Gates of Vienna News Feed 1/9/2016

PEGIDA staged a demonstration in Cologne today to protest the failures of police and public officials in the wake of the Groping Jihad attacks on New Year’s Eve. 1,700 police were on hand to keep order. Tommy Robinson and Michael Mannheimer were among the speakers at the event. Some of the demonstrators — believed by many to be agents provocateurs — wore masks, which was against the rules, and clashed with police. As a result police shut down the event early and used a water cannon against the demonstrators.

In other news, French authorities have decided to make the migrant shanty camp near Calais known as “The Jungle” into a permanent facility. The government has allocated €25 million ($27.2 million) for a shelter with beds for 1,500 people.

Hillary’s Emailgate Goes Nuclear

Does the latest release of Hillary’s State Department emails include highly classified U.S. intelligence?

Back in October I told you that Hillary Clinton’s email troubles were anything but over, and that the scandal over her misuse of communications while she was Secretary of State was sure to get worse. Sure enough, EmailGate continues to be a thorn in the side of Hillary’s presidential campaign and may have just entered a new, potentially explosive phase with grave ramifications, both political and legal.

The latest court-ordered dump of her email, just placed online by the State Department, brings more troubles for Team Hillary. This release of over 3,000 pages includes 66 “Unclassified” messages that the State Department subsequently determined actually were classified; however, all but one of those 66 were deemed Confidential, the lowest classification level, while one was found to be Secret, bringing the total of Secret messages discovered so far to seven. In all, 1,340 Hillary emails at State have been reassessed as classified.

There are gems here. It’s hard to miss the irony of Hillary expressing surprise about a State Department staffer using personal email for work, which the Secretary of State noted in her own personal email. More consequential was Hillary’s ordering a staffer to send classified talking points for a coming meeting via a non-secure fax machine, stripped of their classification markings. This appears to be a clear violation of Federal law and the sort of thing that is a career-ender, or worse, for normals. The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee termed that July 2011 incident “disturbing,” and so it is to anyone acquainted with U.S. Government laws and regulations regarding the handling of classified material.

Muslim Convert ‘Who Beheaded Female Colleague at Oklahoma Food Plant’ To Stand Trial for First-Degree Murder

Judge ruled on Friday that Alton Nolen must stand trial on charges also including assault and battery with a deadly weapon

The man accused of beheading a co-worker with a large butcher knife at an Oklahoma food processing plant must stand trial for first-degree murder, a judge ruled on Friday.

The decision came following a hearing at which witnesses graphically described what they saw in the September 2014 attack.

Muslim convert Alton Nolen could face the death penalty if convicted in the rampage at the Vaughan Foods plant in Moore, an Oklahoma City suburb.

Cologne Sex Attacks: Two Suspects Arrested Had Videos on Phones of Assaults on Women

Police in Cologne arrest two men in connection with the sex attacks on women in Cologne on New Year’s Eve and confirm asylum seekers among suspects

Two men who have been arrested in Cologne in connection with a slew of sex attacks in the city had recordings on their phones of assaults against women.

According to reports, one of the men was carrying a note in German and Arabic with translations of phrases like “Beautiful breasts”, “I want to have sex with you” and “I’ll kill you”, according to police.

The series of attacks on New Year’s Eve has left Germany shocked.

The two men were described in local media as being from “immigrant background” and were arrested at the city’s railway station, close to where the attacks occurred.

Meanwhile, 18 asylum seekers were among those involved in the violence on New Year’s Eve in Cologne, the German interior ministry said on Friday.

At least 100 women have sought to file criminal complaints of sexual assault and robbery during the New Year’s Eve festivities in the German city, authorities said, including two accounts of rape.

‘Doggy Bag’ Law Comes Into Force in France

Long seen as an affront to dining etiquette, doggy bags may finally become an established part of eating out in France with restaurants across the country now legally obliged to provide them.

The new law, which came into effect on New Year’s Day, is part of a drive to cut down on the vast amount of food wastage seen in the country each year.

The French restaurant industry alone accounts for some one million tonnes of food waste annually, according to government figures…

Dutch ‘No’ To Kiev-EU Accord Could Trip Crisis: Juncker

European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker urged Dutch voters Saturday not to oppose an EU cooperation deal with Ukraine, saying such a move “could open the doors to a continental crisis”.

A citizens’ campaign in the Netherlands spearheaded by three strongly eurosceptic groups garnered more than 300,000 votes needed to trigger a non-binding referendum on the deal, three months from now.

Observers said the vote, set for April 6, pointed more towards broader euroscepticism among the Dutch than actual opposition to the trade deal with Kiev, which fosters deeper cooperation with Brussels…

Forget World War III: But Avoid These Three Conflicts — Italian Media

Although everyone is talking about a potential Third World War, the chance of that happening is pretty slim; instead, the world is currently facing three separate conflicts which could escalate and lead to several big wars across the world, political journalist Francesco Alberoni wrote for the Italian newspaper Il Giornale.

Humanity should worry about a world “filled with wars,” instead of a world with one big global war, akin to World War I and World War II. In the first half of the 20th Century when the world went through the chaos of the two major wars, countries were divided between two coalitions which fought against each other.

“[But] today we don’t see a similar clash between two hostile coalitions,” Alberoni said, as cited by Il Giornale.

Instead, right now, there are three conflicts which could lead to more wars.

One of them is a potential confrontation between Russia and the United States. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the United States feared that an economic union between Europe and Russia could undermine Washington’s global hegemony. To prevent this, the United States did everything it could do cut Europe’s ties with Russia, Alberoni argued.

