Longtime readers are familiar with Magdi Allam, an Egyptian convert to Catholicism, who was one of the featured speakers at the 2012 Counterjihad Conference in Brussels. Rembrandt Clancy has translated a recent article by Mr. Allam on Italy’s fast-approaching demographic winter.

On 10 June 2016, ISTAT, Italy’s National Institute of Statistics, released a brief document called the National Demographic Balance (available in English). It summarises the current, general demographic trends in Italy as of 31 December 2015, numbers which are consistent with a Demographic Winter for Italy.

In the article below, Magdi Cristiano Allam, a convert from Islam to Christianity, summarises the data, understanding them as Italy’s principle problem.

About the Author

Magdi Cristiano Allam, a journalist, was born in Cairo in 1952 and is a naturalised Italian citizen who has been living in Italy since 1972.

Mr. Allam is best known outside of Italy for his highly publicised and controversial conversion to Catholicism which found political expression when Benedict XVI baptised him in St. Peter’s Basilica at the Easter vigil of 2008, thus offending neo-Catholics and Muslims alike. Only five years later he left the Church:

Dear friends. For the first time in 90 years, Italy is showing a significant drop in the number of residents. There is an overall negative balance of 130,061 units [people]. The reduction applies only to the Italian citizen population: there are 141,777 fewer residents, while the foreign population has increased by 11,716 units. The data was published in the National Demographic Balance of ISTAT.

There has been a continuing decline in births since 2008. In 2015, births constitute fewer than half a million, 17 thousand fewer than in 2014, of which 72,000 are foreign (14.8% of the total). Deaths exceeded 647,000, nearly 50,000 more than in 2014.

The natural change in population registered in the negative (births minus deaths) amounting to almost 162,000 units. The natural balance is positive for foreign citizens (almost 66,000 units), while for Italian residents the deficit is much more significant, amounting to 227,390 units. The ageing of the resident population continues, the mean age being 44.7 years.

Dear friends, with the disappearance of 227,000 Italians in one year, it is as if cities like Padua or Messina were all of a sudden to vanish. The demographic collapse of the Italians is our true, primary emergency. The powerful vested interests that are governing us in an authoritarian way — global speculative finance, the International Monetary Fund, the European Union and the very Church of Pope Francis — are promoting the replacement of the Italian population through a hybrid humanity, by supporting the auto-invasion of illegal aliens.

We must oppose the reality of demographic murder-suicide, the calamitous strategy for the euthanasia of our society that will result in the end of our civilization. We must act quickly!
