in the South China Sea and did not take part in the proceedings. It has reacted angrily to calls by Western countries and Japan for the decision to be adhered to.

Meeting in the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar, Li told Abe that China’s stance on the South China Sea was completely in line with international law, state news agency Xinhua reported.

“Japan is not a state directly involved in the South China Sea issue, and thus should exercise caution in its own words and deeds, and stop hyping up and interfering”, Li said, according to Xinhua.

Report: Protests in Venezuela Up 24 Percent; Most Over Food

CARACAS, Venezuela, July 14 (UPI) — There has been a 24 percent increase in protests — roughly 19 demonstrations a day — throughout Venezuela in which six people have died in the first half of 2016 when compared to last year, according to a report by the Venezuelan Observatory of Social Conflict.

The local non-governmental organization on Wednesday reported 3,057 protests have been recorded in Venezuela within the first six months of 2016. The figure does not include 416 incidents of looting or attempted looting nationwide.

About 27 percent of protests in the first part of 2016 were related to food shortages. The Venezuelan Observatory of Social Conflict, or OVCS, said the six deaths occurred during protests over food.

“In these six months the Venezuelan streets have been the scene of many massive demonstrations to demand the human right to food,” the OVCS writes in the report. “The government’s response to these protests has been repression.”

About 24 percent of protests were to “demand basic services in residential dwellings,” the OVCS said. Water shortages, electricity blackouts, and little to no Internet or phone services have affected millions of Venezuelans…

New Record: Over 2 Million Migrated to Germany in 2015

Last year saw the highest level of inward migration in German history. Thanks partly to the refugee influx, more than two million people moved to the Bundesrepublik in 2015.

Figures released by the government’s statistics agency (Destatis) on Thursday show that more than 2.1 million people migrated to Germany in 2015, an increase of 672,000 or 46 percent on the previous year.

It was also a bumper year for outward migration, with just under one million people packing their bags and saying auf Wiedersehen to the Bundesrepublik, a 9 percent increase on 2014.

Overall Germany received a boost of more than 1.1 million people to its population through migration — a new historical record.

The overwhelming majority (94 percent) of those who moved to Germany were foreigners, rather than Germans moving back home. Of the 998,000 who left Germany in 2015, 859,000 held foreign passports.

Did We Lose the Culture War?

By Servando Gonzalez

After the fall of the Soviet Union, the Russians finally realized that they had been given the short end of the stick and began fighting their new oppressors, the IMF, World Bank and transnational corporations.[1] Angered by their reaction, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry (CFR) told them: “You lost the Cold War. Get Over It.”

In a similar fashion, Harvard Professor Mark Tushnet recently posted in his blog an entry entitled “Abandoning Defensive Crouch Liberal Constitutionalism,” in which he claims that we, the American people, have lost the culture war, and advises the winners to give us the same treatment given to the Germans and Japanese after they lost WWII.[2]

In his post, Professor Tushnet defines what he calls “Defensive Crouch Liberal Constitutionalism” as a way of acting in which “every liberal position asserted nervously, its proponents looking over their shoulders for retaliation by conservatives (in its elevated forms, fear of a backlash against aggressively liberal positions)”[3] In his arrogance, however, Kerry forgot that the Russians had defeated the Nazis in WWII and the fool professor apparently has forgotten that, contrary to the Germans and the Japanese after WWII, the Americans he claims have lost the culture war own millions of firearms and are ready to use them. He also forgot Mao’s dictum that power comes out of the barrel of a gun…

What we are currently experiencing is the final steps of a long, protracted war against the American people. It began a century ago in Woodrow Wilson’s era, or perhaps even before, when the battleship Maine was mysteriously blown up in Havana’s bay, and this war has not abated. This is not a conventional war waged with tanks, battleships and planes in conventional battlefields — at least not yet.

It is a secret, insidious type of war whose main battleground is the people’s minds. Its main weapons are propaganda and mass brainwashing mostly by using disinformation, deception and lies on a large scale not used against the people of a nation since the end of Nazi Germany. Though important, those elements are just part of a series of carefully planned and executed long and short-term psychological warfare operations.

The reason why the CFR conspirators have resorted to defeat the American people using a much more devious form of war, a PsyWar, is because Americans love freedom and are armed to the teeth to defend their freedom.[5]

Now, what is a PsyWar? According to the U.S. Army’s Joint Strategic Plans Committee, August 2, 1948,

When the Church Goes Bad

A lesbian bishop in Sweden made news recently by proposing that a seamen’s mission church in Stockholm remove its cross and other Christian symbols so it could become some kind of “interfaith” prayer room catering to Muslims. I wonder what St. Paul would have thought of a lesbian bishop baldly practicing her sin without a trace of repentance and with the full approval of her church.