US-Russia Cooperation Only Way to Defeat Islamic Extremism — Assad’s Cousin

The second potential conflict could be caused by the rise of revolutionary sentiments in the Islamic world. In many Muslim countries — from Afghanistan to Algeria — there has been the rise of radical Islamic movements that are seeking to return to the times when the armies of Muslim nations conquered the world, imposing Islam and Sharia Law to the whole world, including the West. According to the Italian journalist, the second military conflict could be caused by the rise of one of murderous groups, raging in the Philippines, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Libya and other countries.

And the last conflict is taking place within the Islamic world itself, a clash between Shiites and Sunnis. Major Sunni states — Saudi Arabia and Turkey — are in violent opposition against Iran and Shiites in Iraq and Syria. The current Sunni-Shiite conflict is currently being waged across Iraq, Syria and Yemen, Il Giornale said.

Where does Europe fit in this world? It’s simple: Europe follows Washington’s orders. If the United States says impose sanctions against Russia, the EU does it; when Washington orders the EU to take in all the refugees arriving from the Middle East and Africa — Europeans follow orders, Alberoni said.

Germany: Arrests as Police Clash With Protesters Following Cologne Sex Attacks

Police made a number of arrests and used a water cannon against protesters in Cologne after reports of mass sex attacks in the German city.

More than 100 women reported being threatened, robbed or molested in Cologne on New Year’s Eve, with at least one woman claiming to have been gang raped, by up to 1,000 men of “Arab or North African descent”.

Germany: Cologne Sex Attacks: ‘Something Terrible Took Place Here. But it’s as Though it Never Happened’

by Judith Woods, in Cologne

“I’m angry at what happened to the women of Cologne but I am also angry at the conspiracy of silence that has followed.”

Ilse, 32, looks searchingly around the city’s main square flanked on one side by the railway station and on the other by the city’s twin-towered Gothic cathedral.

On this crisp winter’s morning, it feels laughably far from the no-go area for women described by Cologne’s city councillor — far right activist Judith Wolter — earlier this week. A bustling thoroughfare, it is the very heart of this socially and politically liberal city, where couples wrapped up against the cold drink coffee at outdoor tables and groups of excited school children are led up the steps into the historic church.

Some pause, almost puzzled by the little posies of flowers that lie by the railings; ushered on before they can read the inscription on the card: “Solidarity with the victims of the attacks of New Year’s Eve. These acts must never be repeated.”

For Isle, however, they are unlikely to be forgotten. While unharmed, days on, she is still traumatised by the terrible events ofNew Year’s Eve when female revellers were sexually attacked, humiliated and robbed by up to 1,000 men described as being of North African or Middle Eastern appearance.

“Something terrible took place here, but it’s as if it never occurred,” she says. “I was there in the chaos and terror and I saw the police doing nothing. And now we are expected to say nothing? Just because the perpetrators were immigrants? This is another attack on women; first on our bodies, now on our rights.”

Italy’s Maternity Wards ‘Chronically Understaffed’

Gynecologists, obstetricians call on Lorenzin to take action

(ANSA) — Rome, January 5 — Gynecologists and obstetricians from three different associations called on Health Minister Beatrice Lorenzin to take on the fact that Italy’s maternity wards are chronically understaffed.

“Lorenzin must intervene personally, taking on the structural and staffing problems that torment Italy’s maternity wards,” the chiefs of the Association of Italian University Gynecologists, the Italian Gynecology and Obstetrics Association, and the Association of Hospital Gynecologists and Obstetricians said.

The statement came in the wake of the deaths of five women in childbirth in seven days — four of them in hospitals, one of them in a home birth.

The chronic lack of qualified staff makes it impossible in some cases to provide women with appropriate interdisciplinary teams made up of a gynecologist, an obstetrician, and an anesthetist, the doctors’ associations said.

Such teams are “a prerequisite for optimal care in obstetrical emergencies,” the statement said.

The doctors also called for “university-educated gynecological and obstetrics staff… and respect for behavioural norms or guidelines that are truly shared by the entire obstetrics and gynecology community”.

Having said that, the associations added that “there exists and always will exist a quota of maternal mortality in pregnancy…mortality in childbirth is significantly influenced by risk factors such as carrying twins, advanced age, and obesity”.

Italy, however, has one of the lowest maternal childbirth mortality rates in the West, the associations concluded.

Italy: Quarto Mayor Never Gave in to Camorra — Grillo

Ex councillor was immediately ejected from M5S

(ANSA) — Rome, January 7 — The Neapolitan Camorra mafia didn’t influence the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement’s (M5S) June electoral win at Quarto near Naples and Mayor Rosa Capuozzo “never gave in to the demands” of a former councillor who was ejected from the movement, leader Beppe Grillo said Thursday.

Grillo, on his blog, put up an extensive question-and-answer post explaining wiretaps released December 23 and published in the Italian media Wednesday in which the ex-councillor placed under investigation for mafia association, Giovanni De Robbio, had a supposedly incriminating — but in fact totally innocent, Grillo said — exchange with Capuozzo.

De Robbio was instantly ejected from the movement once his involvement in the probe became known, Grillo noted.

The once-upstart but increasingly experienced M5S prides itself on never having been involved in the kind of graft probes that have hit all sides of the political spectrum.

This has led to charges of hypocrisy over the Quarto case, from rivals on all sides of the political spectrum.

Another M5S bigwig, Alessandro Di Battista, accused its opponents of “slinging mud because they’re used to being covered in it”.

“They’re scaremongering because they’re scared od us,” he said.

Italy: Rome Aims to Involve More Private Sponsors in Culture Upkeep

City council looking for national, international sponsors

(ANSA) — Rome, January 5 — Rome’s city council is looking at ways to involve more private sponsors in the upkeep of its cultural heritage sites due to declining public funds, a council planning document for 2016-2018 showed on Tuesday.

The authority is searching for sponsors at both the national and international level, with a particular focus on the U.S. market, the document showed. It would use the funding for restoration work and project financing.

“Due to the decline in economic resources destined for the care and conservation of cultural assets, new ways of involving private capital to support the promotion of Rome’s cultural heritage are being studied,” the document said.

The Rome council also wants to collaborate with non-profit associations on culture promotion projects and to organise shows and performances in public squares and monuments, the document showed.

Italy: Quarto Public Contract Placed Under Receivership

Was awarded to firm with ‘possible mafia infiltration’

(see related)(ANSA) — Rome, January 8 — The Naples prefecture has begun procedures to place under receivership a contract for water main and sewer maintenance in the town of Quarto near Naples, ANSA learned Friday.

The receivership follows on a request of information from the National Anti-Corruption Authority (ANAC) on the contract that was originally awarded to a firm called Fradel Cooperative, which was subsequently barred from doing business because it was deemed at risk of being infiltrated by organized crime. Quarto has come under the media spotlight after former councillor Giovanni De Robbio was recently ejected from the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S) for his involvement in a probe for mafia association.

Calls have come from all sides for M5S Quarto Mayor Rosa Capuozzo to step down.

New Data Reveals Hundreds of Saudi Police Officers Have Received Training in Britain

The UK’s close relationship with Saudi Arabia has once again been cast under scrutiny after it emerged that hundreds of Saudi Arabian police officers have received training in Britain.

The College of Policing has provided specialist training to 270 Saudi officers who visited the UK, new figures released under Freedom of Information laws showed.

The Freedom of Information request also disclosed that 26 college employees had been deployed to Saudi Arabia, each on a short-term basis, since December 2012.

Now Migrant Gang Assault Women at Munich Nightclub: Merkel Forced to Act as Thousands Protest on Streets

Migrants were yesterday accused of further sexual assaults in Germany — after Chancellor Angela Merkel proposed stricter laws regulating asylum seekers after a string of New Year’s Eve attacks.

A gang of up to 15 ‘foreign men’ were alleged to have ‘indecently touched’ two women outside a nightclub in Munich — adding to around 150 reports of attacks across five German cities.

Yesterday Mrs Merkel announced plans to tighten up the law on denying the right of asylum for those who have committed crimes.

The news came after she faced renewed criticism for her open-door policy, which saw 1.1 million migrants enter the country in 2015.

The latest attacks add to the scores of cases across Germany of women being attacked by ‘organised Arab or North African gangs’ on December 31.

Yesterday, a march by the German far-Right group Pegida through the streets of Cologne had to be dispersed by police water cannon…

‘Politicians’ PC Lies Are as Bad as the Mob Sex Attacks Carried Out on German Women’

Why have politicians been too gutless to admit the sex attacks on those German women at New Year were very probably carried out by migrant men from Syria and North Africa?

In the name of what’s laughingly being called “political sensitivity”, the German government, the police and the country’s public broadcaster were so desperate to hide these attacks and the ethnicity of the offenders they reported that New Year’s Eve had passed off peacefully.

But the truth was that in Cologne, Stuttgart and Hamburg, huge gangs of men had surrounded vulnerable women resulting in two being raped, scores being sexually assaulted and many more being groped, beaten, robbed and having the underwear torn from their bodies.

There were hundreds of reported attacks, three-quarters of which were sexual.

One newspaper reported that police checked the IDs of 100 suspects and most were newly arrived asylum seekers.

And according to a hushed-up report from a senior police officer leaked to two other German newspapers, one of those held is said to have torn up his residency papers in front of officers sneering: “You can do nothing to me”.

Another said: “ You have to treat me kindly. Mrs Merkel invited me”.

Actually, she didn’t invite anyone to rape or molest Germany’s women.

But you wouldn’t think so by the way German ministers and the police have been publicly insisting no one can be sure it WAS migrants who were responsible.

It’s this kind of “political sensitivity”(stupidity) that ruins lives and stands in the way of justice.

It’s the kind that in Rochdale and Rotherham led to scores of vulnerable young girls being raped and abused for years by gangs of mainly Pakistani men who had grown up believing Western women were sluts and deserved to be treated as such.

These animals were allowed to go on raping children and ruining lives because to accuse them might have offended “religious sensitivities”.

Many of the German women assaulted on New Year’s Eve have confirmed the ethnicity of their abusers but no-one’s listening to them.

So, just like Britain, Germany has put “political sensitivity” above the safety of its own women for fear of stirring up racial tensions.

But it isn’t racist to say women have the right not to be raped.

Police Fire Water Cannon at Cologne Protesters as Anger Over NYE Sex Attacks Boils Over

ANGRY protests against the horrific New Year’s Eve attacks in Cologne erupted today with police firing water cannons on crowds of people.

Around 1,000 men of “North African and Arabic” appearance formed gangs to rob, rape and assault women in the German town.

Members of far-right group PEGIDA were among those who took to the streets of the German city to march against the attacks and also express outrage at an alleged cover-up by police and media organisations over the involvement of migrants.

Police were said to have turned the water cannon on members of the right-wing group after a stand-off with officers threatened to boil over.

Two people were injured in the clashes and police made a number of arrests.

It came after protesters, chanting “Merkel must go” were said to have thrown beer bottles at officers.