The alleged bishop called Muslims “angels,” and so made it clear to the world why the Stockholm Syndrome is called the Stockholm Syndrome. Happily, this particular church is not included in her diocese, so she has no power to force them to take down the cross. But she would if she could.

Here at home, the Presbyterian Church USA, at its annual wing-ding last month, called in a Muslim imam to lead the church delegates in a prayer to Allah, the Muslim deity. Naturally, such a prayer could not be offered up in Jesus’ name. To do that, the PCUSA reasoned, would be an offense to Islam. As to any possible offense to Jesus Christ, the Lord of Lords, the PCUSA is silent.

We’ve seen this pattern before, in both America and Europe: the self-inflicted death of churches.

First the church ordains women to teach and preach. There seems to be no objective reason why this should be wrong, other than that it goes against Paul’s instructions to the early Christian churches-but it rarely turns out as hoped. At any rate, this is usually the first step toward a church’s failure.

  1. It’s a shame we didn’t see Cerdogan fully ousted today… hopefully the remnants of the Turkish Army loyal to the Constitution and Secular Republic will gather their forces and finish the job before it’s too late.

  2. I hope your friend’s daughter in Izmir you warned a couple of months back is okay and packing her bags now.

  3. For a story in the “If only” category, you’d be hard to go past the almost coup in Turkey. PM Erdogan appeared to be heading for the long overdue comeuppance. Sadly he appears to have retained power and now will work hard to strengthen his hold on the country. Purges in the military of secularist die hards, arrest of anyone else he doesn’t like. Nothing worse than an offended wannabe dictator. I afraid Turkey is now heading like a runaway train towards an Islamic State, with it’s Emir, well you know who.

      • Even if Erdogan comes out tomorrow with mass public execution of opposition and declares sharia law from now on, EU will not change the decision about Turkey. They don’t give [rodent’s fundament] about human rights or free speech. All they need is to bring all those muslims to Europe NOW.

  4. After the end of the Vietnam War, progressives changed tactics. Full frontal assault against what they called the establishment moved to a more indirect and long term approach. The goal was to undermine from within. Many went into the academy to influence education. Others went into the mainstream churches seeking leadership roles. Increasing membership was never part of the plan. In fact, promotion of a secular agenda effectively drove true believing Christians from the rolls. From the progressive perspective, this was a positive development. Dwindling membership facilitates control of the tax exempt stock and other asset portfolios, which can then be used to further the progressive (political) agenda.

    • I am certain you are exactly right. I may add that some changes may have begun more circumspectly some years earlier. I am told that Norman Thomas was a Presbyterian minister. He is the one who I believe spoke for gradual change until it was too late for people to realize and oppose it. His words were different from my paraphrase, of course.

Thank you for an obvious idea that I had failed to think of. It had not quite gotten through to me why churches so often do not seem to care if they lose membership.

  5. Well, after this inferior attempt of a Coup d`Etat Erdogan is stronger then ever.
    Just at the right time.
And allready there are over two thousand turkish judges being arrested.
Many more citizens are sure to follow – of course all of them dangerous enemies of the state and government.

    • Onwards and upwards to a full-blown dictatorship. Erdogan couldn’t have had a better result if he’d planned it himself. Ahem.

      • False flag makes perfect sense for Erdo to consolidate his power, reinstate the death penalty and use it with impugnity. Indeed, Incirlik, the US base, has been hijacked by Erdo’s regime and that includes scores of US nuclear warheads. GatesOfVienna – more articles on this Turkish False Flag, please.

        • I don’t know enough — I’m not an expert on the topic, nor on NATO. We need someone like Claire Berlinski.

  6. “New Record: Over 2 Million Migrated to Germany in 2015”

One has also to take into consideration, that while its true that Germany has a huge population.
They still dont have Millions over Millions of young german people (and there are even fewer girls and women in this age group).

While most of the muslim migrants are young men (after a few years with the legal right to bring their family members to Germany, and a much higher birth rate).
And while the percentage of young ethnic germans will decrease even further, many more young muslims will come to Germany.
And all of this is also true for Austria, Sweden and some other european countries.

      • Which is why the bumptious Donald Trump has such wide appeal: he wants to make his own country “great again”. Thus he hits the bulls-eye for sane people…I can imagine other populists/nationalists, e.g., Le Pen or Wilders or Orban, saying such a thing. Ms. May in the UK, not so much.

  7. As any high rank military officer could confirm, an invasion and a military takeover of the government are similar in both objectives and methods. In order for them to be successful, the attackers rely on SPEED and SURPRISE, with initial action targeting the commanders and the backbone structure of the country. Speed is accomplished by neutralizing the government and incapacitating all communication and defensive resources at the same time, while surprise… well, the opposite of public show. Early morning before dawn with maximum four hours until the country is decapitated and the main invasion can begin, or in the case of a coup, until the change can be announced to the public and the martial law can be effectively declared. Obviously, it is necessary to keep the defensive response to a minimum, without raising the alarm among the populace.