The angry scenes come as German chancellor Angela Merkel, whose policies have seen over a million immigrants taken in by the country, has urged for refugees who commit crimes to lose their rights to asylum.

The leader’s comments are seen as an attempt to quell growing anger at the sex attacks, which also occurred in a number of other parts of the country.

UK: ‘It’s Fine to Hit a Wife Who Doesn’t Please You’: What Islamic Cleric is Telling Students as He Tours British Universities Unchallenged… and He’s Not Alone

An Islamic cleric who defends domestic violence is among a string of extremist speakers touring British universities unchallenged, the Mail Investigations Unit can reveal.

Egyptian cleric Fadel Soliman spoke at five such events last year, using them to refer Muslim students to an online lecture series in which he speaks in favour of hitting women and outlines the Islamic case for sex slavery and polygamy.

Mr Soliman told students at Sheffield University that watching his lectures could be ‘a turning point’ in their lives.

In his extraordinary videos, he advises physical punishment for wives who have displeased their husbands, saying ‘the hitting must be done with a small stick’.

Explaining why it is necessary, he says that when a husband is unhappy with the behaviour of his wife, ‘after passing through two stages of non-physical interaction, the next stage must involve something physical, in order to escalate the intensity of the warning’.

UK: Judge Allowed to Sit on Sharia Court Set Up by Hebdo Protest Cleric

Justice first to receive approval to rule on Islamic cases despite fears system harms women’s rights

By Andrew Gilligan

A crown court judge has been allowed to rule on sharia cases, in the first case of its kind.

District Judge Shamim Qureshi, who sits at Bristol Crown Court, received permission from the Judicial Office to double as “presiding judge” at the Muslim Arbitration Tribunal (MAT).

The MAT was established in 2007 by a hardline cleric, Sheikh Faiz-ul-Aqtab Siddiqi, who led an anti-Charlie Hebdo demonstration after 11 of the magazine’s staff were murdered by terrorists.

Theresa May, the Home Secretary, is due to launch an independent review into sharia courts and councils amid concerns that a “parallel” justice system is developing in Britain. There are particular concerns that the courts are discriminatory towards women.

Judge Qureshi has overseen MAT, which is based in Nuneaton, Warks, and has four other branches.

It states that it serves Muslims “seeking to resolve disputes in accordance with Islamic sacred law”…

UK: Two Islamic Extremists Jailed Under Counter Terrorism Act After Breaching Notification Conditions

Two Islamic extremists have been jailed after admitting a “serious and deliberate” breach of their notification requirements under the Counter Terrorism Act.

Trevor Brooks, 40, from Clapton, and Simon Keeler, 44, from Shadwell, were arrested by police in Hungary, close to the Romanian border, on November 15.

Enquiries by UK authorities found both men left the country six days earlier and had breached their notification requirements.

Under their conditions, Brooks and Keeler were required to alert authorities in the UK if they planned to leave the country for more than 72 hours.

A European arrest warrant was issued and both men were extradited to the UK on November 26 and were arrested and subsequently charged at Heathrow.

The pair pleaded guilty to breaches of notification requirements under the Counter Terrorism Act at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on November 27 and were each jailed for two years at the Old Bailey on Friday.

New Algerian Cargo Port Project Will Cost Dlrs 3.3 Bln

Facility to be at El Hamdania near Cherchell 100 km from Algiers

(ANSAmed) — Tunis, January 5 — The Algerian cabinet has approved a project for the construction of a huge new sea port at El Hamdania, near the city of Cherchell, which Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal has described as “the biggest infrastructure project since independence” from France.

The area stretching over some 2000 hectares, less than 100 km from Algiers, the capital, was chosen because of its position as a sheltered natural bay with waters as deep as 20 Metres allowing the biggest container vessels to dock there.

It also will be the centre of an ambitious industrial development project well connected to the railway network and motorways that will serve as a hub for international trans shipments and as a national gateway for Algeria.

It will feature 23 docking quays with an overall capacity of some 25.7 million tonnes of general cargo.

The programme approved by the Algerian government envisages investment of some dlrs 3.3 billion and its completion in two phases through a public-private partnership with foreign firms able to take part in the tender competition.

Algeria hopes the complex will allow the north African nation to reach a total cargo movement of 35 million tonnes compared to the 10.5 million currently handled by the ports of Algiers and Téne’s, officials say.

ISIS Militant Ali Saqr Al-Qasem Publicly Executes Own Mother in Raqqa After Accusing Her of ‘Apostasy’

In a shocking low even by the standards of the so-called Islamic State, a militant has publicly executed his own mother after accusing her of apostasy.

The activist group Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently (RIBSS) said 20-year-old jihadi Ali Saqr al-Qasem shot his mother Lena, 45, in the head with an assault rifle in front of a large crowd.

Lena al-Qasem is understood to have been accused of apostasy — a crime that usually means leaving one’s religion but in practise is used by Isis as a justification for murdering anybody who doesn’t support or speaks out against the terror group.

Lebanon Stoops to New Low by Forcibly Returning Syrian Refugees

The forcible expulsion of more than 100 refugees back to Syria from Lebanon is a “shocking” setback, Amnesty International USA announced in a press release on Friday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — More than 100 Syrian refugees were forcibly returned to Syria by the Lebanese authorities on Friday and about 150 others are still stranded at Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport and remain at risk of imminent deportation, the release warned.

“By forcibly returning more than 100 refugees to Syria the Lebanese government has stooped to a shocking new low and is putting these people in mortal danger,” Amnesty International Head of Refugee and Migrants’ Rights Sherif Elsayed-Ali stated in the release.

The refugees had arrived in Beirut on flights from Syria planning to continue to Turkey, but were unable to leave as two Turkish Airlines flights were cancelled ahead of new Turkish visa regulations for Syrian refugees that came into force on Friday restricting access, the release noted.

“This is an outrageous breach of Lebanon’s international obligations to protect all refugees fleeing bloodshed and persecution in Syria. The Lebanese government must halt all further deportations of Syrian refugees immediately,” Elsayed-Ali said.

Rohan Silva: David Cameron Must Curb the Saudi Cash Fuelling Islamic State Ideology

[Monday 23d November 2015]

[…] Back in 2013, the European Parliament identified Wahhabism — which insists on severe punishment for anyone who doesn’t adhere to its teachings — as the ideological basis of Islamist terrorism the world over. Experts from the US State Department to former British military chiefs agree.

Wahhabism is the state religion in Saudi Arabia — a place where women are flogged for driving a car, people are sent to prison for 10 years for peacefully highlighting human rights issues and blasphemy is punished by death.

It would be bad enough if Wahhabism were confined to that country alone, but over the past 30 years it’s estimated that Saudi Arabia has spent more than $100 billion promoting Wahhabism in mosques, schools and textbooks around the world — far more than the $7 billion spent by the Soviets on communist propaganda over the 20th century.

Freedom House recently published a report on the Wahhabi books and teachings funded by Saudi Arabia and exported across the globe, and concluded that it “continues to propagate an ideology of hate toward the ‘unbeliever,’ which include Christians, Jews, Shi’ites, Sufis, Sunni Muslims who do not follow Wahhabi doctrine, Hindus, atheists and others”.

Small wonder that leaked documents show that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton privately describes Saudi Arabia as the “most significant source of funding to Sunni terrorist groups worldwide”. The triple-Pulitzer Prize- winning journalist Thomas Friedman puts it bluntly: “Nothing has been more corrosive … than the billions and billions of dollars the Saudis have invested since the Seventies [to impose] the puritanical, anti-modern, anti-women, anti-Western, anti-pluralistic Wahhabi Salafist brand of Islam promoted by the Saudi religious establishment.”

Three Female Kurdish Campaigners ‘Killed in Turkey Curfew Town’

Three female Kurdish political activists have been killed in fighting in a curfew-hit town in southeast Turkey as the authorities press an offensive against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), the main pro-Kurdish party said Wednesday.

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) said three of its female campaigners and another as-yet-unidentified man had been shot and badly wounded in Silopi town in Sirnak province late on Monday, accusing the authorities of failing to evacuate them despite pleas. All four died.

“These three women and the man were shot on Monday in the evening. They called to say ‘We are wounded and losing blood, so get us out of here’,” Leyla Birlik, the party’s MP for Sirnak province, said…

Turkey Building Huge New Multipurpose Amphibious Assault Ship

The multipurpose amphibious assault ship will be the country’s best and biggest when construction work is finished in 2021, the Turkish press reported last week.

Turkey has begun the construction of a new multipurpose amphibious assault ship called the TGC Anatolia, reported Turkey’s Milliyet newspaper on Tuesday.

The ship is being built at the Sedef shipyard in Istanbul, and it will be the Turkish navy’s largest and best-equipped warship when its construction is finished in 2021. It is named TCG Anadolu, or Anatolia is English, after the region in Turkey which makes up most of the country.

According to reports, the ship will be 225 meters long and 32 meters wide, and weigh 28,000 tons when fully loaded. It will be able to transport eight combat helicopters, an infantry battalion of 700 officers, and 1,400 crew members.

The Anatolia will also be fitted with a runway sloped to 12 degrees for fighter planes and combat helicopters. Milliyet reports that the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II stealth fighter and the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey tiltrotor military aircraft are among the aircraft designed for launch from the runway, on missions by the Turkish armed forces around the world.

“The F-35B class 5th generation fighter and eight helicopters can be carried to theaters in the Aegean, Black Sea and Mediterranean, and the Indian Ocean and Atlantic Ocean if needed,” wrote Milliyet.

Turkish Military Aircraft Breach Greek Air Space

Seven Turkish fighter jets entered Greek air space over the northeastern and southeastern Aegean without permission on Friday, according to local military officials.

A formation of six planes breached Greek air space twice, while one jet flying on its own made a single incursion.

The Hellenic Armed Forces General Staff (GEETHA) said that two of the seven Turkish fighters were armed.

Pakistan Signs JF-17 Agreement With Sri Lanka

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan and Sri Lanka have signed an agreement for an initial eight JF-17 Thunder multirole combat aircraft. The agreement comes amid Pakistani and Sri Lankan efforts to boost defense co-operation, and in the face of heavy Indian opposition.

The news broke late Tuesday on the second day of Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s three-day visit to Colombo. It had been widely speculated Sri Lanka would sign a deal for the JF-17 to start replacing its current fleet of Chengdu F-7, IAI Kfir and MiG-27 aircraft.

China, South Korea Seek Cooperation in Disarming North Korea

China urged a return to disarmament talks with North Korea in response to South Korea’s call for tougher sanctions after Kim Jong Un’s regime conducted its fourth nuclear test.

As North Korea’s biggest trading partner, the pressure is on China to rein in Kim as the country’s isolation, as well as its economic structure, make it difficult for sanctions to be effective. South Korea responded to Wednesday’s surprise nuclear test by resuming loudspeaker propaganda broadcasts along the demilitarized zone, a move that has pushed the Korean peninsula “toward the brink of war,” Yonhap News cited North Korean Workers’ Party Secretary Kim Ki Nam as saying at a rally.