A Friday evening with people celebrating the weekend may be good for a mass murder, but is a bad choice for “a faction of the military” with few resources and going against other security forces fully active at that hour. Wasting these few resources and military personnel to block the bridges and drive a couple of tanks around the street corners while one helicopter opens fire over some empty buildings?…

Browsing through the tweets from Friday evening, one can notice that local people were already aware that a military coup is “about to happen” and checked their watches just before the show started. One person from the television described how the staff has been herded out of the studio and when the person asked the soldiers to release them and go away, they just smiled, while somewhere else on the streets one soldier responded that he thought it was an exercise.

There is no coherence in what happened on Friday evening and one can hardly call this a military coup. Soldiers being swarmed by angry mobs while the martial law supposedly was in effect? Soldiers exiting the safety of their armored vehicles (tanks) and surrender to constables and civilians (Erdogan’s warriors) on the street? This is plain stupid.

Whether a real attempt or a false flag of the Sultan himself, those boys have been tricked and lightly drugged to commit such suicidal acts. Even as an exercise, it was poorly executed. By members of an army that only a few months back showed their teeth to Russia, hmmm…

Today, everything is clear. The Sultan is calling for capital punishment against his internal enemies and demands the fugitives to be handed over. A strong grip will follow and the new ottoman empire will rise like a beast from this baklava revolution.‎

  8. OT but related to Turkey coup…reports suggest …

Erdogan’s hotel room was bombed, but Erdogan was not in it.

Odd there are no photos of this hotel after the alleged bombing. Here’s what is reported thus far:
Erdogan says his hotel on Turkey’s Aegean coast bombed after he left

ANKARA (AFP, REUTERS) – Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday (July 16) that his hotel on Turkey’s Aegean coast was bombed after he left, hours after the armed forces attempted to overthrow him.

Reuters: Turkish forces thwart coup against Erdogan after crowds rally

Erdogan, who had been holidaying on the southwest coast when the coup was launched, flew into Istanbul before dawn on Saturday and told thousands of flag-waving supporters at the airport that the government remained at the helm.
A polarising figure whose Islamist-rooted ideology lies at odds with supporters of modern Turkey’s secular principles, Erdogan said the plotters had tried to attack him in the resort town of Marmaris.
“They bombed places I had departed from right after I was gone,” he said. “They probably thought we were still there.”

Chaos Unfolds As Attempted Military Coup D’Etat Grips Turkey [UPDATING]

A BOMB DESTROYED the Marmaris hotel he was vacationing in, on the Aegean coast, just after he left, Erdogan is reported to have said from his press conference at Istanbul’s main airport.

The president said rebels TRIED TO BOMB his hotel in the southwestern resort of Marmaris. There was also a gunfight there between soldiers and pro-government police after he had left. Within 20 minutes of the coup broadcast, Prime Minister …

“He was staying at the GRAND YAZICI MARMARIS HOTEL that after midnight Saturday WAS ATTACKED WITH HEAVY WEAPONS FROM LAND AND HELICOPTERS, according to a report by the state-run Anadolu news agency.

0856 – Sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, say pro-coup soldiers, who TRIED TO ATTACK GRAND YAZICI MARMARIS HOTEL in the southwestern city of Muğla, have fled the area. Erdogan had left the hotel hours earlier.

NZNews: Turkey in turmoil: Witnesses tell of falling bombs, mass casualties
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his hotel in the Aegean coast resort of Marmaris, where he was staying while on holiday, had been bombed after his departure for Istanbul, Al Jazeera has reported.

The attack started with heavy gunfire from at least two helicopters. The hotel then came under siege from masked gunmen.

Five police officers have been wounded as a result of the attack on Yazici Grand Mares hotel, the state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

WHERE ARE THE PHOTOS CONFIRMING THE GRAND YAZICI MARMARIS HOTEL WAS BOMBED &/or DESTROYED – images which would bring some credibility to the claims that Erdogan was not behind this alleged “coup”.

  9. State-owned agency is quoting the Sultan. There is no picture available because it is a lie. From “bombed” to “attempted” to “bomb placed” it is all a big lie. As was this whole incident which I do not consider even remotely a military coup d’etat. From initial statements that “it’s a minor military faction” the Sultan decapitated both chiefs of second and third armies and another high commander of the first army. Turkey having three army corps, it means these conspirators should have had under their full command more than two thirds (7/9 to be exact) of the entire Turkish army personnel and equipment, second among European NATO members. And yet the cast consisted of a few tanks, a helicopter, and some platoons holding “key positions in Istanbul: the bridge(s) over Bosphorus and Taxim market,” as authorities declared yesterday. Are they kidding?! And they still call this muppet show “a military coup”?! I don’t take this even with a kg of salt.

  10. Considering the news out of Turkey yesterday and today ,countless people would probably have prefered ” Erdo-gone….”