Calais New Jungle Migrant Camp to Become Permanent as French Approve £18.8 Million Scheme

CALAIS’ temporary migrant camp is to become a permanent fixture on Monday following a green light from the French government.

There will be beds in shelters for 1,500 people — out of about 4,000 — at the New Jungle camp after an £18.8 million cash injection to improve the lives of tent-sleeping migrants currently living in squalor.

The newly permanent campement de la lande — as authorities are calling it — will coincide with an initiative which the French hope will reduce the number of people sleeping rough as they make often nightly attempts to cross the Channel.

Cologne New Year Violence Cases Up to 379, Most Suspects Migrants: Police

Berlin (AFP) — Cologne police said Saturday the number of cases filed over violence during New Year’s festivities had reached 379, and that asylum seekers and illegal migrants made up the majority of suspects.

“Those in focus of criminal police investigations are mostly people from North African countries. The majority of them are asylum seekers and people who are in Germany illegally,” police said in a statement, adding that around 40 percent of the cases related to sexual assault.

Investigations were ongoing to determine if charges could be brought against the suspects, it said, with 100 investigators now examining the cases.

Cologne police chief Wolfgang Albers was suspended yesterday after his force came under fire for failing to prevent the shocking spate of crime a week ago.

Witnesses had described terrifying scenes of women running the gauntlet of groping hands, lewd insults and robberies in the mob violence.

The rampage has shocked Germany and added fuel to critics of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s open-door stance to war refugees that brought 1.1 million new asylum seekers into the country last year alone.

German Police Under Orders to Keep Refugee Crimes Off the Radar

The German police have been instructed not to announce crimes allegedly committed by migrants and asylum seekers, the German press reported on Friday.

The German police have been under instructions to cover up crimes alleged to have been committed by migrants and asylum seekers, reported German newspaper Das Bild on Friday.

“The terrible attacks of sex mobs in Cologne and other German cities have shaken the country. Now ever more crimes by refugees and migrants are coming to light,” wrote Das Bild.

As well as allegations from more than 100 women in Cologne that they were harassed, robbed or sexually assaulted on New Year’s Eve by gangs of men of Arab and North African appearance, the newspaper reports similar events in other German cities, reports of which came to light days only days later.

On New Year’s Eve in Bielefeld an “aggressive sex-mob” of 500 men forced their way into a nightclub and attacked several women, reports Bild. In Baden-Wurttemburg four Syrian asylum seekers aged between 14 and 21 are accused of raping two girls, 14 and 15 years old on New Year’s Eve, which was only reported on January 7 after questioning from journalists.

“That a 20-year-old Iraqi and his friends groped a young girl on New Year’s Eve in Stuttgart only came out when a police source turned directly to Bild,” reported the newspaper.

In Cologne, despite police receiving the first complaints from victims before midnight on December 31, on January 5 local police chief Wolfgang Albers and mayor Henriette Reker still maintained that there was no evidence that asylum seekers were involved in the crimes.

On January 7 police chief Albers was dismissed after it emerged that his force already knew that asylum seekers were largely responsible for the attacks. When announcing the decision, Interior Minister of Nordrhein-Westfalens Ralf Jager said he wanted the police to regain the confidence of the public.

“In fact, a report from the riot police dated January 2 shows that details were taken from 71 people — most of whom were asylum seekers. It is not yet clear whether these people were involved in crimes,” Bild reported on Friday.

A police source in Frankfurt explained to Bild why alleged crimes committed by migrants and refugees were slow to come to light.

“Offenses which are committed by criminal suspects who have a foreign nationality and are registered in a reception center we immediately put to one side.”

“There are strict instructions from the authorities not to report about offenses committed by refugees. Only direct requests from the media about such acts should be answered,” said the police officer.

A spokesman for the Hessen Interior Ministry confirmed the policy.

“The press office managers were advised that right wing extremists could exploit the issue of refugees in order to stoke sentiment against people seeking protection,” said the spokesman.

The attacks against women in German towns and cities at New Year come after some similar reports from asylum centers in Germany last year.

In April 2015 Bayerische Rundfunk reported incidences of sexual assault and forced prostitution at an asylum center in Bavaria, which police refused to confirm.

In October Bild reported that 15 women and children at an asylum center in Hessen had reported being sexually assaulted. Prior to that, in September local welfare organizations wrote to representatives of Hessen’s Regional Assembly raising concern about rape, sexual assault and forced prostitution at the center.

“These are not isolated cases,” they warned, citing mixed accommodation and sanitary facilities as some of the factors that put women and children at risk.

According to Saxony’s Interior Minister, between January 1 and November 30 2015 there were “1006 incidents of brutality and crimes against personal liberty” reported at asylum centers there. These include three cases of manslaughter, 11 of attempted murder and six cases of sexual abuse of children, reported Bild.

Germany: Vigilantes Vow to ‘Protect Our Ladies’ From Migrant Sex Attackers After Cologne Assault

A GERMAN vigilante group has vowed to protect women from migrant sex attackers after the sickening New Year’s Eve assaults in Cologne.

Declaring “one for all, and all for one” Dusseldorf is Watching has racked up support from more than 8,000 Facebook members after at least 120 women reported being robbed, threatened or sexually molested at celebrations outside the city’s cathedral.

More than half of the 32 suspects linked to the horrendous attacks in Cologne have been identified as asylum seekers, police officials have confirmed.

The campaign group who desire to “protect our ladies’ future” says it wants to make the streets safer through “presence” alone.

A spokesperson for Dusseldorf Police said officers had no problem with individuals acting courageously against crime but were against “self-proclaimed vigilantes”.

It comes after a string of brutal assaults on women by a marauding gang of up to 1,000 immigrant men in the German cities of Cologne, Hamburg and Stuttgart.

Three Syrians have been arrested in southern Germany for the alleged gang rape of two teenage girls on New Year’s Eve.

Two 14-year-old boys and a 21-year-old man have been held in Weil am Rhein, a small town near the Swiss and German borders, for the suspected rape of a 14 and 15-year-old girl.

The girls were allegedly held for several hours and gang-raped after going to a New Year’s Eve party at the home of a 21-year-old man in the village of Friedlingen.

Local council leader Annette Huber said she was “completely shocked” by the allegations, only reported yesterday.

Iraqi Refugee ‘Who Smuggled 3,000 Migrants Into UK as Part of Massive People-Trafficking Ring’

An Iraqi refugee helped sneak up to 3,000 asylum seekers into Britain as part of a massive people-smuggling ring, a court was told yesterday.

Basak Ahmed Sleman, 33, abused his permission to stay in the country by illegally smuggling 20 people a day into the UK five days a week since May 2015, it is alleged.

He is fighting extradition to Belgium, having been accused of being a linchpin in a gang running a major human-trafficking operation bringing entire families into Britain from the continent stowed away in lorries. Despite a string of previous convictions for using fraudulent identity documents, Sleman has been given leave to remain in the UK, the court heard.

Sleman, who has lived in the UK for 15 years, has pledged to use human rights legislation to fight extradition to Belgium, where he would stand trial and faces prison if convicted.

He argues that sending him to stand trial across the Channel would breach Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights which safeguards privacy and family life…

Italy: ‘Prepare for Invasion’ of Migrants if Depenalised — Maroni

Salvini vows referendum on depenalisation of illegal immigration

(ANSA) — Rome, January 8 — Lombardy Governor Roberto Maroni on Friday tweeted “prepare for an invasion” of illegal immigrants as a result of an impending decree by Italian Premier Matteo Renzi to depenalise illegal immigration.

The leader of Maroni’s anti-immigrant Northern League, Matteo Salvini, wrote on his Facebook page that his party would launch a referendum “against this shameful thing”, referring to the decree.

National antimafia prosecutor Franco Roberti said the depenalisation will help authorities to identify human traffickers.

Roberti said the current law making illegal immigration a crime “hinders investigations” and that “data show (the law) hasn’t had a dissuasive effect thus far”.

Meanwhile on Friday, Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni said immigrants should be able to receive European-wide asylum, not asylum specific to the individual EU country they first enter, as stipulated by the Dublin Regulation.

“On the altar of Dublin we’re risking sacrificing Schengen,” said Gentiloni, referring to the common visa policy among 26 European countries that abolished passport checks at their internal borders.

“The European Union is like an apartment building where everyone fights with their neighbors, except for when they all fight together against the one who watches over the entrance, in this case Greece,” Gentiloni said. The foreign minister also said that “for those who don’t have the requisites to be taken in, repatriation should also be a European task”.

Mississippi Town Reverses Itself and Says ‘No’ To Refugees

The tiny farming community of Louise was an exception in a Deep South where resistance to resettling refugees from the Syrian conflict was ramping up after the attacks in Paris. Those opposed say extremists could be among those who are resettled.

At the same time that this small rural community was welcoming refugees, Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant said he would do “everything humanly possible” to keep refugees from his state.

Then, last Tuesday, the votes of the month-long referendum in Louise were counted: the tally was 37 against and three in favor of welcoming refugees, according to Mayor Thomas Ruffin Smith. Following the vote count, the board of aldermen rescinded the resolution.

In November — at the height of a national debate over whether Syrian refugees should be welcomed — the Mississippi Delta town’s board passed a resolution to welcome refugees, calling it a “Christian duty.” The town’s decree in November was a rare show of warmth toward refugees.

Smith, the Louise mayor, said he was disappointed by the outcome of referendum.

“This is a fear and ignorance problem, and one leads to the other,” the mayor said in a telephone interview. “Me personally, I think it’s the right thing to do. There’s people out there in the world that are in a hard way.”…

NYE Sex Attacks in Finland Reported After Police Were Tipped Off Immigrants Would Strike

A WAVE of sex attacks have been reported in the Finnish capital Helsinki as it emerges immigrants planned to strike on New Year’s Eve.

It comes after a string of brutal assaults on women by a marauding gang of up to 1,000 immigrant men in the German cities of Cologne, Hamburg and Stuttgart.

Security guards hired to patrol the Finnish capital told officers there had been “widespread sexual harassment” at a central square where around 20,000 people had gathered to bring in the New Year.

Deputy police chief Ilkka Koskimaki said: “There hasn’t been this kind of harassment on previous New Year’s Eves or other occasions for that matter. This is a completely new phenomenon in Helsinki.

“The suspects were asylum seekers. The three were caught and taken into custody on the spot.”

Refugees Turn Life Vests Into Handbags on Lesvos

They are a poignant symbol of Europe’s refugee crisis: Mountains of life vests strewn on the beaches of Lesvos, and piled high at dumps on the Greek island that doesn’t know what to do with them.

Now some of those refugees are working on a solution.

A group of volunteers at a refugee shelter on the island has launched a project to make handbags, totes, and messenger bags out of the brightly colored vests, hoping to raise money for charity efforts on the island.

At a tiny makeshift workshop, Afghan tailor Yasin Samadi works with a sewing machine to make a small orange dispatch bag, as children and other curious onlookers wander in and out, drawn by the bursts of noise from the machine.

“If there’s work here, I will stay here,” says the 27-year-old from Kabul, who’s been living with his family at the shelter, known as the PIKPA camp, for 18 months. “If not, well need to leave.”

Lesvos has been at the center of the refugee crisis that escalated dramatically last year. More than 500,000 refugees and other migrants arrived to the island in 2015, nearly half the total number of people who traveled to Europe.

Italy: Renzi Pledges Immediate Law on Civil Unions

Premier pours scorn on opposition M5S party

(ANSA) — Rome, January 4 — Italian Premier Matteo Renzi was quoted as saying Monday that Italy has to pass a law immediately on civil unions so that the country can catch up with the rest of Europe.

“The wound has to be healed, we are at the tail end of the queue in Europe,” Renzi told La Stampa newspaper in an interview.

Renzi also said he is not bothered at the prospect of an increase in support for the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement, which is in power in a handful of towns across Italy.

Renzi added that his concerns are “the country, its recovery, its re-launch. As far as regards the Five Stars, their way of governing is the best advertising spot for the Democratic Party (PD),” Renzi said.

  1. Too bad the police could not shut down the raving muslim men on New years Eve or hose them down like they did to the protestors. And why didn’t they? What is going on here?! All hell is breaking loose over there. I watched some video of the muslim men setting off fireworks in front of the Cathedral. There was about 10 minutes running of this – a free for all with fireworks flying in all directions- andI didn’t see a police car or a policeman. Thought that must be a crime in Germany, or Cologne, particularly in front of this beautiful landmark Cathedral. How are some people allowed to break the law with no consequences? I heard and read that there was total mayhem with the Muslims spitting on cops, passersbys, yelling ‘[Have carnal knowledge of] the Cops!’ Not to mention chasing girls and sexually attacking them.
Here in the states I was astounded by the Occupy movement and what they got away with: breaking so many laws, inconveniencing many people, marching without a permit, obstructing traffic, police depts spending millions on them and their shenanigans. And everyone adored them and gave them free reign and plenty of press coverage. I thought the same thing…What is going on here?
    Very dangerous times…

    • I’m with you there Mary C.
I find these developments very disturbing. The only thing that will help is electing strong leaders who won’t stand for the sort of P.C pandering that led to this situation in the first place. That means voting for Geert Wilders in the Netherlands ,Marine Le Pen in France and Trump in the U.S

    • The German nationalists are a threat to those who control the government who wish to maintain their power. The Muslims (currently) are not such a threat.

IMHO this is why the anti-invader protesters get the water cannon while the Islamic rape gangs get treated with a light touch.

  2. 1,700 Cologne Police turn up for 1,700 PERGIDA protestors but were invisible for the 1,000 “Arab men” on NYE. Is this a sign they have learned a lesson or just think PERGIDA is a greater threat to public safety?

  3. It kind of looks like the “uncivilized” are winning whatever war this is (and it does look like a war, just as those New Year’s Eve attacks look like they may have been planned and coordinated), doesn’t?

Who said something like (I’m paraphrasing) “nice civilization, if you can keep it”? Benjamin Franklin talking about the founding of our country perhaps?

    • Franklin answered the question “what have you wrought”? (by putting together the Constitution)

His reply was, “A republic, if you can keep it.”

  4. Don’t let this demonstration form your opinion of Pegida, because it looks like Pegida was not in charge here. HOGESA (Hooligans gegen Salafisten) should not allowed at these demonstrations and real Pegida people need to take full control and throw out any racists and violent idiots, as they do in Dresden.

Also, there is a very lively discussion at Politically Incorrect in which many claim that the firecrackers were thrown by agents provocateurs.

This is my translation from Selberdenker’s article on PI: http://www.pi-news.net/2016/01/koeln-jaegers-neuer-bock/#more-498222

    “Cologne: Jaeger’s New Blunder

It began so hopefully: thousands of participants at a resistance demonstration against the government – of all things in the left crony-metropolis Cologne! The end was again catastrophical. Pegida Dresden has now shown for over a year how it’s done – Hogesa has apparently still not got it.

Some questions about this day in Cologne:
Why did one allow Hogesa to lead the demonstration, thus forming its image and ultimately destroying that image? Even in Hogesa there are some good people who get it and who have some relationship with the Hooligans – where the hell were they?

Why were there German imperial war flags (Reichskriegsflaggen) right next to the speakers, why the advertisements for the REPs, despite the ban? Why was that permitted?

Why did some people have their faces covered, after the police had banned it several times? Why were police orders not followed?

Where did the firecrackers come from? Was it idiots or was it our enemies (inside or outside the demo)? At least some of the participants were certainly not supporting the cause.

Where were the internal stewards? They completely failed!
The police leadership was also not interested in de-escalation. They aimed to prematurely end an unwanted demonstration in Cologne! Tear gas was also recklessly shot at thousands of peaceful citizens. One saw disabled people, elderly people and women protecting their eyes. Here escalation was desired – ruthlessly.

There were so many people on the street, it started so well – and it has ended so badly. Ordinary citizens were scared off again today. Who achieved their goal here?

The police also allowed maximum action against German patriots and against simple citizens with legitimate concerns. One picture of today imprints itself: water cannons and tear gas pushing back German flags [ie the modern tricolour].

One question was called at the police a thousand times and remains unanswered:
“Where were you on New Year’s Eve?”

Losers, irresponsible endangerers of the population and dividers govern our country. NRW Interior Minister Jäger has committed another blunder today!

Today was a bad day. However, this is far, far from over!”
